Burst of Strength
Level: Arcane 1; Components: V; Casting Time: 1 Swift Action; Range: Personal; Duration: 1 round or until discharged; Saving Throw: None; Spell Resistance: No

The caster momentarily gains great strength. The caster adds a +2/level competance bonus to a single Strength or Strength-based skill check (max +10).

Me like. Unless it includes attack rolls (I don't think, reading it, that you meant it to), in which case it's overpowered. I'd even give it a slightly longer duration; maybe 1 round per level or until discharged.

Hurrah, no more annoying the party Rogue about a locked door. Now I can annoy the mage, and bash it open.

Ooh, good one! I agree that allowing to function for attack rolls could overpower it, but even then a +5 to attack and damage at level 5 isn't THAT great - compared to, say, True Strike or Magic Missile. Of course, most level 1 spells shouldn't be as good as those two.

The one-round duration also makes sense to me, as much for flavor as anything else.

It doesn't apply to attack rolls, only to checks, so no worries about the Wiz 1/Ftr 4 with Practised Spellcaster getting +10 to attack and damage.

Wait... if the max bonus is +10 to strength, the most this spell can do is add +5 to the skill check/ability check. Or is the maximum bonus +10 to the check (+20 Str)?

It's +10 to the check. If it were +10 to Strength, it would have an effect on attack and damage. There's no bonus to Strength at all.

No somatic components, huh? That makes it a great escape from bonds spell, and I don't really see any possible problems with it.

I would make the duration 1 round/level until discharged, personally.
