----

A Half-Elf, dressed in a finely woven blue and gold robe, adorned with red and green floral embroidery saunters up to you. The stiff wind makes his long, blonde hair flow backwards like a sea of yellow-white wheat. His cheek is emblazoned with a shimmering blue and purple tattoo. His voice is melodic yet firm, "I am Tarsis d'Lyrander of House Lyrander. Milady Esravash d'Lyrandar, matriarch of our House, has taken note of your skills and has followed your career with great interest for many years now. She would like to invite you to her manor on the island of Stormhome." He pauses for a moment as he retrieves a a rolled parchment, bound by a golden silk ribbon. "This is your invitation. She is expecting you on the 16th of Aryth. You may board the the Kind Cleaver, one of our Airships, which will see you safely to Stormhome."

The Kind Cleaver is a small airship, probably one of the first constructed by House Lyrander. It has perhaps 20 crew members, all of whom look like veteran sailors. The Captain, one of Nataru d'Lyrander, has the look grizzled old man, who has seen too much combat, too much death. You inquired to the crew and they told you he was once a Captain in the Aundair Navy, he saw battle in the Scion Sound on a regular basis. Hashala d'Lyrander, the female first mate of the ship, looks far more elven than her half-elven kin, with high cheek bones and green eyes; she has the look of youth and inexperience about her yet the way she barks orders at the crew and the manner in which she carrier herself, says the opposite.

You find yourselves in the wardroom, awaiting appetizers. You can hear Snickerdoodle, the goblin cook, cursing to himself in goblin as the sound of pans clanking and fire roaring boom out of the floor below you. The wardroom is nicely adorned, with several pictures of half-elves wearing fancy clothing, as well as a few landscape paintings scattered about. The dining table was removed from the room, to accommodate several sofas and other chairs. As you look around, you see a dozen or so people mingling, some are recognizable, others not. The First Mate sits alone in a chair looking longingly out the window. One of those traveling with you, a human dressed in an outfit that marks him as a noble from Lhazaar, stands about flirting with several of the servants; a Hobgoblin wearing a silver breastplate, acts as his wingman. Three Dwarves stand at the back of the room, by the small bar, drinking heartily. Two elves, dressed in flowing robes, sit next to the door, stone silent.

Given recent events, you can't help but think these guests may have something to do with what the Sharn Inquirer is calling the Dragonshard War...

Cav

What a group this makes....Cav smiles at some private thought and nods toward the man sitting close by. "How are you enjoying the trip, Sir d'Orien?" Cav asks and leans back, a short glass of rum in one hand. "I remember the first time I saw one of these airships..." He chuckles and swirls the dark brown liquor in the glass. "...my first thought was how do they do that? A close second was how do I get my own?" With a wink he drinks the rest in the glass and sets it on a nearby counter. "Truthfully, I haven't really figured out an answer to either one just yet. Something always seems to come up."

The Faceless Man

Saal appears as a short, well groomed human with long silk black hair and a hawk nose. He dresses in a fashionable dreamsilk doublet that glows with the yellow and red of a Sharn sunset with matching breeches. Beneath the doublet is a cloudsilk tunic that appears the color of white mist. His cloudsilk hat is feathed with a single red plume.

Saal smiles warmly and greets all who approach him with cheerful smiles of flashing white teeth. He introduces himself to any who inquire with tradition Aundarian pride. Seeing the lone mate, Saal extracts himself from any would-be conversationalists and glides over to her sofa.

With a flourish, he removes his hat and bows deeply. "Pardon me, m'lady. I could not help but notice both your beauty and your disinterest. What burdens you?"

The First mate, still staring out into the blue skies, dispassionately states, "The Bar does not have a bottle of Château Fairhaven... Its the wine I always drink on this, the day my sis..." She cuts herself off, shakes her head and looks up into the eyes of Saal, "Sorry, I was just reminiscing about ancient history. What brings you aboard Mr... Saal, was it?"

Off in the distance you can hear Lord Gunner Fate come to the climax of some heroic tale of adventure he had on the high seas. A red haired half-elf servant seems quite taken with the Lhazaar nobleman. The groans of disbelief emanating from Law Chiefsaber, dignitary from Droaam, are clearly audible to everyone except for Lord Fate and his doting servant girl.

Roarf Waur, the ugliest of the three Dwarves, saunters up to Cavolinus Archer, a pint of ale in hand and rather jovially says, "How be ye laddy? I be hearin you're quite the Knight. My brother back there," Roarf points towards Tanro, "Says you saved a damsel from... Well some less than reputable folk. A man like you," Roarf lowers his voice and whispers, "Could go far by working with me an' my Clan. When this silly business in Q'Barra is over, I will be requestin' your services." The Dwarf then chuckles loudly, pats Cavolinus on the back, and quite loudly says, "Ah yes, I would love your recipe for Vulture Stew!"

Saal nods, his face feigning empathy. "Yes, my dear. My name is Saal. Today is not about me however, but...ancient history." He puts his hand on hers. "Perhaps, I can find some Château Fairhaven and we could toast those who still haunt our hearts. I shall make it my quest." Saal pledges as he departs in search of the elusive wine.

Khaz

Khazomiel smiles along at the end of Lord Fate's tall tale, and takes a demure sip from a glass that has steadfastly remained at three-quarters full for most of the party. Truth be told, she'd rather be outside admiring the blazing elemental rigging that keeps the ship aloft- in part to have an excuse to keep the hood of her robes up and her horns covered. Still, his stories are no less entertaining for being thoroughly implausible, and there does seem to be an endless supply of them...

The latest explosion of noise from the kitchen, though, has Khaz a little concerned. She turns to a nearby servant- "Is everything alright down there?"

Khazomiel flags down a tall, ruggedly handsome Human male, with flowing blonde hair and bulging biceps. He turns, slowly, as if trying to maximize the amount of time his long hair can remain afloat. His voice is chiseled and deep, "Milady," The servant bows deeply, "It is my pleasure to inform you that all is well in the Kitchen. The Head Chef is..." He dashes his head to the left and feigns grief, "How shall I say, a bit eccentric, no? Sadly, he enjoys chaos far too much. However," his head swings back forward, his hair flows in air behind him like a sea of wheat, his eyes meet yours as he continues, "When you live aboard a ship as long as I have, venturing from one exotic port to the next, you learn to accept the faults of others and, in time, embrace their eccentricities. Chef Snickerdoodle is merely putting on a show for all to hear. He does this so you will be most kind when he asks you how his food tastes... Which, as a fellow employee of this fine, sturdy ship, I can assure you is quite excellent."

Oh my.

"Well. I'll look forward to it, then," she mutters, momentarily tongue-tied. She looks away, composing herself in the length of time it takes to tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear, then gives the sailor a polite smile.

And I certainly hope your friend finds that kindness isn't the sole purview of sailors and long acquaintances."

Bren

Sitting in the belly of the beast that threatens Orien's overland transportation, Brennen manages to remain cordial with his hosts, for the sake of his mission. He shares a drink with the friendly gentleman beside him, and does his best to entertain the comments on the airship, Yes, the craft is truly a wonder. He chuckles at Cav's remarks concerning acquiring a ship of his own, but the man's wink sets off a familiar feeling in the Orien heir. He extends his hand to shake Cav's, Brennen Adalgo d'Orien. Forgive me but, have we met before?

He listens as the dwarf praises the man beside him, and then catches a glimpse of another familiar face, though this one he recognizes. He waves to Khaz in greeting and invites her over to join him and the gentleman sitting next to him.

Vaine

Vaine casually strode around the ship, making conversation with most everyone. He was a short, skinny human (at least in form) with brown hair, green eyes and pale skin. His clothing looked fairly ordinary, but those with discerning tastes would recognize the materials as at least fairly expensive.

During this trip, Vaine decided to use his talents to "fit in". Having travelled a great deal, he could reasonably carry on a conversation about a great many things, most of which would be true. He casually conversed with the dwarves, the hobgoblin and the Captain and First Mate. Everytime, he would talk of a great many things, but be vague enough by not mentioning names and dates. Even here, someone may be tracking him.

He silently cursed being invited using his true name. It wouldn't be prudent to start to use a false name with those here since he didn't know who else was invited (or knew his real name). He only made mention of it when asked, however.

Seeing two of the "other" humans conversing about the airship, he decided to take his barely-touched wine glass and join them. "Greetings and well met. What brings each of you on a vessel towards Stormhome?"

Cav

"A Knight? Believe me, the stories grow in each telling. No, I've merely a sword and not much smarts and have been lucky to be in the right place at the right time...well, more than a few times." Cav says and chuckles, then leans over to the end table and pours some more rum into his glass. "I rarely plan that far ahead, but I've longed to see the dwarven homelands." He says quietly out of the corner of his mouth and shifts back to his seat.

"I'm afraid someone's tricked you, Sir Dwarf. The first thing you need to know about Vulture Stew is that you don't want to eat it. Seriously. Gnawing off your own leg would be a better meal." Cav closes his eyes briefly and shivers. "Not that I've tried that delicacy, but the stew you're referring to would blanch even the staunchest dwarf, and that's no insult." He says and raises his glass. "It's a foul brew, made with a demons curse. I'll say no more of it this evening."

With a nod towards the dwarf Cav turns to the d'Orien. "Not personally, no, but I've heard of an exploit or two. I'm impressed, and that's no easy feat." Cav takes a sip and then shakes the offered hand. "Right, of course. I'm Cav Archer, an...explorer and guide, I suppose."

Bren

Brennen shakes the man's hand, his mind working on the name. Cav... Archer, Cav... Archer. Jungles and strange elves of blackest skin come to mind, and Brennen can see that same wink the man just gave him. Suddenly, and with a snap of his fingers, Cav Archer! Yes, you're the explorer traveling the Thunder Sea! Now that the veil has been lifted from his mind, Brennen visibly relaxes and follows Cav's example, pouring himself another glass.

I recognized you from the novels they print of your exploits. I buy them for my nephew when I can. I no longer train him for his duties in the House, now I must train him to fight giants and fire-wielding elves. He stops just before taking another sip, jokingly adding as an after-thought, Having never faced a giant or fire-wielding elf, I'm hardly qualified to teach him such things, but we get along as best we can.

When Vaine comes over, Brennen gives a non-committal smile, Business I presume, but at the moment, fine spirits and company.

After chatting with a Halfling servant, you discover that there are two bottles of Château Fairhaven onboard - one is in Snickerdoodle's Kitchen and the other in Lord Gunner Fate's private quarters, located above the wardroom. The guard then unlocks the door and holds it open for you.

The private quarters are nice and toasty, especially compared to the outdoors. There are several chairs (each with a different embroidered design). A large bed lies in the corner, with silken sheets and covered with rose petals. A desk has several open letters lying on top, while the cabinet next to the desk appears to house several wine bottles. The Knight scowls in the direction of the Valenar Elves before continuing, "I am a soldier. I do as I am ordered. My biggest concern right now is finding a way to stop those Karrnathi soldiers from mobilizing. As we speak King Kaius III is negotiating the use of the Lightning rail from with House Orien. If he secures such a deal, then, the Regalport Alliance will be at a severe disadvantage... Which is why we are heading to Stormhome... But I'm sure you already deduced this."

The Hobgoblin flashes a smile, "Milady, I do not know why the Matriarch has sent for you but you are all accomplished warriors and adventurers... Hopefully the Matriarch is looking to hire you for an unrelated task."

Chiefsaber sighs as he listens to Bren, "None really. The Dwarves have no legitimate claim on the dragonshards... Other than the fact that it was a Dwarven shepherd who found the load. The Mror Hold say it is an "ancient Dwarven custom" that those who find mineral wealth have claim to the entire load. The Q'Barrans scoffed at such a claim - a Dwarf may have found the dragonshards but the mine is clearly well within Q'Barra's territory. However, as the old goblin adage goes, 'Para soz konusu degildir cuce guvenmiyorum.' Loosely translated, it means "Don't trust a Dwarf when money is involv..."

Lord Fate saunters up as the Hobgoblin speaks, "Now, now Law, let us not spoil the party with your negative attitude." The Lord swings his arm around his companion and jovially exclaims, "We all knew another war was brewing, it just so happens that this particular war will make us all wealthy beyond the dreams of avarice! Do not worry my darling," Fate looks into Khaz's eyes, This little conflict will be over in a matter of weeks! The Dwarves, Darguun and the Lhazaar Principalities will get their percentage of the total profits and the territory of Valenar will expand."

Fate's smile grows large, "You see, we may seem like ignoble conquerors, bullying a small nation but I assure you, we are not! We fully intend to cut Q'Barra into the deal, if they'll have it! We are as benevolent as they come!"

Anru Dawnfox, a representative of Valenar gracefully glides over to the center of the room, her feet barely touching the ground as she walks. She wears a tight fitting, parchment colored hijab; her tan skin emphasizes her stunning beauty and her two glistening green eyes. Her voice is melodic yet measured, "We Valenar Elves shall see to victory, of that you can be assured. I agree with the Hobgoblin though, an alliance between House Orien and Karrnath would be most dangerous to our cause. Our friends in House Lyrandar are our only hope to maintain tactical superiority on land... But even this advantage I have hear..."

Lord Fate shoots Dawnfox an angry grimace as he shakes his head.

Dawnfox continues, "But even this advantage, I have heard... May not be enough. Thus..." Anru delicately grasps a glass of wine and raises it towards Khaz, Cav, Bren and Vaine, "We must seek allies from all walks of life. To new friends."

Vaine

Vaine, now sitting with the rest, has managed to keep a low profile, saying very little during the conversation. When it turned toward the impending war, he perked up and listened carefully. He knew what the general public was given through the news sources, but little else. Given the high-profile nature of the events, he figured to stay away from all this mess. But here he is and he still didn't quite understand why. Sure, the Lyrander family seemed to know more about him than was comfortable, but why did he agree to meet with them instead of running away? They had more to worry about then a single changeling.

At this point, Vaine feels like he's been too quiet and decides to participate a little more in the conversation. When Anru makes the toast, Vaine raises his glass with the rest. Looking over at Anru, he says, "forgive my impatience, but I'm curious about what I and these others have specifically been summoned for. I hear that the conflict will be 'over in a matter of weeks' and the elves will 'see to victory', but I sense less confidence than those boasts may otherwise indicate. Surely this is more complicated than a simple territorial acquisition. Forgive me if I'm speaking out of turn."

While Vaine didn't expect any new information to come from this conversation, he was more interested about how the others would react. THAT was far more useful than boring war strategy. If anyone got hostile over his probing comments, he would brush it off as mere curosity.

The eerie crackle of a teleportation spell echos from outside the wardroom.

Lord Fate stops his flirting for a moment and looks towards the door, "Who would teleport here... And now? We're a moving object... It would take powerful magic to pull off such a fea..."

Suddenly, an intense blast of magic strikes Lord Fate's private cabin, which lies above the Wardroom. Its powerful force effortlessly sheers the roof and walls off the cabin. The Faceless Man, acting on instinct, lunges forward just in the nick of time to see the whole cabin pass over him as he stands in the pathway of the open balcony doors. The poor Bugbear guard was caught completely unawares and was thus shoved off the stern of the ship, plummeting to his presumable demise.

The servants inside the cabin drop their patters, scream and attempt to find a hiding place. Fate and Chiefsaber give a nod to one another; as they draw their swords seven men appear in the wardroom, as if out of thin air. Each wears a cowl with a black veil, which obscures their faces. The seven enemies, in unison, charge forward and each grapple one of the seven dignitaries. Though each tries to squirm away, the hold of the cloaked figures is unflinchingly tight. The Seven then yell, once more in unison, "TELEPORT!" In a puff of smoke, each abductor and abductee disappears.

From outside you can hear a shrill voice of a man yelling, "LEAVE NO WITNESSES!" From outside the cabin, you can hear the cries of pain and the pleas for mercy as the sailors on deck are slaughtered.

Another voice calls out, "FORCEBALL!" less than a second later, the two sturdy doors to the wardroom are blown asunder, pulverized into bits of timber and thousands of splinters.

Threw the doorway, you can see eleven men. The first row of four look like warriors wearing black mail armor, each wielding a black, blood-drenched morningstar. Behind them stands an imposing knight, of some kind, clad in ebony-black plate armor with the symbol of a wolf carved into the chest; he wields a short sword and a thick metal shield. Behind him, lies a female dressed in a black cloak, the after effects of powerful magic still lingering around her hands. Next to her, a man with flowing black hair, wearing stark white mail armor (with a red wolf engraving), he brandishes a very long sword that is nearly as tall as he is. Behind those two, spaced far apart, lie 4 archers, clad in black-hide and armed with bows.

The white-armored enemy speaks with a melodic voice, "I do not wish to fight, merely to kill all witnesses. If you lay down you arms, I promise to make the experience as painless as possible. If you refuse, your deaths will not only be excruciatingly long but very, very painful."

Cav

Throughout the violent shaking of the ship Cav is tossed about on the couch, yet he manages to hold onto his drink. With a small smile he raises it to drink the last of it and that's when the door bursts open and a large chunk of the flying debris knocks into his hand and shatters the glass on the floor. Cav looks down at the spilled drink for a moment and then shakes his head as he stands and draws his blade. "That...was very rude. You've no decency at all, to deny the condemned their last drink."

He glances at the remaining travelers around him. "Well, shall we cast straws and vote or is the plan fairly simple?" He asks as he dips his thumb into the spilled rum and runs it against the back of his rapier. The blade begins to shake and the air fills with a heavy reverberation, then Cav thrusts the rapier towards the knight as if to stab him and a roll of thunder rushes towards the foe.

Brennen can feel the traces of an oncoming teleportation a moment before it happens, but has little time to react the attack. He grabs onto Law Chiefsaber and struggles to free him from the grasp of one of the strange cowled men, but the invader proves too strong and resourceful, he vanishes with the rest of the attackers and with Law Chiefsaber and the other dignitaries.

The doors then explode and more attackers appear. A cry of 'Leave no witnesses' is heard from outside. The man in white armor speaks, a promise to end them one way or the other. Acting more on instinct than thinking, he continues to roll onto his feet beside the cabinet, drops the bottle and grabs the letters off the desk along with the glowing dagger before rushing down the stairs. Seeing the scene downstairs, Saal rolls over the desk and land nimbly. He twirls the glowing dagger and takes up a fighting stance. "I'm guessing these people are responsible." he says to the others.

Cav's brutal melodic attack staggers the burly knight, who is then stabbed and poked by Bren's rapturous magic, which also slays an initiate. Khaz reigns down a gout of fire upon her enemies, eliminating a handful of archers, while Vaine's mental assault confirms the kill. At the same time, Khaz releases the energy of her staff and flings both the Knight and Wizard off the side of the ship. Meanwhile, the Faceless Man bobs and weaves so as to grab all the letters with relative ease.

Janus yells out, "YOU SLEW MY FAVORITE LACKEYS!" He then ponders for a moment before dashing off the side of the ship himself. As you peer off in that direction you can see Janus flick a switch and his cape suddenly stiffens and turns into a hang-glider, which sees him down to the plains below with ease.

The archers in the back fall where they stand from the flames. The wizard, on fire, dashes about madly, running towards the railing and taking the knight over the edge in his pain throes. Brennen reaches for the two of them but the heat of the flames keeps him from actually grabbing either one. He quickly turns his attention back to the warriors still around him. The white-armored man flees, leaping off the ship himself. The remaining warriors surrender. Bren, Cav, and Saal manage to destroy the clockwork snake, and the strange mechanical creature expends its last reserve of energy exploding before the three adventurers. Brennen is able to avoid any injury behind his shield, but his two companions are not as fortunate. Are you ok? Both Cav and Saal seem fine, the injuries minor, and, after checking on Heshala, Cav confirms that she is dead. Damn, that puts a kink in things.

Just then Khaz arrives and explains the situation with the elementals. I don't know... Bren says to the others, I've heard of elementals breaking free during the war. It's not pretty. It is bound now, but once you set it free, there's no telling what it will do.

Bren moves outside and grips the rail on the side of the ship, looking out in the direction they are heading. He considers their options and decides they really only have one that doesn't involve fighting for their lives against a raging fire elemental. He steps in to rejoin the others.

I can get us off the ship but I need time. I can get us to Flamekeep, but it may be quicker to go to Passage and take the Lightning Rail north, assuming we are set on making this meeting at Stormhome. Needless to say, Lyrander may need us now more than ever. In either case, someone has to occupy that elemental. If anyone has any other ideas, now would be the time to voice them.

Brennen can use Link Portal, but it takes ten minutes to create the portal. I don't know what else we can do, but if we take that route, which destination do you think would make more sense? Flamekeep is closer, but the Lightning Rail may make up that difference in Passage.

We could also just land and risk fighting the elemental. (Which reminds me, where are we in Khorvaire at the moment?)

Almost as an afterthought, he turns to Khaz. "What do you know of these bindings? If the ship crashed, would the elemental be harmed? He might not be so eager to injure us if so and could simply be bluffing."

This just keeps getting worse, Vaine thinks to himself. The ship is damaged, the elemental is being difficult and most of the ship's crew and guests are kidnapped or dead. This is why I never rode in one of these things before.

Sighing, he looks around, trying to find some way to be of use. When he hears Khaz mention the elemental, he listens carefully to her and the others' suggestions. "Bren, lets keep that option open, but both of those locations are very far from Stormhome, at least 500 miles. Khaz, can we convince the elemental to get us to Stormhome somehow? I'm quite adept at persuasion and I'd like to try if you think it won't make things worse."

Bren

Bren shrugs his shoulders, Unless this ship has a sending stone and a little Sivis heir that survived the attack, I'm not sure how we'll get in touch with Lyrander.

And from what I've heard of crashing airships, that's how the elementals get released. I don't know for sure of course.

He turns to Vaine, I know it's far. But Flamekeep is only about two hundred miles from here. And the setback is better than letting an elemental dash us into the Starpeaks. Bren reaches for his pack and starts to rifle through it. Look, if one of you can fast talk that thing and get it to let us reach Stormhome, great. But I'd suggest you do that sooner better than later.

After retrieving some items from his bag, Brennen clears a wide space on the floor of the sitting area and begins to draw an intricate diagram.

While the others make contingency plans, Vaine does the most uncharacteristically brave thing he can think of; bluff the fire elemental. Khaz wields true power and can gain the creature's respect. Vaine's power, however, mostly came from mental subterfuge and deceit; hardly something that provoked fear in anyone. Nonetheless, he didn't even have time to talk himself out of it before he faced the elemental being. Putting everything he can into this, he sent out a telepathic message. "Hear me. Esravash d'Lyrander has promised to release you after you fly this ship safely to Stormhome. That is your only hope of freedom."

See powers below. I'm also using Adept's Insight (augment 1, add 1d4+1 to a single check)

Send Thoughts
You communicate telepathically with a creature.
Psionic
Free Action -- Ranged 20
Target: One creature that shares a language with you
Effect: You send a mental message of 25 words or fewer to the target. The target can respond in kind as a free action.

Faulty Memory
You spin a web of lies that makes someone doubt his or her own recollection.
Standard Action -- Ranged 10
Target: One creature that shares a language with you
Effect: You make a Bluff check opposed by an Insight check that the target makes as a free action. The target gains a +5 bonus to Insight if the target is unfriendly to the character, or a +10 bonus if the target is hostile. If your check succeeds, you make the target doubt its memory and believe your version of events.

"Right." Cav says to Khaz. "I'm not sure how to handle that myself, and seeing as how the first mate is dead..." He says and turns toward the late Heshala to see Saal rummaging through her pockets. He narrows his eyes and waits for him to stop, glances at the stone, then back at Saal with open disgust on his face.

"If you're finished rummaging for loose change, I'll see she gets a proper burial." Sheathing his rapier he gently picks up the dead Lyrander and carries her out to the open deck. Spotting a sailor he calls out to him, "Here. I don't know what your burial customs are, but she died for the House. Treat her with respect." Handing off the body he glances back at Saal and shakes his head.

"Bren...I think as long as we're in the air we should keep going as far as we can. If the elemental has other ideas...well, we'll burn that bridge when we come to it."

The letters are in code/cypher. Through your deduction (and just plain laziness/incompetence on part of the Lord), you know that you will need to acquire a copy of "The Maritime Adventures of the Feather-Sail Kraken and his 1,001 Conquests" to unlock their secrets.

The Dagger has the word "Fire Starter" engraved on the blade. Its jade and ivory hilt showcases a man, who appears to be lit on fire, bear hugging a Troll. The sheath looks to be made from Soarwood, which makes the dagger feel weightless while sheathed.

Brennen lets out a sigh and drops the chalk to the floor, dusting his hands and rising to his feet. He had only just begun anyway. Why the others are so confident about this elemental with no wheel and no Lyrander heir baffles him. If elementals were so pleasant and easy to control, you wouldn't need a dragonmark to do it. He can hear Vaine and Khaz attempting to communicate with the bound creature, and Saal leaves the Sivis stone behind to continue searching for anything that might help them.

Ok Cav. I'll try and crack the Sivis stone and reach House Lyrander. Maybe if they know what is going on and our approximate location they can send help, or do something. I don't maybe take control of the ship. He reaches for the stone and picks it up, looking back at Cav, But after that I'm creating the portal. It takes time, and I don't intend to fly by the seat of my pants when that bound spirit decides it's had enough fun with us.

Cav watches the fried teleportation circle, waiting to see a pattern. As he spends his time watching, Bren assaults the Elemental with a barrage of attacks. Acting as a team, Cav figures out the pattern and calls to Bren to banish the raging Fire Elemental from whence it came! With a swift flick of his wrist, Bren harnesses his magic and does just that. With a loud crack and more than a few electrical fizzles from the circle, the once mighty Elemental disappears, not with a roar but with a whimper.

You now stand on a floating ship with no obvious means of movement but, on the bright side, the ship is in no danger of falling.

Bren

Bren lets out a sigh of relief as the fiery elemental vanishes through the portal. He can feel the hold his dragonmark had on it fade and then vanish completely as the creature is shunted to another realm of existence. He looks to the others on the ship, Well done everyone. He moves to join Cav near the portal, watching as the destination blinks from one place to another. That was quick thinking to recognize the pattern in the portal. Good job Cav. If you can keep an eye on it, I'll contact Lyrandar and let them know what happened. Holding the speaking stone in his hand again, Bren focuses his mind to send a message through: Fire elemental broke free. Banished it to Fernia. Ship floating, but not moving, between Starpeaks and Silver Wood. Ready to abandon ship. Any further instructions?

A new voice, erudite yet whimsical voice emanates over the stone, "This is Captain Lesh ir'Wynarn. How in the world did you defeat the Elemental?"

A familiar voice bursts out from the pebble, "Sending Ship to tow. Be there, one hour."

Vaine takes a deep breath and moves beside Bren right when the voice over the stone relays the instructions. "Hmm, guess we wait on them to tow us the rest of the way to Stormhome, eh? I don't suppose the air elementals will be next, will they?" With a smirk, he looks around at the damage, hoping the Lyrander Family won't be too upset over the near destruction of their airship.

Bren

Bren runs a hand through his hair, moving it out of his face and cracks a smile at the captain's question. The smile quickly becomes a nervous laugh as the adrenaline wears off. Elementals breaking free of a Lyrandar airship or an Orien rail car were rare, but the stories surrounding those few times where the elementals do break free are never good. Now he had his own story to tell, and somehow he was going to live to tell it. He catches his breath and regains his composure, nodding in agreement with Vaine as the man approaches, Sounds like a plan to me. He opens the link in the Sivis stone again, The same old story captain, skill and luck. Will wait for ship. Should we be concerned over air elementals?

Bren backs up to a wall and slides down to a seated position on the floor, waving at Saal when the man approaches from below deck. We sent the elemental away. It won't be a concern any longer. House Lyrandar is sending a ship here to tow us, but hasn't said anything about the other elementals down below. Have you noticed anything?

An uneventful hour passes by. The ship hovers in the sky, a gentle wind caresses your skin. The sun is setting - from so high up, half the world looks blanketed in night, while the other half appears to be painted by a master artist with stunning mastery of ambers, oranges, pinks and violets.

From the north a large ship races forward, flying at breakneck speeds. The ship is painted in a bright, almost iridescent, blue with golden-colored rose-vine livery. The ship is massive, easily octuple the size of the Kind Cleaver, with no less than five fire elementals bound in increasingly large concentric rings, and what appears to be twelve air elementals holding the dreadnought afloat. The ship slowly comes to a halt next to the Cleaver, as it does, you can read the imposing dreadnought's name emblazoned on the side - The AAS - Barvette.

You quickly recall the fact that the Barvette was the largest Airship ever constructed by Lyrandar and was commissioned by Queen Aurala ir'Wynarn herself to serve as the mobile command center for Audair's Military, not unlike the Breland's Argonth. The rumors of its construction persisted for many years but was always denied by Audair's government.

The Barvette drops anchor and several ornately dressed sailors toss over ropes and chains, with the intent of strapping the two ships together. However, before you can walk over to tie the ropes and chains off, they come alive and do the work for you.

Standing on deck are nearly a hundred soldiers all wearing gold, blue and black dress uniforms.

Ten soldiers then rise up from below deck, on some sort of elevator. Hoisted on their shoulders is a very large, beautiful hand carved wood-and-ivory bridge, which they set down (straddling the two ship's decks) with the care a maid gives to fine china. Eight heavily armed soldiers, clad in silver full plate, then march forward onto the bridge and stand at the ready, spaced equally apart, four to a side.

The elevator descends once more. When it returns, it bears sixteen soldiers carrying an opulent palanquin adorned with birds of prey carved in jade and the finest silks you have ever laid your eyes on. The soldiers walk forward to the bridge and set the palanquin down before it.

A page, wearing a ruffled blue coat with black livery, rushes forward and unfurls a parchment. Ten trumpeters, standing on the quarter deck, sound for attention. The page puffs up his chest and reads, "By virtue of the Nine, I present Her Ladyship Baron Esravash d'Lyrandar, Matriarch of House Lyrandar and Her Majesty, the Queen of Aundair, Aurala ir'Wynarn." As he finishes, trumpets sound off again.

The elevator is once more retracted, when it returns, it bares a full band and choir, who quickly begin to play a rousing tune.

Two women emerge from behind the silken shades - one is dressed in a flowing red gown, her wheat-colored hair parted down the middle and tied off into two pigtails, with two pointed ears poke out from beneath her luxurious hair. On her cheek lies the symbol of House Lyrandar. The other woman is dressed in an equally flowing, but blue, gown. Her radiant blonde hair shimmers in the sunset, while her crown - bearing the the golden crest of Aundair - glistens almost like a mirror. Each wears a golden bracelet, emblazoned with half a sapphire scarab, on opposite arms.

The page looks over to you and blusters, "Her Majesty and her Ladyship await you atop the Bridge of Victory."

Bren

At the sight of the Barvette, Brennen moves to the rail and watches the ship as it approaches, a puzzled look on his face. Almost to himself he says, Strange. The Barvette was commissioned by the queen of Aundair. I wonder what brings it here. Perhaps she released it from service after the war. That seems unlikely though, considering the expense of its construction.

The ship drops anchor off the Kind Cleaver, and the puzzled look on Bren's face becomes confusion at the grand ceremony in which he and the others are being retrieved. When the anthem begins to play, it sounds vaguely familiar. He turns to the others, humming the notes as they sound, Isn't this the---

"By virtue of the Nine, I present Her Ladyship Baron Esravash d'Lyrandar, Matriarch of House Lyrandar and Her Majesty, the Queen of Aundair, Aurala ir'Wynarn."

Brennen's eyes go wide and he stares momentarily at the others. He then turns and catches sight of both women as they ascend to the top of the bridge. He regains his composure momentarily, and then is immediately aware of the condition of the Kind Cleaver. He looks around, as if perhaps it wouldn't look so bad from the Barvette. The page calls out again, "Her Majesty and her Ladyship await you atop the Bridge of Victory."

Brennen runs a hand through his hair, pats the dirt and debris of the last encounter off his uniform, and climbs to the top of the Bridge of Victory. He takes a knee before the queen, Your majesty, and then bows to Esravash, Your ladyship.

Vaine

Vaine is more than surprised to see the Barvette approach. He was impressed with the Cleaver (before being near destroyed), but it's a tugboat compared to the new ship arriving. He is also surprised to see the royalty on the ship and curses himself silently for not preparing himself better. His clothes are stained with tar and ashes and covered in wooden splinters. His earlier attempts to salvage his outfit was for nought.

When the page approaches, he quickly searches his mind for any knowledge he has on proper etiquette. He isn't accustomed to the half-elven protocols, but he's smart enough to figure it out as he goes.

Going on what he knows and can guess, Vaine follows suit and steps onto the bridge and bows respectfully when required, but says nothing, keeping his eyes lowered, but glancing around when he thinks he can get away with it.

Gotta keep the game moving, so this post assumes Cav walks up, takes a knee, bows, and says something charming.

The two stunningly beautiful ladies before acknowledge each of you as you kneel and bow. Queen Aurala takes a step forward, her presence is quite commanding - as you would expect from a Queen. She motions back to the page, alerting him to her desire to have the band play something less robust.

"Warriors, knights, wizards and defenders of the meek. It has come to my attention that the five of you, without thought of harm or death, nobly took up arms against the enemies of Audair and saw them driven before you. It has further come to my attention that a Fire Elemental - a most dangerous creature - broke free from his shackles and, without sympathy for the vile creature, banished it from this plane before it could descend upon my Kingdom and bring ruin upon the helpless. It is with this in mind that I, Queen Aurala ir'Wynarn am," the Page rushes up, stumbling a bit on the steps of the bridge, bearing a pillow with five, golden, seven-pointed star medals, "awarding each of you the Royal Star of Wrogar, for your bravery in the face of adversity, your determination to safe guard lives and your love of your fellow man."

Aurala then pins a medal, in turn, on each of your chests. Strangely enough, there is no pin, rather some sort of adhesive used to stick them your what ever clothing or armor you happen to be wearing. As she passes from person to person, she takes note of Vaine's knowledge of formal Aundarian procedure, flashing him a satisfying grin. As she pins the last medal on Bren, the captain of the guard, a rotund, one eyed Warforged stomps his foot onto the ground, with force you would assume would shatter a man's spine. The entire assembled group of soldiers and sailors begin to clap and cheer.

After a few minutes, the Warforged stomps the deck once more and the assembled soldiers, marines and sailors disperse, back to their normal duties you presume.

Baron Esravash smiles as she says, "Now that the formalities have been completed, I do so hope you will join Her Majesty and I in Royal library, there is much to discuss." The two women turn around and begin walking towards the quarter deck of the Barvette, the page and Warforged guard close in tow.

You are lead inside the ornately decorated fourier leading to the Queen's private library. As the Queen enters, a footman holds the door open for both her and her guests, while another announces their entry. The library is twenty feet wide by nearly fifty feet long. Each wall is filled with books, old and new, of all shapes, sizes and colors. Ten wooden desks, spaced evenly apart in two rows, line the center of the room. Several scholarly types, including an elderly Gnome and three young humans appear to be busy at work researching.

The queen motions for everyone, save her guests and servants to leave. The two footmen from before, as well as four maids enter the library and push the desks out of the way. The Warforged guard picks up a rather large golden throne, mounted on an obsidian pedestal (with the ease of which a human picks up a piece of paper) from the far corner. He plops the throne down at the end of the library. Two of the footmen left, what appears to be a very heavy (though smaller) throne and set it beside the first. The maids bring in three dark wood side tables and five dark wood chairs. Aurala and Esravash take a seat on their respective thrones and motion for you to take a seat as well.

Esravash says, "I pray thee well after such a trying experience. You simply must try this exquisite tea one of my Captains managed to acquire from the enchanted land of the Aerenal." A maid enters the room carrying a tray with seven cups, while a second brings a kettle.

As the tea is being poured, Aurala continues where her companion left off, "Yes, I simply must agree - this tea is immaculate. Do you agree Lady Khazomiel? And you Lord Bren?"

The page, who stands with his chest puffed up, gives the barest hint of a cough.

Aurala looks to him for a moment before beginning again, "I must apologize for my page. Duty is in his blood, he thinks of nothing save for work. Never any time for the pleasantries or life's little wonders."

The Page bursts out, "I live to serve Your Majesty. If I were negligent, then I would not be worthy of staying in your service."

Aurala gives a canned, aristocratic chuckle, "Indeed Mr. Carson, indeed. Now, shall we begin?"

Esravash takes a sip of her tea before saying, "You five have performed admirably in very trying circumstances. Earlier Lady Khazomiel mentioned dastardly folk who abducted the representatives of the Regalport Alliance. Let me say that, had you not been on the Kind Cleaver..." She quivers for a moment, "I perish to think the ignorance in which we, Her Majesty and I, would have been left had you not taken up arms and defended the ship."

Aurala sighs with frustration, "We know who attacked the ship - it was none other than Krannath's elite assassins: the Red Wolves."

Khaz keeps her body rigid and expressionless as the Queen awards her the medal, only the very tip of her tail flicking back and forth in agitation. It's an honor, and she'll keep and treasure it, but it's also coming off as soon as the audience is over and she has a discrete moment.

Back in the library, she takes a polite sip, and nods her head with a noncommittal the-tea-is-lovely-and-you-are-very-generous noise. "If you need someone to corroborate that, we took some prisoners during the fight- and I assumed that someone else had the first right to question them. I doubt they'd be very helpful with regards to getting the delegates back, though."

Cav

Normally I don't mind a little royal attention, but that was almost a little too fast. Cav glances down at the medal on his chest as he follows them into the tea room. Accepting a cup, he drinks it slowly, listening to the Queen's remarks.

"Well your Majesty, if these are the Elite of Krannath then I don't think we've much to fear about the rest of them." He says with a nod towards his compatriots. He pauses a for moment and then glances about. "Though they did arrive by teleportation...I assume this room is warded against such?"

Vaine

Vaine had never been rewarded for his efforts in the past. Not that he hadn't deserved recognition for his deeds (some actually quite heroic). Rather, he would disappear before the actual recognition could take place. Being known to others was something he ardently avoided. He always wanted to share in his just rewards, but he was always too afraid of the spotlight drawing the attention of the enemies of his past.

This ceremony made up for all that, and then some. He was flustered and appalled at the level of respect he was shown as the announcement was made and the pin was placed on his stained shirt. He actually expected the opposite reaction given that on their watch, the delegates were abducted, the ship's fire elemental escaped and the airship itself was almost half destroyed.

As instructed, Vaine sat down at the table and sipped politely from the tea cup. Wow, he thought, that is some great tea! He then listened to the discussion before adding his own comments. "Karrnath is being quite bold now, aren't they? Given their desire to align with Q'Barra, this seemed the most appropriate response from them. Mind you, I'm not approving of this attack, only conceding that, though foolish as it was, they may have felt like there was no choice. At least this shows that they are concerned about the Alliance."

After speaking, he casually lifts his tea cup, hoping to receive more.

As Khaz mentions prisoners, the one-eyed Warforged grasps the hilt of his full blade and allows his metallic fingers to audibly clank against the hilt, signalling his impatience with the tea party and his desire for action. He growls softly to himself. Aurala holds up a hand to calm her bodyguard.

Bren

Bren stands proud and erect alongside the others, waiting for the pin to be placed. He accepts the honor graciously, and bows his head in thanks to the queen.

He marvels at the insides of the Barvette while he and the others make their way to the Royal Library. He chances a whisper to those beside him, Truly no expense was spared in the construction of this vessel. It is a wonder that with everything that went into it, and all the peoples involved, Aundair and Lyrandar were able to keep it secret.

Entering the Library, Brennen waits to the side as the gnome and young men exit and the furniture is brought in. Once the setting is prepared, he pulls out a seat for Khaz before sitting himself.

The Queen Aurala inquires about the tea, and Brennen is about to answer her but for the page's slight cough indicating they should move the conversation along. Brennen's eyebrows rise as if he did something wrong, but the queen explains away her page's actions. The Orien heir visibly relaxes before taking another sip of the tea and smiling. Esravash and Aurala then begin the proceedings.

You do us a kindness with your words Lady Esravash, and I am, as I am sure my compatriots are as well, honored to receive the Royal Star of Wrogar Your Majesty. But before too much is made of our actions, let me be the first to say that it was in defense of myself as much as anything else in which I acted. It is my regret that the kidnappers acted too quickly and without warning for me or anyone else to do anything for the delegates, he pauses, his brow creased with memories of the battle. The assassins that stayed behind gave us little choice but to take up arms I'm afraid. He shakes the thoughts clear and takes another sip of tea. Does anyone have an idea of who they were? The wolf crest seems vaguely familiar but nothing comes to mind.

Aurala sighs with frustration, "We know who attacked the ship - it was none other than Krannath's elite assassins: the Red Wolves."

Brennen nods in understanding. Well that does make sense then doesn't it. King Sebastes is surrounded by his enemies and the Endworld Mountains. A few troops from Riedra and food from Breland will not be of much help against the four nations that make up this Regalport Alliance. At this point, Karrnath is Qbarra's only real ally on this side of the mountains, and has already sent twice the number of soldiers to aid the King as Riedra has. Now they have gone for the throat by attacking the delegates themselves. A bold play, if I may.

Up until now, Aundair has stayed out of these affairs. Without more information, I must ask. If Aundair was meeting with delegates of the Regalport Alliance, is it possible that Qbarra and Karrnath were made aware, and they made this strike to prevent Aundair from joining the ranks of their enemies?

Queen Aurala's eyebrows raise as Cav is speaking, before flashing a kind smile, "Quite, quite. This ship is the most advanced ever fielded, no one can transport onto or off of without my, her Ladyship's or the Commodore's order."

Lady Esravash nods her head in affirmation with Vaine, "Yes, quite bold. Some would even go so far as to call their actions imperiously bold. I fear their attack is, most assuredly, Karnnath's way of declaring de-facto war on the Alliance." She pauses for a moment and gives the barest hint of a laugh, "I do so hope Lord Gunner Fate is alright. Whatever shall he do in the custody of those stogy assassins?"

Esravash then turns and listens to Bren, "Yes, you were indeed stupendously successful. Why I don't know if my elite Marines could have dispatched the Red Wolves so easily or efficiently. You are," She pauses to look at each of you, "All five of you are most definitely, worthy of the accommodation Her Majesty has bestowed on you."

Setting her tea cup down on a side table, Aurala speaks once more, "Indeed. My agents have already found the mangled corpses of two of the assassins. Chucking them off the side of a flying ship," Aurala chuckles, "A most effective means of dispatching one's enemies." As she utters the last sentence, she gives a wink to Khaz.

Bren then displays his knowledge of the war. As he does, the two women grow more somber. Aurala is first to speak, "Yes. War is upon the continent and there is little any of us can do to stop it. I fear, the only way to see this end quickly is to throw Aundair's lot in with one side or the other. Sadly, I do not want war..." She sighs, "But war has come to the very heart of my Kingdom. We had intended to be neutral but now..."

The Page pipes up, "But now we must side with the Alliance, lest we give Karrnath free reign to pillage our lan..."

Aurala shoots her page a chilling look - he quickly stands at the ready by her side, lips tightly closed.

"Yes but now we have been forced to take sides. Fortuitously, the Karns did not attack an Aundarian craft but rather a ship of Lyrandar. Not only that but they attacked an ambassadorial ship flying the flag of peace. They have broken the Code of Galifar and every civilized nation's accords with the Dragonmarked Houses. Their treachery goes beyond the pale."

Esravash takes a sip of her tea, "Indeed. Karrnath has violated their agreements with the Dragonmarked Houses. As we speak the leaders of all 13 Houses are convening in Fairhaven to mete out punishment for this," her clenched fist shakes, "Atrocity."

To Cav:
The Royal Star of Wrogar is the highest civilian accommodation in Audair. The medal is named in honor of Wrogar, the first King of Aundair. The medal is awarded to those who defend the weak and the unable at great personal risk. Since its inception, the medal has been given mostly to merchants, who took up arms against brigands during the Last War (most especially in the Scion's Sound). One of the most famous recipients was none other than Lord Gunner Fate, who fought and defeated an Archon summoned by a radical Cleric of the Silver Flame, who sought to destroy an orphanage for war orphans in Thaliost's port district.

While Vaine can fake diplomatic exchanges, these two matriarchs are indeed masters of it. Every tone and inflection in their voice leads any listener to think exactly what they want them to think. No psionic or magical intrusions into their listeners' minds, only perfect word and tone usage. He almost lost track of the content of the discussion while being enthralled at these two majestic women. They weilded words like an expert swordsman wielded his sword; or an arch-wizard would wield his magical arsenal.

Bren

Brennen simply nods at the request, as if he had expected it. In truth, he had. If the Queen and Lady Esravash had wanted simply to thank and honor Brennen and the others for their efforts on the Kind Cleaver, the ceremony earlier would have been enough, and likely it would have been conducted at the enclave itself.

Instead, the Queen and Lady came to meet them here, the battle and its consequences still fresh. And inviting them to the library; there is no need to include Brennen and the others in a discussion of war unless they were to be involved further.

The suspicion that the Red Wolves would attack the meeting of the Houses is startling though. He clears his throat, You have the use of my blade and mark, Lady Esravash. He looks to the Queen, who is still standing at the window gazing into the darkness. Brennen returns his gaze to Lady Esravash, I will need to brief my House on what occurred on the Cleaver. And I will have to clear your request, though I do not foresee any problems. All the Houses are vested at this point. A thought occurs to him and Brennen thinks aloud, What would drive King Kaius to move against a House? He must have known what the consequences would be.

Vaine expected the request to come, only not so soon. Normal protocol would've required the matriarchs to draw this into a much longer conversation to bring the participants into a place where they couldn't have said 'no'. While it's doubtful that they slipped up, they are probably pretty desperate or perhaps they are comfortable enough in this environment to drop the carefully-crafted social game that is normally played.

Nonetheless, he accepted the original invite and planned on helping out anyways. With a polite nod and bow to each of the ladies (in the order they were announced earlier), he says, "I will accept the offer and lend my assistance as well. I have neither blade nor mark to bring, though I dare say that my talents are not unknown to either of you."

Esravash smiles, "You are too kind. Of course you may feel free to refuse. We have an Airyacht aboard I would kindly loan you, which could take you anywhere you desire, from Stormhome to Stormreach, Valshar'ak to Port Krez. I only ask this favor of you because you have proven so gallant and noble in the past. I do not expect you to jump at the opportunity, at least not in the manner you have. To some extent I feel I may have cornered you and forced the answer I desire out of you. I will not speak of it further until the morning, when you are safely aboard The Infamous Coachman."

The Page, who had been standing at attention with his chest puffed out, deflates as he says, "I will... Escort them to their quarters... Milady... Her Majesty allowing..."

Aurala waves her hand, still staring out into the star filled night.

The page nods and leads you out of the library. He takes through a maze of hallways and corridors, as well as a few flights of stairs. You arrive in a very elegant hallway, lined with bronze and marble sculptures as well as ornate crown molding. He opens a door on your left and ushers you inside. The room is roughly twenty feet by twenty feet, complete with several blue and black sofas and chairs as well as several dark wood coffee tables. At the back of the room lies a large window, through which you can see the last sliver of the sun slowly dip beyond the horizon. Three doors line each side of the room, one of the doors is half open, you can see it is a small, private bed chamber, complete with an average sized bed and a nightstand.

"I shall bid you adieu. If you are famished or thirsty, do not hesitate to pull this," the page pulls on a large silken rope near the exit, "To call for room service." The Page then leaves the room, gently closing the door behind him.

Bren

Bren shakes his head at the idea of refusing, I suspect that had I not been involved here, the Baron would have called on me to go to Fairhaven for much the same reasons in any case. And while I am on topic of the Baron, is there a Speaking Stone of use on board the ship? My missive may wait until tomorrow but I would like to send word to him before we depart for Fairhaven.

Cav

Things are moving fast. Cav waits until they're alone in the hallway to speak up. "So...who else is feeling we might be in a little over our heads?" Vaine nods to Cav. "Unfortunately, war is never simple, though I hope our part in it will be. I share your concerns, but for different reasons. I understand how our actions may elicit a favorable response from the House Lyrander and Aundair, though I don't think it was of the magnitude that required the presence of two major matriarchs and a hastily-assembled ceremony. Follow that up with the request for help that was almost blurted out and I fear that we may certainly be over our heads. The assassins may be the least of our concerns."

"So I am not the only one that felt the whole ceremony was a bit conspicuous then? Good." Cav says with a frown. "Unfortunately it seems we are not in a position to negotiate, and though the world will be no poorer with fewer assassins, it bothers me to find myself as someone elses blade."

Bren

Brennen sends word to Baron Kwanti as soon as he gets settled into the guest quarters. He explains the attack on the Kind Cleaver and his part to play in the battle. He ends the message letting the Baron know that he will be in Fairhaven at Lady Esravash's request and he will make contact there with the House at his earliest convenience.

He then joins the others in conversation, We should remember that we had already been requested by the Matriarch before the attack. I know Khazomiel personally and have heard of Cav by reputation. Against their merits and my own, I can make a guess as to the kind of skill and character possessed by Vaine and Saal. I think it likely that Her Majesty and the Lady required our talents, and this unexpected attack has had an effect on their intentions.

He smiles at the group, If it feels like we are in over our heads, it is because we are. I think not a one of us expected to be in this position this evening, but I suspect that is true for Queen Aurala and Lady Esravash as well.

It is strange though to think how things turn out. I have a duty to my House, but had I the freedom to choose my battles I daresay I would have sided with Qbarra. I think it no mere coincidence that the members of the Regalport Alliance are all nascent nations, eager now to invade their neighbor as they were to take advantage of the Last War and declare their sovereignty. I see no right they can claim over the mines, and agree with the actions taken by the King Sebastes. He chuckles, But now I find myself fighting Qbarra's staunchest ally.

The Five Nations should have come together and condemned the alliance and the invasion. Which is why the actions taken by Karrnath today perplex me. Kaius has forced the Queen's hand.

He shakes his head and leans back into his seat. Turning to Khaz he asks, What do you think Thrane will make of all this?

Fishy
2012-01-14, 09:12 AM
Khaz has only one request for the page- "I assume these medals come with some sort of box? I would hate for this to be damaged..."

At Brennen's question, Khaz takes a deep breath, then looks over both shoulders, to make sure they're alone. "You understand that I knew people who were on the Western Front, and were killed in battle with the Knights Arcane. And that some of those Knights, 'for their bravery in the face of adversity', were awarded these."

"Obviously, we're living in a different time. And obviously, no one wants war. But if Karrnath and Aundair ever find a way to quietly and peacefully annihilate each other, several of my countrymen will eat stuffed thrakels and watch."

"I'm with Master Archer. If we had been asked to take up arms to defend Aundair from Karrnath, I would have-" she pauses, long enough to let her tail flick twice. "Politely declined."

"But... That's not what we've been asked to do. We've been asked to hunt down a group of monsters, who were willing to kill innocent people to get their way."

Bren

Brennen groans inwardly at his aloofness. He had been with Khaz through several tough battles, and had been with her when she lost some that were close to her. He had even allowed himself to grieve for some he had come to know during his missions in Thrane. But the truth for many Dragonmarked Heirs is that the duties of the House often impose a certain style of detachment to the realities faced by others. Everything that happened during the Last War was seen through the lens of a potential opportunity for Orien.

Even now, he views his current predicament in much the same way Saal does, as a fortunate opportunity. But even Brennen is not as single-minded as some of his peers in the Houses. Despite what war has to offer for all of the Dragonmarked Houses, he would never wish for it, or be happy that it has come.

He gives Khaz a sympathetic look and says quietly, None would blame you Khazomiel. But I do agree with you that there is a certain nobility in what we have been asked to do. And to that we can look forward to.

The grim conversation continues for a time before you all decide it best to bed down for the night. It feels as if your head just hit the pillow before, quite suddenly, a large clatter can be heard from the main room of the guest quarters. You peek out the door and see no less than seven footmen and four maids moving furniture, bringing in a dining table and laying out plates, silverware, etc. Several other maids and butlers enter the room and help each of you tidy up and dress. Breakfast is a sumptuous affair with muffins, caviar, scrambled hippogriff eggs, clawfoot bacon, owlbear eggy toast and tangerine juice. The footmen wait on you hand and foot, bringing seconds upon request.

Towards the end of the meal, a newspaper is given to each of you - the headline of which is quite shocking, nay unbelievable.

Vaine

Vaine reads the article then looks at Cav after he read it as well. Grinning he says, "seems we have something of a prophet in our midst, though I think the term 'complicated' no longer captures the full depth of insanity that we're seeing now." His attempt at levity may be ill-timed, but it was for himself more than for anyone else. Simply hunting down some assassins seemed like a great opportunity to divest himself of his ever-growing presence in the political aspects of this war.

Despite being on the run from the Thousand Eyes for several years, Vaine had never craved anonimity more than he has right now.

Bren

The morning news hits Brennen like a punch to the gut, and the Orien heir can't finish his meal as he reads and rereads the article, tying to absorb every fact and detail. At the sound of Vaine's voice Brennen briefly glances up at the man but quickly lowers his head and continues reading.

Eyes still on the newspaper, he walks to the silken rope and pulls it once to summon an aide. Baron Kwanti is likely too busy at this moment to send word, but it is possible he has orders or information for Brennen in light of this development and has sent a message through the House. When the aide arrives Brennen asks if any messages have arrived for him.

Each note is rolled up into a tight cylinder and addressed to Bren. Each is written in standard Orien Code, it takes you mere minutes to crack the code and read each note.

Note 1 to Bren:
No time for pleasantries. The bastard killed fifteen of our kin in Korth, twelve in Karrlakton, ten in Vedykar, five in Atur... They've enslaved over a hundred of our brothers and sisters, forcing them to operate the Lighting Rail...

Note 2 to Bren: You are charged with being my liaison to House Lyrandar and Aundair. You are to help them in any way you can, so long as that help does not go against our House.

Note 3 to Bren: Kaius has kidnapped my illegitimate son, Mathar. I'm sure you met him at one of the festival parties last year. If you receive any information about him, please forward it to me immediately.

The Post Master, a burly, rugged looking Human with a long scraggly beard and a peg leg, enters the room bearing two packages and several letters. He takes a look of each of you and asks, in an unsurprisingly deep, gruff voice, "The Queen spent a small fortune gathering up yer mail from across the continent and bringing it here to the ship. Much of it was delievered overnight via Teleportation magic. Ye, should thank the Queen fer her kindness. Now, which one of you is Saal, Khazomiel Ravadanci, Cavolinus Brightson Archer and Vaine?" He sneers towards Bren, "Would have had a few letters fer Mr. d'Orien but someone spoiled my fun."

For Khazomiel: The envelope of your letter is colored blue and has the symbol of the Silver Flame embossed on the back.

Dear Khazomiel,

I hope this letter finds you well. I have been informed by friends of Thrane within Aundair that you are aboard the Barvette. Your actions aboard the Kind Cleaver were not only noble and praise worthy but also just and kind. The medal you received was a notable accomplishment, given the history between our two nations.

I write to you because I fear events are spiraling out of control quite quickly. I must confess, I do not have a pair of eyes nor ears close to the Queen. I very much would like you to ensure Thrane's interests are expressed to the Queen. If I may, I would like to ask that you help guide events towards a peaceful resolution. Aurala can be quite stubborn and I do not expect you to make any head way, most especially if you mention myself or Thrane.

I will pray to the Flame for your protection.

Sincerely,

--- Jaela Daran

To Cav: A plain envelope is given to you, written by a familiar hand.

Dearest Cav,

I saw a picture of you in the night printing of the Sharn Inquirer. The description of your heroics was quite exhilarating. I hope you are well and don't do anything too foolish. However, knowing you, you will do what you feel is best - regardless of the risk.

I wanted you to know that I am thinking of you and hope no harm comes to you.

Your friend,

Lady Aribella

To Saal:
You are given a small rectangular box, with no return address listed. The hand writing of the box is unknown to you. When you open the box, you find a very small dagger with a plain purple hilt and a jagged, very short, serrated blade. Oddly enough, there is a small trigger at the top of the hilt. You immediately recognize the fact that the blade has been dipped into magical poison. A note found inside the box merely reads "Saw you in the paper. Nobility have a way of making intrigue - it is best to protect yourself. Please use the Dart Dagger to its fullest potential."

The Weapon is a +4 Dagger laced with an unknown poison. The Trigger activates a small gun-like mechanism that can fire off the blade at an enemy up to 4 squares away.

To Vaine:You receive a small black box, wrapped with a red and a white ribbon. Inside you find a glass eye.

The message is clear - someone knows who you are and is watching you.

If he completes this mission, House Lyrander and Aundair would be powerful allies to be a buffer to keep his former organization at bay. Suddenly, being in the political center of a brewing war is no longer as bad as it once sounded.

Coughing, he asks the Post Master while showing him the box, "kind sir, is there any way you can tell where this was sent from?"

Following Breakfast, the page from yesterday enters the guest quarters and announces, "Her majesty the Queen and her Ladyship request your presence at the Port Side Hatch." He allows you a half hour to gather your things and make yourselves ready.

The Page returns and escorts you through the maze-like corridors of the ship. The Port Side Hatch is a large circular doorway seemingly at odds with your known locations (i.e. well below deck). The Queen, the Baron and the Queen's Warforged Guard are there to meet you.

"Good morning, gentlemen and lady. We, Her Majesty and I, wanted to see you off on the The Infamous Coachman. She's a fast and agile ship that I personally commissioned some years ago. I want the five of you to use the ship as your own, call it recompense for your valiant defense of the Kind Cleaver and her crew."

Esravash looks to her companion, the Queen for a moment before pressing on. "There is that other matter that we discussed yesterday. You must excuse my boldness in asking but... The world stands on a knife's edge and to see war averted, or at the very least ended quickly, the world will need brave and gallant knights - like yourselves - to see such a dream come to fruition. I have a sending stone that will connect you with Provost Draco ir'Povijest. He is the head of the College of History at the University of Wynarn, which is where the various representatives and leaders of the Dragonmarked Houses will be assembling. You can inform him of your decision to aid or not aid the defense of the meeting. If you choose to walk away, then please feel free to take the Infamous Coachman where ever strikes your fancy." She holds up her finger, close to her mouth, signalling you to not speak, "I was impolite yesterday and I will not compound that error further. Take the stone and do as your heart commands."
[/COLOR]

Aurala then flips a near by switch and the doors magically open. Before you is a short bridge crossing out into the wide open sky. On the other side of the bridge lies a very small red and gold airship. It appears to have three decks - Below Deck, the Main Deck and a Quarter Deck. The ship is roughly 30 feet long by 15 feet wide. The crew of ten sailors stands at the ready, welcoming you aboard.

The moment all five of you cross the bridge, Queen Aurala calls out, "Be safe and may the Nine bless your journey. Both she and the Baron wave goodbye before the Warforged reaches over and forcibly closes the doors.

The Infamous Coachmen's crew appears to be in tip top shape, as would be expected. Their uniforms all bear the mark of House Lyrandar over their wearer's hearts. A tall, ugly, long bearded man with a peg leg stands a top the quarterdeck, manning the wheel. You instantly recognize him as the Post Master from the Barvette!

He looks down and smiles, "Aye, ye not be thinkin' o' me as Capn' of this here boat but, yar, when the Baron asked me ta take charge, I couldn't help but say yes. She be quite the looker. If I be a wee bit younger and far more handsome, I may have been given the honor of bein' her concubine!" His new affectation is quite surprising, he sounds like a verifiable pirate, rather than the gruff old man.

He then stares down at his crew, "Whachyall be doin' down there? This be a ship an' we must be settin' sail!"

The crew immediately scatters off to their designated posts. The Coachman breaks anchor and strikes off on its own. The Barvette slowly flies off into the distance, picking up speed as she goes. Given your trajectory, you can only presume the dreadnought is headed to Stormhome.

The Captain looks down at you once more, "So lads and lass, where we be headin' to?"

Bren

Three messages is more than Brennen had expected, but he reluctantly accepts them from the footman, thanking the man and handing him the newspaper from earlier in the morning now that he was finished with it. My gratitude to you and the Mail Master.

Taking a seat in an armchair, Brennen opens the first letter. Reading the Orien code is almost as easy as reading the Common tongue to one familiar with it, and Brennen has the brief letter deciphered in no time. He stares at it for moments after reading the contents, a blank look on his face. Then anger flashes there and his hand clenches into a fist, crumpling the message. Bracing himself, he opens the second letter. Reading it, he nods to himself as if in understanding, and opens the final message. A contemplative look turns to one of resolution after reading the third letter. Brennen tucks the letters away and stays seated, thinking quietly to himself.

----------------------------------------------------

The page rouses Brennen from his thinking, and he moves to his guest chamber and packs his things.

When they are presented with the Infamous Coachman, he tries to thank the Queen and the Baron but Lady Esravash does not give him the opportunity. He wants to tell her that she has his full cooperation, but she insists no one speak and then bids them fairwell.

Still feeling quite the fool for being sympathetic to Karrnath, and feeling conflicted about his current mission and the desire to aid his brothers and sisters, Brennen boards the Infamous Coachmen with only a nod to the captain and crew waiting aboard for them.

When the captain asks for their destinations, he looks to the others and says, My destination is Fairhaven. I am heading to the University of Wynarn.

Vaine

Gatherhold. Vaine had only spent a couple of days there a few years back and had no dealings with the halflings of the Talenta Plains, so he found it unusual to have a package from there. Probably sent from there to throw off any trail, which didn't matter to Vaine. He wasn't in any hurry to track down who sent it. They would seek after him soon enough.

Vaine followed along silently with the rest until they were aboard The Infamous Coachman. At first, when Lady Esravash said that she made an 'error', he seriously doubted it. A master swordsman rarely makes mistakes, and only then when faced off against a highly skilled opponent. Likewise, he was suspicious that she would make a conversational error (words being her weapon of choice) with a group such as this that was no match for her in a game of words. Perhaps this war and the recent events have left her at a disadvantage, he thought, and she is truly making some mistakes. Grinning to himself, he thought, and perhaps she wants to leave us wondering about her true level of wordmanship.

Vaine was still grinning to himself when the captain asked for the destination. He almost laughed when he realized that he had no idea where to look for these assassins. Bren's choice was fine with him, so he nodded to the human and said, "I'm willing to travel with you, but I forgive me for asking, but is this related to the Red Wolves?"

The Captain smiles and he yells, "Baton down the hatches! Light the skies on fire! And set sail for FAIRHAVEN!"

The journey to the city is quite uneventful, save for watching one of the younger sailors chase a dire rat around the main deck in an attempt to capture the beast.

The City is immaculate, even from high up in the sky. The white spires of Fairhold tower over the surrounding metropolis. As you peer over the edge of the ship, you can see throngs of people in the streets. Based on the map of the city, you believe people are storming the banks within the Chequer’s Ward. Why such a large number of people would be doing this, is anyone's guess.

After circling the city a few times, the ship slowly descends towards the half-completed Airship tower in Whiteroof Ward. The tower is bare at the moment, with little of the facade having been completed past the first story. The wood and metal frame is left exposed.

"Aye, they be puttin us down 'ere so we drop you lot off as quickly as possible."

As you near the tower, you spot over 30 people fighting - with swords, daggers, crowwbows, slings and magic. Some appear to be Fairhaven City Guards, others pirates and still others look like hideous man-rats. You also spot a hulking Ogre brandishing a very large Greatclub and a Weretiger with sharp fangs and deadly claws. One of the Leather armor wearing Guards calls out, "Help us! The Saverne gangsters and Morak’s Crew are fighting one another! We're outnumbered! Please Help!"

As he finishes his plea a large blast of acid races across the tower and strikes the ship, melting a huge gash in the side of the ship.

"The ship best depart quickly, I don't know how many more o' them shots we can suffer! Quickly boys, fetch the Spring Plank and let our glorious passengers do what they do best - fight! Or ye would rather let those near helpless guards die at the hands of those ruthless scoundrels and scallywags...?"

Several sailor lug up a metal plank and set it on the edge of the ship.

"Jump on that there plank and watch as ye be launched over to the tower!"

Bren

Bren stands over the rail and spends most of the time to Fairhaven enjoying the view and letting the wind cut through his hair. Eventually, he breaks off and mingles with the others and the crew of the ship, engaging in small talk.

The view of the city is incredible as they approach, and Bren can't help but marvel at the things made possible by his rivals in House Lyrandar. But even as he gazes down at the city, something seems off.

What are they doing? he calls to one of the deckhands, referring to the throng of people amassed below. But before the man can answer, the faint sounds of battle reach Brennen's ears as the ship wheels around to descend on the roof of a half-completed Airship tower.

Bren runs to the side of the ship facing the tower and exclaims, By the three! Near the top of the tower, on one of the unfinished floors exposed to the open air around them, a pitched battle is taking place. One of the guards yells to them, pleading for their help. Brennen points to him and yells to the captain, Can you get us there? They need our help! A gout of acid splashes across the side of the ship, but the captain orders his men to bring a plank.

When given the order to jump off the plank, Brennen gives the captain an incredulous look. He is tempted to simply teleport into the battle, but because of the precarious terrain and the height, Brennen decides not to call on his powers just yet. Combat is chaotic and anything could happen. He may need his strongest abilities to save himself or someone else from a deadly fall. He claps the captain on the back as he makes his way to the plank, Thank you, and drawing his sword and gripping his shield, he runs on the plank and leaps off the edge.

The power of the plank propels Brennen through the air, and what may have started as a startled yell ends in a battle cry as he lands among the guards and gangsters.

Cav

"Now this is the way to travel." Cav says while leaning on the rail of the airship. "You people always have the best ways to get around." Cav smiles and then turns back to the city below. "...and it seems like we'll be arriving none too soon."

As the Captain motions towards the plank Cav grins and walks over, drawing his rapier. "This isn't the first time I've walked the plank, but certainly never like this!" He stops on the plank and turns to salute the Captain with his sword and then takes a single step back, dropping off.

Landing in a roll besides one of the guards he springs up and tries to skewer a pirate with his blade. "Don't worry!" He shouts to the bewildered guard. "We're professionals."

Bren

Cav drops down and opens up the pirate's defenses with an unconventional attack. The pirate counters, but in doing so leaves himself open to Brennen. The swiftblade vanishes only to reappear behind the pirate, flanking him with Cav. Brennen slashes at the Morak gangster twice in the back, pivoting on his foot to stab out from behind his shield at the Saverne thief beside him, catching the thief unaware and in the throat, ending his life.

Vaine watches the city pass below him. It was a sight he'd never seen before and was fascinated at the view. His fascination turned to aggravation at the sight of battle. With his orb in hand, he focuses his mind on a group of them, wanting to aid the nearby guards.

Everyone lunges forward to begin their assault. After a savage series of attacks, the Pirate wearily stands shifting constantly, trying to predict who will attack first.

The Pirate decides it best to lunge for Bren with his rapier. He aims low and strikes the ground, breaking off the tip of his thin blade.

Khaz has difficulty with the spring board and only just manages to land on the building.

The battle ensues around you, though no one dies.

Bren

Bren sidesteps the lousy strike and glances back. The battle is pitched, but the guards are holding their own. Brennen stabs the pirate a third time and then turns to the group, I'm going to help the others! He teleports further into the structure, cutting down two more of the Morak gang. He hears the roar of the weretiger and decides to try and help the guards there as much as he can before engaging his intended target. He raises his hand towards the melee and draws on the power of his Dragonmark. The guardsmen around the weretiger and gangsters can feel a strange energy between them, a sort of pulling force, but Brennen is not turning his power against them. Two more of the Morak gang fall to the Orien swiftblade as he teleports them over the edge. The weretiger resists the spacial energies, as does the wily thief that had been fighting the two men Brennen just sent over the wall. He curses their force of will and vanishes again, reappearing adjacent to the ogre and engaging it in combat.

Saving Throw for the Weretiger.

NOTE:

Destination Space: The destination of the teleportation must be an unoccupied space that is at least the same size as the target. For instance, a Large creature cannot be teleported into a space that is only 1 square wide.
If arriving in the destination space would cause the target to fall or if that space is hindering terrain, the target can immediately make a saving throw. On a save, the teleportation is negated. Otherwise, the target arrives in the destination space.
If a prone creature teleports, it arrives in the destination space still prone.

A result of 10 or higher negates the teleportation.

Vaine

Vaine surveys the scene before him, crystal orb in hand. The ogre and weretiger appear to be the greatest threats at the moment, so he chooses the weretiger as his next target. This time, he sends a mental missive toward the creature, trying to get its attention and drop its defenses if only for a moment before unleashing another wave of sickly green mental energy at the lycanthrope and its nearest allies. At the same time, he conjures a mental projection of himself nearby to assist one of the guards.

Minor Action:
Expend Send Thoughts to use Changeling Trick on Weretiger -
Bluff: [roll0] vs. Weretiger's passive Insight. If successful, then Vaine gains CA against Weretiger until end of his next turn.

Standard Action:
Dishearten (Augment 2) - burst 1 centered on L6 (targetting Weretiger, Thug 7, Thug 8, Thief 8)

...Attack Morak Thug 7: [roll2] vs. Will (23)
...Attack Morak Thug 8: [roll3] vs. Will (23)
...Attack Saverne Thief 8: [roll4] vs. Will (25)
...Hit: [roll5] and target takes -6 to attacks until the end of Vaine's next turn

Free Action:
Manifest Dream Form (conjuration) in square I13 (to flank Morak Shooter 1 with the guard)
Effect: You conjure your dream form in an unoccupied square in the burst. It lasts until you fall unconscious, until you dismiss it as a minor action, or until you use this power again. Your dream form occupies its square, and you and your allies can move through it. When you take a move action, you can also move your dream form a number of squares equal to your speed. You can see and hear as if you were in your dream form’s square, and you can use powers as if you were there. Your dream form can flank with your allies, and you gain combat advantage against any target your dream form is flanking. Your dream form can be attacked, although it lacks hit points. If it takes any damage, it disappears. It is immune to your attacks.
Vaine's attacks are once again successful and the weretiger's allies fall around him while he is visibly disheartened and less willing to fight.

Summary:
Weretiger: 21 psychic damage, takes -6 to attacks until the end of Vaine's next turn, and grants CA to Vaine until the end of Vaine's next turn (IF Bluff check was successful)
Morak Thugs 7 & 8 and Saverne Thief 8 are all dead
Dream Form is occupying I13 and flanking Morak Shooter 1 with Guard Axeman

Sizing up the battlefield Cav spots the mage protected by a group of pirates and thugs. "Leave him to me!" Cav shouts and then jukes around the pirate in front of him. "Pardon me!" He says to the guard as he dashes around him. As he maneuvers towards the mage he slaps his bandolier and a small blue stone pops out. Slicing it in the air with the edge of his rapier, blue lightning shoots across the length of the blade. Sliding to a stop he lunges forward, arm back, wrist straight as he tries to plunge his rapier into the pirates right eye.

The furious battle continues onward. Bren

Just as Brennen reaches the ogre, the massive creature lashes out, striking guards and thugs alike with it's giant club. His time spent as a sentry on rail cars showing its worth, Brennen instinctively rushes the guard captain's side and pushes the man back and away behind him. He lifts his shield up to receive the ogre's blow. The impact of the club almost sends Brennen over the side, but he manages to keep his footing. His longsword darts out from behind the shield, stabbing at the ogre. He cuts flesh twice, and in the instant the ogre reacts to the pain, Brennen explodes forward, slashing at the ogre and slamming into it with his shield, pushing the creature back and away from the guard captain.

As you get close to the ogre, he lifts his arms high up into the air. A powerful stench of putrid, rotting animal flesh and body odor overwhelms your senses.

As a reaction, the Ogre can create an Aura 2: Any living creature that starts its turn within the aura is weakened until the end of its next. The Aura lasts until the beginning of his next turn.

Note, this power is easily rechargeable. You have been warned. :thog:

Saal masterfully ends the life of the Pirate while Cav runs up and slashes the Wererat Wizard. Vaine assaults a horde of enemies, slaughtering them all, while Bren attacks the Ogre with quite a bit of success.

The Wizard screams in agony before launching up into the sky and belching out a stream of burning hot acid, which quickly strikes the ground and melts through the flooring, as well as the support beams. The entire building lurches to the east. The Guard standing near Cav is burned badly then falls to his death. The Guard Captain slips and falls but manages to grab the ledge. He calls out, "SOME ONE HELP ME!" The Guard Axeman also slips and falls to his death.

Meanwhile the Weretiger, slips and falls down the center of the tower. As he does, he spits, "I WILL KILL YOU PSION!"

The Ogre takes his club and tries to bash Bren's Skull, he quickly follows up with a boot to the chest.

NOTE: ALL TERRAIN IS NOW DIFFICULT TERRAIN, as the entire building is lurching towards the east (like the Leaning Tower of Pisa but at an even more extreme angle.

The Ogre attacks Bren with a Club: 33 to hit AC. If hit, you take 16 damage.

The Ogre attacks Bren with his Boot: 27 to hit AC. If hit you are weakened.

Bren

Brennen tries to catch of glimpse of what is happening with his allies, but the massive ogre before him is too dangerous to ignore. He hears Cav shouting a warning, but can do nothing but sidestep the ogre's giant gnarled club. He maneuvers right into the ogre's trap, stepping into what would be a powerful kick strong enough to send him over the edge. But in that moment, more shouting occurs and the entire structure suddenly lurches to the side. The ogre becomes unbalanced and Brennen nearly falls down. The fatal kick misses the Orien heir, but what saved Brennen proves to be the undoing of many others, as he hears the yells of men falling to the ground below.

The building is now leaning precariously. Brennen is tense and anxious. The power of his dragonmark is on the verge of setting off, to whisk him away somewhere safe. But the fight is not over. There are still men left here, and his allies as well. Suddenly he hears the guard captain yelling for help. He glances behind his shoulder to see the man gripping for dear life over the edge. The ogre smiles a wicked toothy grin as it regains its footing, as if to tell Brennen he has no chance of rescuing the man. The knight feints to one side and then plunges his blade into the ogre when the giant falls for the ruse. As quickly as the attack happens, Brennen vanishes and reappears paces away, pulling the guard captain back up to the platform. Get your wounded and leave here! My friends and I will handle the rest!

Vaine

As the building lurches to the east, Vaine falls to one knee, barely catching himself on the ledge. He pulls himself up to see that there are few combatants left on either side. It would take too long to get to the wizard, so he hoped Cav could take care of himself for the moment. Right now, he decided to send his mental projection toward Cav to help out while he focused on the other threat: the ogre. Setting aside the weretiger's threats, he focused his mind completely on disrupting the ogre's ability to defend itself. A pale green stream of mental consciousness erupts from the orb and launches itself toward the ogre.

Dodging the wizards blast, Cav grins for a moment but feels the floor begin to wobble violently. Before he can shout or curse, the weak frame collapses, dropping him to the floors below. Saal nearly stumbles off his feet as the tower begins to shake. He continues his charge, sliding back and forth as he does so but nimbly making it to the target. He ducks and weaves into the Ogre's guard, before vaulting off the thing's knee and slamming his hilts into it's temples. Before he can land, his daggers fly into effect, searching for any opening in a hail of steel.

The Ogre roars as it is beaten and battered by his enemies. He looks quite faint for a second before tumbling off the side of the building. A loud splat can be heard, even from where you are so high up when the Ogre strikes the ground.

The Wizard, upon being struck by Cav's unexpected ranged attack, looks across the battlefield. Her companions and enemies are all dead. Believing survival is the better part of valor, she races off through the sky, casting a mist spell to hide her retreat.

The Guard Captain accepts Bren's help to regain his footing.

"Thank you comrade, however I fear it would have been better to let me fall. All of my friends are now dea..." He slowly looks away, attempting to hold back tears.

Cav

Glaring at the wizard as he makes his escape, Cav rushes over to the stairs and takes them two at a time and hops out on the roof, his rapier held ready. Seeing all the enemies dead, fled, or fallen, he nods to Bren and sheathes his rapier. "Quickly captain, is there anyone we can save?"

If there's any guards not totally dead Cav will attempt to revive them.

Vaine

Vaine watches the wizard leave and looks around at the carnage. Seeing the threat is ended, he dismisses his wispy duplicate and carefully stores his crystal orb in its pouch. He follows Cav, attempting to help the wounded guards. As Cav expertly mends the fallen soldiers, he realizes that the best thing he can do is stay out of Cav's way and do as he's told. He's tended to more than one wound in his days, but never so quickly and efficiently, doing it better with less bandage waste.

Moving over to the guard captain, he introduces himself and the others before asking, "Who were those assailants?"

Bren

Bren drags the guard captain back onto the platform and turns quickly to regard the ogre. His eyes bolt wide open. The creature had recovered more quickly than Brennen expected. A malevolent grin on its face, its club is raised in the air over its head, ready to crash down and obliterate Bren. With his shield arm hovering beside him over the prone captain, he has only his longsword to deflect the massive weapon. Looking up at his impending doom, Brennen catches movement out of the corner of his eye. With impeccable timing, Saal makes his way up the canted structure with the grace and agility of a cat, unleashing a flurry of attacks on the ogre before leaping through the air and ending the assault with a hail of knives. Instead of slamming down and braining him, the giant club slips from the ogre's hands and falls to the ground before Brennen. The ogre himself then stumbles back and falls over the edge. Brennen simply stares at the scene dumbfounded before finally regaining his senses. He stands and helps the captain to his feet, nodding his appreciation to Saal before saying, Thank you.

Seeing Cav, Brennen returns the nod. Everyone he came with seems okay. Cav tends to two men and signals that they will live. Brennen says to the captain, Not all of them. Go to Cav there. It seems some of your men have seen this encounter through to the end, and Cav can tend to your wounds.

He turns to Saal, We shouldn't tarry here. I don't know what caused the structure to tilt as it has but I don't trust it to hold indefinitely. Can you give me a hand with the wounded?

The guard captain nods as Vaine speaks before saying, "They were two local gangs - the Morak Pirates and the Saverne Lycans. I have no idea why they assaulted us on this tower, nor why they decided to do so at the same time... Something is definitely fishy." He watches Cav revive two of his friends, the Captain rushes over to help them.

The Captain of the Infamous Butler swings the ship around and flies by yelling, "Hop on board me maties, yar I have permission to ferry ya directly to the Uni!" The crew drops a rope ladder down and hovers over the tower.

Once on board, the ships plods over to the Knowledge Ward and drops you off in front of the Library. A tall, white haired man stands in a small grassy area, and waves as you approach. The Rope ladder is dropped and each of you descend in turn. The man introduces himself, "I am Provost Draco ir'Povijest, liaison between yourselves, the City Guard and the Dragonmarked Houses. I will show you inside the Esravash Library, where the meeting will be held tomorrow."

He ushers you inside the stone walled building, sofas line the wall near the entrance. Across from you lie four large gilded doors, with a guard standing next to each. "Inside there is the ball room, which has been converted into the meeting place of the thirteen Dragonmarked Houses' Representatives.

He then leads you north, showing you the quiet study area, filled with desks and floating ever-burning torches; the main library, whose shelves are filled to the brim with books (all of which were donated by the Matriarch of House Lyrandar); the professorial offices where some of the brightest minds at the University call home; and the Dining Hall where the walls are lined with red silk sofas, a darkwood table lies at the center surrounded by adamantine dining chairs.

The Provost leads out outside once more, "Now that the tour is over, may I suggest you look around yourselve..." A shady looking man wearing a black cloak slithers up to the Provost, who quickly excuses himself to have a chat with the cloaked figure.

Bren can easily make out what is being said, "What are you doing here!? Go back to the Hotel, come back... You know when!"

"Noooo. You wanted me to... Deal with zeee problem. I am here, I can do eeeet nooooow."

The cloaked figure motions to his belt. Cav and Saal both notice the distinct outline of a dagger.

Bren

The captain insists on helping his men, and so he and Cav carry one man to the Infamous Butler while Saal and Bren carry the other. The trip to the university is short and uneventful, and Brennen once again finds his mind distracted, this time by the adrenaline still working its way through his system. It seems lately that every time he boards or disembarks an airship, a battle ensues.

Once they land at the library, Provost Draco introduces himself and gives a short tour. Brennen is courteous to the man but is more concerned with what lies ahead. A former sentry, he is always alert and on the look out for danger. And given their current mission, now does not prove to be an exception.

At the moment, danger seems to be somewhat more conspicuous than usual, as a strange cloaked figure approaches the administrator and obviously puts the man off. The two engage in conversation and from what Brennen can hear, they may be dealing in affairs less than savory. Still on edge from the battle at the tower, Brennen wastes no time. He looks to Saal and Cav, nodding his head at the shady pair before them, then jabs his finger out at the cloaked man, You there! Step aside and reveal yourself! What business do you have with the Provost?!

Vaine

Vaine uses the trip on the airship as an opportunity to catch his breath and collect his thoughts. This big meeting would test his mental acuity as he would have to pay close attention to every word, every inflection, every bit of insight from their body language.

Vaine marvels at the library, an architectural masterpiece. He makes a mental note of the layout during the tour and tries to ascertain why they are being led to these particular rooms.

He also carefully studies the Provost, trying to discern whether he is friend or foe and what role he may play. This will be difficult, He thinks to himself. The Provost seems to be hiding something, but it's too early to tell what. Even good people having things to hide. Once alone with the group, I will lay out a detailed plan to observe and note the Provost's (and any others') movements, mapping who he speaks to and when. With enough intel and luck, we will eventually...

"Never spent much time in places like this." He says to the Provost as the man leads them around. "Always felt you learned more through gut-wrenching visceral experience." He takes a step back when the cloaked figure approaches to let him and the Provost talk. Now that is a little bit strange...

Huh, my post never posted, how weird...

The Provost spins around and holds up his hands, "No... No this isn't..."

"There's no use hiding it Provost. We Karns have to stick together." The man then flings his cloak back, revealing a glistening red wolf emblazoned on his chest. "HOW DARE YOU MISCREANTS INTERRUPT MY MASTER PLAN! YOU SHALL ALL PAY DEARLY FOR YOUR HUBRIS!" The man draws his sword and commands it to light on fire. His face now fully visible, you see his skin is the color of adamantine and he bears large snout with very long fangs.

Meanwhile the Provost holds pushes his glasses up along his nose and quietly states, "So much for our plan Gunfried. Oh well, easy come, easy go. He then thrusts his hand in the air and yells, "FOR KARNNATH!" As he does, a Scepter magically appears in his hand, while his professorial robes light on fire and are replaced by skin tight black armor, with a Red Wolf shimmering on his chest. As he grasps the scepter, four Skeletons suddenly manifest in the garden, baring magical pikes.

Saal rushes forward and strikes the Mage with his dagger, catching him off guard.

Meanwhile, Vaine casts forth his mental blasts and slaughters two zombies... Or does he? The two skeletons that fell glow with an unearthly green aura and slowly rise back to their feet!

The Dragonborn smiles as he looks at Bren, "I'm going to enjoy wearing your face after I kill you." The Dragonborn then takes three swipes at Bren's chest with his powerful, adamantine-coated claws.

Each of the skeletons race forward and strike a different opponent with their powerful pikes.

The Mage breathes heavily for a few moments before calling forth, "VINES OF DEATH SHEPHERD MY ENEMY AWAY AND ENSURE HE DOES NOT RETURN!" As he finishes his incantation, a small horrid horde of half dead, gray and brown vines stretches up out of the ground and grasps Bren and forcibly flings him away. Bren

Brennen ducks down behind his shield and absorbs the brunt of the dragonborn's furious flurry of claws. The mage behind him recovers from Saal's assault quicker than expected, and Brennen's only warning is the a foul incantation. Suddenly, a rotted and necrotic vine slithers around him and holds him in a vice-like grip. Brennen lets out a startled cry before the thing throws him to the other side of the room. He staggers to his feet and flinches at the pain of the vine's deathly touch.

Cav comes to his aid, sparing some healing power to wash away the pain and heal some of the injury done by the vines. He moves through the room, luring the dragonborn away from the mage. Brennen takes advantage of the opening and charges forward. His blade strikes true, cutting a line into the side of the dragonborn. Brennen follows up the attack with a teleport behind the Karn to flank him, slicing open another wound in the dragonborn's back. He then teleports again to fight alongside Cav, sustaining the power of his Mark so that he blinks in place, making it difficult to land a blow on him.

@Felhammer: If the mage ignored the Stun, then he was not granting Combat Advantage when Brennen hit him, so Brennen did not have Concealment in that round. That means that the Dragonborn's last attack actually hits (just so you know).

Vaine

Vaine watches his allies work furiously to end this threat, then adds his own wrinkle to the combat. He summons his duplicate manifestation, which immediately spins around, striking at the mage and nearby skeletons. He then steps away from the threatening skeleton, orders the duplicate to move and tries to blast the mage with another wave of mental energy.

A grin emerges on Saal's face as he sees Vaine manifest behind the mage. His eyes begin to twinkle but there is no mistaking them for mirth. A cold, inhuman window appears, if only for a second. "It seems you're a little distracted". he whispers. "In my line of work, that's a death sentence."

The grin never leaving his face, the shadow of hunger lingering in his eyes, Saal lashes out three times in quick succession. The dagger goes out high, drawing a gash just above the eyes to blind him with his own blood. The followthrough with a fist connects squarely in the kidney. The dagger arcs back, taking advantage of the shock to stab at the femoral artery.

"The mage cries out as he is struck by Saal's blade, "DAMN IT! You wretch! I will make sure your death is slow, brutal and painful!" He raises his hand to strike you with what look like boney claws but he stops and thinks for a second before whispering, "You shall not make me act with undue haste fool." He then yells, "VINES OF DEATH, GRAPPLE MY FOES!" Green and brown vines, that smell of rotten meat, slowly crawl out of the ground, and latch on to Saal and Bren, twisting around their bodies, restraining them from any movement. The Mage then sends Saal far away with a mere movement of his hand, while Bren remains where he was - at the mercy of the Dragonborn.

At the same time, the Skeletons that were slain scramble to re-assemble themselves and ready themselves to attack their foes. One runs behind the now restrained Bren and stabs him with his pike. Two other flank Vaine and attempt to skewer him, while the fourth tries to bash Saal's head in.

The Dragonborn smiles, "Hehehe, looks like you are gunna be my desert!" He licks his chops moments before he bites Bren three times, tearing a big gash on his shoulder. The Dragonborn then twists his head towards Cav and proclaims, "I will now make sure you never see another sunrise!" He takes his over-sized dragon-like claw and backhands Cav's head, then slashes his chest, then rakes Cav's face.

Bren

Bren feels the deathly iron grip of the vines again, but this time they hold him fast in place to make easy pickings for the dragonborn and one of the skeletal minions that keeps reassembling after being struck down. The thing jabs him with his pike and the tip of the weapon breaks through the rings of his chainmail. He cries out and struggles to get free but the vines instantly react, holding him tighter and threatening to suffocate him. The dragonborn smiles wickedly and bites down on his shoulder, causing Brennen to yell in pain. Cav manages to draw the large Karn off of Brennen, and when the man-dragon raises his claws to strike at the famed adventurer, Bren strikes.

He teleports out of the crushing grasp of the rotting vines, taking Cav with him. They instantly reappear, Bren behind the dragonborn and Cav behind Bren, away from the Karn's claws.

Opportunity Action - Feywild Guardian (triggered by KD's attack on Cav)
Effect - Teleport 3 squares (Feywild Guardian+Mark of Passage) to D-36 and teleport Cav to D-37 (Eldritch Abduction paragon path feature). Unless the dragonborn can reach Cav, all attacks against Cav fail. Make a melee basic attack vs. KD (Feywild Guardian).

Cav

"All you Karrnathians are-" Cav is cut off as Bren grabs him and Cav's stomach twists violently as he's pulled through a near dimension with the d'Orien. "-always the same!" Cav says, smiling as the dragonborn claws are just out of reach. "Always with the threats, and gloating..." Cav pauses as he plucks a whetstone off his bandolier and tosses it in the air, slicing through it with his rapier. Electricity crackles up and down his blade and he shakes his head as he advances toward the skeletons. "...and your damned undead!"

"Bren, keep him busy for a minute!" He says over his shoulder as he hacks down at the skeleton in between Vaine and Saal.

Immediate Reaction. Shield of Devotion. Saal regains 15hp.
Minor Action. Apply Tempest Whetstone.
Move Action. Move to E39 (by way of D38)
Standard Action. Melee Basic Attack vs KS4.

Attack! [roll0] vs AC 26

I'll heal Bren next turn. I want to make sure that Vaine and Saal can do their thing this round without worrying about the skeletons.

Saal's eyes widen in shock as the vines errupt around him. He watches helplessly as they pull him away. They hurt, the mage's arrogance hurt more.
His attention then turns to the shambling undead that have surrounded him. His movement inhibited, Saal struggles to get his blades up to parry one of thier blows. Sucking in a deep breath and pushing his body outward and then rapidly retracting and sucking in to get his daggers into place.

Having bought himself a moment of respite but feeling the vines readjusting, Saal's form changes slightly in size and he bends his body backwards, hacking to escape.

Unsure if he was truly free, but confident he had a moment, Saal ducks low and throws his dagger at the mage.

Vaine

Focusing on his duplicate, he teleports to its location, while it took his place between the skeletons. Though it put him beside the mage, he took a chance, and with every bit of mental energy he could spare, he attempted to dominate the powerful foe.

Start of Turn:
Take 3 ongoing necrotic damage

Move Action:
Dream Stride - Swap positions with Dream Form (no OA's from this movement)

Minor Action:
Distract vs. KM - Grants CA for next attack

No Action:
Headband of Intellect - Gain a +2 power bonus to the next Intelligence attack that you make this turn.

Standard Action:
Dominate vs. KM NOTE: Ranged attack provokes OA from mage.
...Attack: [roll0] vs. Will (28) (+2 for CA, +2 from headband, Will -6 from Mind Thrust last round).
...Hit: Target is dominated (Save Ends) and takes a -2 to next attack roll
...Aftereffect: The target takes ongoing 10 psychic damage (save ends).
...Miss: The target takes ongoing 10 psychic damage (save ends).

IF above attack misses but rolls above a 1, use Adept's Insight (A1): [roll1].

Dominated Condition Notes:
While a creature is dominated, it can’t take actions. Instead, the dominator chooses a single action for the creature to take on the creature’s turn: a standard, a move, a minor, or a free action. The only powers and other game features that the dominator can make the creature use are ones that can be used at will, such as at-will powers. For example, anything that is limited to being used only once per encounter or once per day does not qualify. In spite of this condition, the creature’s allies remain its allies, and its enemies, its enemies. In addition, a dominated creature grants combat advantage and can’t flank.

The creature takes a -2 penalty to its first saving throw against that effect (Dominating Mind Feat).

When a creature makes a save against one of your powers, it rerolls its saving throw and must take the new result (Orb of Impenetrable Escape Daily Power, use when mage makes its save).
End of Turn:
Save vs. Ongoing Damage: [roll2]
Despite allowing an opening for the mage to attack, Vaine's mental assault has given him temporary control of the mage.

Summary:
Vaine: End at F33, takes 3 necrotic damage, no longer taking ongoing damage
Dream Form: End at G40
KM: No longer -6 to all defenses, can take OA vs. Vaine (provoked when used ranged power while threatened), DOMINATED
E34, E35, E35, F34, F36, G34, G35, G36 are no longer difficult terrain for enemies.

Bren

Left alone with the dragonborn, Bren decides to take the fight back to the provost. The man's necrotic vines are dangerous, and Brennen suspects he is the force behind the reanimating skeletons. Bren

The Karrnathi dragonborn proves to be too strong-willed for Brennen to shunt through space and time, and the great reptilian man holds his ground against Bren's planar forces. He chances a glance back and sees that Vaine has somehow pacified the provost somewhat, so he decides to focus on the dragonborn. Switching the grip on his blade, he teleports behind the man-dragon and slashes in a wide cutting arc, hitting the skeleton behind him and sending it crumpling to the ground.
