If I didn't prepare myself for years for summer heat, I would be very uncomfortable right now. I wouldn't turn down a short blast from Mr. Freeze's gun on low because this New York City humidity is annoying.

The weather is being Swiss at the moment.

Until last week? One of the hottest summers ever recorded. Driest, too. Far over 30 degrees during the day. This week? Rain. Snow down to 2000 meters. It's near freezing, in July.

Ugh yeah. Heat is not my scene. I'm upstate of you, and it looks like we are currently slightly better off than you.

I don't have the exact figures, but it's about 20 degees Celcius and overcast here. I'm so glad I moved out here right now. :smallbiggrin:

Oh my goodness, you're right. It's like an oven out there. I heard someone say there was a forecasted heat index of 124. I believe it. And I think my roommate mentioned impending severe thunderstorms. At least, we got a notice there was lightning.

And yesterday, it was cooler back home in Florida than it is here in DC. I want my car back, with its lovely working air conditioning and parking close to the front doors of buildings, and highways that get me to entirely other cities in 20 minutes. Not the stupid no-AC buses that take an hour to get me across the city.

The Northwest has it pretty good.

Here in Washington it's been more winter/springish, that is grey, overcast, and occasionally rainy. It actually quite nice and sunny today. :smallbiggrin:

It's been overcast and raining (!) more often than not this summer. It bites, it megabites. Oh and muggy,oh so sticky, sticky muggy. It's sunny right now, but it was completely overcast when I first got up.

Three days in a row of heat indexes above 110° F. One of our suburbs reached 122° F heat index. Though I'm not really sure what a heat index is, never heard about that growing up.

It tells you something about how the temperature feels, taking into account humidity, which is many ways more informative then a straight temperature.
Just like a humid sauna feels hotter then a dry sauna for a given temperature, so to in high humidity. 122 F. my god, that's insane.

Same thing as a "wind chill."
Its a way for weathermen to make the temperature seem higher or lower than it actually is by taking into account other factors.

If they wanted to, they could take a windy area where it is 90 and say that it is 85 with wind chill, but that is much less impressive than saying it has a heat index of 100.

I see. It's only been recognized since 1979 but is used more now because everything on T.v has to be more hyped. Makes sense to me.

Here it is going to get up to about 90F/32C but the humidity is in the 20-30% range. Thats mostly what its been for the last week and probably about the same for the next couple weeks as well. Although 90F is about as high as its likely to get, it says the highs will be closer to 80 next week.

Today we had a high of 95 (35C to non Americans), with 45% humidity, which is on the low end for summer. Tomorrow it's supposed to only get up to 90 (32.2C), though I don't know how much I believe of that. The heat usually peaks in August, where it'll hit 100-105 (before heat indexes get added up) for a week, week and a half maybe. It's absolutely dreadful, and I LOVE summer and warm days. That's just too hot though.
