A giant bird, somehow resembling an eagle but much bigger, rises from behind the mountains. Its giant shape takes up most of the sky. With a grace one wouldn't expect from such a large being, it flies towards the horizon.

What appeared to be a tower in the distance is a life being! It turns towards you, and as it does so, a giant orb of crackling arcane might shoots from its hands. Even as you dodge, the earth shakes and several of the buildings close by collapse.

The enormous warrior rises its sword and brings it down with a force that without doubt would have killed you if it were to hit. Only by luck and quick reflexes do you manage to avoid the blade. It rises the weapon yet again, preparing to bring it down upon you a second time.

Okay, first of all; this is not an accurate conversion of the Colossi from SotC to D&D. This will rather be a set of monsters with mostly different fluff inspired by the Colossi.

I will be using the fanbase names, instead of referencing to them as 'tower colossus' 'minotaur colossus' and so on.

All feedback will be appreciated.

The Colossi of Legend:
The Colossi are beings talked only about in ancient tales and mad ramblings. Long ago, they roamed an area far from here, and their power was feared and respected. Then, one day, a man came and destroyed each of them. The purpose of these creatures, just like the man's reason to do what he did, were lost in time. No two stories tell the same. Some talk about the beings as evil constructs made to scour the earth of all that lives, and of the man as the first mortal to stand against them. Others say that the man was a tyrant who only wanted to eliminate all threats to his rule, and the colossi guardians of their world, determined to destroy all evil.

No matter what happened to them, a few people know that those colossi aren't truly dead. The energy that once gave them shape still exists, though sometimes in strange forms. Nothing is gone forever, though, and if someone had the resources and will to do it, the colossi could soon walk again.

Using the Colossi in your campaign:
As said before, powerful enough magic can bring a Colossus back. Maybe a cult tries to call a Colossus to wreck havoc upon a city or even a kingdom. Others may see the Colossi as gods, and desparately try to catch a glimpse of them. A mad wizard may even actively seek to reassemble a colossus in order to harvest spell components from it.

Alternatively, you can make the Colossi a distant threat. At no point in time the creatures are actually active in the campaign world, but mad cultists, strange writings and omnious signs all predict their arrival. Then it boils down to the PC's to stop this threat and make their world save again.

Another option is to create a more 'primal' setting where the Colossi are as strong as gods, or maybe even the only gods known to mankind. Here, you shouldn't use them as an enemy, but rather as ally or protector.

The sixteen Colossi:

All Colossi have the following subtype:

Colossus

Colossi are immune to poison, disease, ability damage, ability drain, energy drain and mind-affecting effects. Colossi do not have to eat or sleep, regardless of their type. All Colossi have a way to keep persisting, even if in a greatly handicapped form, after their death and to be recreated from this form. However, they can't be resurrected by any mortal magic. Raise Dead, True Resurrection and similar spells simply fail when used to resurrect a colossus. A Wish or Miracle spell used to resurrect it does not succeed in this, but gives the caster a cryptic clue as to how to bring the Colossus back.
