New tutorial on learning the new tables in depth: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?341034-table-s-in-the-Playground-All-you-want-to-know-about-the-table-code

OR, use the easy way. Find any post with a table you like, quote it. Copy the table code. Paste it into your own post. Change editor mode to WYSIWUG, by clicking the button in the top-left in the post editor. Congrats, you have the table right there.

Aye. Pre-set tables. All you need to do is fill in the "Special" Sections of the tables as thats not something I can well do for ya, now can I? Unless you were to ask me at least, then I could do up the specials for you as well.
Now, I'm not going to do them all at once. That would be boring. So I'll post as I go. Maybe reserve a post or three.. or four, just in case. Ya' never know, and post as I go.

You can copy the code in the box below the "Example". Or you can go here (http://pifro.com/dnd/NEW/) to fix up your own. (Switch "Formating" to "GITP")

Bonus! Heres how you may make your own table, personally!

[Tutorial=In Box]

^-- This starts the table off. Its important to add the =head part, or it just doesn't look right.
Next, the sections. On the =head row, add | to separate your desired sections such as:

{table=head] Levels | Spells | Fun Stuff

Once you have your sections its time to move on, Don't add a | at the end, just press enter once or more (if you so wish)
To make it look better, its recommended to Center(
and Bold() the headers.

So theres your header, and you've just pressed Enter. Your now on the next line.
Simply type the first row of content, Separate with the |, and continue. Like this:

1st | 0 | Suppah Speed

Again, no | at the end is needed, but sometimes it while your in the posting window. Any additional rows made that don't have a Head will be cut off.

Press enter again to continue on with desired stages such as 2nd levels and beyond.
Once your finished, close with:

A finished product would look something like this:

{table=head] Level | Spells | Fun Stuff
1st | 0 | Suppah Speed |
2nd | 1 | Blitzenkreg |
3rd | 2 | Skillz Shot | Lolikat
4th | 3 | Happy Dance |
[/table]

Notice below this box how the "Lolikat" gets cut off, as there is no fourth row.

{table=head] Level | Spells | Fun Stuff
1st | 0 | Suppah Speed |
2nd | 1 | Blitzenkreg |
3rd | 2 | Skillz Shot | Lolikat
4th | 3 | Happy Dance |
[/table]

For additional fun, you can add Titles and secondary box windows for greater visual impact and usefulness by adding a second table surrounding your table. But be careful, some people are bothered by dual tables and may make a complaint thread about it, so use with caution!

{table=head] Table 1: The Example | Spells
{table=head]Level | BAB | Sexy Save
1st | +1 | +2
2nd | +2 | +2
3rd | +3 | +3
4th | +4 | +3
5th | +5 | +3
[/table] | {table=head]1|2|3|4|5
1
2 | 1
3 | 2 | 1
4 | 3 | 2 | 1
5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1
[/table] [/table]

{table=head] Table 1: The Example | Spells
{table=head]Level | BAB | Sexy Save
1st | +1 | +2
2nd | +2 | +2
3rd | +3 | +3
4th | +4 | +3
5th | +5 | +3
[/table] | {table=head]1|2|3|4|5
1
2 | 1
3 | 2 | 1
4 | 3 | 2 | 1
5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1
[/table] [/table]

As you can see, this makes for an incredibly sexy table and greatly helps for features such as Spells.

Sometimes you just need to add something cut out some rows for a special box. Thats where {colsp=x} comes in. This will start an extended box starting in the section you listed it in onward.

{table=head]{colsp=5}Table: The GAR-MAN-CER |{colsp=5}GARmancy
Level | Base Attack Bonus | Fort | Reflex | Will | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5
1 | +1 |{colsp=3}
+2 | 1 |{colsp=4} - | - | - | -
2 | +2 |{colsp=3}
+2 | 3 | 1 |{colsp=3} - | - | -
3 | +3 |{colsp=3}
+3 | 5 | 3 | 1 |{colsp=2} - | -
4 | +4 |{colsp=3}
+3 | 7 | 5 | 3 | 1 | -
5 | +5/+0 |{colsp=3}
+4 | 9 | 7 | 5 | 3 | 1
[/table]

How did I make this equally sexy table that doesn't spawn complaint threads? Here, observe The Code~

{table=head]{colsp=5}Table: The GAR-MAN-CER |{colsp=5}GARmancy
Level | Base Attack Bonus | Fort | Reflex | Will | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5
1 | +1 |{colsp=3}
+2 | 1 |{colsp=4} - | - | - | -
2 | +2 |{colsp=3}
+2 | 3 | 1 |{colsp=3} - | - | -
3 | +3 |{colsp=3}
+3 | 5 | 3 | 1 |{colsp=2} - | -
4 | +4 |{colsp=3}
+3 | 7 | 5 | 3 | 1 | -
5 | +5/+0 |{colsp=3}
+4 | 9 | 7 | 5 | 3 | 1
[/table]

Still not getting it? You may have a sneaky SPACE in there somewhere. Yea, thats what I thought to. Spaces? really, gotta watch out for the little buggers. If you have a Space in between you | and your { the Colsp will fail.

Well there you go, now go explore the wonderful world of Homebrewing!

[/End Tutorial]

Now for the Main event, The Pre-Sets

To start if off, we have here a Blank class table.

I just want to throw out that there's an excellent table generator here (http://pifro.com/dnd/NEW/) that can create all sorts of different kinds of tables if you need things like spellcasting, medium saves, extra columns, or whatever. It can also generate them in several different formats including specifically for this board.

Ah. I prefer line-wrap usually, though it can be confusing once in a while, I don't see any such problems here. meanwhile side-scrolling annoys me more often then not.

Is there anywhere like that here that needs fixing?

You may notice the last of the tables failing in the collection of presets. If I recall, I could not find the source of the break. It is likely simply a problem with so much code in one post o-o;

Here's a 10-level sample prestige class that advances spellcasting, that I built using the forum's table function, and using data from the thread creator's broken tables.
As a rough guide, once you click on the button, make the following changes:
Rows: The number of rows is equal to the number of levels in the class, plus one. Bold each cell in the first line.
Columns: "Level" and "Base Attack Bonus" together require two columns. The three saves (Fort, Reflexes & Will) boost the required columns to five, "Special" adds another column, and the "Spells" column increases the total columns to seven.
Width: Change it to 715 if within spoilers
Table Style: Change it from "No Border' to "Full Grid".
Alignment: Select Center

Let me offer a quick guide on how to translate your excel table to this forum, in x easy steps. (Putting this in code brackets to prevent any of the commands from activating, god that looks ugly.)

In your excel sheet, below your already made table, have 2 cells with the following text (minus the "'s):

""
""

Below that start with 1 colum of "". have as many rows of that as you have rows in your table.

The next X colums are emtpy (the amount of colums in your table).

Then have a colum of "".

In the first colum, first row (after the first ) add the following code:

=CONCATENATE(A1,A3,C1)

Where A1 is the cell with "" in it, A3 is the top left corner of the table you wish to add to this forum, and C1 is the cell with "" in it.

Now change that line to the following:

=CONCATENATE($A$1,A3,$C$1)

This means that when you copy that line to other cells, the A3 cell will shift, while the A1 and C1 stay the same (you want to add to each, not the blank cells to the left or right of it).

Now drag/copy the code to all the empty cells between the [tr] and signs.

If you copy all the info from the top left most to the bottom right most you'll have most of your table there, so now lets set up the rest of our table.

What you need to add is the table header and closer (which Southern Cross describes above quite well, but...). But we can have the forum generate it for us.

Click the "table" button when writing your post (above the text box, bottom left button), enter your width, style and allignment (ignore the row/collow part).

In the code that appears, delete everything but the table commands, so from the first to the last

Inbetween the open and close table commands, copy past your encoded excel data.

Hit preview, enjoy your table (maybe add some bold for the headers?) and post your table.

ps: where I got my information (it has pictures! But is slightly confusing sometimes): Source (http://forum.oldweather.org/index.php?topic=3376.0) (start at step 6-ish and end roughly around 14).

AuraTwilight

Erm, check the dates; the thread was posted years ago, before the change happened. It's a thread that was used often, so people are now discussing updating it.

I'm wondering why the hell the tables were made so complicated in the "upgrade". The old method was easier to use and looked a lot better than the new version, so it's not so much an upgrade to tables than it is a major downgrade.

I liked how you could at least read the damn tables once you shoved them in here before. Now? they are a total mess.

From now on im just going to use screencaptures of the pifro standard table. its quite pretty (http://pifro.com/dnd/NEW/?F=NObase&N=paladin). (paladin linked to quicker show my point, not everyone has seen the glory of Pifro yet)

AuraTwilight

Yea, that IS pretty. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to make the custom tables do what I want in the Special Abilities column, and manipulating custom spell-per-day tracks can be incredibly stressful, if not impossible.

AuraTwilight

I did, but I can't figure out how to keep an ability from repeating every formula, or to set an ability to advance at an irregular pace (I can't get an ability to start at 1st level, advance at 5th, then 10th, because there's a different amount of levels between those points, etc.)

{fN/5+1} will get you something that progresses at the same rate as default Smite Evil.

Ive wasted probably about a month total (ive used it for 2 years) just poking at the tool to figure out every aspect. Level 0 itterates the ability from 0th level, but will begin you with the ability at lvl 1, for instance.

I'm really busy with other forums and some fairly serious irl issues as of late and don't really have the free time to sit down and work with the new tables.

However. In the mean time I recommend two things) Keep experimenting, and sharing your table designs. When I get time I can pick them apart to understand them quicker so I can catalog everything into the respective presets. A Tutorial would come later.

I also definitely recommend what making your tables on an external service as Toapat suggested, then screen shot.

Readers can't interact with your table anyway, and it's just an easy extra step on your part. You could also do things to edit your image itself to personalize it, who knows.

In the mean time, I don't have much time to dedicate to this forum right now. I'll come back to it. In maybe two or three months I'll be able to sit down and upgrade this topic. If someone else decides to make a replacement for this topic while I'll be disappointed, I'd definitely understand.

Yes. As we announced, the overall upgrade to the forum rendered the old table code inoperable, since it was a custom code. The new software came with its own (incompatible) table function, which Rawhide has now customized.

Oh, Seerow, how did you manage to make those tables? You can pm me with the data if you want.

Like Toapat said, you can just quote the post to get the full table code. Points of note for helping to build your own tables:

All of them use [table="class: head alt1 alt2 thick_outer_border_grid"], which gets most of the fancy styling.
Top Row then uses th tags instead of td, this combined with the "head" class makes for the top row being dark brown with the bold white text.
Note that th can be used outside of the top row if you want an extra header cell or row in your table.
To make a cell span multiple columns you simply use [td="colspan:X] where X is the number of cols you are spanning. (This was used in both of the spellcasting tables to help things line up better)

Where did you find out about the alt1/alt2 stuff?

It's in the big table thread in the Board/Site Issues forum. Rawhide added them a few days ago.

Okay, so if I understand this correctly, you input stuff ACROSS and not DOWN. Man, this is confusing.

You can input stuff across or down or however you want. I personally tend to lay out my tables the same way they will be rendered, but with the new code white space doesn't matter, only the code.

generates the same table as:

Which generates the same table as

and both of those are still the same as this:

They all generate this:

For what it's worth, the last version is how I typically lay out my tables. Each row in the text editor = 1 row in the table, start and end the row with trs, and each td makes a cell in that row.

It seems I cannot make posts without first quoting someone, otherwise this space is just all blank. To be fair, my computer is quite terrible and chrome is having issues of late.

Anyway.

I'm back until mid to late June.

I've been looking randomly through creations of peoples and perhaps I'm not looking in the right places, but the tables seem dreadfully boring now. Anyone want to share some interesting tables that I can pick apart to understand hands-on? Then use as a base from which I'll recreate my Presets and eventually a tutorial if it's needed.

Lovely, no need for me to bother it seems. *yawns*

Edit: I have updated the tutorial post.

An odd point I've noted:

When trying to make a table work as intended, it's important that you retype the " symbols for the header in the giantitp text box. I've tried moving stuff from word processors and the slanted " marks don't function in this context.

Examples:

Without Retyping:

abc
def
ghi
