View Full Version : Skill feats, for E6 with 2d10 instead of d20 [PEACH]

I'm planning on running a E6 campaign when the campaign I'm DMing ends, and was looking at making skills more reliable.

As such, skills will be based off of 2d10 instead of d20, and along with this I've been revising feats.

Skill Focus:
Benefit: Choose a skill. For this skill, when a 1 or a 2 is rolled on the skill check you may reroll that dice. You may only use this to reroll one die per skill check. You must accept the second result even if it is worse. In addition, you gain a +2 bonus to that skill.

Acrobatic/Athletic etc:
Benefit: For skills X&Y when a 1 or a 2 is rolled on the skill check you may reroll that dice. You may only use this to reroll one die per skill check. You must accept the second result even if it is worse. This stacks with Skill Focus.

So if someone has the feat Athletic and they roll 1 and 2 on a jump check then they may only reroll one of the d10s, but if they have Athletic and Skill Focus: Jump then they may reroll both dice (but will have to accept a result of 2 if both come up 1).

The aim of this change is so that specialising in a skill doesn't mean you can boost your bonus until there's such a massive disparity between those who specialised and those that don't, but that specialising means you're better but also more reliable.

Changing from d20 to 2d10 doesn't necessarily make the skills more likely to succeed, it just makes the rolls much more average, e.g. trending toward a total of 10-11. It makes taking 10 a little less beneficial and makes taking 20 quite a lot more beneficial, as 20s become much more rare (1/100 chance instead of 1/20). Just something to keep in mind.

Also, the singular of "dice" is "die".

Skill Focus seems pretty good. I'd definitely take it on a really critical skill, if my character relied on skill checks.

Your version of the +2/+2 feats is strictly better than Skill Focus, as it grants a reroll on two skills as opposed to on just one. Rerolls are usually very powerful and are not even close in power to a +2 to a skill check, even in E6.
