A brief note on the setting: The Valx didn't exist in a campaign setting that was remotely normal. It was closer to a Psionic version of Spelljammer, really. Essentially this huge world fractured, but the space within it was breathable. Stars were revealed to be giant psycrystals, too powerful to approach directly. Ships could sail this void by using psionically tuned nets which would "catch" flows of raw psionic energy.

Anyway, I assembled the notes because I thought the Valx were pretty interesting by themselves. Enjoy!

The Valx (Large Humanoid)

http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s120/LankyBugger3/Valx.png

Description: The Valx are a very tall, thin race of vaguely insect-like humanoids. Fair of skin and possessing universally brownish hair (which ranges from an almost black to almost blond), they can be mistaken for humans at a quick glance. However, green-colored antennae sprouting from their forehead, the way their jawbones split down the center, their total lack of ears and their height make this mistake impossible up close. Their eyes are always a solid off-white, though they can see from then fine. Their hands possess four fingers, two of which are opposable thumbs. Covering their torso are growths of crystals which range from a violently bright red to a dark violet.

Culture: Valx are essentially a hive mind of individuals. Each Valx is capable of communicating with other Valx within a short distance, and it's easily possible for Valx to use one another as relay stations to talk with other Valx outside of their own direct range. However, despite this universal murmer the Valx are capable of shutting down their constant communication and can think independantly for themselves.

The Valx revere psionic energy as a living entity which binds the world together. Though they can actually see and sense psionic activity, they find it more difficult than most to actually manipulate psionic powers.

An individual Valx is capable of functioning for some time away from the hive, and don't necessarily need to speak with other Valx. However, they are used to the murmer of other Valx in the back of their minds and being away from this will begin to unnerve them after a while.

Alignment: Due to constant exposure to other Valx (and indeed, their need for it) Valx are always True Neutral and never grossly violate the wishes of their community. A Valx might disagree on a personal level with another, but will never disagree with the community as a whole.

Aging and Death: The Valx do not age as a normal creature ages. Instead, the crystals within the Valx continually grow and harden until the Valx can no longer move. When the crystals grow and harden enough, the Valx and his consciousness simply dissolve.

Valx Aging
{table]AGE|Youth|Adulthood|Middle Age|Old|Venerable|Dissolution
TIME|0-16 years|17 years|38 years|60 years|75 years|+10d4 years
AC Bonus|+0|+1|+2|+4|+8|n/a
Dex Penalty|0|0|-1|-1|-2|n/a
Con/Str Bonus|0|0|+1|+1|+2|n/a[/table]Note: A Valx does not increase in Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma as it ages.
Note 2: These figures on the table are NOT cumulative. A Venerable Valx has a Natural AC Bonus of +8, a Dex Penalty of -2, and a Con and Str bonus of +2

Racial Abilities

○ -2 Con, +2 Intelligence, -2 Wisdom: While their build is slight, the nature of the Valx makes them eager to learn, but not particularly strong-willed.

○ A Valx base land speed is 30 feet.

○ Natural AC Bonus +1

○ Automatic Language: Common. Bonus Languages: Elven, Dwarven, Gnomish.

Additionally, all Valx can communicate with one another when within 100 feet, as well as using other Valx as a relay to communicate with others further away. Valx used as a relay in this manner may listen in on the conversation. This method of communication cannot be taught or even detected by non-Valx, even other psionic creatures such as Mind Flayers.

○ Psionic Vision: Valx are especially sensitive to flows of psionic energy. They can see psionic energy floating in the air around them, when it is active. They may use the ability Detect Psionics three times per day

○ Rough Touch: The Valx normally have a poor control over Psionics and cannot manipulate them without difficulty. Due to this, a Valx have a -2 to the Save DC for any Psionic Power they use.

○ Mental Disturbance: A Valx can only be out of contact with other Valx for a number of days equal to his Wisdom score. If he does not make contact with another Valx during this time, he will become Sickened until he can re-establish contact. If he has become Sickened in this manner, he must spend one hour in a Valx community to remove this effect.

Spells or Psionic Powers which would normally remove this condition only temporarily remove the effects for 10+(Wis Bonus) minutes.

○ Large: As a Large creature, a Valx gains a -1 size bonus to Armor Class, a -1 size bonus on attack rolls, and a -4 size bonus on Hide checks.

○ Diminutive Build: The physical stature of Valx forces them to function in many ways as if they were one size category smaller.

Whenever a Valx is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as during grapple checks, bull rush attempts, and trip attempts), the Valx is treated as one size smaller.

A Valx is also considered to be one size smaller when determining whether a creature’s special attacks based on size (such as improved grab or swallow whole) can affect him. His reach is that of a creature his size. The modifiers of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject’s size category.

○ Barred Class: Psychic Warrior (see below)

○ Favored Class: Valx Warrior (see below)

○ LA: +0

Weapon and Armor Proficiency
Valx Warriors are proficient with all simple and martial weapons, with all types of armor (heavy, medium, and light), and with shields (except tower shields).

Power Points/Day
A Valx Warrior’s ability to manifest powers is limited by the power points he has available. His base daily allotment of power points is given on Table: The Valx Warrior. In addition, he receives bonus power points per day if he has a high Wisdom score (see Table: Ability Modifiers and Bonus Power Points). Certain feats and items may provide bonus power points per day.

Powers Known
A Valx Warrior begins play knowing two Valx Warrior power of your choice. Each time he achieves a new level, he unlocks the knowledge of a new power.

Choose the powers known from the Valx Warrior power list. (Exception: The feats Expanded Knowledge and Epic Expanded Knowledge do allow a Valx Warrior to learn powers from the lists of other classes.) A Valx Warrior can manifest any power that has a power point cost equal to or lower than his manifester level.

The total number of powers a Valx Warrior can manifest in a day is limited only by his daily power points.

A Valx Warrior simply knows his powers; they are ingrained in his mind. He does not need to prepare them (in the way that some spellcasters prepare their spells), though he must get a good night’s sleep each day to regain all his spent power points.

The Difficulty Class for saving throws against Valx Warrior powers is 10 + the power’s level + the Valx Warrior’s Wisdom modifier - 2 for the Valx's Rough Touch.

1st-Level Valx Warrior Powers
Astral Traveler, Biofeedback, Bite of the Wolf, Burst, Call Weaponry, Catfall, Chameleon, Claws of the Beast, Compression, Conceal Thoughts, Detect Psionics, Dissipating Touch, Distract, Elfsight, Empty Mind, Expansion, Float, Force Screen, Grip of Iron, Hammer, Inertial Armor, Metaphysical Claw, Metaphysical Weapon, My Light, Defensive Precognition,
Offensive Precognition, Offensive Prescience, Prevenom, Prevenom Weapon, Skate, Stomp, Synesthete, Thicken Skin, Vigor

2nd-Level Valx Warrior Powers
Animal Affinity, Body Adjustment, Body Equilibrium, Body Purification, Concealing Amorpha, Psionic Darkvision, Detect Hostile Intent, Dimension Swap, Dissolving Touch, Dissolving Weapon, Empathic Transfer, Specified Energy Adaptation, Feat Leech, Hustle,
Psionic Levitate, Painful Strike, Prowess, Psionic Lion’s Charge, Psionic Scent, Strength of My Enemy, Sustenance, Thought Shield, Wall Walker

Deft Touch: The Valx Warrior has worked sufficiently hard enough to overcome his difficulties with controlling psionic energy. He loses the Rough Touch racial ability and gains the feat Closed Mind.

Transference: The Valx Warrior has now mastered his class. His Favoured Class becomes the Psychic Warrior.

If he chooses to gain levels as a Psychic Warrior he combines his Valx levels in the mix as well. In effect, he essentially replaces the first five lines of the Psychic Warrior advancement from Table: The Psychic Warrior with the five levels he gains from Valx Warrior. He cannot regain the three bonus feats in any way.
