View Full Version : Looking for Episodic Horror Manga

So for some reason I ended up on the Slenderman thread, and I followed a reference to Gyo (http://www.manga123.com/read/Gyo) and its associated The Enigma of Amigara Fault (http://brasscockroach.com/h4ll0w33n2007/manga/Amigara-Full/Amigara.html), and now I want moar! But I don't know what to look for.
I've got this source (http://www.manga123.com/directory/category/Horror), but it doesn't have to be from there. I also note it doesn't have Spiral, which the movie has me interested in.
So yeah. What should I read? I prefer episodic (i.e. I can get through a full story in not too much time - manga equivalent to a short story, I suppose), and I enjoy the surreal and the weird.

Franken Fran could be describes as horror, and it's pretty episodic. It's also pretty weird.

If you liked Gyo, you should Read Uzumaki (http://read.mangashare.com/Uzumaki/chapter-001/page001.html).

It's a lot of seperate stories with what I think occasionally different characters, that take all place in the same remote town as things go more and more weird. And I think they are all in chronological order and taking place one after another, but each story centering on one specific event. I guess that's what you could call episodic.

It was one of the first mangas I've read and I love it.

I also love Monster. It's more of a crime story without supernatural elements and I wouldn't exactly call it horror. But it does have a completely insane serial killer who brainwashes people to become his lackeys. I think it's a bit like Steven King, without the supernatural.
However, it more reads like one big novel. It does have seperate chapters, but it's still always the same character following the Monster to different places.

Ah, that would be that Spiral I was talking about. Yes, it does seem to be the sort of thing I'm after, doesn't it? Thanks for the link.

I've started reading Bokurano. Too many characters for me to keep up with, and mecha. Not my thing, methinks :/ Shame, I felt like I had to read it when I saw the first one's called Kokopelli...

The Succubus

Serp, if that Engima one is the one I read a little while back, there's no way on Earth you could pay me to click that link again. I had frigging nightmares for a week afterwards.

It's pretty great

Huh... Uzumaki reads left to right, not right to left. Weird.

They were lazy and just printed the pages flipped, so you get all the pictures and speech bubbles in the western orientation.

I wish I could note Parasyte, but I can't, it's story based.

What is that series called? Masuo Tensai Negima? That series is pretty horrifying.

There's Fuan no Tane.

It's... weird. I don't know, maybe you'll like it. It's a collection of mostly atmospheric short horror stories. Some of them are even only one or two pages long.

Maybe you'll like it, maybe not.
