So I could be wrong in my reasoning, but if V cannot teleport because conjuration/summoning is V's barred school, how does she have a familiar.

am I misremembering the restriction or is find familiar not Conjuration Summoning?

In older editions, maybe, but this is 3E/3.5E- in both of those there is no Find Familiar spell- it's a class feature that all wizards get, unless they trade it in for an alternative class feature in a splatbook.

Under 3rd edition, getting a familiar is a class feature (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/classes/sorcererWizard.htm#sorcererFamiliar), not the function of a specific spell.

A familiar is a class feature available to all wizards and sorcerers, unless they choose an alternate class feature over it.

If you could trade it, I wonder why V didn't, seeing as how he thought Blackwing was pretty much useless for the first 600 strips.I'm kidding. I know it was because of jokes.

Because in 3.5, you can have a familiar regardless of banned schools.

White text aside... options within the rules to trade away the familiar didn't exist when the comic started.

So I could be wrong in my reasoning,

Your post is pure 2ed, or possibly 1ed. There's a Conjuration school, but no such school as "Conjuration/Summoning," and, as other people have said, there's no such spell as Find Familiar.

Please don't ask how Miko could have a Charisma below 17 or when the level limitations are going to kick in for Durkon, Vaarsuvius, and Belkar.

First because at first all oots characters had core (ie player book) builds. Second because V and the others were ported from 3e to 3.5e on the first strip and I don't think they had alternate class features back then (by then I mean the 3e to 3.5e transition, not the strip release date).

How do you know that? As far as i know, Charisma has lots to do with self-esteem, and i don't see any lack of this in Miko... :smallwink:

Yes, but it also has to do with what you do with that self-esteem. In Miko's case, I'd argue that her specific mode of applying it degraded her charisma again a lot.

I didn't say Miko provably had a Charisma below 17. I said she could have a Charisma below 17. :smalltongue:

Given that 3 ware posted during the same minute, it was probably a case of them all replying almost simultaneously.
