I know that others have probably fished this lake dry, but I've not done one of these before and finally finished it. I'm currently working on feats that will go with this discipline.

I'm not saying go easy, but know that I've had VERY little experience with Tome of Battle. Thanks in advance for any and all constructive criticism!

Duration: Stance
Saving Throw: Fort (partial)
Cooling food quickly to a low temperature that is relatively safe from bacterial growth is important when diseases can fight back, and THEN infect you!
This stance lowers the temperature in a 10’/ IL radius circle to freezing. All opponents in the area are slowed as the spell; and take cold damage equal to your IL each round they remain in the area. Foes can make a fortitude save (DC= 15 + Str or Wis modifier)

BUTCHER’S BLOCK
Ironclad Cuisenaire (Counter)
Level: 3rd
Prerequisites: One Ironclad Cuisenaire Maneuver
Initiation Action: Immediate
Range: Melee Attack
Target: One Creature
When an opponent would deal damage to you with a melee attack, you may expend this maneuver to make a Profession (Chef) roll (DC= Opponent’s attack roll). If your roll is higher, you negate the base weapon damage from that attack (Str mod, magic, and other modifiers still apply). You also get a free disarm attempt against that foe. The disarm attempt does not provoke an attack of opportunity.

CHIFFONADE
Ironclad Cuisenaire (Strike)
Level: 8th
Prerequisites: Three Ironclad Cuisenaire Maneuvers
Initiation Action: Full-round
Range: Melee Attack
Target: One Creature
A cooking technique in which herbs or leafy green vegetables (such as spinach and basil) are cut into long, thin strips; this is accomplished by stacking leaves, rolling them tightly, and then cutting across the rolled leaves with a sharp knife, producing fine ribbons. The technique can also be applied to crepes or thin omelets to produce strips.
Your weapon is a blur as you apply your kitchen knowledge to the field of battle. When you opponent is hit by this strike, your weapon appears to separate in to 5 equally deadly tools each of which deal their damage (base weapon damage only) to your opponent.

Initiation Action: Standard
Range: Touch
Target: Touched creature or combustible object that weighs no more than 25 lb /level.
Duration: Instant (see text)
Saving Throw: Reflex (partial)
A splash of strong liquor and judicious application of flame can add drama to any meal.
As a standard action, you cause a combustible object or a creature’s combustible equipment burst into flame, even if damp.
If the target is a creature, the initial eruption of flame causes 1d8 points of fire damage per caster level (maximum 10d8) with no saving throw. Further, the creature must make a DC 15 Reflex save or catch fire (DMG 303).
If the target is a combustible, unattended object, the initial eruption of flame deals fire damage to the object as noted above. The object catches fire and takes 1d6 points of fire damage each round until consumed or someone puts out the fire.

ENTRÉE
Ironclad Cuisenaire (Boost)
Level: 7th
Prerequisites: Three Ironclad Cuisenaire Maneuvers
Initiation Action: Swift or Immediate
Range: Touch

In formal dining, as in battle, a well-planned main course can function as a sort of gastronomic apex or climax. In such a scheme, the preceding courses are designed to prepare for and lead up to the main course in such a way that the main course is anticipated and, when the scheme is successful, increased in its ability to satisfy and delight the diner.
As Apertif except you gain 3d8 + IL temporary hit points. These temporary hit points last for 5 rounds or until they have been exhausted.

JULIENNE
Ironclad Cuisenaire (Strike)
Level: 6th
Prerequisites: Two Ironclad Cuisenaire Maneuvers
Initiation Action: Full-round
Range: Melee Attack
Target: One Creature
With a sharp knife the raw vegetable is sliced to length and trimmed on four sides to create a thick rectangular stick 6-7 cm long, and then cut lengthwise into thin (1-2 mm) slices. Stacking these slices and again cutting lengthwise into thin (1-2 mm, equal to the thickness) strips creates thin uniform square sticks. Julienne usually applies to vegetables prepared in this way but it can also be applied to the preparation of meat or fish, especially in stir fry techniques.
Your weapon is a blur as you apply your kitchen knowledge to the field of battle. When you opponent is hit by this strike, your weapon appears to separate in to 4 equally deadly tools each of which deal their damage (base weapon damage only) to your opponent.

JUST DESSERTS
Ironclad Cuisenaire (Strike)
Level: 9th
Prerequisites: Four Ironclad Cuisenaire maneuvers
Initiation Action: Full Attack
Range: Personal
Target: One Creature
Duration: See text
“If people don’t get their just deserts in life, what’s the point even bothering to do the right thing in the first place?” –James Delingpole
To initiate this maneuver, you first make a Profession (Chef) check. You then make an attack roll against your target. If the attack hits, you deal no damage; but for a number of rounds equal to your Str or Wis Mod, each time that foe takes a hostile action, they take damage equal to your Profession check.

MAD BUTCHER’S TWINE
Ironclad Cuisenaire (Strike), (Su)
Level: 2nd
Initiation Action: Standard
Target: See Text
Area: See Text
Duration: See Text

To use this maneuver, the initiator must have access to at least 5’ of rope, chain, or some other flexible cord. They then initiate a grapple. If the grapple is successful, the chain wraps around the target. Each round the monk is able to maintain the grapple; the target takes the monk’s unarmed damage. A monk can, with sufficient rope (5’ per target) perform this maneuver on a number of targets equal to his Wis modifier (to a maximum equal to his monk level) that are no more than 10’ apart. Maintaining this maneuver is a free action.
While this maneuver is in effect, you may not make any move other than a 5’ step. Additionally, you must keep one hand on your chosen binding material.

MALIGN MELANGE
Ironclad Cuisenaire (Strike)
Level: 6th
Prerequisites: Two Ironclad Cuisenaire Maneuvers
Initiation Action: Standard
Range: Melee Attack
Target: One Creature
Duration: See text
Saving Throw: Fort (partial)
"I think, for me, humor needs to be used like a strong spice - sparingly." -George Murray
As a standard action, you reach into a pouch or pocket with a pinch of hot pepper or other strong spice or mix of spices. Then make a melee touch attack. The target must make a fortitude save (DC= 16 + Str or Wis modifier) or take 2d6 points of Constitution damage immediately. In addition, those failing a second Fortitude save 1 minute later are dealt 1d6 points of Constitution damage. Those who succeed on either saving throw are nonetheless disabled by choking (treat as stunned) for 5d4 rounds.

MINCE
Ironclad Cuisenaire (Strike)
Level: 4th
Prerequisites: Two Ironclad Cuisenaire Maneuvers
Initiation Action: Full-round
Range: Melee Attack
Target: One Creature
For a true mince, the effect is to create a closely bonded mixture of ingredients and a soft or pasty texture. However, in many recipes, the intention is for firmer foods such as onions and other root vegetables to remain in individual chunks when minced.
Your weapon is a blur as you apply your kitchen knowledge to the field of battle. When you opponent is hit by this strike, your weapon appears to separate in to 3 equally deadly tools each of which deal their damage (base weapon damage only) to your opponent.

MISE EN PLACE
Ironclad Cuisenaire (Stance)
Level: 1st
Initiation Action: Swift
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: Stance
A well-run kitchen is organized for peak efficiency. ingredients that a cook will require for the menu items that he or she expects to prepare during his/her shift are arranged and organized. Recipes are reviewed to check for necessary ingredients and equipment. Ingredients are measured out, washed, chopped, and placed in individual bowls. Equipment, such as spatulas and knives, are prepared for use, and ovens are preheated. Preparing the mise en place ahead of time allows the chef to cook without having to stop and assemble items, which is desirable in recipes with time constraints
While this stance is active, you gain various abilities based on your initiator level. The benefits are cumulative. Consult the table below:
{table=head]InitiatorLevel|Benefit
1-5|Take a move or standard action during a surprise round.
6-10|Make a 2nd 5' step each turn.
11-15|As an immediate action, you may choose to act as though you had readied your action and readjust your initiative accordingly.
16-20|Trade your swift action for a move action.[/table]

PERFECT PARE
Ironclad Cuisenaire (Strike)
Level: 3rd
Prerequisites: One Ironclad Cuisenaire Maneuver
Initiation Action: Standard
Range: Melee Attack
Target: One Creature
Remove the tough outer shell to reach the tender flesh on the inside. Discard the shell, or use it for stock…
Instead of an attack roll, make a profession (Chef) check. If your check would beat the targets AC, you deal your weapon's base damage and remove one point of armor and ,if the opponent has it, natural armor bonus for every five points your check exceeded their AC.

PRESSURE COOKER
Ironclad Cuisenaire (Stance), (Su)
Level: 8th
Prerequisites: Three Ironclad Cuisenaire Maneuvers
Initiation Action: Swift
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: Stance
Saving Throw: Fort (partial; see text)
Pressure cookers heat food quickly because the internal steam pressure from the boiling liquid causes saturated steam (or "wet steam") to bombard and permeate the food. Thus, higher temperature water vapor (i.e., increased energy), which transfers heat more rapidly compared to dry air; cooks food very quickly.
A stance that really puts the heat on! While this stance is in effect, all opponents within 30’ of you take 3d6+IL non-lethal damage each round they remain in the area, and are exhausted. Opponents who make a fortitude save (DC=18 + Str or Wis modifier) do not take the damage, but are still exhausted. Creatures immune to non-lethal damage and/or exhaustion are slowed instead.

RENDER HELPLESS
Ironclad Cuisenaire [Creation], (Su)
Level: 1st
Initiation Action: Standard
Range: Close (25’ +5’/2 IL's)
Target: One object or 10’ square
Duration: 1 round per level.
Saving Throw: See text.
Edible rendering is generally carried out in a continuous process at low temperature (less than the boiling point of water). The process usually consists of finely chopping the edible fat materials (generally fat trimmings from meat cuts), heating them with or without added steam, and then carrying out two or more stages of separation.
Render Helpless covers a solid surface with a layer of slippery grease. This has the same effect and uses as the grease spell, except the save DC is 11 + Str or Wis modifier).

SALT OF THE EARTH
Ironclad Cuisenaire (Strike), (Su)
Level: 7th
Prerequisites: Three Ironclad Cuisenaire Maneuvers
Initiation Action: Standard
Range: Melee Attack
Target: One Creature
Saving Throw: Fortitude partial
It is absolutely essential for animal life, but can be harmful to animals and plants in excess. Salt is one of the oldest, most ubiquitous food seasonings and salting is an important method of food preservation.
With a successful melee attack, you deal your normal weapon damage as well as 8d6 desiccation damage (8d10 per IL for plants and creatures with the [Water] subtype).
In addition, the target must make a fortitude save (DC=17 + Str or Wis modifier) or become staggered for 5 rounds.

TEMPER, TEMPER!
Ironclad Cuisenaire (Strike) [Mind-Affecting], (Su)
Level: 2nd
Initiation Action:
Range: Touch
Target: One Creature
Saving Throw: Will negates
The word "temper" can refer (at least informally) to any time- and temperature-sensitive process (as for chocolate tempering or tempered glass), a material's thermo-mechanical history, or even its composition.
This maneuver calms agitated creatures. You make a melee touch attack against a single foe. If the strike connects, and the target fails a will save (DC= 12 + your weapon damage roll), they are affected by a calm emotions effect, as the spell.

WALK THE WOK
Ironclad Cuisenaire (Stance)
Level: 6th
Prerequisites: Two Ironclad Cuisenaire Maneuvers
Initiation Action: Swift
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: Stance
Out of the frying pan and in to the fire.
Walk the Wok is a testament to the varied temperatures that ironclad cuisenaire adepts must contend with. As long as you maintain this stance, you gain Energy resistance 30 to both fire and cold. You also act as if under the effect of endure elements (PHB, 226).

WHISKED AWAY
Ironclad Cuisenaire (Boost) [Air], (Su)
Level: 5th
Prerequisites: Two Ironclad Cuisenaire Maneuvers
Initiation Action: Swift or immediate
Range: Melee attack
Target: One creature
Duration: 1 round
Saving Throw: Fort (negates)
A kitchen is often a whirlwind of activity. For you this is true there as well as the battlefield.
Once initiated, until the end of your next turn, any opponent you strike is also affected by a gust of wind (PHB, 238) as the spell.

Just wondering, has the name "Iron Chef" occurred to you for this, or is that taken (I mean for a discipline, I know it's been used for other things, that's kind of the point)?

I did, but that name is copyrighted. Ironclad Cuisenaire, to my knowledge, is not.

I did, but that name is copyrighted. Ironclad Cuisenaire, to my knowledge, is not. That's not how copyright works. I'm pretty sure names are under trademark, not copyright (copyright is for artistic works), and even if this is under copyright this would be covered by fair use under parody.

Edit:
The extent to which a trademark owner may prevent unauthorized use of trademarks which are the same as or similar to its trademark depends on various factors such as whether its trademark is registered, the similarity of the trademarks involved, the similarity of the products or services involved, and whether the owner's trademark is well known or, under U.S. law relating to trademark dilution, famous.

I'd feel comfortable saying that a TV show and a D&D martial discipline are very different products, and that a reasonable consumer wouldn't assume that they were produced by a related source (which is what trademark protection is mostly about, to protect the distinctiveness of trademarks and avoid misleading consumers about the relations of products and services).

Point taken. I'll consider a name change if I can get this thing a PEACH or four. :smallamused:

I don't even... This is AWESOME! I love the names, I love the effects, I love the humor. This might not be fitting for every game out there, but to those that don't mind a little humor, even if implicit, this thing rocks!

Alas, I too don't have much experience with ToB in practice to have any insights about balance. I do, however, have three very minor points to make, with the promise to make more, if I get to read this in a proper computer any time soon:

- Minor typo on the dessert maneuver description: it's written desert.

- Double check the description of Salt of the Earth. Are the weak creatures supposed to take that much more damage than the non weak ones? I mean 8d6 vs. 8d10/IL is a brutal difference.

- The school could benefit from a little fluff introduction: where does the discipline come from, who were its creators, who are its main practitioners today, why and to whom do they tach it and why would they seek a life of adventure, for starters. Also, I might have missed something, but you never said which class has access to it. I'm guessing Swordsage?

Also, a little idea, if you want to expand this: why don't you do a few maneuvers based on food poisoning?

Lastly, I like the name as it is.

Somehow I expected names cribbed from One Piece ("Colliere Shoot," "Diablo Jambe," etc). Simultaneously amused and disappointed to find this is not the case.

Good stuff, tho. :smalltongue:
