The object of the game is to figure out what happened in the room.

You are allowed to ask a yes or no question about anything previously asked/answered or described by me. Any question that cannot be answered [yes] or [no] will simply be ignored.

In order to win the game you must phrase a detailed description of exactly what happened in the room (including in said description each and every item named in the first post... I.E. below) in the from of a yes or no question.
If the answer to that question is [yes]...

You win.

Now... The circumstances:

There is a room.
In the room is a table.
Around the table are four chairs.
Three of the chairs are occupied.
There is a deck of cards on the table.
Four hands have been dealt from the deck.
One of the hands has four aces.
There is a door to the room.
On the door is a hook.

What happened?

((If you've heard this riddle before, I'd ask that you please refrain from playing or helping the others as it would ruin thier fun.))

[edit] There is a specific answer that I'm looking for here. Yes or no questions will lead you towards that answer.

Please reread my answer to your first question in the last post and reply so that I might not confuse you.

If any of their injuries can be considered "plot-important", which you replied yes to, then my question needs no more clarification. Various degree of wounds can be considered "injury" or not, but that doesn't really work for plot importance. I didn't ask how important.

I understood what you meant. However, you said their injuries were plot-important. We don't know how many people are injured, but regarless of how many people are injured or not, some of them have plot important injuries. That's what I'm asking about. Defining "injury" doesn't matter, since you've already said some have "plot-important injuries".

I'm thinking pretty much the same as Fus. They were in a submarine or some such which crashed in an accident. The four are trapped in the room with the one oxygen suit hanging on the door. They play a game of cards to decide who gets the suit. The winner then takes the suit and leaves, and the water floods in and kills the other three.

Ok, I think the general consensus is that there were four people in a 'Room'
An accident happened, meaning that everyone in the room would die soon.
There was something hanging on the hook on the door that allowed one person to survive.
They played a hand of cards to determine who would take that item.
That person who won the game took the item off the hook, left the room and survived, the other three died, as a final result of the accident.

Ok, questions.

Is the "room" in a vehicle of some kind?
Is the "room" in an aeroplane?
Was the item removed from the hook a parachute?

Ok, so I'm stuck on the airplane theory, right now, but it could be something similar

There is a room.
In the room is a table.
Around the table are four chairs.
Three of the chairs are occupied.
There is a deck of cards on the table.
Four hands have been dealt from the deck.
One of the hands has four aces.
There is a door to the room.

What happened?

The room is in a submarine.
The table is in the room in the submarine.
There are four chairs around said table.
Three of the chairs are occupied by drowned bodies.
There is a soaked deck of cards on the table.
Four hands have been dealt, to the 3 in the room and one other player.
The player no longer in the room had the four aces.
The door is in the submarine.
The hook held some sort of breathing apparatus.

A submarine failed in some way, and 4 members of the crew were faced with drowning. There was only one breathing apparatus, so only one of them could survive. They decided to play a round of a card game to decide fairly who would win. The one who won left the vehicle, using the apparatus to survive the trip to the surface. The others drowned.

Is this a somewhat correct telling of the events?

Yeah, I take it to mean, did any of them feel as though they had no choice but to play the game, if given a choice with no repercussions, would any of them have freely, willingly, entered into the game. Anyhow it doesn't matter now, moving on.

Is what I said before correct?

They were in a submarine which crashed was involved in an accident. The four are trapped in the room with the one oxygen suit hanging on the door. They play a game of cards to decide who gets the suit. The winner then takes the suit and leaves, and the water enters the room and drowns the other three.

Edit: Simue'd! But yeah, what he said.

Yes

Could it be that he committed suicide because he was depressed and alone and had no friends, and when the phone rang he regretted jumping because he realised then that wasn't all alone and someone did care enough to call him after all?

or

Maybe he had been desperately hoping for someone to call (someone = lover? friend? family?) and after waiting for ages he gave up and jumped off the building, and when the phone rang he howled because the call finally came and he couldn't answer?

It's the future. The world is now ruled by robots. Humans have been fighting a losing battle against the robots for ages but now their numbers have dwindled down to almost nothing. So the final human outpost launches a last ditch full-on attack against the robots which fails spectacularly, and the humans are slaughtered; but this man survived. Having lost all his friends and convinced that he is the only survivor the man takes his own life, but when the phone rings he realises that someone else must have also survived after all.

When B confirms that D is a relation, the coffin is sent to the mortician, C, who then inters D in the graveyard, his "back yard".

Hey, now we're gettin' somewhere. I dunno where, but it's somewhere.

Reposting the question so I don't have to scroll so far up.

There are four people called A, B, C, and D. A sends B a parcel. B opens it, looks inside, reseals it and sends it to C. C opens it, looks inside, and then buries it in his backyard. What is going on?Also summarizing the questions asked to this point.

Did someone/something die? Yes.
Does D come into this at all? Yes.
Did D die? Yes.
Were the contents of the package owned by D before his/her death? Yes.
Does A address the package to C? No.
If so, is B acting in any official capacity when he/she opens it? No.
Does the package contain D's remains? No.
Is A related to D? No.
Is B? No.
Is C? No.
Did D give the package to A before he died? No.
Are there instructions inside the package detailing what should be done with it/its contents? No.
Does A address the package to B? Yes.
Does B address it to C? Yes.
Was the mail even used to get the package from one person to another? Yes.
Did D know A? No.
Did D know B? No.
Did D know C? No.
Did A know the package would be passed to C by B? Yes.

1. Is the manner of D's death important to the answer?
2. Are the contents of the package expected to grow after they're buried?
3. Is the package a time capsule?

I know, I'm reaching now. I have no idea and I'm hoping to stumble on to something.

Well the hint there was a death was that C buried the package in the backyard. You normally bury dead things.
D wasn't mentioned at all, so I took the leap that D had died.
If D has died, and the package was buried, does that mean D is in the package?

Other questions I am asking myself right now
Why send the package from A to B to C? What sort of packages go like that?
What was in the package?

------------------------
Now some yes/no questions:

Are A,B,C and D all human?
Was D alive when this whole process began?
Was there something dead in the package when B received it?
Was there something dead in the package when C received it?
Was D in the package?

1. Not really, no.
2. No.
3. No.

3. Was there something dead in the package when B received it?
4. Was there something dead in the package when C received it?
5. Was D in the package?

1. Yes.
2. If you take the sending of the package from A to B to be the start of the process, then no, D was not alive when the process began.
3. I would have to say no.
4. I would have to say no.
5. No.

If D has died, and the package was buried, does that mean D is in the package?I already asked if the package contained D's remains. The answer was no. Also, it was determined that the package went through the mail. Mail carriers I think would disapprove of carrying corpses on their regular routes. I'm interested in hearing the answers to your other questions though.

In summary:

A, a stranger to D, takes some of D's property after his death and sends it to B, knowing that it would be forwarded to C, who then buries whatever it is in his backyard.

1. Were the contents of the package taken from D (either before or after his death) by A?
2. Were the contents taken before D's death?
3. If C knew D had died, would he expect to receive this package?
4. If B knew D had died, would he expect to receive this package in order to forward it to C?
5. Was there a reason why A did not address the package to C directly?
6. If so, is that reason relevant to the solution?

Hmm.. this one may be a little too difficult. Here's a couple of hints:

1. The reason the package was sent from A to B to C is that A wants both B and C to see what's inside the package.

2. B and C do not know of D.

It's quite a convoluted one, folks.

1. Does A know that C will bury the package once he sees the contents?
2. We'd established that D did not know A, but did A know D before he died?

Ooo, another strange idea just occurred to me.

3. Were A, B, and C involved in a crime?
4. If so, did D have evidence linking them to the crime?
5. If so, did A find out about the evidence, kill D, and take it from him?

I'll give slightly more than yes or no answers here, just to speed things up a little. I've also altered the second hint slightly, just to make it clearer. It now reads "B and C do not know of D".

1. Yes, probably.
2. No.
3. B and C were not involved in a crime. Some of A's actions might probably constitute a crime.
4. No.
5. No.

Good guesses though.

Okay, let me be a little more general then.

1. Did A kill D?
2. Did A steal the package from D (as opposed to just taking it for some less criminal purpose)?
3. Are the contents of the package something that someone else might be looking for?

Also, I'm a little confused about something. Earlier you said that if B or C knew D had died, they would expect this package, but then you state that B and C don't know of D. I'm not sure how it can be that someone would expect a package if they knew that someone they didn't know existed died.

Since I understand that reasoning this out may be part of the solution, let me just ask that you clarify that I'm actually understanding the statements correctly, not that you explain what I'm missing if both statements are true as I understand them.

I hope that made sense.

1) Was something incredibly valuable inside the box?
2) Was A doing a job for B and C?

I'll try...

1. Did the package contain illegal drugs of some sort?
2. If so, is A a drug dealer?
3. If so, did B and C buy drugs from him?
4. If so, was D investigating A's drug trafficking?
5. Was D killed?
6. Did D commit suicide?
7. Did D die of natural causes?

Ah, I'll try to explain things a bit clearer then. B and C do not know of D, but if someone had told them "Hey, this person D died last week", they would expect the package regardless. Basically D's vital status makes no difference to B and C. So even if they knew D had died, they would still be expecting this package from A.

1. No.
2. Well it was taken without permission and after D's death, so yes, you can call it stealing I suppose.
3. No.

1. Was D old when he died?
2. Are the contents of the package something that a reasonable person would expect to be buried?
3. Are the contents of the package something D would have normally carried with him?
4. Do A, B, and C regularly conduct this sort of transaction?
5. If C had been the one who acquired the package from D, would he have sent it to B to be passed on to A?

4. No.

*searches his home frantically for something he owns that he would expect someone he didn't know to steal and bury*

1. Was D wealthy?
2. Did the package contain more than one item?
3. Was the item something an average citizen might own?
4. Was it something only a man or only a woman might carry?

Is the setting present day/real world?

Yes it's in the real world. If I recall correctly the time frame was around the early 20th century, but present day would work as well.

1. Did D die suddenly, like a heart attack or something?
2. Is there something significant about C's back yard?

((Okay, I'm starting to suffer from sleep deprivation.))
