Looking at the Ravager class in CW, I thought it was pretty good until I realized something. All the abilities I thought were the first few passive bonuses given before the more flavorful stuff were actually the entirety of the class and limited to X/day. No wonder the books says Ravager bands attack without warning, then retreat - otherwise people might find out that they're only different from normal warriors a few times a day.

Anyways, I decided I'd remake the Ravager. Here it is.

The Ravager of Erythnul

Ravagers are Erythnul's favored servants, imbued with his power in addition to their own bloodlust. These powers make them a deadly force in combat and over time it becomes increasingly difficult to keep them from slaughtering everything they wish to die as their defenses grow.

Ravagers generally travel in small groups, spreading death and chaos as they go, but as with every religion Erythnul has different sects. The different sects generally leave one another alone, but when they meet they either fight to see who is right or make a temporary alliance to spread slaughter before splitting up again. Some sects believe that a true follower of Erythnul travels alone or with an apprentice and others teach that the follows or the Many should gather armies to spread death in as great a range as possible.

Skill Points per Level: 4 + Intelligence modifier
Class Skills: Climb (Str), Intimidate (Cha), Jump (Str), Knowledge(religion)(Int), Listen (Wis), Ride (Dex), Spot (Wis), Swim (Str), Survival (Wis), Tumble (Dex).

If you use the Tome of Battle in your games, add Knowledge (Martial Lore) to the Ravager's skill list.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: If they did not already possess it, a Ravager gains proficiency with all simple and martial weapons as well as all types of armor and shields (but not tower shields).

Touch of Pain (Su): Erythnul's true followers do not need to rely on weapons for slaughter, their mere touch can kill. A ravager gains an unarmed touch attack that deals 1d8 points of damage + 1 per ravager level. A weapon can channel the Touch of Pain, but it only gains 1d4 + 1 per 2 ravager levels bonus damage.

Scatter the Meek (Su): Slaughter is the goal of Erythnul's followers. Whether a ravager wants to find a worthy opponent in a crowd or simply ignore those weaker than them while they cut them down, a ravager of 2nd level or higher is given a gift from Erythnul to aid them. The ravager is constantly surrounded by an aura of unease. All the ravager considers hostile to them within 10 feet take a -2 morale penalty to Will saves and attack rolls. Those with a number of hit dice equal to the ravager's effective character level - 4 or fewer must make a Will save (DC = 10 + ravager level + charisma modifier) or be frightened for 2d4 rounds. Those who fail this save cannot re-enter the ravager's aura without again being frightened for 24 hours and those who make the save are unaffected for the same period of time.

At levels 5 and 8, a ravager's aura range increases by 10 feet.

Battle Rites (Ex): A ravager's prayers are the strikes of their blade and their rites the finishing blows they end lives with. A ravager of level 3 or higher gains a +1 bonus to all saves if they dealt damage to an enemy in the last round. If a ravager drops an enemy this bonus is doubled for one round.

At levels 5, 7 and 9 this bonus increases by 1.

Brutal Refusal (Ex): There are those who would stop a ravager with magic that impedes their ability to fight. Over time Erythnul grants his followers growing resistance to such effects, as well as a painful response to those who would dare try and stop them.

A ravager of level 4 or higher gains a +2 bonus to saves against spells and other effects that would incapacitate them, such as Hold Person. Whenever they make their save against such an ability, they gain a +3 bonus to the next attack they make against the creature that used the ability, which deals an extra 3 points of damage.

At level 5 a ravager becomes immune to fear while they have a bonus to saves from Battle Rites.

At levels 6, 8 and 10 a ravager's Brutal Refusal becomes stronger, dealing an extra 2 points of damage.

Bonus Feat: At level 5, a ravager gains a bonus feat. This bonus feat must be taken from the list of Fighter bonus feats. A ravager counts as a fighter of their class level for the purposes of taking fighter-only bonus feats.

If you are using the Tome of Battle supplement, I would recommend adding feats that improve or give more maneuvers to the list of ravager bonus feats.

Bloody Defense (Ex): Erythnul gifts his more powerful followers with a greater control of the blood they spill in their quest for slaughter. A ravager of level 6 or higher gains a bonus to their AC equal to their Charisma modifier as long as they are below their maximum HP or have dealt damage to an enemy in the round before. The ravager's sheer force of will creates a bloody barrier around them in combat.

Clarity of Slaughter (Ex): A ravager fights with the strength and conviction of one who knows that their purpose is to slaughter. Starting at level 6, they gain triple their bonus to saves from Battle Rites as a bonus to skill and ability checks made to find enemies in combat or move towards enemies.

At level 7, while they have a bonus from Battle Rites, the ravager also gains Darkvision 100'.

For example, a 6th level ravager with a +2 bonus from Battle Rites would gain a +6 bonus to Jump checks if they needed to jump over a gap to reach an enemy archer, but not if they were making a grapple check or a Tumble check to avoid an attack of opportunity while moving away from their enemies.

Silence of the Grave (Ex): A ravager's enemies are already dead, despite what they might think, the moment they are struck by such a devout follower or Erythnul. Starting at level 7, a creature struck by a ravager must make a Fortitude save with a DC of 10 + the ravager's class level + their Charisma modifier or be unable to make any noise for 1 round. This makes casting spells with verbal components or using sound-based abilities (such as a dragonne's roar) impossible.

Soul Cut (Su): A ravager can call upon Erythnul's power to allow them to slice deeper than the flesh of their enemy, cutting into their spirit itself. A level 8 or higher ravager can, once per encounter, declare that their next attack will be a Soul Cut (this means that a failed attack roll expends the use of the ability with no effect). A Soul Cut, in addition to dealing normal damage, also deals 1d4 Constitution damage and prevents the target from using divinely-granted Supernatural abilities for 2 rounds.

Retort of Pain (Su): A ravager quickly learns to push the pain they feel away from their mind, to focus on slaughter. Eventually they learn to redirect their pain, lashing out at those who attack them. At level 9 a ravager gains the ability to, when dealt damage by a magical (or psionic, etc.) source, reply with a surge of suffering directed at their attacker. Whenever a ravager takes damage from such a source they can choose to send a Retort of Pain at the source. The user of the ability must then make a Will save (DC = 10 + the ravager's class level + their Charisma modifier) or take nonlethal damage equal to the damage they dealt with the ability.

Uplifting Brutality (Su): A ravager revels in slaughter. At level 10 a ravager can take to the skies after spilling blood, gaining a fly speed equal to 10 * their Charisma modifier with perfect maneuverability for two rounds after dealing damage (this can be to themselves, Erythnul understands that sometimes one must harm themselves before they can reach those they wish to slaughter).
