Draw your Friends! IX

MUSIC
(Mystic Chords Optional)

Welcome to a new iteration of the Draw your Friends game/competition, the game/competition were you draw for a friend.

I'm one of your hosts, araveugnitsuga, you may call me Pink-Haired August.
Our other host, and founder of this game/competition is none other than The Grandmaster of Friendly Administration, Fin.

Info
The Guidelines

The game starts when we reach the 12 volunteers.
You may join by posting your desire to do so in the current thread.
If you participated in the last iteration you must repost in the running thread, posting on a thread that has undergone will not count.
You will be assigned a fellow volunteer to draw for through a PM by your respective host.
You have 7 days (168 hours from the moment a host posts that all PM's have been sent) to draw it.
You may draw in any style you wish.
The idea is to draw something related to your assigned playgrounder.
Any format is welcomed, from avatar to a giant watercolor image.
When you are finished you PM it to your assigned host.
Don't post the image here.

Extensions are permissible if you PM a host asking for it and a reasonable extended time-frame.
We'd much rather have an extension than late turn ins.

Themes
They are announced in the thread after the start of the competition.
They are sent again through a PM along with your assignment.
They are selected by both of your hosts, but suggestions are accepted.
They are entirely optional

The Workings

There are two phases.
On the "First Phase" you are assigned a fellow volunteer to draw.
The second phase is entirely optional.
On the "Second Phase" a host reveals all the images.
You may guess on who draw it and by whom it was drawn.
After two days such information will be revealed.

The Wishlist

You can only enter The Wishlist if you didn't participate in the previous round and the contest already has started.
If you enter the Wishlist you are automatically included on the next round.

Excellent, then I can answer more correctly.

I didn't intend to question what TK said, rather I agreed with his conclusion and proposed solution for the problem. I just expressed it, as I have an tendency to do, by defending the one who "erred" (you) and offering an non-serious explanation on what could be your hidden motives behind the action TK were questioning.

@VV I'll just say that's a more or less correct interpretation and leave it at that. :-)

I believed that he just copied the content from the previous thread, in which there was already 12/12 listed at the bottom. He only changed the VIII to IX because he saw it at the top of the post.

In response to Tsofu's post after mine, it looked like he only wanted the people who REALLY wanted to sign up, to sign up. The people who would post and ask anyway, even if they saw 12/12. The one's Tsofu called the "brave". I guess I was the "thoughtful".

Our theme this round is:

MUSIC
(Mystic Chords Optional)

From it's humble tribal beginning, going through the invention of notation with D' Arezzo, through Mozart's Concerts at the court, and Beethoven's deafness on board, the Baroque, the classical, the romantic all allong Scribian's insanity, the birth of Jazz and Charleston, and ragtime and beebop, to the new structure of rock and pop coupled in with Metal and Funk, never forgetting polka or videogame songs. A finely tuned Shamisen, a piano banging downstairs and an orchestra ready to play, with musicals all along Broadway. This round theme's seems broad enough.

The Due Date is:

June 13, 2011, 12:01 p.m. GMT 0

Also, tried to prevent repetitions seeing as what I previously didn't notice had already happened, hopefully everyone hasn't drawn their recipient before.

Mr_Saturn
2011-06-12, 07:30 PM
Is it possible that following incarnations of DYF can have restrictions on the mode that we draw? Like for one round everyone has to hand-draw their submissions, use MS paint, or draw with your eyes closed?

...

I realize there are only so many other ways a person can draw... probably a bad idea. And this is not to discriminate against people who already use paint, or do everything by had (or tablet.). But it could work out for a single round I suppose.

The issue with this is that not many are proficient with more than one form of art and the objective of the game is to use the one you feel would better suit the modality. It would be kinda uncomfortable since anything beyond inkscape requires materials not everyone has.

It's not a bad idea, just not one particularly applicable given the circumstances here.

Playing the flute (backwards)

Is it really backwards? Some people play instruments differently depending on whether they are right or left-handed. Does the same apply for the flute. Or does it look that way because his head is turned to his left instead of his right?

I've never come across them. Thing with the flute, though, is that both hands are used to press the keys, unlike a guitar where one hand strums and the other just presses the strings on the kneck. I'm also assuming that like violins, they are not produced as in an orchestra, they want the instruments to face the same way.

However, I have seen a guy play a flute backward, and that was pretty awesome!

This is correct, no sane flautist would switch the direction mainly because you destroy the orchestra's positioning. Also, there is no left handed flute in the market. Finally, it's as easy to lefties as it is to right handed people (different from piano where lefties have an advantage at later stages but have a very rough beginning). HOWEVER, the case has happened were the soloist plays a left handed flute, it's EXTREMELY rare, but it's possible for it to happen, it however has to be tailor made since no major flute seller will produce one.

Discourse
First of all kudos to GrlumpTheElder for guessing all right. Congratulations! Chances are there will be trophies...

Next, congratulations to everyone, everyone turned them in on time, in fact, before time, which is great. All works were top-notch and rather great. This is in fact one of the hardest round for me to pick favourites from. I found two takes in particular rather "noteworthy" however and it bears mention: Kasanip's take on Zefir was spectacular, I believe the Glowing effects and the reflection on the little chest crystal were the highlights of it (also, AThousandWords justification of it being in theme is also of note and praise), the other take is Mr_Saturn iDerjuin, the execution is great and it strangely enough fits rather well with the MSPA style (IMHO). But all entries were great all around, it's just that those two were the ones that were specially distinctive.

I believe the theme equilibrium has finally been fined tuned and as far as I see the mechanic works rather well. This theme was one I was rather excited about (sadly I didn't have a lot of free time this round) [if someone tries to cross check the chord in my image you'll find I've also included the subtitles of the theme] and all the entries are rather great portraying the different drawees in relation to the theme (or the physics thereof).

As for me, I love the way Tsofu portrayed Ribonis, I have a special liking of his cartoonish style and the 3D-esque perspective does add up a lot. The skirt fold are really eye catching and all kinda blends in beautifully. I definitely need to start making more banners since I have gathered way to many avatars which I have cued up.

Thanks to all and be on the watch for the new thread, soon, probably.

There should be an 'A' in there somewhere. [/capnjacksparrow] But thanks! :smallcool:

And Grlump totally got #11 wrong!

I will be watching for the next one, and I kind of wish I had done this one.

I agree with this completely. I think it's absolutely amazing. What I would give to be able to create works of art like that
or even to own one...

It is there.

What do you mean, that's totally your entry.

What prevents you from joining? if you don't mind me asking.

Well this round, it's because I'm currently at a summer school thing. But like, college credits, not remedial. And the beginning of this one coincided with the first week, which I thought was going to be really intense, and it is but I have more free time than I thought, so I'm ready for the next one!

Hmm, I just noticed that my guessing table was a little truncated. Oh well, i messed up a lot anyways.

And I thought Teutonic Knight wouldnt draw Akrim.Elf after doing it only two themes ago! Silly me.

And thanks for the kind words Pinky. But what is MSPA style? Quick google came up with Mystery Shopping Providers Association.

Read it (http://www.mspaintadventures.com/) and become addicted :smalltongue: Though it is a bit ambiguous what MSPA style means, since the author has 4 or 5 different styles throughout the comic, depending on the silliness/seriousness/heroicness of the occasion.
