View Full Version : Anybody Else Started Calling It "Oots?"

As in, "hey, what comic are you reading?" "Oh, that's Oots." Rhymes with 'boots'. Caught myself calling it that today. Is that normal? Am I...weird? It's not as bad as trying to explain lampshading to an English major, though.

Everyone I know who reads it calls it that, so I don't think it's unusual. Maybe it's just regional though.

Aye, I and everyone I know calls it that.

I don't know anyone in RL that reads OOTS besides myself, but no, I myself do not call it OOTS, I verbally spell it out when I mention it(as in O O T S).

Yep, I call it oots.

I would spell it out if the opportunity would rise. (I have no IRL friends interested in webcomics as far as I know...) Though I'd probably just say "The Order of the Stick", doesn't take that long.

None I know IRL read OotS, so I have ne reason to actually enunciate it. I'd probably call it "oots" if I did, though. I say WoW for World of Warcraft, after all.

Yeah, I don't know anyone in real life that reads this webcomic either. :smalltongue:

Everyone I know that reads it says "-oots"

OOTS like boots. I think I've been calling it that since i started reading it. And so do most of the people I know who read it...actually all of them. It's kind of used interchangeably with "Order of the Stick"

Not really honestly. I call it 'Order of the Stick'.

I call it "Order of the Stick". It's not mainstream enough for me to just use the abbreviation. I hope that when I actually say the name, people who would have no idea what I'm talking about if I said OotS might check it out and increase the readership of one of my favorite things. I normally type OotS, though. which is weird, because I mentally say Order of the Stick when I type out OotS.

I just call it "Order of the Stick; it's a D&D comic." Luckily most of my friends are also gamers, trekkies, or at least some kind of geek.

"Order of the Stick" for me.

I don't abbreviate many comic names - Questionable Content becomes QC, though.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever actually called it "Order of the Stick", it's just always been Oots (which rhymes with boots).

Either O.o.t.S. or Order of the Stick to me, when I bother to name it at all.

Doesn't Alarra read it?:smalltongue:

My friends who read oots call it oots. I don't remember what my brothers call it, having not seen them since August, and even then we were celebrating my recent marriage, so oots didn't come up much.

I've always called it oots, with my friends. I feel silly saying it, but sometimes when we're hanging out we check for a new comic and we get really excited when there is one.

I don't know. I've never talked about it, or had to verbalize it before.

I've been calling it "oots" for years now. It's the only real monosyllabic way to refer to the comic.

I just call it "Order of the Stick", really.

To be honest, "Oots" sounds to me like the name of some fuzzy felted muppet type creature that stars one of those brain numbing shows they make for pre-schoolers and toddlers.

I've always called it "oots", as that's how the guys who introduced me pronounced it.

Other people I've met that read it pronounce it that way too - or at the least they know what I'm talking about.

I was actually introduced to it by someone I know IRL...

You know, I never call it "OOTS" when speaking out loud, I always call it "The Order of the Stick". But then... I use some terms. For example when something is "OOTSy" or "OOTSified" or when I talk about "OOTS-Con".

But never the comic itself. That one's The Order of the Stick. :smalltongue:

Yup, my friends and I call it Oots too. And if there's a new comic, we call it Newts. (New + Oots)

My partner and I do the same thing. He sent me an email the other day entitled "Newts!" which was not only an alert to a new comic, but also had a charming little picture of a newt in it as well. :)

I call it "oots." However, when I type it online (phonetic pronunciation excepted) I always try to stick with the OoTS capitalization.

I call it "Order of the Belkar featuring those other guys.":smallwink: Though after Belkar dies, I guess I'll have to call it "Order of those other guys."

I think "Oots" but if for some reason I'm mentioning out loud I say the full name.

I think "Oots" but if for some reason I'm mentioning out loud I say the full name.

Me too.
If I went be Dr.Epic's naming convention it would be 'Order of Elan, his girlfriend and the 4 less awesome people'

My friend that introduced me to it, AFAIK, calls it the Order of the Stick. I call it OotS.

Oots sounds like oats with a Canadian accent. :smalltongue:
