Class Features: All of the following are Class Features of the Prismatic Priest prestige class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Prismatic Priests gain no proficiency with any weapon or armor.

Spells per Day/Spells Known: When a new Prismatic Priest level is gained, the character gains new spells per day (and spells known, if applicable) as if they had also gained a level in a spellcasting class they belonged to before they added the prestige class. They do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. This essentially means that they adds the level of Prismatic Priest to the level of some other spellcasting class the character has, then determines spells per day, spells known, and caster level accordingly.

Learn Prismatic Spell: At each Prismatic Priest level, the character learns about a new prismatic spell of their choice. This spell becomes added to their spells known list for the class whose spellcasting gained a level. They may choose to learn a spell higher level than they can currently cast, but they won’t be able to actually cast it until they gain the required spell slot. A spellbook using class must still scribe such spells into their spellbook in order to prepare them, although they don’t need to read a scroll or contact another caster to gain knowledge of them.

Prismatic spells gained in this manner are cast as other spells from that class, including arcane or divine distinction, relevant ability scores, and save DC’s. This may be done even if the prismatic spell is not normally on that class spell list. If the spell is not already on the class spell list, treat it as the lowest level of other classes that can cast it. For example, if a Cleric learns a prismatic spell whose level is “Dru 5, Sor/Wiz 3” treat it as a 3rd level Cleric spell that can be prepared in a 3rd level Cleric spell slot.

Veil Knowledge: A first level Prismatic Priest learns the secret of making the Seven Veils set of magic items (MIC page 211-213). They can craft such items without needing an existing piece of the set, although they must still meet all feat and other requirements to create those items. This ability can benefit even those unable to craft items, as they can provide the “possession of a piece of the set” requirement if cooperating with other crafters.

Prismatic Manipulation: A 2nd level or higher level Prismatic Priest, when casting any prismatic spell or spell-like ability (such as Prismatic Spray) that requires rolling to determine which color effect(s) apply, may as a free action influence the result. For a number of targets affected by the spell up to their Prismatic Manipulation rank, they may choose a number of colors up to their Prismatic Manipulation rank that are guaranteed not to hit those targets. For those targets, reroll any results that come up with the selected colors. One may not choose more colors than there are available, and any “multiple color” results may still potentially apply (assuming there are at least two colors left that can still affect the target). Once one is able to reduce the number of colors to one, they can effectively choose which color they want to affect the target. Colors are only chosen once per casting, and apply to only the selected targets, where the other colors are still present elsewhere within the prismatic effect and may affect others within it.

For example, a 2nd level Prismatic Priest has Prismatic Manipulation 1 (one color and target). When fighting a pair of demons (immune to electricity), they cast Prismatic Spray over them, and choose for the yellow result of electricity damage to never come up on the first demon (the other demon may still be affected by any color). For the first demon they roll 3 (yellow), and reroll getting 8 (two colors). The two colors are initially rolled as 4 (green) and 3 again (yellow). They reroll the 3 again, getting 1 (red). That demon is affected by the red and green prismatic effects.

For personal range prismatic spells such as Prismatic Aura, the Prismatic Priest may choose colors each time somebody else activates their aura and is randomly affected by a color, a number of times equal to their Prismatic Manipulation rank. For prismatic spells with duration such as Prismatic Mist, Prismatic Manipulation only applies during the round the spell is cast. In later rounds the Prismatic Priest may as an immediate action redeclare targets and excluded colors for a particular prismatic spell.

Prismatic Manipulation may also be applied if the Prismatic Priest is affected by any prismatic spell or spell-like ability. In such a case they may choose one or more colors (up to the current number of colors allowed by Prismatic Manipulation) that are guaranteed not to hit them. This usage does not affect any other targets within the prismatic spell, but may be applied additional times if one is affected multiple times by a spell with duration (such as if one is walking through a casting of Prismatic Mist).

In the rare case where both the caster and the target have levels in Prismatic Priest, union the colors they select together into a single set. If their combination causes all colors to be restricted, then decrease both their effective Prismatic Manipulation ranks by one for that casting and recheck, until one or more colors become available to affect the target. (Those with multiple Prismatic Manipulation ranks should select colors in priority order, in case some of their restrictions don’t apply.)

Prismatic Mastery: A 7th level Prismatic Priest learns all prismatic spells, as if they were each selected by Learn Prismatic Spell. These spells include Rainbow Beam (SpC), Rainbow Blast (SpC), Rainbow Pattern, Prismatic Mist (SpC), Prismatic Ray (SpC), Prismatic Aura (CM), Prismatic Spray, Prismatic Eye (SpC), Prismatic Wall, Prismatic Bow (CM), Prismatic Sphere, Prismatic Deluge (CM), and any other prismatic spells that exist in the campaign world. A spellbook using class gains the effect of the Spell Mastery Feat applied to each prismatic spell. That allows them to prepare such spells without a spellbook (although they may scribe such spells into their spellbook paying normal costs if they wish).

Comments:
This is a full caster progression class, making it so modern caster characters might at least consider taking it. :smallwink: Its benefits aren’t fundamentally earth shaking, so it pales in comparison to the most optimized choices.
Sorcerers should appreciate this class more, as by the end it gives them 12 additional spells known, and makes some of those spells more effective, basically allowing them to choose which color of spells like Prismatic Spray apply, making it a 7 in 1 spell. But spontaneous casters need love. :smallwink:
It can also be taken by non-arcane classes such as Cleric or Druid (the name “Prismatic Priest” is more than just alliteration ) if they want to add some offensive nukes to their arsenal.
I could see one taking only some levels if they want just a particular prismatic spell or two. For example, avoid the capstone level, since it gives no BAB or saves, and because one may intentionally choose to avoid using all ranks of Prismatic Manipulation to force the color in Prismatic Spray, to instead leave two colors (which means any “two colors” result is still present), for a 1/3 chance of both applying.
The cheapest way for those who don’t have prismatic spells on their class or domain lists to get in is by buying and Use Magic Device-ing scrolls of Rainbow Beam and Rainbow Blast.
The low skill ranks allow one to start taking it at level 5 without early entry cheese, allowing builds such as Sor/Wiz 4, Prismatic Priest 7, Initiate of the Seven Fold Veil 7 (for another prismatic themed PrC), Anything Else 2.

I must say, this is pretty awesome. I love the Prismatic spells, personally, and the very thought of getting all of them as divine spells makes me grin like a maniac. Looking over the class, you did a very good job of making the class unique without being overpowering, and still keeping the flavor of the original classes in tact. My hat off to you, sir. I would play this, probably with some Favored Soul tweaking just for fun.

Hmm...just a nitpick, but Colour Spray doesn't count for purposes of entry into this class?

Yes, Favored Soul should appreciate this PrC even more than Sorcerer, since it not only extends spells known but also provides spells divine classes normally don't have access to. A Favored Soul of Pelor (the Sun makes rainbows) or Boccob (rumored to have created the Seven Veils set of magic items) would fit best roleplay-wise.

As written, no, because a "prismatic spell" must have "prismatic" or "rainbow" in its title. Color Spray (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/colorSpray.htm) is only related to color in its fluff, and only mentions a "cone of clashing colors" instead of a rainbow. A DM may choose to extend the definition of "prismatic spell" to also include any spell with "color" in its name, which would pick up Color Spray, Blinding Color Surge (PHB2), and Discolor Pool (SPC). Although remember each additional spell makes the PrC more powerful, by making it potentially easier to quality for and by adding to the set of spells known. There are a few other spells related to colors that one might consider to meet the theme, such as Radiant Assault (SpC) and Scintillating Pattern (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/scintillatingPattern.htm).
