For a long while now, I've been digging a lot of really dark alt country/folk/bluegrass sort of stuff. It's like a disease. I need to spread it like a glorious musical plague. Here we are in the deep dark roots.

Murder By Death - Steal Away (http://murderbydeath.bandcamp.com/track/steal-away)

The Dirt Daubers - Get Outta My Way (http://youtu.be/1GG7j9A2jA8) (Yes, that *is* Col. JD Wilkes from Th' Legendary Shack Shakers, and speaking of.....)

Th' Legendary Shack Shakers - Where's the Devil (when you need him.) (http://youtu.be/tgphO4JJIrw)

O'Death - Low Tide (http://youtu.be/HRaiPCFTw-0)

Clutch - Regulator (http://youtu.be/2ziH7PfCmOY)

Greg Graffin - Omie Wise (http://youtu.be/YUszNbvkK98) (Yes, the front man for Bad Religion has a solo folk album.)

the Builders and the Butchers - Golden and Green (http://youtu.be/CirGCKj5ZGw)

The Hackensaw Boys - Gypsy (http://youtu.be/PdE__dqc0Yk)

Eh, not really my kind of music. Half the stuff I listen to is by British people, anyway. :smalltongue:

Some cool stuff in there that I'll definitely be checking out. I heard that Clutch song in a The Walking Dead episode but never knew what it was, so thanks for that.

My personal favorites are 16 Horsepower (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-J9DQNHEvs), Those Poor Bastards (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=326WpN3wMUo), and the grim king of gothic country, Jay Munly (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvnCkMRNIS4), who is one of my favorite lyricists and songwriters ever.

Well, I won't say that every last track above grabbed me equally, but this has certainly expanded my knowledge of the genre. I've dabbled with it previously, a little, (Possibly after clicking a link in a previous thread around here).

As they haven't been linked, the highlights I've found before now I'd say would have to be Reverend Glasseye and his Wooden Legs (http://youtu.be/IbSWkbacyRg) (Who I'm sure I've heard described as Gothabilly (http://youtu.be/52EMfcZa5dY) which is one of the best genre names I've heard in years) and Vermillion Lies (http://youtu.be/Mw-cN4LxrK0) Though I'm not sure how country they really count as. Not that that's going to stop me linking them. (http://youtu.be/5uc9BehDXcw)
