View Full Version : [OOC] The Town: The Movie: The Cast!

El Jaspero, the Pirate King
2006-11-18, 08:11 PM
So...you know all those "Who Would You Cast in the OotS Movie" threads? I had the thought last night..."why not cast The Town as a movie while we're at it?"

So this here thread is for that discussion. Who would you cast as your own character(s)? Your friends? Major figures of the Town? Please be respectful. Nobody wants Macaulay Culkin playing them.

Edit: A compilation is clearly in order. I present the Town cast, in alphabetical order. Actors merely nominated are in . Please note that I am, as of now, putting in a [B]no double-casting rule. Once an actor is cast (not merely [nominated]), they're out of the running.

Death, your friend the Reaper

Only one tall enough (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angus_MacAskill)

Well, I am guessing that to fit the casting for Death one would have to not be among the living, yet be tall for dramatic effects. With a name like Angus as well, he takes the cookie.

Blood
2006-11-18, 09:09 PM
Wow, first a comic, then a book, now a movie?

Anyway...for Blood, I don't really know what her voice sounds like, so I don't know. As for the "actor" I would use my cat at home (she has the right colors in the right spots, but some adjustments would have to be made :smallwink:); she's the perfect little princess to play the part.

Cathrindir
2006-11-18, 09:41 PM
I'd have David Wenham play Cathrindir. He fits my mind's eye view of Cathrindir, and he showed his talent in Return of the King.

Bookman
2006-11-18, 09:44 PM
Absolutly Bookman would be played by the guy who played Richie Cunningham's older brother in Happy Days.

I went upstairs one day and never came down.

I think Blood would be well-voiced by Joan Cusack (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000349/). Belittling, shrill and snotty all in one package.

I might also toss out Sean Bean (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000293/) as a potential Kyrian. He's got a big presence, and can clearly play both sides of the heroic line.

AmberVael

I think Kyrian only needs a voice actor. :P

Thri-Kreen_DK

My characters a Thri-Kreen right? So it'd either be completely computer generated, with any random making words while synthesisation takes place on it, But otherwise, It'd be a guy in a costume, and specifically it'd be the guy that is generally in the henry the octopus costume.

Man, that's a tough one. A crazy, old wizard. I'd like to have Sean Connery play Destro, but that's just because I think Connery is a great actor. I don't know anyone who would fit really well.

I'd have to be very unimaginative for Death and say Christopher Lee (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000489/). Ever since he voiced Death for the Discworld cartoons, I can't imagine anyone else playing the reaper.

If he could do sarcy and slight traces of a West Country accent, then Patrick Stewart (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001772/) would have Greeny's voice down to a tee. Kratos' voice... that's harder. I really loved the way Johnny Cash (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Cash) did the coyote's voice in The Simpsons - but obviously, the cub's still young so lets give the job to Rupert Grint (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0342488/) whilse doing a Johnny Cash impression.

As for the librarian and the rogue, given their human appearances, then this young lady (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004989/) and, in a few years' time, this young man (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0962359/) might do the job admirably.

And dad would be played by Richard Dean Anderson (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000760/). Sorry, but they actually look a lot alike.

El J - I'm with you Harrison Ford - he would be perfect.

El Jaspero, the Pirate King

Who would it be for Gwen and Rain?

I've been puzzling over that one too, nothing brilliant yet. There's Cate Blanchett (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000949/) but that almost seems too easy.

But in the meantime:

I'd originally struck on the idea of Keri Russell (http://imdb.com/name/nm0005392/) as a fine Alarra, and while I still think she'd be great, Kate Winslet (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000701/) also pops up as a good candidate.

For Atreyu's voice? How about Dustin Hoffman (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000163/)? There's a real warmth and character to his voice that somehow works for me, assuming he doesn't do the full-out East Coast accent.

Rumda

i don't have any ideas of who could play Rumda to be honest, and to be fair he is just a bit part player in the town, mainly just sitting in the tavern and drinking coffee

Further thoughts:

Trog would be wonderfully voiced by Harry Shearer (http://imdb.com/name/nm0790434/), master of deadpan humor. I'm thinking whoever plays Thes needs to have both a physical presence and a sense of comedy: either Geena Davis (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000133/) or Lucy Lawless (http://imdb.com/name/nm0005128/), perhaps?

And for Gwen: sometimes life imitates art imitating life. Might I suggest Gwyneth Paltrow (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000569/)?

Keanu Reeves as Dib... maybe?

Renrik
2006-11-19, 02:19 PM
I guess the person t play me would be...

... probably whoever payed the assassin guy in The Da Vinci Code. I hate that book/movie, but the assassin guy was OK at being a creepy assassin, so it's a distinct possibility.

As for Narfang and all the other goblins, get a bunch of midgets and paint them green.

The guy who played all them umpa-lumpas?

Renrik
2006-11-19, 02:26 PM
^ Pretty much. But you'd have to get a couple of them more skinny and having tatoos for the jungle goblins like Rotclaw, and the city goblins you'd have to give an assortment of amusing east-coast accents. Of course, some would need amusing irish accents instead, primarily the ones that give the revolutionary speeches.

Well, I think he has about the right face and stature for Ilias... although it's difficult to say because the mental image I have of Ilias lacks a face entirely.... either that or he's a wolf :)

I'm not sure about Kio... strangely enough I can't remember a single asian actress.

As for Deadly, someone who can sound both funny, serious and scary, at the same time, should do. Might be hard to find.

ElJ, have you ever considered everybody's favorite addict, johnny depp? (I swear, he's an addict. My uncle is a VIP pilot.)

While Johnny played a pirate, he most definitely did not play this pirate. He's a fine actor, but not the right one for El Jaspero. I was thinking about him for someone else in town but it slipped away.

But while I'm here I'll nominate:

Fenric: I find Fenric to be one of the Town's father figures, a person who's both a leader and a caretaker, equally capable of levelheadedness and passionate outbursts. I'm thinking Tom Hanks (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000158/) for his voicework.

Indurain: I'd at first thought of Brendan Fraser (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000409/) but now I'm leaning more towards Hugh Grant (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000424/). Both have the gift of slapstick, but Hugh just has a bit more awkward classiness to him I guess.

Kantur: I'd suggest a young Michael Palin (http://imdb.com/name/nm0001589/).

Arha: She's trampy, but smart and maipulative; there's a maturity to her so the current crop of young skanky actresses is out. But how about Elizabeth Hurley (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000167/)?

Still working on Gezina.

But how about a skinny, young Danny DeVito (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000362/) for the gnome we all love to hate, Cosmo?

Xerillum
2006-11-19, 03:40 PM
As long as they're short and have a new yorker accent, anybody could be cosmo.

Kyrian

I might also toss out Sean Bean (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000293/) as a potential Kyrian. He's got a big presence, and can clearly play both sides of the heroic line.

Good choice, and I agree.

And I'd like to toss out Alan Rickman (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000614/) as a candidated for Death's voiceover. Perhaps a tad less intimidating, but more capable of that Death-flavored dry comedy we all love so.

And dangit...I had a good voiceover for Thecla but it just slipped away. Anyway, I clearly need to compile this in the first post, and will set to doing so in a moment.

I remember hearing somewhere that he would fit the roll. :yuk:

Everyone else...

Well, Solph is the only guy that I've thought to have had an actual actors voice, which would be Sean Connery. I really don't know why.

Umm... That leaves Kreph, Vilk (Ooh... I may have an idea here...), Asi, Pho, Kydo, Hom, Andro, Eri, Klaine, and Raggs. Probably Ada and Lup, too, but I haven't really used them yet.

So, once again... Any ideas, off the top of your head? Please? I'm horrible with remembering actors names and such...

It'd clearly be a CGI gig, but Kenneth Brangah (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000110/) springs to mind; I think your new avatar reminds me of him in Henry V or something.

CT - You shold be potrayed by....Hilary Swank (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005476/)

No, please follow me on this.

This movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0171804/) proves her ability to act both genders, and since the kender is gender neutral....

Sneak - Roberto De Niro (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000134/) need I say anymore?

Though if we went with your suggestion

Well. I really can't think of anyone that has a white goatee and spotted black hair.
Then I'd suggest Christopher Walken (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000686/)

For Kenyon - Charlton Heston (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000032/) because of the NRA.

Oh, and for self promoting, I would like to be potrayed by Al Pacino (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000199/)...but that's just me.

Part of Eddie Izzard's standup routine. He talks about England taking over of the world by the clever use of flags.

England sails up to North America. Colonist step out. Natives are watching.

Natives - Who the f*&$ are these guys?

Colonist begin to set up camp, and place a flag into the soil.

Colonist - I claim this land for England.

Hey, excuse me. We were here first.

Do you have a flag?

True Kender, but with the acting pool not having any actors of truly "genderless" classification, I thought she would be the best choice to "act" as you.

Or perhaps an "unknown" to play your part, so when the movie premieres everyone will be guessing just like the rest of us do everyday here.:smallwink:

2006-11-20, 01:07 PM
Renrik was canabalistic for the time we was a ghoul (after he lost his family, joined a gang, became a bandit, assassinated members of the social elite of the Northlands, terrorized the North Sea, went into hidin, contracted a strange diseas3e that turned him into a ghoul, and before he turned into he Draegoth, was sent to Carcerri, escaped, was reborn as his normal self, restarted his asassin's guild, fought off his own brother, and swore vengance by lkiling the king of the Northlands.))

Ra'Tiel would be Jude Law in either a damned heavy amount of make-up or computer generated and with a voice. He's got that quippy sort of British accent about his voice, though. Well, right now he's dead, but when he was alive and if he comes back, it's Jude Law. Think of the way he was in AI, pretty much.

Ron Perlman would be pretty much the perfect Grothak.

Aercath sings like Cab Calloway, but I honestly don't think Cab's speaking voice works. Leonard Cohen also comes to mind. One of those quasi-lounge singers with more of a tendancy towards gravel or yelling.

Rainspattered, when's created, is Tony Jaa. I haven't introduced him yet, but I am calling Jaa in advance. Tony Jaa or Bruce Lee's ghost, anyhow.

Delurking because I love movie and actor talk...I got a good laugh at the Hugh Grant suggestion and it's almost fitting, but I thought of something better (to how I see Indurain).

Brad Pitt (http://www.kidzworld.com/img/upload/article/a957i1_articlebrad.jpg) The look and smooth talking ability from Ocean's 11/12/13, and his mental behaviour from 12 Monkeys (http://www.bradpittfan.com/pics/mmo012a.jpg).

(I'd also like to say that Julia Stiles is perfect for how I see Alarra, and Dustin Hoffman rules for Llama![especially since I just saw Stranger than Fiction.] And Alan Rickman for Death!)

Umm... Have I been here long enough to even qualify for being a part of this?

Of course! Everyone is equal in Town. You're not more qualified for anything just because you've been wasting your life here for years :)

Ah, cool. Is there any person who knows a matial artist actor who doesn't mind playing a humorous roll?

Yeah, but Jet Li stopped doing movies. :smalltongue:

I don't think that matters here, I'm sure the one you choose could even be dead... so what about Bruce Lee? :)

Yeah I figured but I couldn't resist. And didn't he say he was done doing Kung-Fu epics, not all movies. Or was that just me wishing out loud.

John Lithgow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Lithgow) or Alan Rickman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Rickman) for Asgard, and Geoffrey Rush (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoffrey_Rush) as Lurch

EDIT: and (for Oskar) Who would play the Zergling? WHO!

You get a cookie for that comment alone.

Umm... I have absolutely no clue who would play any of my characters... for some reason I envision The Shadow with a (very slight) British accent.

Ok, I found the name of the original Henry the Octopus:

Kevin Spacey (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000228/) should "play" Deadly. Somehow he just fits perfectly...

blackfox
2006-12-23, 10:49 AM
Hmm... I wonder who would play BlackFox... There should probably be different actors for the voiceover of BlackFox as a fox and BlackFox as an elf, but I really don't have enough knowledge to be able to pick out actors.
Although it would be really cool if I could play myself... XD

*dusts off thread*

For BlackFox I would definitely think of Sarah Vowell (http://imdb.com/name/nm1102970/) as a voice actor. She has the perfect "bored teenage girl" voice.

Having finally watched Captain Blood (http://imdb.com/title/tt0026174/) I have chosen to recast (http://imdb.com/name/nm0001224/) El Jaspero. Can't believe I didn't think of it earlier.

Eloquent Rune? For some reason I keep thinking of Sir Alec Guinness (http://imdb.com/name/nm0000027/). Not sure why.

I might be too relatively new here, but...

Ian McDiarmid as Lord Magtok. The guy did Palpatine, so he could surely pull off another cloaked evil person, this time with disturbing cybernetic surgery on his face.

El Jaspero, the Pirate King
2007-01-14, 11:26 AM
That's a good call for Magtok, and Ian MacDaiarmid is some powerful, industrial-strength acting there.

It amazes me that I never thought up someone to play my dear friend Ceika; best I can come up with off the top of my head is Renée O'Connor (http://imdb.com/name/nm0640488/), in that she can clearly do both the swashbuckling action and the introspective, vulnerable scenes, but maybe there's someone better out there, I dunno.

Just took a look at it Jas, and while I know it's not my call, i think you made a pretty good pick there.

Captain Blood (http://imdb.com/title/tt0026174/)
Am I just overanalyzing?

Cat Blood
Ca(p)t(ain) Blood. And the difference is Pain. :smalleek:

I wish I knew more about actors. Cuz I really have no idea what Joan Cusack sounds like, Jaspero. Other than your descriptions, but I have never heard her so can't agree / contradict.

Jas...what about Elizabeth Banks (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0006969/) for Ceika? Just my thought.

How do you cast for a meatbag hating android? By picking a random name out of a hat!

I can't decide whether SWKOTOR's HK-47's voice actor, the actor for the Matrix's Agent Smith, or the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy's Battle Droid voice actor would do the ESARS line of androids best.

On second thought, forget the Battle Droids. They remind me of Episode 1, which doesn't exist.

Ridicule my taste all you want, but I liked Episode I, and Episode II, and Episode III. The guy who did the battle droid voice is Tom Sylla. Agent Smith was played by Hugo Weaving, and HK-47 ((easily the awesomest droid ever)) was done by Kristoffer Tabori. I, personally, think that either Kris or Tom would make a great ESARS.

Episode 1 didn't seem that important. It introduced some people, but its not like the galaxy was at stake. Just one little planet filled with frog-people.

Darth Maul was pretty awesome, but he was the only Sith to last only one movie. That's just pathetic. Killed off in his only movie...a non-existent movie too...

Who could play my nameless agent, SASO? He's a bit of a mix between Skywalker, Neo, and Red of the video game Red Dead Revolver (Best western game ever!)

Keri would have to be someone who can play a good small person... Yet be thin. And kickass. Cause thats Keri's way.

... Keri probably would be CG'd and voice acted by... Someone.
