Any genre that the average joe can't start appreciating. (Dark Metal and other less easy appreciable forms of metal.)

Drone (Metal)
1st Sky Minimalism, Dahlia's Tear: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQ27PbfTyo4

A Shaving Of The Horn That Speared You, Sunn (((: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eyu6Ru3zF4I&feature=mh_lolz&list=PL8227148733B7EC28

All others are invited to post Youtube links to obscure stuff they like and what genre it is.

There are two music threads over in Media Discussions: this one (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=181577) and this one (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=213466).

That said, any sort of goth, doom, industrial, etc. is pretty difficult to get into, Suffice to say, I got into all of them.

Well, personally, I've always found this group (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXHyCoJ1h84) to be rather under-appreciated. Most tend to write them off, though.

Personally I've always found them inferior to this. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQDLetuU3JY)

For music that is still recognizable as music: free jazz. Very hard to get into, but it's worth it.

As much as I want to cull all crunkcore bands from the earth, the thing that bothered me most about that last video is that their instruments weren't plugged into anything. I've seen drone get more popular recently, but the crunkcore scene was always kind of popular with pop lovers and the wink wink hipster crowd. I just don't understand how anyone could be non-ironically elitist about it. :smallyuk:

I'm sorry but I think you'll find this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8F5YSA1Oz0) is far superior.

I don't listen to anything with a Wikipedia article.

The Red Towel: Also, moved to Media Discussions.

I clicked on this topic expecting to mention Sunn O))), but that's already been done. Here's some Psyopus (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agnGv_2gmSQ), who are also deliberately difficult to listen to, but in a completely different way. Their fans all seem to either be members of the grindcore crowd or composers (amateur or professional).

Also, here's a philosophy lecture set to jazz music (http://soundcloud.com/arielelkin/there-are-no-jazz-hating-dragons).

Will work my way through the above, so far only tried clicking the first link. Was pretty good.

In return, try this (http://youtu.be/p4RhrKN8zEA)
I've no idea what I'd label it, genre-wise. Wikipedia says experimental dark-ambient.

Tribes of Neurot is pretty good. I'd also try Dargaard (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T181kAj2lkM), or Die Verbannten Kinder Evas (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e23tPZIZVSo) or even Black Tape for a Blue Girl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CE-TbHbFVRA). Some of Mortiis' stuff also counts. Some of the stuff inches more into darkwave, which is also good.
