Where did this come from? Ive seen it on internet demotivator pictures, even read it as a joke in a few fanfictions, but what was the source?

I'm not familiar with this as a meme, but Bat Country is a reference to the novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear_and_Loathing_in_Las_Vegas) by Hunter S. Thompson, a movie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d0hEzXrWT4) about the novel and a song by Avenged Sevenfold (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHS3qJdxefY&ob=av3e) about the same.
In said book, there is a point where the protagonist is racing his car down the highway through the desert, very much under the influence of illicit drugs. He believes (hallucinates) that there is a swarm of angry bats following and attacking him, so he and his friend can't afford to stop the car, for fear that the bats will get him. He's in "Bat Country." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8gAtTxWhUY)
If you watch the first few minutes of the Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas movie, or the Bat Country music video by Avenged Sevenfold, it should clear things up.

It's from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas both the book and the movie. Probably made popular by the movie, if you haven't seen it you really should (and read the book as well).

You see? Thats why I put the topic here. i figured it HAD to be media related. Even if I found out it really was created by some mad genius with a cat poster. Thanks for letting me know, id been wondering and didnt feel like doing a search trawl to find out its source.

Makes more (er...less?) sense in context. Definitely a must-watch. There's another film coming out soon called 'The Rum Diaries' which is also about Johnny Depp playing Hunter S. Thompson, albeit earlier in Thompson's life. And honestly, that's what I thought this thread was about. Weird timing with the thread creation, man.

If you have a taste for Terry Gilliam's whimsical work and uniquely bizarre strangetudes, you can't miss "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", I'd say it's one of his best movies. Hell, it's one of the best movies of all time - even the Nostalgia Critic agrees.
