Once he knows he is being watched, and more specifically, watched by wolves, he throws the club down to the ground, and kneeling, starts speaking to the pack that has no-doubt begun to surround him. As close as a goblin can get to a coo, he talks to them: "Noble creatures...hunters...sniffers... Claws and fur and teeth and power... Hear what I ask of you... know that I trust you... Watch me, know me, know that I don't wish you harm... Show me the same respect I hold for you, noble beasts.... and there will be years of strength and fullness for your families... I can help you, if you let me...."

He kneels in the woods, unarmed, eyes shut, listening to the pack surround him, speaking calmly and slowly, fully trusting them to be more intrigued than aggressive. And should there be a Worg among them, they may even be willing to talk. Either way, he will sit there as long as it takes before one of them finally becomes curious enough to take a closer look, constantly preaching to them about how noble and magnificent they are and how much better they could become with help.

(Don't worry, I am happy for that much. I wasn't planning on 'rearing' them either [PERVERT! Just kidding, of course, I know the term], especially since they're full grown already. Honestly, I was hoping for intelligent Worgs, but Ill shelf this side quest for now.)

Disgruntled, Narik grabs his club off the ground and shuffles out of the woods. hood drawn up over his face, he figures that seeking out the other evil travelers would be the best bet. In his haste, however, he leaves the mess of rags and cloth behind. Probably couldnt find it again anyway.

As you enter the tavern where Jebel said she would be, you notice that one of the bar maids seems to be keeping her eyes on you. Eventually she catches your eye and winks in a way that clearly hints that she's her.
(damn... gone for a few hours and two whole pages...THANK YOU FOR THE LEVEL!)

Peering at the bar maid, karsht begins to focus on her mind, "Well, if it isn't a familiar mind... Hello Jebel, how are you doing? Would you happen to have a bit of time to spare?"

Okay so Kolosan has a +5 attack for 3d6+7 damage.

Against AC 21, that comes to a hit 25% of the time, with an average of 17 damage. For 4 damage.

Baldor hits for +3 for 3d6 damage, but it's touch AC, so he'll hit 60% of the time. For 6 damage.

Lucius does +5 for 1d12+6 for 12 damage. For 3 damage.

Average 13 damage a round.

The fighters have +0 to attack due to intimidate and non-lethal. Given that your guys AC is 17, 21, and 20. That means they will hit 20%, 5%, 5% of the time for 1d8 + 2 damage or 6 damage average.

Meaning attacking the lowest ac will do 1 damage a round, and the highest will never hit.

The fighters will go down in 4-5 rounds on average, considering you've already done the damage.

If my calculations seem off, feel free to correct me, but seeing how everyone is offline and it's hard to restart combat, my calculations show given average rolls you would win.

(If you guys want me to, I can always attend the games to try and mess with the other fighters. Intimidate from the stands, illusions that only they can see, non-lethal damage, etc.)

Following Jebel into the back room, Karsht sits down (On a chair? A barrel? Some drunk dude?) "Well then, I wanted to talk to you about a business proposition. I want to sell my soul for certain... benefits. Of course, I will be trying to drive a hard bargain, so let me know if you are even open to the suggestion."

Jebel turns to you.

"Well as a Harvester devil I can do this obviously, but the pact is strict. We have a long few hours ahead of us before this goes through I think."

~Arena~

At the arena the manager (did I give her a name yet?) gives you 2000 gold pieces (3 CR 3 monsters is an ECL 6 encounter).

"Keep it up hot shot, people are coming to the arena like crazy today. I look forward to seeing your progress in the future in the Glitz Pit!"

Narik, once in town, generally wanders about for a few minutes, diliberately avoiding the crowd at the 'Glitz Pit' (It had been agreed, he remembers, that we would keep a low profile. Outside of Lucius, though, the rest of thr group were probably elsewhere. The one he was most concerned with, right now, was Karsht, since he would have (hopefully) by now purchased quite the suitable pot.

Pondering this for a moment, he decided against sending out a 'Message' to him, instead deciding that if the mind-reader was going to be making money, he'd be doing it at the Casino. Hood drawn up tight and using the club as a cane of sorts, the disgruntled goblin heads there as quickly as he can.

Snip

(Sorry I had to look something up)

You come to the casino. It's near the Glitz pit but is a bit less noisy, mainly cause slot machines haven't been invented yet. The guard casually looks you over, and gives you the basic "no mind control, mind reading, violence, etc" speech he gives everyone in a dull voice that makes it clear he's bored.

You come into the casino and notice card games, horse races, and a few other games sitting around the place.

You can play 3 types of game.

Against the house
Against other players
Pure luck

The first two use your wisdom score (and the wisdom score of your opponents) to determine your chances of winning. Only luck bonuses apply in this circumstance, you cannot "circumstance" a +2 to playing cards. Plus using magic is risky due to cheating.

Pure luck is just "place your bet, roll 1d20, and pray you don't lose." Only the cheat spell can manipulate this.

Before I make a really stupid decision if you die in the arena do you die in real life? Also is there a place to heal free after?

You tend to not die in the arena for two reasons.

1. 3 versus 3 is non-lethal.
2. 1 versus 5 and elemental is against summoned monsters, if you surrender the mages call off and dismiss the monsters. Keep in mind that elemental is also 3 versus 3.

You are healed by the Arena's mages up to maximum health at the end of every fight, you do not regenerate class features however.

HOWEVER.

In a 1 versus 5 or elemental fight, if you get an unlucky crit and it takes you to -10 yes, you do die. However it would have to take you to -10 in one shot, cause the instant you are down the monsters are called off.

Taking 10 + 9 19 Craft weapon smithing +2 if he has a fancy smith.

So you make 10 gold pieces and 5 silver. You also meet a young apprentice there. "Maria Custard" she introduces herself to you, with her blue hair standing out. "If you ever need house work done, tell me. I love architecture and design. Plus I can help you if you need guns." She smiles with a weird smile, it's not evil, just genki..."I love guns, and I love watching them get used. Tangeshima's firearms were key in beating Miki. I almost wish there was someone else to fight. It got boring over the last few years."

"Don't mind her." The head smith tells you. "She's insane, loves weapons too much. I keep telling her, the best weapon is one you never have to use."

"But then there was no reason in forging it!" Maria counters, and the two start to have a debate that you can clearly tell they've had many times before about the purpose of weapons and crafting them.

"Well there was that one weapon I was forging...I called it the Tulip, but it would take too much money to complete...and it would need a power source of extreme power, something like the active volcano outside of the town. I can show you the plans if you'ld like after we're done."

She finishes up the musket she was working on and examines it. "Perfect, of course a musket is impractical unless you know what you're doing since they take so long to reload."

The smith pipes up. "Don't bother, she'll need around 10 million gold pieces to make it, and that's assuming she gets it right the first time. Plus it would basically level the whole area, so it's kinda impractical."

After you're done your crafting for the day she takes you into the back room and shows you a super complex plan, that you don't entirely understand. from what you got out of it, it's an earthquake generator that could strike anywhere on the planet.

"But due to the huge amount of magical energy, and machinery that goes into it, I need to use either a volcano or some kind of super powerful magical item to run it. Also the main part.." she points to the part that goes under the planet's crust. "Needs to be made of obdurium to take the heat. You go the library and look around. The lady there helps you. "We don't have anything on the other side of the forces, obviously, there is still so much we don't know, but this is a good book about the war and how the forces helped work together, as well as the damage the Demon King did."

"I will look at that book about the demon king."

The book details the various ways the Demon King corrupted and attacked the forces of good. You find no data on her forces except that they consisted of many of the "monstrous" races, as well as a special elite force that consisted of unique and freighting creatures that seem out of this world. There is a passage in the book saying that they could not tell the forces plane of origin and some believe they came from somewhere elsewhere all together or were created by Miki via magic.

As stated by the mages in the tavern in Zeth. The book details the 6 apostles of Miki.

Shikibu, Gigai, Madou, Xaiver, Kentaro, and Byakko.

It also details their "defeats".

Kentaro was killed during the final stand at Miki's fortress in Leazus.
Madou was killed during an attack on Shimazu.
Xaiver was not killed, but was banished by the Tanna miko, into the Abyss.
Byakko was captured and sealed by the Hojo Diviners.
Gigai supposedly escaped into the nine hells, but he is unaccounted for.
Shikibu is still at large, but is carefully staying under the radar.

Tangshima being a small country was largely ignored by Miki's corruption, however large numbers of firearms were stolen and captured over the course of the war. Takeda's famous cavalry were beaten many times by Miki's firearm wielding forces.

"They're masters of the Ying-yang ways. They summon divine beings and use paper charm to cast their magic. They sealed Byakko rather than kill him, cause it was theorized that he might've regenerated in the netherworlds if they killed him. Byakko was "killed" around 6 times before they sealed him. Not sure if Miki just kept making copies or whether it was some kind of technique. They need time to cast their spells, so they were often combined with the Kenshin footsoldiers."

Edit: Also please keep in mind that Kentaro was the one who broke and hid the crown, NOT the forces of good. It is highly likely that there is one or more in Leazus however due to Kentaro probably wanting to keep a shard for research or his own use.

I guess that is enough info for today, Baldor will walk around town taking in the sights

Lucius rubs his chin "Then would you mind if I were to instill a bit more.... 'Loyalty' into these kobolds, since you hold no ties to them and all. As for my base of operations, currently we're hiding away in Tengeshima, nothing fancy, but we plan to move intk a Volcano fort. Which, might I add, would be a much better home for a Red Dragon and his hoard. Not to mention it will be a far more intimidating sight to behold for anyone so bold and foolish to attack us. A couple of Kobolds might have to die for the greater good but...." and while Lucius let Lee think about the idea of the Blackguard enslaving the Kobolds, he spun his tale. Telling the dragon about their plans for corrupting the arena, of creating their own smithy and supplying ourselves with good weaponry and selling shoddier weapons, and our other plans for taking over the goblin tribes and acting benevolent on the outside in order to cover us moving soldiers and minions into key positions. "Once you've made up your mind about the Kobolds I can show you our temporary base of operations."

(I don't think further diplomacy is necessary but eh, I feel like rolling dice while I still have power: [roll0])

"The Kobolds will not be turned by brute force. Their desires are basic, feed them, clothe them, etc and they'll be fine. Many will not leave the area, it is their home after all. I will talk to them about it after I have discussed it with the rest of your group. Let us head back into the city." He turns to a few of the kobolds. "Watch over the place and report to me if anything goes wrong."

The kobolds nod and salute.

"I swear I don't know why they do that. We haven't been attacked in ever, I've maybe killed one wild animal in the whole time spend here."

"Ah I know of that volcano, it hasn't erupted in centuries. Building there would be dangerous, but it would be next to impossible to attack. Plus lava makes a good place to place red dragon eggs. I can see why you came to the kobolds, you'll need some good miners to work it."

He walks into your headquarters. "No much for now, looks like you've got a basic income idea, but you'll need some start up funding to get a steady flow of income right? Well...I'm not doing anything with the gold we find...I don't see why other dragons sleep on piles of gold. A bed is so much more comfy."

Edit: Please refer to the OOC, I have important information.

Jebel turns to you.

"Well as a Harvester devil I can do this obviously, but the pact is strict. We have a long few hours ahead of us before this goes through I think."
(Umm, I am just going to move right on along I guess...)

Tenting his fingers and resting his chin on them, Karsht looks at her appraisingly. "Well then, I guess we must discuss terms... I wish to form a Pact Certain. In return for my soul and service to your superior, and possibly yourself, I wish to be made a mortal agent of the Pact Primeval. To make it simple, I want to make a deal to be able to make other deals and enforce the terms as thought I were a harvester devil like yourself, or an erinyes. Hmm... I think I have a list around here somewhere..."

Fumbling around with his pockets for a bit, he pulls out a small piece of parchment "Ahh, here it is." He then hands it to Jebel.

The ability to negotiate and form Faustian pacts. This includes a standard portion of credit for each soul, and empowers me with the ability to use various spell-like and supernatural abilities with the sole purpose of being used to hold up my end of a deal.
I will be allowed to live my entire natural lifespan, and if I should be killed I will be allowed to be resurrected, raised, reincarnated, etc.
Upon my permanent death, or at a time of my choosing, I will be transformed immediately into a unique devil with innate power comparable to the number and value of the souls I have collected and deals I have made.
I will be granted hunting ground rights within any land I own, as well as to any governments I create/corrupt/foster/etc.
A small portion of the energy extracted from the souls I send to the pit shall be set aside for my personal usage. This usage could be in the form of redeemable value (OOC: Not sure how to explain this... I guess the best analogy would be frequent flyer miles, or bonus reward points, something like that.) or services rendered.

(Let me know if any of you have suggestions/ideas/questions about the deal. I am pretty much using it as a way to solidify our power base and gain influence. As a fun side-effect, we will also be getting a decent ally (in the form of Jebel since her reputation would suffer if we fail, and she benefits from every soul I collect) as well as a potential workforce of devils if I do well enough to warrant an infernal promotion.)

Smiling, he raises his hands placatingly "I realize I am asking quite a bit for a pact, but since it is pretty much a employment contract as opposed to immediate gain, I figure it balances out."

Morithias
2012-11-01, 11:26 AM
Jebel looks over the pact. "It's a bit simple, but there a lot of things I can't do."

"1. I can't overule the pact primeval, only devils can make pacts, the most I can probably give you is some kind of imp who does the deals for you.

2. The killed off thing isn't that big of deal, but keep in mind that if you're in a soul contract and you die, and you want to get resurrected, you need to go to the infernal courts. So unless you have a good lawyer....yeah, I can't promise that either.

3. The only "unique" devils are the dukes of hell even above the Pit Fiends, you would need tens of thousands of souls to pull that off.

4. Well that's not hard really. The soul goes to whoever is responsible for the corruption, you become a devil, the hunting ground is yours.

5. I'm not sure if I can do this either. Most soul energy is used for promotions and that's it. Do you realize how useless a soul is when it comes to crafting magical items? 4 vials of liquid pain is more valuable."

She scans over the contract over and over.

"All in all there isn't much in here I personally object to, but if you don't mind I need to take this contract to my superiors and get their approval. Unique pacts like this need a ton of paperwork to do. Consider yourself under appraisal for now, if you keep doing a good job, the more likely you'll get approved, got it?"

New quest: Impress Lee.

Recruit an architect, and a bookkeeper.

Currect base has:

1 small house
1 Fancy forge.

Current bookkeeping reveals the following about the forge.

The forge will cost 115 gold pieces a week to run. (-25 base, +1 resource, +1 risk * 5).

The forge will bring in income equal to a craft check * 5 with various modifiers.

The secondary skills of the forge are appraise and diplomacy. Other modifiers can be found in the DMG2.

The forge grants +2 to craft checks.

Money made via crafting for money is not part of the profit check, it is something else, you can make crafting for money checks, and profit checks at the same time. You only make one profit check regardless of how many people are working in the forge. However for each person aiding the main check you get a +2 to your profit check.

Upgrading the forge (+1d4 to profit checks) will cost 2000 gp, you can only do this once every 3 weeks.

TLDR: Roll a craft check subtract 23, add modifiers and get money times your results *5

Snarling in genuine anger and disgust, the little goblin hops out of the chair, turns and marches out of the casino, hood still drawn tight as it exits. Enough of this waiting around crap!

Weaving it's hands together, mumbling to itself in goblin, Narik cast's message to Karsht: "Where are you now? I am back, Where do we meet?"

The message, of course, would be sent in common.

Cocking his head to the side and listening to a whispering voice "Well then, I shall see you later Jebel, I need to go and fetch a small green thing... And possibly corrupt some politicians and children."
He gets up and leaves, thinking to himself as he goes Hmm... I wonder how I can make the deal better... And just where in the hell do I go to look for the friggin' goblin!? Damn spell doesn't let me get a response back... Wait... what spell was used on me anyway...?

Taking 10 on spellcraft I think that this would count as the "Identify a spell that’s already in place and in effect. You must be able to see or detect the effects of the spell." usage.
If so Ahh, right, he used a message spell to contact me. That means that he must be within about 200 feet of me right now... well then, lets go find him and then go get him a cauldron of his choice... and he walks off in search of the little pyro that could.

"That depends." Yumi starts. "I'm not that good with criminal businesses, those are less about the skill and more keeping yourself out of trouble. It's easy to make a profit stealing stuff, it's harder to make a profit stealing stuff and staying out of the guard's way."

"Crafting weapons and armour is a decent idea. I think the smart thing to do would be to register with the merchant's guild through me and open a shop so you can sell directly. It'll be expensive but cutting out the middle man and buying stuff second hand can save you a lot of money." She finishes and glances at Lee.

"How much money are we talking?"

"Probably around 25k to start off." Lee states. "I don't have a ton of gold personally, cause I let the kobolds keep a lot of it. What can you do with that?"

"Maybe one shop." Yumi replies. "But it'll be a shop in the city so it'll bring in a lot of customers. Probably have enough leftover for any accidents or problems. She pulls out a piece of parchment and does some quick calculations."

"17k? 19k if you want a fancy place." Lee looks over it.

"Yeah but the fancy place will bring in a large amount." Yumi counters. "Plus we'll have the extra money the forge brings in."

The two continue their debate and calculations. Almost forgetting you're there.

"Of course if we keep improving the shop we could corner the market and make a fair amount. All legit too, which would keep our heat down."

"Makes sense." Lee says back. "What do you think?" He turns to you two.

You cannot recruit Lee as a minion yet, he is too high of level. He is more of a "contact" for now.

You can recruit 1 minion every 2 levels, and the minion's CR must be 2 or more below the PC's level. Lee is CR 13. So you'll have to wait til level 16 before you can recruit him. Level 14 if you manage to clear him before then.

If you don't want the artificer Maria, you can find someone else.

"Fancy shop it is then." Yumi says. "Lee, can you come with me to the guild? We can cover the expenses and so on with it."

"Sure thing Princess." Lee says. "I look forward to seeing the place you setup."

Lee gets out of his chair. "But I need to go pick up the gold first. If you don't mind let's get out of the city, and I'll fly you to the kobold cave. It'll be quicker that way."

"That sounds fun!" Yumi happily says. "I look forward to working with all of you." She says as she bows, and they leave if you do not say anything else.

You understand the core concept. But that's like saying someone knowing that the concept of a nuclear generator is "create steam to turn a turbine". Basically you'll need to dig WAY under the earth's crust and install some kind of hammer-like device, that will need to be made of obdurium to take the heat from inside the planet.

The reason you understand it will be expensive, is not just the material, but also with how complex the machine is, from what you can tell she's trying to simplify and make it cheaper to make and less likely to accidentally blow up the planet.

It's clear she's put a ton of work into this machine however. She seems dedicated to it. She walks to the bed and takes her clothes off, ignoring you're there, and slides into the bed in her undergarments, and goes to sleep.

What came out of the goblin's mouth at the idea of a pink kitty cauldron could not even be considered words. Cursing and mumbling to himself, he resists the urge to pick a fight with his current 'ally' and instead follows him, about as unsubdued as ever, to the shop. When there, he rushes in the door past the psychic, scurrying about the various shelves and piles of equipment, scouting for a cauldron at least twice the size of his own body. Hopefully bigger, even, than that.

If so, make me a list while I talk to the shop keep.
Giving an innocent smile to the shop owner karsht starts to subtly influence her mind while speaking "I apologize for my friend's bad mood. He was working on a project when his cauldron cracked. Anyway, let us discuss the purchase pricing of this cauldron... Hmm..." Turning back to the goblin "Narik, while we are here, do you want to restock on any reagents and ingredients, last I checked, I think we were running low on some of them?"

Sticking his head out of the cauldron (which he somehow scaled and entered during Karsht's speech, Narik grunts, pointed little teeth showing ear-to-ear.

In not-quite-as-violent (but still rather excited. Happy? Was he capable of happy?) common, Narik starts listing out several other things they should look to purchasing.

"Replacement Alchemy Kit.... The pots and bowls of a Cooking Kit.... A leeching kit could be very useful... Mortars...Pestles... Candles..."

At this point the goblin has, again, sunk out of view into the large pot, his chattering voice echoing out eerily.

"Firewood too...Though I guess we could just get our own... Water is the same.... Oil is a necessity for my work, as much as possible.... Acids... Salts... Lichen... Wolfsbane... Belladonna... THose little red berries with the sharp leaves?... Nightmoss... OOH!"

His head pops out of the cauldron again, cocked to the side inquisitevly.

"We wouldn't be able to find any Rot-Root here? Or Black Lotus extract?"

The shopkeeper looks at you. "Poisons with the exception of drow knockout poison are illegal to produce or buy without license, and the license is EXTREMELY expensive and requires a ton of paperwork and lookover. Most of the other stuff we can do." She starts to go through the reagents, and goes through it. "Okay the pot is 50 gp, and the reagents are" She then gives you a number relative to what you're buying (just spend the 1/3 crafting cost when you make alchemy items or potions, less paperwork than keeping track of what you've bought ahead of time).

She goes over the pot. "Good pot too, shouldn't crack even if you start making flasks of acid."

(You know I need to start including more male NPCs)

You fail either way. The shopkeeper is indifferent, and you need to raise her to helpful, normally it would pass, but hagging in complete adventurer is modded by the opponent's diplomacy check or mod (I forget which).

"I'm sorry it's not really my thing to reduce prices. I'm basically only allowed to give discounts to bulk purchases or the rich and famous. You'ld think that would be the people we wouldn't negotiate prices with, but that's how economics works."

She gives you the products you ask for at the listed prices unless you want to argue more.

Remember that Yumi has the merchantile background feat, 1/month she can buy an item for 75% listed price. Use her if you ever find yourself making a very major purchase that the group cannot forge themselves.

Alright. Narik, after climbing out of the pot and scurrying up behind Karsht, casts 'Message' using Secret Signs, which gives him a Slight of Hand check [roll0] to hide the casting against spellcasters.

To Karsht:
"Let me have a shot at this , too!"

And following that (We aren't in combat, right?) He steps out from behind the mind-reader and walks right up to the counter. Smiling a pointy little smile, he begins talking to the shop owner.

"Surely you can find it somewhere in you to look past the prices. Especially if we're paying the shopkeeper, not the shop owner... I think that 100 is more than enough. Hell, girl-thing, you might even settle for 500...."

"Okay explain this to me like I am 5 I understand the basic concept but I want to see how it works and any possible back lash."

Baldor says as he walks over to the table and pulls two chairs together to look over the plans with Maria.

"Giant mallet hit piece of planet underground, cause everything to shake, but if it hit the wrong way shake won't stop causing planet to go boom." Maria says trying to make it sound simple, but super over simplifying the machine.

~Taron~

You discover the Tangishima is one of the less affected countries, their job in the war was mostly to supply firearms, armors, and magical items to the war effort. However many people were killed in Miki's attacks on the supply lines. Due to the crafting being a very gender-neutral job, Tangishima is one of the few countries on the planet that does not have a shortage of men. The number of soldiers world wide is greatly reduced since Miki's fall. The world demographics are now around 70% women, 30% men, with the occasional changeling or transvestite and polygamy is rapidly becoming common. However due to the way demographics and birthing occurs, they estimate that assuming all goes well after the generation that died from Miki dies of old age, the world will rebalance itself.

The other exception to the rule of 70% women and 30% men is the country of Kenshin whose military was an amazon brigade. Due to the huge amount of deaths taken by the Kenshin foot soldiers, Kenshin is around 90% men and 10% women. Kenshin is rapidly importing females in an attempt to avoid inbreeding and the women who live in Kenshin live like goddesses for the time being. However as stated before, the world is at piece, and neither gender regardless of country is corrupt enough to attempt to take advantage of the imbalance, outside of getting a larger pick of who they take as their mate.

"It could possibly set off the volcano if you hit the wrong plate. However that's assuming the volcano is INSANELY powerful. Since a huge amount of the volcano's lava and energy will be being used to power the Tulip. The volcano would have to be powerful enough to wipe out the whole country to be set off by any sort of accident.

You can't trigger it on itself, short of causing an earthquake in the area we're in and collapsing a vital part of the base. The fail safes are magical in nature." She points to a few key parts. (Assuming they recruit soldiers)

You find the barracks, where they are doing Musket and foot solider training. The most common technique of the Tangshima military is the "shield wall" where walls of soldiers guard in a line backed up by two lines of muskets who can alter places to ensure a constant barrage of musket fire.

"Why hello sir!" A muscular man wearing a chain shirt greets you. "come to watch the training exercises?"

"The purpose is to create a wall to give the muskets time to reload. Muskets can break any armor if fired at close enough range, but they take a long time to reload. The foot soldiers hold the line to give the muskets time to do mass firing damage."

He smiles. "We'll probably never have to deploy again though. The world is devoid of evil to fight. If it wasn't just in case something happened, I'd quit my job. I can't do it though, I could never live with myself knowing my sloth let another great evil rise."

The Goblin cackles. "Not to mention the four or so hours of shielding I can provide. Or the four minute enhancements to any attacks you may be making..."

Picturing the large, en-armored man tearing through crowds of once-rival goblins (Or maybe they aren't, who cares?) Narik cackles again, approaching a level of glee that is easily, atleast, 'unbalanced'

"Just a thought. Though if you are considering, I suggest letting me do this BEFORE we enter the goblin tribe."

After a minute or two the heaving black and gold metal clatters to the ground and reveals his scarred and muscular chest and arms. Plopping his hind onto the ground he looks to the goblin and says "You may begin your work, Goblin."

Narik turns off the horse, reaching out with his gnarled green claw, the other hand holding his club straight up in the air. Muttering several archaic phrases, tracing out the symbol of his old clan, the Blood Maw Tribe, over the presented chest of the blackguard. As his voice picks up, the symbol: A bright red open maw of pointed goblin teeth, burns itself into existence on the blackguards chest, the sound and smell of searing flesh evident, but no pain caused.

Lucius technically gets a DC 15 Will save to resist but...well... I'm fairly certain he fails on purpose here. Not only do I 'Have a body part' for the purposes of scrying and divination, but I can cast any other Hex on him at a range of up to One mile, regardless of terrain.

Clouded visions of shamans and clan-seers past float through Narik's thoughts, but he shakes them off, casting a second Hex on the blackguard, the protective energies of the Ward spreading over his body from the red Scar, which flares briefly.

Lucius now has a +2 Deflection bonus to AC, and a +2 on all saving throws. This lasts until something successfully hits him or he fails a save. Narik is alerted immediately should the spell deactivate.

Then, waving his hands about and, at this point, shouting the most powerful words of the spell, he reaches out and places both hands on the fresh, bright red scar, Casting Mage Armor on him, aswell.

Mage armor adds another +4 to his AC as another deflection bonus, which, due to the nature of Wards and Hexes, stack. This +4 lasts for the next four hours or until dispelled. Shame I don't have the 'Shield' spell, too. That'd be worth another +4.

Cackling and shaking the echoing voices from his own head, Narik readjusts himself on the horse.
"We should get going. I'm sure you'd wish to test my gifts..."

"From what you've told me, what happened was that your grandfather told you that he sold his family's souls for power. Which and I asked the archdevil directly, can't be done. The person selling the soul has to be the one who owns the soul, and unless you had some kind of contract where you sold your soul to your grandfather the devil couldn't have bought it. From what I can tell your grandfather probably got dupped into thinking he would get off easy in the contact by being tricked into doing corrupt acts in the non-certain kind of pact, thinking he wouldn't get sent to Baator."

Jebel sits back. "Unless you happened to sign the contract yourself, no devil has ownership of your soul, and there is a VERY easy way to test that. Get someone to cast detect law on you. If you're lawful evil, we'll do further investigation, if you're not, there is no contract. Anyone who sells their soul to a devil has committed the supreme sin, and is lawful evil forever more."

The Letter of a thousand blood and The Reborn Pillaging Conqueror. I have come to take what is rightfully mine and rebuild the fallen Demon King's empire under my own banner. I challenge thee, Himiko, to single combat like the stories of old. Under my duty as a Blackguard I must offer you the right to submit now and avoid bloodshed. Otherwise it will be me and my axe against you. Let the Nine Hells have mercy on your soul." His speech resonates with his darker side, a cold edge to it that would unsettle lesser folk.

You receive 1200 xp (Healer), and the goblins have 1200 gold pieces worth of gold, among their low quality equipment and food supplies.

Their training ground is fairly basic, a bunch of mundane and short training dummies. A few exercise areas, and hunting grounds.

You gain your first military minions.

"But he knew where he was going, and where he sent my father. Prove that I have a soul right here and right now. Ask your bosses what I would get if I sold my soul. Since you can't sell what you don't have what better way to test this theory."

Dumbfounded and impressed by MOST of the display, the Greenskin Witch finally manages to squirm out of the saddle. He cackles quickly at the thought of fellow goblinoids, and looking over their equipment, they have quite a bit of growing before they can become a truly reckoning force.

He frowns, however, as the blackguard allows the healer to flee. She was an elf, who had gone so far to insult his entire race, a SUPREME, noble goblin race, by commanding them. An ELF. Not to mention that her escape would do little but cause problems in the future.

"Lucius. Oh mighty 'Axe of the black'?[/endsarcasm] You cannot seriously be considering letting her run, can you? Bah! Chase her DOWN!"

He snarls angrily, thoughts of an elf running a goblin camp beyond comprehensible. "You!" he snarls, club jabbed toward the largest nearby hobgoblin. "Do you have dogs? Wolves? Attack Pigeons? Anything?" He cackles to himself again: attack pigeons. Add THAT to the to do list.

"Get your fastest men and best hunting teams. We are not letting her escape. Taking orders from an elf. Disgusting..."

He reaches into his robes and pulls out a scarred, pitted, unnatural piece of dark-wood, with viscous slits ripped through to form a crudely decorated mask. Strapping it onto his face and dropping the hood, he adds one last thing: "Chase her down. This is the first of many hunts."

Then, unless Lucius 'sees the light' (HA, IRONY) and chases her down on horseback, or unless the goblins provide riding animals, he runs off into the woods after her, prepared to take the she-b**** down.

"The fact that you're walking and talking to me if proof you have a soul, if you were a soulless being you wouldn't be able to think for yourself, you'ld act purely on animal instinct. Like a dog, or a bear.

Let's see here...the standards are usually as follows. If you just want gold, I can give you 60% of your net worth for your soul, if you want power you'll be granted similar boosts of knowledge and power for your soul, of course you can combine the two...of course given how much whining you're doing about not having a soul you seem oddly active to sell it, oh well I'm not complaining, anything to keep Fierna off my back."

We have reason to believe that it was called to this realm, but that brings up just as many questions as answers...if Ragsmuena is in the material plane, why hasn't it destroyed it already. What is stopping it?"

She ponders. "We are considering the possibility that Ragsmuena was bound by Miki's magic, if you come across a being in one of Miki's ruins sealed by truespeak ruins, do NOT release it. It would destroy all of reality possibility, and I think we both don't want that."

"Hunting Parties! Fall Back to the Camp!"

Exasperated, Narik calls off the search. The trail died at the human, and no 'Healer' he'd ever heard of had access to powerful disguise magic. Besides, from the sounds of their conversation the Big Black Guard had already brought her back to town and presumably claimed another soul for Baator.

Sighing, the witch pulls off his mask and stares at it, thinking how much a pity it was that it hadn't seen blood. Putting the mask into his pack, he works his way back through the woods into the camp. As the hunting parties also arrive, he surveys the new 'troops'. Hobgoblins, the lot of em it seems.

He shows you around the camp, the hobgoblins seem fairly well trained at their art, it's just clear that they're out gunned by the Tangshima muskets, and have no real funding to work with. They're getting by, but they're not making any real process.

I'm known as Narik Bloodmaw, of the Bloodmaw clan from a half-frozen swamp far to the north of here. If you have any wounded, or anyone in need of spiritual advisement, I will aid them eagerly."

"Well then..." Sneers the goblin as he exits the apparently empty tent. "Let me be the first to say it: Welcome to Clan Bloodmaw."

OOC:
*Please stand by for a word from our 'Sponsers', Lee and Jebel. *
It was late and I was tired. Seemed like a good spot for cliffhangey commercials.

"I want your hunting parties sharper than I saw tonight. You're quick, but you could be quicker. Guard duty and training is going to be doubled at the least. I'll do what I can to acquire finer armaments for this camp, but until then if anyone has any suggestions as to where to raid or scavenge, My twisted green ears are open..."

Eying the camp, hopefully having the attention of more than a few Hobgoblins, Narik smirks again, a deep, pointed sneer that pulls his mottled skin taut.

"And as the newly appointed spiritual leader of Clan Bloodmaw, I have a single decree: Your women look lonely and your children scarce. Tonight, warriors hunt till dawn. Those that return with food will be treated to feasting and much deserved, uh, 'accompanied rest'. Those that return without food will be re-assigned to a more fitting duty. Those that fail to return at all aren't worth missing! " He holds his club up over his head, thrusting it further upwards to punctuate each sentence.

"I'll be heading to Tangeshima for any weapons I can get my claws on. Expect my return soon enough. Times are turning for you all, my newest children. Times look bright for our proud peoples, and grim for those in our way!"

Cackling to himself (And hopefully to some combination of cheers and applause from his audience) The goblin, as promised, turns and walks out of the camp, hood drawn up over his head again, dark vision lighting his way. Hopefully, before Tangeshima is any larger than a smear on the horizon the Hobgoblins' mass night-hunt should be evident.

The Lackey Affliation is at 1 out of 2 capital and 1 scale.

It will take 1000 gold pieces to boost it to 2 out of 2 capital.

If the affiliation spends a number of weeks equal to twice it's scale at maximum capital (2 times scale), it will increase it's scale by 1.

Looking around again, he shrugs. "I'm surprised he hasn't been marching around with his new trophy: Either her head on a pike or...well... The pike joke is obvious enough."

He escorts you into the questioning room and lets you sit down to talk to him. Another guard walks in and says. "We're done questioning the changeling. The only way to charge this guy, would be to hit him with disturbing the peace. Technically taking over a goblin tribe isn't illegal so long you don't DO anything with them."

"What about the Demon King army resurrection thing she was talking about? Shouldn't that merit investigation?"

"We found the shard she was talking about, our detect magic didn't pick anything up, for all we know he found a piece of rare metal and bluffed her." (Artifacts often do not have magic auras).

"So what's the conclusion? Let him go?"

"A warning probably...but he's not a citizen, there's the problem..."

"Ah so in that cause it's a night in the jail cell while we run background checks and such...and maybe file the citizenship if he approves and they have the funds."

"Put him in the cell next to the girl who cause that riot. He'll probably love to hear her story. It'll keep him entertained for the night at least."

They turn to you guys. "That's all we can really do. Whatever you told that changeling don't do it again, she's freaked out, and the Captain seems to trust her. Something about "sanctified magic". If you'll come with me Sir. It'll only be for a night while we check everything over."

She smirks at you. "You can call me Holo. I'm shall we say...a connection of sorts. You can meet all kinds of useful people in jail. Took over a goblin tribe yo say? Not bad, but they're useless if you want to do anything besides beat people up. If you can construction you go kobolds, but they're pretty useless in cities. You need trained rogues if you want to survive in a cityscape on the "supply" side of crime." She laughs and giggles. "Be right back." It was rather hard for Lucius to keep track of things when his mind just kept wandering to what he saw before. He glances at the Demon in the other cell before scooching as far away from it as possible. He didn't need to further dwell on that, not to mention all the horror stories he'd heard in prison being amplified by a demon.

Heck, at this point he thought all the gods and beings of power just sat around at a great big cofee table to discuss how to best torture Lucius before settling on throwing women in positions of power over him that he likes. Minor Image function of Cloud the Mind. Will save DC of 17 to disbelieve (can only make the save it they actually interact with it (touch, smell, taste, listen, etc) no save for just seeing it). Must make the save each round until they fail.
Diplomacy [roll0]
Bluff [roll1]

HAH! Using that ability for the first time.
(So much for that)
Karsht looks around quickly for witnesses and says in a strained tone "Quickly, cover her body and wrap it up in a rug or something. We can take it with us to prevent them from raising or interrogating her body.

Okay so I am in a church and just murdered her. I grab her body and go look for an empty grave to dump the body into.

"Umm she is dead. There is not really any chance of us tricking her."

Edit: Unless we want to go back so we can actually do something with this. If the DM is okay with that. But then again I am okay with just blasting until she is nothing more than dust.

You could blast until there was just dust, but remember you're on a time limit. Anyone have a portable hole or backpack, or bag of holding?

(Like I said, wrap her in a rug and carry her out. Then we can use speak with dead on the corpse to learn some info, and then have the goblin melt it with acid or something to prevent resurrection.)

So we go with Karsht's plan wrap it in a rug and leave. I assume that he is going to be using illusions to help with our escape.

Damn right I will. All the people will see is you carrying a rug through town. Or a sack of potatoes.

Okay we get the body out of the church and a decent way towards the gate then I go and get the horses then we get out into the forest. Correct me if I am wrong.

Works for me.... Now to begin the defiling of the body...

Narik, having waited outside the temple, cannot help but cackle maniacally when hearing the sound of a body hitting the floor after Baldors attack. Running in after them, he stops where her body was. Even as the other two are lifting her and moving out, he tears a piece of cloth from his own shirt and does what he can to wipe up the blood. Any evidence is too much, and it's a shame he cannot yet hide magical auras.

Seeing as it's been only a minor amount of time, I doubt she's bled too much, so after he's done sweeping that up, he stuffs the bloodied rag into his shirt and scurries after the others.

"So," He whispers, curtly, "What are we to do with her? I say we feed her to the wolves. Or maybe I can use her to cook up something special? Hell, if we really want her to go away, we could toss her in the volcano..."

The tiny little beast grins widely, pointed teeth and constant snickering making a truly savage image, even with his hood up.

"Tempting, especially the wolf part. Since we want to destroy all evidence of her body, we should either melt her in acid or blast her into oblivion. I was thinking of the volcano but I don't want to create a trail for divination to follow to our future base of operations, and taking her home to cook has the same issues."

Thinking to himself as he walks, karsht continues "Well... I guess we could do a bit of both. Lets go out to the forest and cut her body up to feed to the animals. We might be able to attract a couple of Worgs for you to talk to, and it will make it easier to blast the body into nothingness if there is only scraps left."

Narik's eyes light up at the thought of encountering Worgs. Intelligent wolves, stronger and larger, that he could actually converse with. Maybe now, with a fresh corpse, a Charm Hex, and some help, he could acquire a new 'friend'. As a child, he had been told of great, talking wolves, but where his clan was, none seemed to exist.

"Yes. In the very least, any diviners trying to track her will see little pieces running in several directions. Hell, if we play this right, it could look like she was just attacked by wolves and eaten. There's no evidence in the temple besides a magical aura, and with the other wards there it shouldn't stand out too much..."

He stops a moment, nearly doubling over with suppressed laughter. He had seen the wolves, though none that seemed to talk, and it wasn't until recently that he had learned his new Charm. Still, though, he had hope. Perhaps bringing a mind-reader along could lead to some progress?

He quickens his pace, clearly anxious and excited to either mutilate the body or find the wolves. Those that know him don't need to think twice to know which action would excite the maimed little goblin: Both.
