You have time to establish things and do what you want. You basically have a week's worth of buff time/rp/head start compared to the other people. So do what you want but keep the collateral damage to a minimum. Traps/ambushes/whatever are fair game though.

Sonozaki Akira

The handle turns, and the door opens. Into the room steps two figures. One is a dark haired man of medium height in a white shirt and black vest, with a slowly turning monocle-esque device on one eye. The other is a short blue hair girl with a green sundress and wide straw hat. She gives you a wide, happy smile.

The taller of the two you recognize as Sonozaki Akira, head of the Sonozaki Corporation. The short child is unknown to you, however.

"Hello there Kitra-dono." Akira nods his head to Kitra with a small, knowing smile at the reports on her desk. He reaches into a pouch at his side and pulls out a small amulet and tosses it to you. The chain is thin, but made of a mithril/adamantine alloy, and the pendant is of an infinity sign, half bright silver, half blood red. "Here, you might need it for the upcoming Temporal Convention. Intelligence has it that there might be an attack during the Convention, so I'm passing these out for protection."

catching the amulet with her clawed hand Kitra nods silently. Kitra had always been a rather intimidating figure, Born albino with hair as white as snow, and eyes the vibrant shade or red that most see only in witnessing bloody deaths. Her skin had also been turned a ruddy shade of grey by some sort of magic on the battlefield. (Everyone knew there was too much of it to be good for anyone.) Dark cloths wrapped around her covered most of this Beyond a small gap of cloth over her eyes.

Idly she clicked the amulet between the metal plated finders of the renown claw that had killed an unkillable man with his own weapon. "I don't suppose you have decided to reconsider your options and hire some faithful members of CUP after all? You do know that we have a surplus of labor in these times and every little job helps..."

"Although if you put it in terms of jobs..." he mutters, glancing off to the side. "I suppose I could hire some to guard the portals that we'll be using to transport attendees to and from the Convention. At least that way the place will actually look protected..."

Good, good... I would still advise more for an event of this scale, but I can hardly convince you otherwise... So would you like those to be paladins, common-folk, or trained guards?

OOC

Figured. Kitra is a bad lair. :smalltongue:

You can tell that Kitra seems to care about getting jobs for her soldiers, and that averting scocial anarchy is at least part of it, but she certainly seems to be keeping her part in keeping them fed and employed. So far there are plenty of jobs that could have fattened her own pocket that she's passed on to the mercenaries that believe in her, though at the same time she is rather mocking and sarcastic in her manner.

"Trained guards would be preferable. Paladins may send out the wrong message to some of our less than holy attendees, and common-folk would send an even worse message that we don't have skilled defenses."

He pauses for a moment, then raises an eyebrow and gives Kitra a wry smile. "I suppose this is the part where we haggle over the payment? Name your price, then."

Denzen Duvaria
Castle in Nysa, Throne Room

Kneeling before the vacant throne, Denzen says his prayers before rising to take his seat. He settles onto the throne, a paragon of gnoll-kind with dust brown fur and piercing yellow eyes, draped in the fine garb of his position and wearing an ornamental axe at his side. Before him, citizens of Nysa enter slowly, forming a line to make their pleas in the audience with the king.

The throne room is warded against teleportation, but if any see fit to visit him other than his own people, they are ushered in by a tall gnoll in an important-looking black and silver suit, who introduces them to the Prophet-King of Nysa.

OOC: Sonozaki Corporation/Atriol
The two terms "Sonozaki" and "Atriol" are often incorrectly used as interchangeable. They are not. The former refers to the military/commercial company, while the latter is the civilization.

There are more rumors than fact about both, but there are a few consistent facts.*They are extremely powerful and well-supplied, and*seem to be able to do quite a bit with impunity.

They have also developed and released a wide scale communication phenomenon known as the PsiPhone. Due to the cost (200 gp) only the nobility and adventurers can consistently afford them.

Byss is naked and carrying only that crystal disc which is non-magical. A knowledge check would identify it but if I say which one people will immediately metagame what it is.

You may not of heard of Byss Gerta but most soldiers and mercenaries have heard fairy tales and stories by campfire of a mighty warrior said to be stronger than a god called "the fist of the earth", not many people know that the beast of legend and the centaur before you are the same person but I think most PCs with the kind of skill ranks we have would.

The girl giggles at the bear, then bows to you. "Well, if we knew your location well enough to send you an invitation to the Temporal Convention, it stands to reason that we know your name, yes?"

She smiles knowingly, and, for a second, seems far older than she appears. But then her innocent visage returns, and she chirps, "Ah, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Furude Yukari, of the Sonozaki Corporation!"

"We've recently received some intelligence that there may be an attack during the Convention, so please, take this amulet. It will protect you to some extent during your week in Ostia."

She gestures to the side, and a small hole opens in the air. An amulet floats out of it and over to you. The chain is thin, but made out of a strong mithril/adamantine alloy. The pendant hanging on it is in the shape of an infinity sign, half bright silver, half blood red.

To the bear, she smells like a young, blue-haired girl in a green sundress.

You can't see anything unnatural about her. She appears to be, for all intents and purposes, a young, blue-haired girl in a green sundress. However, your true seeing seems to wavers slightly.

Make a caster level check of DC [roll0] for more information.

Despite the fact that you are one of the few (read: the PCs) who know any significant information about the Sonozakis, you have never heard of a Furude Yukari, although her voice does sound vaguely similar to the insane laughter that often preceded a Sonozaki invasion during the War of Ages... Denzen Duvaria
Throne Room, Castle, Nysa

The gnoll king tips his head curiously at the sight, unused to seeing human children around this area. And unsupervised, at that.

"Hello, child. Do I presume too much that you are a representative of the Sonozaki Corporation?" He catches the amulet in one clawed hand, examining it. "I can provide more security if necessary, but what sort of attack are you expecting?"

Common knowledge and visible equipment:
Nysa is a relatively new nation that has sprung up within the last few decades, a theocratic union of the previously divided and constantly warring gnoll tribes.

Denzen wears the clothes of royalty and the gloves and hooded cloak of the Prophet-King, which is similar to the garb the clerics among Nysan society wear. The axe he wears at his side glows with faint magic, but not much. The only other magical aura coming from him originates from the miniature silver shield hanging against his chest at the end of a chain necklace. The shield is gray-silver and etched with obsidian, a black chevron engraved near the top and a golden strip of lightning underneath. Knowledge Religion would identify more about this.

"Nevertheless I cannot accept this trinket from you, my faith forbids me from such vanities. Maybe instead you could tell me what the device does and what sort of attack you are expecting?"

The Lord commander had looked like he was enjoying the sparring session, but it had suddenly turned around, when he smacked him in the back of the head with the flat of Grimnir. When that happened the jubilant smile was wiped clean, and intensity and focus returned.

The crowd of War-Clerics was jeering and hooting, all manner of discipline lost, for the moment.

The ring was a large circle of green flame, the floor a checkered stone, black and white in honor of her Red lady. It was enchanted to even out the odds when two people dueled, allowing masters and apprentices to use skill of blade instead of raw power. It leveled the playing field, but when you're dueling a demigod, such things still did not help.

But Aegir enjoyed it, and so to did Felix, the Lord commander.

It had been going on for some time, and sweat beaded down the naked torso of Aegir's dark stony chest.

But it then ended as the Deputy Commander, Jaron Xil, entered the dueling chamber. Something must have been up, and so the duel must end.

Heaving his great battleaxes, he launched an up down assault against the commander, a standard routine for a dual wielder, causing the man to curse and instinctively shift his stance and defense to cope with it, opening the man up to the more deadly crescent hammer strike. Two strokes in he broke his momentum, rolled to the right with lightning speed and swung both weapons from both sides at the commanders knees and neck.

The Commander saw what was coming at him at the last moment and managed to parry the neck chop while jumping into the air to avoid the ankle swipe, he managed it, but put himself into an open position for the backswing, both blades met the man in the chest, the 'hammer' connected and sliced him in two.

The Lord-Commander disappeared in a puff of smoke, appearing next to the Deputy-Commander with a wry grin.

"You always get me with that!" he declared with a finger pointed towards Aegir.

Shaking the magic off, the ring puffed out at his will "Aye, I do." he said, with a big grin "But you fall for it, every time! whats a man to do?"

Shaking his head the man smiled and turned to his Deputy "News my Lord?"

The Deputy-Commander was a rueful man, loving War almost more than he did the Rule of man. Or simply put, rules. He was the lawmaker in the Citadel, and most of the students had dubbed him the 'grand judge'.

He nodded to the Lord-Commander "Yes Milord, a message has come for his Liege" he said pointing towards Aegir.

Aegir pointed to himself "Me?" he said incredulously, as if he was no one.

Lord Jaron showed no change in emotion "Aye"

Shaking his head at his stoic Deputy, Aegir laughed out loud, making a booming sound in the chamber "I shall take it in my chamber." With that, he tossed both axes in the air, caught them and walked out towards his room.

The legend of Aegir is known far and wide, a Goliath who championed Her Lady in Red (the Red Knight), gained sainthood and became her Ordained Champion gaining godhood through sheer force of will and experience. He recently opened a War academy dubbed the Citadel and recruited those men and women with like mind.

He listens as he moves inside and pours himself a decanter of wine, offering some to his abrupt guests. He waits for them to finish,

He waves off the question, "You do have sufficient protection at this convention correct? I am more than willing to provide some assistance, be there in a completely professional manner of course. Ah, little Yukari! How nice of you to drop by!" Plucking one of the rare fruits that only grow from this valley from a nearby branch, Sehrul offers it to her. "Would you care for some fruit?" Not many have tasted have braved the peaks to sample them, but the last time I was away from here I have heard nothing but praises for these sweets."

"I apologize for Titania's absence. She's currently away on one of her...excursions. But I assume that finding her would be well within your clan's means. I am sure that at least some of your chroniclers would be interested in her accounts of her...unusual time period. Spirits only know if how much the tales about her have warped and changed from her own time until I heard them as a young boy. I wouldn't even dare to imagine how much they have changed more since my childhood until the present day."

Yukari can really feel the weight of these words since local legends regarding the "Man in the Mountain, Sehrul Rahman" have, in one form or another, been circulating for at least several millennia.

Swooping in Kitra takes the bottle emptying the remnants into her glass. "No wine for children-drones." Snatching the other amulets from the air Kitra continues "...and no odd trinkets for the band."

Out from the office, and standing before her recruits she somehow seemed more dangerous. Those albino eyes no longer looked albino, but those of inhuman creatures that walk the night. "Tell me." she begins her voice a dark purr. "Why didn't you simply conclude our business in the office rather than interrupting my lunch break?"

"Quite right, Kitten." Jena nods in thanks to Kitra. "And children should learn not to interrupt where they're neither needed, nor wanted." She shakes her head. "It's quite sad really, parent's used to teach their kids right."

At Jena's words, Yukari raises her eyebrow incredulously and snorts. "Oh please. If anyone's a child, it's you."

Unless it's to her benefit not to, Yukari will always act as if everything is happening just the way she planned. So it's not as if her behavior will change, she'll just adapt instantly to the new situation.

"But, we do have some information. We know that it will originate from the Outer Planes. Thus, one can assume it will come from one of our enemies, likely Mechanus or the Nine Hells, or even a particularly militant faction of Celestia."

She then stops, glancing at Kitra. A barely suppressed smile appears on her face. "...Kitten? That is so cute and disturbing at the same time."

Temporal Convention, Perlucidum Ostia

The long awaited day of the Convention has arrived. One way or another, you arrive at a single large platform, floating above the clouds and filled with milling beings of all shapes and sizes. Elves and dwarves, faeries and dragons, angels and devils and demons, even a few cosmic horrors, have come to attend this Convention. Uniformed figures (they appear to be male and female humans, but they do seem a little... off) dart about the area, marking in those who have arrived, and checking them in for customs.

After some time of this bureaucratic mess, the uniformed officials, apparently finished with their business, depart and take their positions at the edges of the platform. A figure steps up to the front, and his visage is broadcast to several screens scattered around the border, his voice booming through multiple sound amplifiers. All recognize him as Sonozaki Akira, the leader of the Sonozaki Corporation, and the legendary "Undying Scientist" from the War of Ages.

"Welcome, welcome, beings from across the multiverse, to the First Temporal Convention! For those who may not know me, I am Sonozaki Akira, your host for these seven days. This week, you shall be able to meet those whom have never before seen or been seen in the cosmology, you will see strange and wondrous devices from exotic locales, and you will see a preview of the world of the future, a place of post-scarcity, post-need, of intelligence and understanding."

He pauses, and glances around at you. In a somewhat softer voice, he continues. "Most everyone here is a veteran of the War of Ages, that terrible thing that killed so many, and forever changed the status quo of this world. It is very likely that you may see a former, or even current, enemy of yours. I ask you, do not attack or provoke them. This is a place for peace and understanding, for a self-sustaining society cannot be run off of aggression and impulse. We will be enforcing this total mutual cease-fire very strictly."

In a more cheerful tone, he claps his hands and gestures widely. "But enough of that! This is a time for exploration and new things, new ideas! Enjoy yourselves! Any information you need is likely already on your invitation; any more questions or comments may be directed to me, or any of our officials scattered around the grounds."

He steps off of his podium, and the vessel you are on descends through the clouds. Barely a quarter minute later, the barrier parts, and you can see the great city of Perlucidum Ostia. It is an intricate mass of vast floating platforms, interconnected through skywalks, gravity tunnels and portals. Small vessels fly between these structures, as metallic schools of fish, following a pattern known only to them. And in the center of it all, is a massive spire of metal and crystal and light. It stretches from the ground up, extending hundreds of stories high. It is known simply as, the Spire of Ostia. This is where you shall begin.

You estimate that the platform you are standing on will take a few minutes to descend to the point of debarkation.

These few minutes gives you a chance to speak to Atriol officials, Akira, and/or each other. Enjoy the RP time. :smallcool:

Geography of Ostia
The actual Convention will be located outside, on the various platforms around the Spire. Your living quarters and the various other amenities are inside the Spire. All of this is very much freeform, due to the sheer complexity of the event.

The area below Ostia is a mostly flat grassy plain, with scattered trees and bushes. Upon closer inspection, the trees and bushes are actually arranged in a subtle circular pattern. Beyond this is a tall mountain range, jagged and icy at the peak, yet glittering gloriously in the sunlight.

As for the wards, you can tell from the faint, sporadic shimmers that they cover a large dome, extending out to the far side of the mountain range. They don't seem to be doing anything to you now. For any details on these wards, you will need a detect psionics-type effect and a psicraft check.

The old monk would travel around taking in what each spire has to offer before finally getting to spire that had duels being held and found a spot to watch thinking it might be interesting to watch to see what the generation after his own had produced. He would sit cross-legged looking at each person and wait to see what they can do.

Dodoran laughs at being picked up and swung around by the inhumanly strong mercenary, but slides out of her grip. Stepping up, the paladin takes a seat, seeming completely oblivious of the fact that he is sitting on thin air. Suddenly, a massive lion appears beneath him, complete with a saddle, a bridle... and claws larger than Kitra's head. Dodoran's sword flies to his hand, transforming into a glowing lance of pure light.
"I would prefer not to have to go through dieing, thanks. And although I don't mind being a weapon, I think that Archax here would feel a bit left out."

As Jena's blade travels closer, Akira mutters with a grin, "Indeed we shall." At each of the first three strikes, he seems to reposition himself instantly on the other side of the sword, which passes harmlessly through his former position. On the fourth, however, your blade arcs towards him again, but, at the last second, the target you see is no longer Akira, but your own back. Two portals have formed, one in front and one behind, so that your final attack has targeted yourself.

Light arcs across Akira's body for a moment, and Jena brushes the eyepiece away, letting it fall to the ground as the other pieces of technology shut down or fall away.

"You don't mind playing fair, do you?" She whispers in his ear, before darting around to catch his lips in hers.

Hope you don't mind the tech falling off, it's thematic effect more than anything else. If you do, I can change it.

A minute more of being dragged along, and Yukari stops at the central plaza of the floor, where a medium-sized tree stands. But upon closer inspection, one can clearly see that it is exceptional, having been born of magic and life, its veins slowly throbbing with light.

Walking up to it, Yukari taps lightly on the trunk, whispering into it. From inside, a creaking noise begins to issue, and a young boy with short red hair, appearing no older than ten, steps forth in a homespun tunic and pants. He smiles at you. "Hello, Byss Gerta. "..." Negitas stares back, curiously, before muttering to Yukari. "You never told me she was this paranoid..."

Yukari just shrugs.

You know that the tree is a Tree of Arcane Fate.

The tree (which is always either a cherry tree or an ash tree. The reason for this is a secret known only to a select few) suffuses the earth around it with magical essence. Anyone born within a mile of the tree is much more likely to become a sorcerer, their fate infused with the kiss of the arcane. Wizard's towers are likely to appear by such trees, merely by coincidence. Perhaps the wizard likes the look of the landscape, or the sight of cherry blossoms. Anyone who chops down the tree is immediately enlightened to the true nature of reality, and most likely discorporates into pure nirvana. After one hundred years of growth, the tree bears a fruit. Anyone eating it becomes a god, but at great cost, though each pays their own price.

Negitas is not the same thing as Yukari. You can tell that he is the spirit of the tree, after a fashion, the arcane energies of the tree having coalesced and spontaneously granted itself sentience.

She shakes her head at his compliment. "I'm not just a pretty face, Akira. And as you might have noticed a while back, I do have ways of dealing with things most don't notice. She stares out of the room for a moment, as if seeing far more than what the window showed. "It's wonderful to watch though." She turns her head, eyes almost...wistful...as they meet his. Quickly replaced by a faint, sad smile, he says softly, "It seems, then, that we've both had rather difficult pasts. She shakes her head, her gentle smile never wavering. "Yet if you face those moments, instead of fleeing them, you free yourself. What is to come is what will be, but you shape that future with the actions of the moment. And if you face the dark places, let go of the pain and loss and fear inside, you find a peace that - if all shared it - might be the end of conflict as it exists in reality." She shrugs, then tilts her head at him, blinking innocently.

"And here I am pouring secrets into your hand, and you've not seen fit to offer in return?" She smiles - truly this time - and shakes her head alike to a mother with an unruly child. He glances over at her with a regretful smile. I want to face it, to finally accept my darkness. But there's something stopping me. I don't know what..."

Smiling back at her, he tilts his head to one side with a raised eyebrow. "Ah, secrets are the true currency of this world, yes? But I suppose you have more than earned some from me." He hesitates for a second before speaking, his eyes gazing off into the distance.

"I had to kill my mother." He lets out a breath before continuing. "It was in the middle of the war. We had a doomsday device, of sorts, so that if things on the planet got bad enough, we could destroy the entire place. Anyway, my mother was one of those who had worked on it, and knew the key to activate it, and she had been possessed by one of our enemies. We managed to disrupt its hold on her for a few seconds, and in those seconds, she ordered me to kill her. I-" He stops, takes in a deep breath, and finishes, "I did it. I just... killed her..."

Jena listens as Akira speaks, projecting only an accepting silence until he finishes. Her eyes flick up again to his, seeming to look straight through him, and she reaches up. A soft hand traces his face in a gentle caress, and her tone is almost apologetic. "I did not say that you must accept your presumed darkness, child. I only said that letting go of it could free you of the pain that torments you every waking moment - and many of those in slumber."

Her hand slips, curling around the back of his neck and drawing him down beside her so that their eyes are level. "Your enemies must have been truly terrible for you to have been forced to create a device so preemptively destructive." She sighs, the outgoing breath soft, and blinks slowly. "There are many things I could tell you Akira. That it was not your fault. That your mother could not have wanted to live like that - or after what she might have done in thrall. But I won't." She shook her head. "You know the reason, even if it lies buried in your mind; surrounded by fear that fights with a self-destructive fury against the possible truth of my words. Some say your mind tells you one thing whilst your heart tells you another. In my experience a truer answer would be to multiply the amount for the mind by twelve - at least. And do not even consider that of the heart.

"Those numbers aside though, somewhere deep down you fear not that it was wrong to kill your mother - in fact part of you I think wishes that I would tell you such so you could respond with indignation and anger - but that it was, as you fear to believe, right. For if you were right in your choice, then the responsibility lies with you. If you were wrong, then she was wrong - so the blame can be attached to one other than yourself." She squeezed his shoulder once.

"The mind is a funny thing, Sonozaki Akira. Powerful beyond belief, but fettered by self-doubt, anxiety, and the crushing fear of taking responsibility - true responsibility - for all that you have done in this life. For if that responsibility is yours, then all your failures are down to you and you alone - or so many (you among them I believe) believe. The truth is quite different. But..." She sighed again. "That truth is not something that I can teach. Would that I could, but I cannot."

"Yet you have given me a secret, so I ask you if you would be willing to trade if I gave another, if only to learn some small measure of the other. My past is a long, painful book. But it is not without joy, and there is light at its end. Would you care for me to read a passage in exchange for another from yours?"

So, that would be a natural 20 on the Profession (Counselor) roll I think...

You appear in the middle of a large lobby, relatively empty. The walls and ceiling are made of a finely crafted marble, interspersed with artistic swirls of various metals. The few occupants spare you and your entourage a cursory glance, then take little notice of you.

To one side, a set of stairs lead down into what appears to be a very lively area, likely the Convention itself. He leans in slightly and murmurs, "And as for your sister and this gift, perhaps there was a reason that you were sent here. We would not exist without a purpose. It is purpose that creates us, purpose that drives us, and finally, purpose that destroys us. But finding this purpose is difficult. I certainly haven't. Have you?"

"And another secret from me, then?" He asks, with a grin. "Very well then, Jena-chan."

"I wasn't always a vampire, as I am now. I was born a faerie, actually, in what here would be called the Underdark. That was a long time ago. I was spirited away by a vampire and through some dark ritual, was transformed into her servant, despite my fey blood." A small cut appears on his finger, and he mutters, "Well, lack of blood, now. She shrugs. "Our people had always had some ability, but my sister...she was something else. I think you would have liked her." She quirks an eyebrow. "She was - I believe - the first member of our race to actually start delving into the secrets of our gift. Perhaps it was folly - considering the reaction to me - but I think not. I think rather that...well." She shakes her head.

"I found my purpose a long time ago, willingly and in full knowledge of its cost." She says finally, a single finger painting patterns in the air above them. "The gift I was given was an...understanding more than anything else. A way of looking at my abilities, and that of others, and was quite unique. And I have made it my life's work to complete that understanding." Her finger traces strange letters on the edge of the pattern, before moving to its heart. "Watch."

Her eyes turn sad though, at mention of her sister. "Even if the doorway could be re-opened, I doubt that you would have more than a passing glimpse of her before she was slain." She says finally. "She tapped a power that the Gods of our universe had never intended to be controlled. Not beyond simple magics. Theory, theory was safe. But practicing such theory... She shook her head. "That was a death sentence, passed down from the Highest in fear that the gift of Silver granted to my people would be let us steal their power away. And in giving me the understanding she did - even fragmented - we defied them beyond their paltry ability to forgive."

Her hand turns under his, squeezing gently. "But in the end, she did the right thing. And whilst I know she would like you, if she was to come here, now, I might be forced to take her somewhere far away: where she could be safe from all those who would wish to take her understanding by force - and where you might be safe from her." "Regrets and goals are purpose. And it is purpose that creates us, purpose that connects us, purpose that guides us. Without purpose, we would not be here." Miyoko smiles at Kitra, her eyes glittering with amusement.

"What have I to regret? Much. I suppose my primary regret is killing my beloved's family. Yuki-kun has forgiven me for that yet." She laughs dryly, with a hint of of sadness. "Ah, but quantity is not everything, yes? You may have killed more, but those who died by your hand at least were allowed to travel to their respective afterlives. Those I killed... I didn't just kill them," she whispers . "I utterly destroyed their souls."
