The newest version of the 2d6 rules is out and ready for use. This'll be the last ruleset for a while, as after this I'll be focusing on content like the fantasy setting and a number of one-shots that go with the system.

For those that don't know, 2d6 is a fast, fun, rules-lite system aimed at being completely universal, easy to learn and free of cholesterol!

Here's the address: http://2d6game.wordpress.com

I'm the creator, Josh Gager, so feel free to ask me anything! You can even whine, gripe or complain - all feedback is useful.

Enjoy!

Additional info:

The pdf is completely free, and the rules are also available as text on the website under the rules tab of the menu bar.

Let me know what you think!

minor tidbit, I changed my name to The Underlord(it is still listed as razoroftruth in the credits). Though I like the magic system, but I feel anyone who does not take some form of magicc will end up being weaker then characters who do take magic in non-combat situations. The amgic part of the fantasy setting doesnt appear to be edited for the new rules.

Cool, im listed as a contributer!

you havent updated Fantasy races to the new rules. You might want to put magic under Fantasy, or something, just because i wouldnt it should be part of the core of a universal system. I perfered having charisma as part of will, but I can understand the need for symmetry. I liked the old wound-soak method of armor, it made it feel like it doesnt last forever. I liekd the stat-rearange addition, it gives you a good feel of character development (in a story-sense). I liked the in-depth explanation of creating a race. If your OK with this, I can make a few races of my own, based on various media (such as Star Wars, Titan Quest, and D&D)

Id be up for another PbP, sorry about how the other went.

The fantasy setting hasn't been updated for the new rules yet, that's what I'm working on currently. Magic is powerful, but it's also unreliable. I've only playtested with these rules once so far, but they seem to work quite well.

I'll make sure to update the credits in whatever the next edition is, but for now it'll have to remain razoroftruth.

I'm always looking for user generated content, so if you send me what you've got I'll do my best to put it up on the site in a timely manner. : )

I'll start a new thread for a PbP once I'm done updating the Fantasy setting for the new rules. (There are also going to be some major cultural and geographical changes, so the maps are outdated as well now.

I like what you've done with it... seems overall more polished than the previous version.

I'm new to this ruleset, and I gotta say I like what I see. You've made a system simple enough (and tweakable enough) to use with my new players (I'm the only one with any RP experience).

EDIT: Actually, I have a question. The Skill THROW, can I use it to throw an enemy or other character? Or is it meant to throw something at said character?

I would say it depends on the game. If you're playing a lighthearted, relaxed game, then yeah it could definitely be used to throw another player, but in a more serious game I'd go with athletics modified by strength.

Also, thanks to both you and slashrunner!

It's simple, it's flexible, & it uses dice that everybody has in drawer. What's not to like?

Right?

Nah, but seriously, I wanted the game to be easy to learn. I feel like a lot of people who would love to play rpgs are intimidated by the complex rules that a lot of them entail. Plus, despite having an overly large dice collection, I never have the die I need when I need it. This way you can always scavenge a couple of d6's from a board game or something.

How do you create NPCs under thses rules? Like PCs?

Yeah, just stat them out as commoners instead of heroes (stat blocks are in the stats section)

Last question: Does the spell Destroy work on enemies, or just items and objects?

Yes, it can work on people, but that would be a very high DC to cast, and the defender would also get a resolve check to resist it.

Here are my TQ races. (http://filesmelt.com/dl/TQ_races.pdf) Depending on how these go, I may start working on a TQ setting(Warning:Spoilers], including magic rules and NPCs, such as the Telkines, Typhon, or Hades.

These look good. I hope you don't mind if I wait 'til you have a bit more to put them up on the site. It sounds like you've got an interesting mythic/antiquity Mediterranean kind of setting going. Flesh it out, run with it, and let me know what you've got : )

I would hope so, seing as Titan Quest is based in Ancient Greece. Also, I noticed a fail: I forgot to include Neanderthal. I thik I need a better skill than Athletics for Asian Humans, any suggestions?

Also, hint on the Magic System: I will group each seed into one or more "Masteries" of casting (nature, storm, earth, dream, and spirit), each one tied to a skill, for example there will be a Cast (spirit).

What do you mean by seed? Also, I'm fairly certain that storm and earth are encompassed by nature, and that dream and spirit would be closeley related. What kind of feel are you going for with this setting? High magic? Low magic? You have demons walking the earth - is it gritty or silly or somewhere inbetween?

Also, why are there Neanderthals alive in ancient Greece?

You have probably never played titan quest before. 'masteries' are the class system of the game(so nature mastery, earth mastery etc.).

Ahh, yeah I've never played. I love mythology, which is why i can't stomach games like it. It's one thing to use mythological creatures(though bastardizing them drives me nuts - I'm looking at you for the gorgon, DnD, you know what you did), I have no problem with that, but when you start using preexisting gods and mythic figures without regards to their original stories, it bothers me.

You should check out this thread. While the english is spotty, it makes a lot of good points:

I'm still confused on the Neanderthals though, they died out some 10,000 years before the start of TQ.

I'm the opposite, one of the main reasons I played it was because of the mythology connection. I guess I learned to tune out the sreaming mythology nerd within me.

With the neanderthals, they were one of the main enemies in act 3, which is why I chose them. They make absolutely no sense, of course (watch out for the meteors!). My interpetation of the setting for 2d6 will follow a more clsassic interpratation of the greek myths.

Cool Beans!

I'm sorry if I seemed like I was being harsh. The only thing I would say is that I'd have to look more closely at copyright law if I were to publish this on the website, since TQ is not covered by the OGL.

I would be willing to say that a majority of the locations, weapons, and enemies could not be copyrighted, due to teh fact that they are based of mythology and real ancient greece.

Yes, that's part of the reason fantasy designers love to use mythology, because they don't have to deal with copyright law. However, if you were to call it Titan Quest, or if the universe had too many unique similarities (like Neanderthals being in ancient greece for example) there might be a bit of a problem.

Techinicly, they were in the asian part of the game.

the world of Titan Quest is basicly your standard Ancient World but filled with the mythology of the people setting.
