ok, so you just spent a feat to learn an exotic weapon! you probably got a spiked chain, or used a 3rd party source. exotic weapon suffer for the fact the only difference between them and a martial weapon is one damage dice step(looking at you dires, bastard sword, dwarven war axe, elven blades, ect)
not worth a feat, much like the weapon focus line.

but the spiked chain... that is promising. two handed, inclusive reach, tripping, bonus to disarming, and finesse able! that is worth a feat for quite a few builds. so, my idea, make exotic weapons work smarter, not harder. they are exotic because they are complicated, not because they are flat out better weapons.

so, poster child: the cane sword

exotic one handed melee weapon
with the blade sheathed, it may be used to deal bludgeoning damage a heavy mace of it's size, and can make trip attempts. with the sword is drawn it acts as a rapier of its size, and the sheath can be wielded as a club of its size.
the weapon is enchanted as a whole, giving the enhancement bonus to all parts. any feats that improve the users skill with the cane sword improve his skill with all parts(so weapon focus(cane sword) grants a +1 bonus to hit with the sword, the sheath, and the sheathed sword.)

See Cityscape Web enhancement for official stats here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20070314a.

I'm not sure why you would consider it an exotic weapon in any case. I used to own one of these. The fact that the case is hollow would not make it all that sturdy to be useable as a weapon unless it would be prone to breaking.
