I have been looking at getting a set of GameScience dice for a while now, and am just about ready to purchase them... however, I seem to have run into a problem. I can't decide exactly what set I want. They're all so pretty! I can ink them in either with silver or black ink, so think about how those would look on them. The colors I am looking at are as follows:

Amethyst:

Blood Coral:

Smoke Quartz:

Sapphire:

Which one do you guys think would look better?

The only one we can see is blood coral. Did you use an undirect link?

You should get the steel ones. No, seriously, dice made of actual steel. Those things are so cool! And on the plus side, if one of your players acts up, you really do have a d20 of playerbane. :smallamused:

After a quick browse of their site, I'd go with the Smoke Quartz ones myself. Though, that's only because I like dark-colored dice, since they tend to contrast really well with the numbers on them.

Sorry... I think I fixed it.

You'll probably find that one set of dice is never enough. You'll just keep adding more and more. That said, I like the blood coral the best.

Much better, I like Smoke Quartz best, it has this pleasant look to them.

I'd go with either Smoke Quartz and silver ink or Blood Coral and black ink. Judging from those pictures, I'd say the Smoke Quartz are probably easier to read and so would give the edge to them.

Use a dart board arranged in a grid to determine which one will be represented by 1 and go clock-wise or counter-clockwise from there based on a coin toss, then roll 50d4 and select the dice color that has the highest number of results. If there's no significant difference, then roll another 50d4, etc.

Personally I prefer the smoke quartz but also see them as possibly being difficult to read and would probably go to amethyst after that.

I'm sad to say that I can't think of any way to use a random number generator to help you though, at least, not without adding bias as to what numbers I would assign to each to be pinged by it.

i like the color of sapphire but i know from experience the smoke ones are the only readily readable ones.

You can read the numbers on those? :smalleek: I'd go with the Smoke Quartz.

The dice aren't inked yet.

My vote goes to sapphire, then blood coral, the smoke quartz, then amethyst.

I'd go with silver-inked smoke quartz or black-inked red coral in that order. For some reason I've always preferred greyscale dice to colorful ones, if only because they clash less with the feel of certain games. The black on red is probably more readable in low light, though, if you normally play in the same optical environment I do and that's a concern.

Smoke Quartz! I'd go with amethyst myself, but I have this problem where everything I own is purple.

The Quartz dice are by far the most badass ones. It's not even a choice.

Vonriel is right, though - the best dice are steel, followed by bone. Any plastic is a distant fourth - third place is stone dice which I don't think they even make.

I have the red ones, and a friend has the blue. They're both quite nice. You should get the 12-piece set though, not the 7. d3s and d5s are fun to have.

Smoke Quartz or Amethyst are most appealing of the examples provided.

Personally, I use

smoke quartz or amethyst, blue is overdone and red is sorta plain.

also dont buy one of each, buy one of each and a whole bunch of extras depending on what system(s) you plan to use them for. D6 if D&D. lots and lots and lots and lots and lots (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OverlyLongGag) of d6.

You are pure evil, 742. Pure evil, I say.

Trog, those are epic. Don't suppose you have a spare set hanging around I can borrow for the rest of eternity?

Hey! Those are the dice I have  aren't they pretty

For sheer readability, I'd probably say the smoke quartz ones... for prettiness I'd go with the amethyst ones... not a fan of the blue and I can't see the blood coral ones.

Sapphire with silver ink. By the gods, yes.

Amethyst and Smoke Quartz are both ridiculously gorgeous, but I'm not sure either color ink would look nice on them.

[Editin' dis post] Actually, after a second look, I think Amethyst with silver ink would look quite nice.

I'd say Quartz. All the other ones just look too artificial for my tastes. Too... plastic-coloured?

I like the sapphire ones, probably with silver ink.

How is that a problem? :smallconfused: Purple is awesome!

They're absolutely gorgeous! The remind me of oil slick, aberrations, and the Far Realm. Really gets me in the mood to shatter the PCs' sanity.

the smoke quartz looks nicest in these pictures, but i'll bet they are sensitive to photography since they are translucent. i'd go with the red ones, and then use crayons to fill in the numbers with something contrasty.

although, you should really go with the most extravagant dice you can. i always find the pink ones are the luckiest ~; )

Always go with the dice color that no one in your group has. Besides , you don't want those...you want UGLY dice. Ugly dice always roll well.

Open a DMG and look up a table for the worth of gems. I'm using 3.5 here, it's on page 55 there. Amethyst is in the 4d4x10gp tier, as is coral; smoky quartz is in the 2d4x10 gp tier and sapphires in the 4d4x100 gp tier.
So if you want the most bang for your buck, go for sapphire.

But I would go for the humble smoky quartz.

My players have a hard enough time paying attention with just regular dice. Make 'em shiny, and it's all over.

I'd get the smoke quartz dice. The other colors are too bright and plastic.

I'm usually partial to blue, but those look a bit, I dunno, off. Plastic probably is the best word.

The amethyst ones look nice for what they are, though I don't care for purple. If you like purple, go for it.

I'd get the smoked quartz, I think.

Naw, only cool stone, like marble, counts. Hematite is, at best, lame stone.

I actually bought some lovely green stone d6s the other day from the Smithstonian Museum of Natural History ^_^ So, stone dice do exist. but they're kind of big and a little on the expensive side. I can't remember the exact name of the mineral off the top of my head.

As for which of those dice to choose, I'll agree with the rest and say the smokey quartz. Everything else looks plastic and cheap.
