Welcome, brethren, to the 161st Random Banter thread. Now, come and begin with the merry-making!

Rules List

1. Spam. For the purposes of RB, one word posts are generally considered spam. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* are also be considered spam. Remember that the quality of the post's content is much better than the speed of your response.

2. This isn't the Play by Post or Town forum, nor is it the Silly Message Board Games or Structured Games forum. Please avoid continuous roleplay or mock battles and fights such as the "competition for control of the universe".

3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well. The exception to this is to bring something that is off-topic from one thread, but on-topic for RB and the subject doesn't warrant a thread of its own.

4. Don't advertise other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.

5. Please don't post single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."

6. Don't poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."

7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.

8. As this is a public forum, where the current topic is nicely recorded for you, and not a conversation where you could have missed the beginning, please refrain from asking something to the effect of "What's the topic?". Please take the time to read up a bit first.

9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.

10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.

11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details.

12. Whenever a new thread is created, all "first post", "first page", and all posts of that nature will be deleted by the administrators. Please avoid doing this, as it is frustrating for them to deal with one-lined posts like this.

13. Double-posting is not your friend. We have edit buttons for a reason.

14. Once you have made a Random Banter thread, you must wait 50 threads before making another one.

15. If you can avoid dibs calling on making the next thread, that will avoid people needing to wait if the thread hits 50 pages while the dibs-caller is asleep.

You could always play some Dynasty Warriors, it's quite releaving, sending hundreds of bodies flying to their death. Or if you're playing the Fist of the North Star version, making them explode/be sliced into ribbons.

A few debate classes could make it possible to hold ones ground, specially if the opponent focuses more on an empirical point of view and gets to dismiss philosophy by virtue of the number of contradicting point of views philosophy has had in relation to itself.

It'll testify greatly to the craziness of the legal system if we can be prosecuted for puns.

We'll be fine as long as it all adds up to a whole fifty pages.

I would hate to witness all of that. Maybe we could hold attorney while we wait for the decision.

Hopefully the puns multiply. We just need to get squared away.

Adult idea of fairness.

PHA: It's unfair everyone gets an extra point in this question, why should everyone benefit from your mistake in correcting, just recall and recorrect and give the point only to those who actually did mark the REAL correct answer.
Teacher: It wouldn't be fair since many people who got a point in my mistake would lose it.
PHA: But those people actually get 2 extra points instead of the 0 they deserve or heck, in your proposed scenario the 1 you are giving away.
Teacher: No, it works correctly, it would be hardly fair for them to suffer from my mistake.
PHA: They aren't suffering, they are benefiting, twice at that.

Teacher then proceeded to leave the classroom.

Next year I have three papers, one a term ideally; each one of them is an option paper. I had about twenty-eight papers being offered. And I could only choose three. (Before I elaborate, DoS in this case is Director of Studies)
One I basically fell in love with at first read was a CTST (Centrally Taught Special Topic) called Children's Literature.
Reasons why (in order from the guide):
Philip Pullman is going to speak; and possibly Walter Hooper on C. S. Lewis.
I get to read Alice in Wonderland books and the Peter Pan books.
Fairy Tales!
Kipling (to be honest, I'm a bit meh on this, but it's in the context of the Guide and Scout movement, which is much more interesting)
I get to write essays on Narnia and LoTR and popular reactions to them!
Lear's nonsense verse
Picture books () and
the works of Diana Wynne Jones and Pullman. Specifically: science, truth, Pullman's use of epics/Biblical authority, and how Jones subverts the fantasy genre.
And those are just the lectures!

I rest my case.
Problem is there's a limited amount of spaces, and while I was fairly early on the sign up list, I may still not get it.

Curly does indeed listen to Blind Guardian! For about two years now. And I got both my brothers into it too!
You must have known this at some point because I specifically remember getting linked to some of their stuff from either here or one of the first metal threads; and it was most likely either by you, SansNom or Moff. Oe possibly Helanna from back when she was deathdragon.
The were of great use when I was reviewing a particularly dull story arc in Dominic Deegan.
Time to cue the usual questions:
favourite song?
Favourite album?
Any recommendations?
Live or recorded?
Why's for all of them too.
Oh!, and what do you think of their new album?

I am officially workless until Tuesday or so. And have finished all my official teaching. SO to celebrate I went out and did something . . . girly.
But extremely procrastinated girly, so it's more a need than anything.
I finally bought casual-shoes-that-aren't-trainers so my feet don't die of heat and I don't like faintly ridiculous in shorts. They're sandals with three inch heels.
I actually look average height when I wear them.
Thing is, when I realised they were three inches high, my mind went a weird place: "I am exakidally three inches high, and I think it is very good height indeed!"
But they're strappy heeled sandals so I'm happy.
And then I went and bought two more boxes of tea! I mean have fifteen flavours of tea. My new flavours are rather Oriental: cherry blossom (white) tea, and (green) jasmine tea.
Then a pasty.
Then some more stuff from Lush (I swear, it's like an addiction! But not in that I was running out of the stuff I bought).
Then I bought some hair dye.
Don't know how well it'll turn out, but I'll give it a bash tonight or tomorrow probably. Doubt it'll have much effect actually as it' only going to darken my hair a few shades. 'Course, that's what I thought last time I bought this brand of dye (but a different colour), and it went dark mahogany red. Very fetching actually.
And my hair holds this temporary dye insanely well. It's meant to last about three washes, give or take. Mine? SIX WEEKS.

Oh, and I got a flyer for one of the nearby Summer Lawn Plays. For Amodeus. Hell yeah! :smallcool:
Might even dragoon (she'll be for it) Friend Who Does French into going with. We'll lounge on the lawn drinking Pimm's watching open air musical theatre ticking off boxes in the Oxcamfordbridge Stereotype Checklist.

Well, I also went shopping to find a present for the Boy, but that's not as important as me doing feminine things now is it? Besides, only yesterday I was taunting Physics Friend by making lots of stereotypically male joke about sex and the like and generally being male. Top top. Marvellous. *Straightens monocle*

What's this old bean? No bowler hat? No cane? What is this place?! Next you'll be drinking that absurd little 'ko - fee' thing and declaring it the master of all beverages.
What is this world coming to?

ION:
I am doing some very British things this evening. Watching and writing up another Doctor Who episode while supping on some deliciously scented cherry blossom tea. The parents are going to flip their lids when they find out I have almost two shelves worth of tea now. Most of the boxes are at the half full stage, so it could be worse . . .
I'm thinking of getting into loose leaf teas, so I need to buy an infuser at the very least for uni, and maybe a proper tea pot for the long haul. This is becoming a slight problem.

IOOON: It's occurring to me that I spend a lot of time trying to live in the past or the future. e.g. right now, I'm spend a considerable amount of time thinking about my upcoming birthday party in just over a week because it should be fun, a little thinking about Grand Duke rehearsals because I'm playing the lead and I like showing off, and then from time to time I have to go "No! This is not getting anything done! Do things now, the future will still be there when it happens!"

I know what you mean!

Along similar lines, do you get wrapped up so much in thought that you don't notice physical objects, or your own actions and movements? I caught myself swinging from a pillar at Truro station today.
But then, that same journey also saw me finding a trolley with bent wheels on the side of the road and spending the next ten minutes pushing it with my index finger whilst running behind it and attempting to prevent it from pulling too far to the left of the lane (where it would fall downhill).
I then wondered at the strange looks I was given before that moment of self-awareness.

Actually, looking back at that I realise my foibles are rather specific. :smalltongue:

It could be simply jubilance at having the rest of the summer free, my work experience being now over.

:smallcool:

ION:
Actually, after the trolley thing a man sitting on a sofa on top of a van with a megaphone told me I looked and sounded exactly like Tom Cruise. Perhaps I'm not so strange. :smallamused:

That has been the state of the thread since the very start. This monster is yours!
:smallamused:
I must say, I'm proud of the threadful puns that have been made so far.
