Just a quick one, before I go buy one: How do I check if my computer uses DDR2 or DDR3 chips?

Open the system, pull one of the RAM sticks out, and look on the side- it should have a sticker with the type/speed/timings. Alternately, go over to cpuid.com and download CPU-Z, which will tell you the exact models and speeds of your CPU/Motherboard/RAM.

Alternative is to research your model online if it's not a DIY build.

If it's DIY you should a) know and b) still be able to find out online: just look up your mobo.

Basically, use the model and check online.
