Customisable 3.5 classes

Does anyone have some cool ideas for character customisation by allowing players to chose one ability from a selection of options, like the rouge special ability or wizard school abilities from (I think it was Unearthed Arcana) but more of them ( a bit like the generic classes but more balanced and less, well, generic.
