Diablo II is (in my opinion) a great hack and slash, kick in the door, kill the demon, style game and it does fit a certain style of play where enemies are big bags of HP and XP so I created these templates to make Diablo style Unique Enemies or higher difficulties. Not much fluff, but then did the game have fluff for them?

Aura Enchanted (Aura Enchanted)
This Template may be applied to any creature.

The creature gains one of the following special qualities:

Aura of Might: All allies within 10' HD deal +1 damage per HD of the Aura Enchanted creature.

Aura of Flames: All enemies within 5' per HD take 1 fire damage a round per HD. The creature gains +1d6 Fire damage to all attacks per 4HD

Aura of Accuracy: All allies within 10' gain a +1 bonus (depending on alignment) to all attack rolls per HD

Aura of Ice: All enemies within 5' per HD take 1 cold damage a round per HD. The creature gains +1d6 Cold damage to all attacks per 4HD

Aura of Storms: All enemies within 5' per HD take 1 electric damage a round per HD. The creature gains +1d6 electric damage to all attacks per 4HD

Aura of Suffering: The resistances and damage reductions of enemies within 10' per HD are lowered by 2 points per HD (allowing two damage per HD to be dealt to creatures with immunity)

Aura of Battle: All allies within 5' per HD gain a +1 to attack and damage rolls per 2HD

Considering adding other Paladin aura and possibly custom ones but these are the in-game options.


Cursespewing (Cursed)
This template may be added to any creature. It provides the following special quality.

Curse of Retribution: When attacked the Cursespewing creature afflicts its attacker with weakness of the flesh, any successful attack against the Cursespewing creature causes a penalty to AC equal to half the Cursespewer's HD (Will Save 10+1/2 HD + Cha Mod negates) and all attacks against anyone who has this penalty deal +1 damage per HD of the Cursespewing Creature


Cold Souled: (Cold Enchanted)
This template may be added to any corporeal creature. It provides the following special abilities.

Special Attacks:
Freezing Touch: All attacks by a Cold Souled creature deal an additional 1d6 cold damage per 5HD and inflicted the Slowed condition for 1 round per 5 HD (Fort Save DC 10+1/2 HD + Con Mod negates)

Release the Ice: When killed the Cold Souled Creature deals double its freezing touch damage to all creatures within 5' per HD

Special Qualities:
Endure Frost: All cold damage taken by the Cold Souled creature is halved.

Speedy: (Extra-Fast)
This template may be applied to any creature. It gains the following abilities:

Speed: +10 ft to all Movement speeds per 2HD

Abilities: +2 to Dex per 2 HD

Special Qualities:
Incredible Speed: The Speedy Creature gains 1 additional attack with each weapon each round per 5HD

Supernatural Runner: When a Speedy creature takes the Run action it moves at x4+HD times its speed. It may run its ConxHD rounds before it needs to make a check to keep running.

Mighty: (Extra-Strong)

This template may be applied to any creature. It gains the following abilities:

Abilities: +2 Str per 2 HD

Special Qualities:
Mighty Blows: Any attack the creature makes deals damage as though it were delivered by a creature 1 size category larger per 4HD


Fire Souled: (Fire Enchanted)
This template may be added to any corporeal creature. It provides the following special abilities.

Special Attacks:
Flaming Touch: All attacks by a Fire Souled creature deal an additional 2d6 fire damage per 5HD

Release the Blaze: When killed the Fire Souled Creature deals double its Flaming Touch damage to all creatures within 5' per HD

Special Qualities:
Endure Flame: All fire damage taken by the Fire Souled creature is halved.

Spark Souled: (Lightning Enchanted)
This template may be added to any corporeal creature. It provides the following special abilities.

Special Attacks:
Electric Touch: All attacks by a Spark Souled creature deal an additional 1d6 Electric damage per 5HD

Release the Storm: When killed the Spark Souled Creature deals double its Electric Touch damage to all creatures within 5' per HD

Special Qualities:
Endure Lightning: All electric damage taken by the Spark Souled creature is halved.

Sparkstrike: When struck the Spark Souled creature releases 1 Lesser Orb of Electricity per 2HD that strikes one random creature within 10' per HD

Spellstopping: (Magic Resistant)
This template may be applied to any creature. It gains the following abilites:

Special Qualities:
Dispel Magic at will as a spell like ability with a CL equal to the creature's HD. This ability is always Quickened.

SR 14+HD

Elemental Striking: (Spectral Strike)
This template may be applied to any creature. It gains the following abilities:

Special Attacks:
Elemental Blow: Any ability or attack that deals damage also deals 1d6 damage of a random elemental damage (Acid, Cold, Electricity, Fire, or Sonic) per 5HD. This damage is different for every attack.

Elemental Resistance (All) 10 per 5HD

Enduring: (Stoneskin)
This template may be applied to any creature. It gains the following abilities:

HD: Double Hitpoints
Abilities: Con +2 per 2HD

Special Qualities:
DR 2/- per HD


Teleporting: (Teleporting)
This template may be applied to any creature. It gains the following abilities:

Special Qualities:
Blinking: This creature is under the effects of a constant Blink spell
Battlefield Movement: As a move action the Teleporting creature may teleport 20' per HD. It may also teleport 5' per 2HD as a Swift action.

Nightmare: (Nightmare Mode)
This template may be applied to any creature. It gains the following abilities:

HD: Double the base creature's HD
AC: +1/2 of the Base Creature's AC as an untyped bonus to AC
Attacks: +1/2 of the Base Creatures's attack bonus as an Untyped bonus
Damage: All attacks go up 2 size categories, have their threat range doubled and their crit multiplier increased by x1
Abilities: +the base creatures HD to Str, Dex, Con, Int, Wis, and Cha

Saves: +1/2 the base creatures HD to all saves

Special Qualities:
Damage Reduction 5/- per 4 HD
SR 8+HD
Energy Resist (All) 10 per 5HD

Destroyer: (Hell Mode)
This template may be applied to any creature. It gains the following abilities:

HD: Triple the base creature's HD, double Hitpoints
AC: +150% of the Base Creature's AC as an untyped bonus to AC
Attacks: +150% of the Base Creatures's attack bonus as an Untyped bonus
Damage: All attacks go up 5 size categories, have their threat range tripled and their crit multiplier increased by x3
Abilites: +2x the base creatures HD to Str, Dex, Con, Int, Wis, and Cha

Saves: + the base creatures HD to all saves

Special Qualities:
Damage Reduction 10/- per 4 HD of the base creature
SR 16+HD
Energy Resist (All) 20 per 5HD of the base creature
Immunity to 1 Element



Possible options for Nightmare and Hell creatures would be alternate material planes where every creature gains the template.

PS: I am clueless on CRs. If anyone has ideas let me know, if not I'll playtest them and try and get back to this thread before it fades into necro-land.
