I've been blogging about fantasy settlements again, and I thought I might share my latest idea with the Playground. (http://running-the-game.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/fantasy-settlements-part-1-resources.html)
In short, I split goods and services into 4 groups: Magical, Trade, General and Specialist.
For each of these groups of goods, there's a different limit - I take the base limit of the settlement and adjust it.
This means that Magical goods are harder to find than cows and salt (Trade goods), and that it's easier to buy a bucket than bag of caltrops.
