This thread is for me, Inspector Valin, and any of my associates, to make rolls related to constructions of things manifold and various. Starting off with testing out the SoIaF House Generator.

*whistles* Do you want to build a...n Eclipse Phase character with Lifepath? :smallwink:

Aptitude [roll0]
Native Tongue [roll1]
Youth Path [roll2]

Inspector Valin
2015-05-28, 07:10 AM
So.... Aptitude is something I can pick. We have a French speaker with a Wholesome Youth

[roll0] Background
[roll1] Specific Background

[roll2] Background Event

[roll3] Character Age ([roll4] exact age)

Inspector Valin
2015-05-28, 07:15 AM
That gives us a Street Rat, who has experimented with drugs but forsaken that lifestyle (Gain Drug Exception trait) They are 66 years old as of the setting's current date. And that they were on Earth prior to the Fall

[roll0] Pre-Fall Life Path

Inspector Valin

Switched Gears. This character got out of the criminal street lifestyle, or at least tried to

And then the Fall happened!

[roll6] Adult Post Fall Path

[roll8] Faction Package

Inspector Valin
2015-05-28, 07:32 AM
Our criminal became an Autonomist Medic, prefall. Not a slacker, +20 to a skill of my choice.

During the Fall, she got infected with Watts-MacLeod, and her first focus package postfall is Controller Asynch. But she's more focused on her new faction: she's a Faction Paragon.

[roll0] New Faction
[roll1] Faction Focus Package

That brings her up to 7PP: 3 on Street Rat, 1 on Medic, 3 on Faction, 1 on Controller Asynch. Three more packages to add, reflecting recent activity

[roll2] First Package
[roll3] Second Package
[roll4] Third Package

Inspector Valin

3PP on Venusian. And three customization packages

Inspector Valin

Athletics, Social Butterfly and Tech Training. That's 10pp. Someone left her a cool QE unit with plans to call in future, and she's made 40,000 at what she does. Not bad for a flat.

[roll0] Final story event.

And now, to try and use the Pathfinder Campaign Guide's background generator... to create an Exalted character! Going to roll as human, see how it goes.

Ok, so brought up in a town or village. Both parents are dead. Has [roll0] siblings, and grew up with an ordinary childhood.

Going to skip class background since I'm not sure on who this person is just yet.

[roll1] Influential Figure

Now, Conflicts. I'm leery of the major ones, but... to hell with it! RNG, mofracka!

[roll6] Character Drawback

Inspector Valin
2015-05-28, 12:52 PM
Ok, all seems simple enough. Broke a promise to a crime boss out of a sense of justice, has a current romantic relationship, and a slightly insular perspective. Now, time for specifics

[roll0] Class
[roll1] Background

Inspector Valin
2015-05-28, 12:56 PM
So, character number one is a meticulous hometown scholar, probably a Twilight, who once broke a promise to a local gang boss to see justice done. Has six siblings, dead parents, and is currently in a relationship.

Not bad. Let's try that again, see what a second shake of the dice does.

You came to the wrong neighborhood, Delzahn. Ranks of armed Brides, four full Horns in strength, rush toward you, rush into battle, their arms and cloaks red with the blood of sacrificial cattle. The slap of their bare feet against the cracked earth is almost as loud as thunder at this range.

[roll0]

Starting Initiative is JB + 3, and for a Battle Group only determines its place in turn order.

Inspector Valin
2015-06-07, 03:45 PM
Everything had been so peaceful. Riding her white horse slowly down the street, smiling at the sight of people relaxing in the gentle warmth of the afternoon. And then they rushed her. An endless tide of crazed looking woman caked in blood, red capes fluttering in the breeze, their spears sharp as they lunged towards the traveller. It seems people around here weren't inclined to wanderers. And with the look on their frenzied faces, this was not going to be a bloodless fight.

Fine. Brides of Ahlat? They're bandits and killers, sanctioned by a false god. They don't deserve mercy.

Looking down at her pure white horse with a smile, the Dereth chuckled quietly to herself. A crack of the reins and a cry of "Onward!" was all it took the Delzhan wanderer; in an instant she was charging towards the amassed Brides, the blue glint of Dichoro almost blinding as the sun bounced off of the glass-scythe. She would meet her foes stroke for stroke, blow for blow, blood for blood. She was still Delzhan after all.

[roll0] Join Battle, including two stunt dice and five paid for by the Awareness Excellency. +3 successes to determine starting Initiative.

Inspector Valin
2015-06-07, 03:56 PM
It seemed the Delzhan traveller was less easy pray than she had appeared. In instants, her swift white horse is in the midst of Ahlat's chosen, steady as a rock. Barely gracing the foreign vermin with a glance, the Dereth twirled her mighty scythe about, bringing its blade this way and that as she slashed against the encroaching god-brides. Turning Dichoro upwards, and leaning back in her saddle, the white destrider reared its hooves above the fray before stamping downwards, charging into the enemy's ranks as the Delzhan traveller brought her weapon down against a particularly strong looking barbarian,

Regain 5 motes for the first turn. [roll0] Excellent Strike, Melee Excellency. I gain 1 auto-success and reroll all ones on this attack. Piercing Attack: Initiative falls to 13, and defence is down by 1, but in return I ignore 4 points of soak from armor. Attack costs me 13 motes, emptying my personal pool and leaving me with 28 peripheral.

Ascension
2015-06-07, 04:08 PM
After a little wrangling, that looks like 20 damage dice. Withering attacks DO double 10s:
[roll0]

Ascension
2015-06-07, 04:19 PM
Wreathed in sudden golden fire, the Chiaroscuran horsewoman falls on the massed Brides like an emissary of divine wrath, scattering warrior women in every direction. Each stroke of her scythe shatters spears, tears shields, bloodies bodies.

Even the stout hearts of the fervent Brides quake a little at such an onslaught. The Delzahn shines with the light of the Sun, and is not Ahlat beholden to that greater god?

This battle may be over as soon as it has begun.

[roll0] Difficulty 1

Ascension
2015-06-07, 04:25 PM
But no, the Brides of Ahlat are no common rabble, and their god's blessing compels them to fight to their utmost. They will press on, even in the face of such a foe.

Their massed spears press around the lone rider; their points may be fewer, but they are still as sharp.

Short spears, 13 dice: [roll0]

Inspector Valin
2015-06-07, 04:38 PM
The Brides pressed hard, and the Delzhen warrior is pushed back under their renewed assault. Her destrider clomps slowly backward, its mistress twirling her scythe to meet the natives' spear-tips. She sighed inwardly, this should not have required as much bloodshead as this.

It's Ahlat. Everything is bought in blood

Current Initiative is 19. [roll0] Tens are not doubled.

Inspector Valin
2015-06-07, 04:50 PM
The quiet Dereth had been driven backward slightly by the renewed onslaught, the silent warrior having been denied the ground she'd begun to gain against the Brides. Sighing, the rider begun to slow her counterstrokes; ever so slightly, but enough to lure the frenzied brides onward. The warriors of Ahlat sought glory and today they'd found little other than blood. Yet as their attacks reached a fever pitch, the Delzhan warrior smiled... and then spun her scythe in a great arc, letting the mighty weapon leave her hands for an instant as it flew through the air, meeting every would-be spear at once in a whirlwind of death.

Docking myself two points of initiative to delay and launch a full powered clash attack! Going for the same enhancements as last time, spending 8 motes of Peripheral and thus raising anima to Glowing, leaving me at 20 motes

[roll0]

Inspector Valin

[roll0] Reroll from Excellent Strike

Damage, if I read it right: [roll0]

The nigh-inevitable rout check: [roll1], Difficulty 2.

Ascension
2015-06-07, 05:11 PM
A once-crowded battlefield is now reduced to but a few devoted combatants, pressing on against a foe who has already felled so many, a foe they can't hope to overcome.

Inspector Valin
2015-06-07, 05:26 PM
The Dereth paused as the remaining Brides fell about her, their darkened blood running along the cracked earthen street. This was wrong. It wasn't what she had come to Harbourhead to accomplish. But Ahlat's worshippers were fanatics. As long as this country bowed to the Bull, worshipped his image and upheld his principles of endless war, Harbourhead would never improve. Never know peace. Places like this are why we need the Realm. If anyone can break the Bull God's faith, it's them.

Still, this fight wasn't over yet. The Dereth pulled up her horses reins, about to turn away, when she heard the horse cries from some distance down the bloody street. Yet more Brides had survived Dichoro's attention. Snarling, the warrior women forced themselves forward, over the fallen bodies of their comrades, still in perfect lockstep after everything.

The Dereth sighed, looking down upon them from her white horse. These people were strong of heart, quick of arm... they could do so much more for their communities. But they squandered their talents on service to a god unworthy of licking their boots. It was harsh, but a lesson in warfare was nessecary. Sitting there silently astride her white horse, the Delzhan Sorceress begun to focus, calling up the Dragon Lines around her, just as Hurricane had taught her, the golden mark upon her brow glowing ever more brightly. If this was to end, it would do so with no room for doubt.

Sorcery time. Tapping Defining Intimacy of "A Warrior Protects the Weak" for 4 free Sorcerous Motes, Anima rises by a level. Going for Death of Obsidian Butterflies as the finishing blow against the last Horn.
[roll0]

Inspector Valin
2015-06-07, 05:37 PM
Without warning, a seemingly unending swarm of black onyx moths erupted from the traveller's now outstretched hands. Appearing from nowhere, the strange insects enveloped the entire street, descending on the remaining Brides as a strange unending swarm, each one as harsh a projectile as an arrow. Bringing up her spear and slashing one down from the sky, one poor Bride found fragments of Onyx lodged deep in her arm as the creature split apart.

The Dereth was silent, her expression unchanging. Far above them, the glow of her golden light intensified, forming the faint outline of a staircase leading into the clouds and the sound of distant flute pipes could be heard. The Wanderer's anima was at its peak. And the Brides were as good as dead.

Aaand that hit it in a turn.Throwing down Eight motes of Peripheral on this attack, Anima flaring to Banner. This attack is undodgeable, and you take a -2 penalty to Parry against it too,

[roll0] Damage is 8, plus successes.

Ascension
2015-06-07, 08:27 PM
The remaining Brides raise fragile shields against the torrent of sharp-winged moths unleashed by the sorceress's uncanny attack. Those wooden frames and stretched ox-hides are their only hope at surviving such an onslaught. They are not enough.

Stunting up a parry, though it's reduced to 5 by the penalty.

That leaves you dealing 10 dice of damage: [roll0]

Ascension
2015-06-07, 08:35 PM
Not enough to save them all, perhaps, but, backed by Ahlat's blessing, the hide shields do shelter some. The surviving Brides come on, still not yet broken, even after suffering so much.

The sorceress's magic continues to threaten them even after its failure, however; broken glass litters the space between the Brides and their foe.

I'm taking their Combat Movement pool as the Dex+Athletics for resisting Death of Obsidian Butterflies' environmental hazard. Difficulty 2
[roll0]

Ascension
2015-06-07, 08:52 PM
Nimble feet pick through the field of broken glass and come up unscathed. The remaining Brides set aside their spears and reach beneath their cloaks, producing short metal cylinders, each carefully inscribed with prayers to Ahlat. They bring pure fire to cleanse the unholy magic from the woman who would defy the Southern God of War.

The flames leap forth.

Down to 11 dice for this attack:
[roll0]

Incidentally, I wonder if the Brides were written off an older version of the Flame tag, because if you look in Panoply, Flame isn't noted as granting a damage minimum, just as giving a flat +4 to damage from Withering attacks instead of adding strength.

Also, the Brides are technically listed as carrying the musket-sized Firewands, not the pistol-sized Flame Pieces, but I can't see how they could carry those and spears at the same time. Maybe it's supposed to be an either-or thing? IDK.

Honestly, I just wanted to try something different than "they try to spear you again." :P

I've got them sitting at four points of Magnitude left, BTW. The attack that brought them down to Size 1 did 2 rollover, and Death of Obsidian Butterflies ultimately did just 2 due to the bad damage roll.

Inspector Valin
2015-06-08, 02:52 AM
The Dereth snorted as the last few Brides withdrew familiar looking devices from beneath their cloaks. Flamepieces? Truly? The Lady of War twirled her golden shafted scythe about, catching the flames as they came. Harbourhead's arms could never match a blade of Chiaroscuran glass. Coupled with an Orichalcum shaft, Dichoro may as well have been a stone wall. Every jolt of flame faded upon the breeze as the artifact cut them from the sky.

There is a moment of silence, as the last gout of conjured fire peters out.

Then, jumping swiftly from her horse's back, the Dehelzhan warrior leaped across the street, twirling her scythe around her as she went. The fragments of Obsidian rise upwards at her passing, pulled into the skies with the force of a swift Solar's movement. In seconds however, the Dereth has fallen to the ground, amidst the scant few remaining brides, making one final lethal phiroette with her glass scythe. A second storm of black Onyx follows in her wake, shards of black crystal falling like hail upon Ahlat's remaining warriors.

The wanderer stands there after the last shard has fallen. The remains of one shattered butterfly lie beneath her hefty riding boot. She doesn't look down at the remaining Brides, staring instead upwards towards the sun as she spoke, her voice as calm as ever. "This fight is over. Accept it."

You get docked an extra two levels of damage, battle groups get hit by an automatic level of damage for every four levels of Decisive rolled. I'm not sure we did that attack right, but let's roll with it. Playtesting time! Going for a simple regular old attack to close this out. Just enhanced by a regular 5 motes of Excellency.

Inspector Valin

Ok, this is it. The great battle of the age

Inspector Valin vs Central Casting.

Let's go! Rolling for Culture!

[roll0] Culture
[roll1] Social Status
[roll2] Birth Legitimacy

Inspector Valin
2015-08-17, 07:39 AM
Ok, so Poor but Legitimate Nomad. Rank 4 Ride, Rank 3 Weapon Use, Rank 4 Wilderness Survival, Rank 1 Urban, Rank 3 Street Fighting.

CulMod 0, SolMod -1

[roll0] Family
[roll1] Siblings

Inspector Valin
2015-08-17, 07:48 AM
So, Mother, Father and [roll0] siblings.
[roll1] Birth Order for my character.
[roll2] Month of Birth (16 is Calibration)
[roll3] Place of Birth

Inspector Valin
2015-08-17, 07:51 AM
So, four siblings [roll0] [roll1] [roll2] [roll3]

Aaand place of birth for mine. [roll4]

Inspector Valin
2015-08-17, 07:57 AM
So firstborn male, next three female, youngest male. And my character was born in a hospital or equivelent. Birth Mod -7.
[roll0] Unusual Birth

And for the sake of it... rolling Birthplace and Circumstances for the other siblings!

Older Brother
[roll1] Place of Birth
[roll2] Unusual Birth

Oldest Sister
[roll3] Place of Birth
[roll4] Unusual Birth

Second Sister
[roll5] Place of Birth
[roll6] Unusual Birth

Younger Brother
[roll7] Place of Birth
[roll8] Unusual Birth

Inspector Valin
2015-08-17, 08:04 AM
Hrm... ok, Older sister was born somewhere exotic. [roll0]. And the brothers were born in a foreign land. [roll1] [roll2]. Only Second Sister was born at home.

Meanwhile, over with the parents, how are they doing?

[roll3] Parents Occupations

Inspector Valin
2015-08-17, 08:09 AM
So, Older Brother was born in our home, in a foreign land, Younger Brother was born at a hospital analogy in a foreign land. And Older Sister was born at a temple that she wasn't meant to be born in.

Meanwhile, both parents work! Time to jump ahead half the sodding book to work out what they do.

[roll0] Mother
[roll1] Father

Inspector Valin
2015-08-17, 08:13 AM
So, they're both animal herders.

THAT was a needed diversion, book! Thanks!

[roll0] Memorable Things, Father
[roll1] Memorable Things, Mother

Meanwhile, [roll2] significant events in childhood, and [roll3] significant events in adulthood.

Inspector Valin
2015-08-17, 08:19 AM
So, Mother had [roll0] Unusual Birth Circumstances
[roll1]
[roll2]
[roll3]

Dad, meanwhile, was very religious.
[roll4]

Now, for events!
[roll5] at age [roll6]
[roll7] at age [roll8]
[roll9] at age [roll10]

[roll11] at age [roll12]
[roll13] at age [roll14]
[roll15] at age [roll16]

Inspector Valin
2015-08-17, 08:30 AM
So, mother was abandoned on a hilltop as a baby and dad's an ancestor cultist.

At age 4, I learned [roll0] to what degree of skill? [roll1]
At age 10, [roll2] more Significant Events happened!
[roll3] [roll4] [roll5]
And at age 12, a tragedy occurred!

At 16, my character got involved in criminal activities.
... and my character's family had an attitude towards her of... [roll6]
At age 17, I learned [roll7] to what degree of skill? [roll8]

And that's two neutral traits, a Darkside, one that's up in the air, and one R that I guess will be determined by the Tragedy table

Inspector Valin
2015-08-17, 08:45 AM
So, following through on all of this...

At age four, I learned how to [roll0] up to Rank 3
At age 10, something else bloody happened. [roll1], learned animal herding to rank 3 from parents and I got mixed up in illegal activities.
At age 12, tragedy happened [roll2]

At age 16, my character got involved with criminals again, and the family didn't love her for it.
And at age 17, she learned mountaineering to rank 3. Presumably to escape her family.

Three Darkside Traits, one neutral thus far.

Now. The crime thing. I'm going to roll this by the book, and if it's a complete jumble, consolidate it into something that made sense
[roll3] Beginning of a Life of Crime
[roll4] Type of Crime
[roll5] Underworld Events
[roll6] [roll7] [roll8]

[roll9] Beginning of a Life of Crime
[roll10] Type of Crime
[roll11] Underworld Events
[roll12] [roll13] [roll14]

Inspector Valin
2015-08-17, 09:01 AM
Ok, at age 4, she learned astrology up to rank 3.
Then ran away from home in favour of [roll0] and got mixed up with criminals at age 10.
Then got orphaned at 12. Since it specified Orphaned, I'll assume both parents died.

[roll1] Inheritance
[roll2] Unusual Events surrounding death

Crime thing now. Somehow when my character ran away from home, she ended up a pirate, because she wanted to defy authority. She became a pirate captain.... somehow but her crew bar her were all captured and hanged, leading to her escaping and vowing to give up piracy.

I'm going to claim a reroll on the second round of criminality because I needed to reroll the motive anyway, and that fubars the remaining rolls. Besides, I think we can have something more interesting than banditry.
[roll3] combined with [roll4] for motive
[roll5] type of crime
[roll6] Underworld Events
[roll7] [roll8] [roll9]

Inspector Valin
2015-08-17, 09:19 AM
So, fell into the hands of criminals. Presumably the pirates. I guess she ran away from home due to issues with her parents' authority?

When parents died, they left her a key, a map and a gift.
[roll0] Gift.
Also, two unusual things happened around their death [roll1] [roll2]

Crime wise, she was a Guild Thief when older. She joined a gang, killed a rival gang leader, and got screwed over on a large jewel heist by [roll3] fellow thieves.

Now, Adult Event [roll4]

Inspector Valin
2015-08-17, 09:35 AM
So, got left a Key, a Map and a Horse. But an Evil Uncle and another family member swiped part of it. Older Brother took the Map, Uncle took the key, my character got the horse.

I'll reroll Adult Event, since that's not a viable result in Exalted [roll0]

Inspector Valin
2015-08-17, 09:51 AM
So. 'Exotic Personality Features', eh?

... hell with it, it's why this book is notorious, let's give 'em a whirl.
[roll0] What type of 'exotic' Personality Trait?

Also, four Darkside traits, three neutral and two random
[roll1] [roll2] [roll3] [roll4] Darkside Traits
[roll5] [roll6] [roll7] Neutral Traits

[roll8] [roll9] Random

Inspector Valin
2015-08-17, 09:56 AM
That's a Light Side trait and another Neutral Trait to roll

[roll0] Light Side
[roll1] Neutral

Exotic Personality Trait came out at... Allergy. Of course. [roll2]

Dark Side traits. She's thoughtless, irreverent and vengeful. Neutral traits say she's a Dependent, Emotional Follower. Let's see what we get on the last two

Inspector Valin
2015-08-17, 09:58 AM
That adds on Dreamy and Giving. And allergic to an unusual medicine. Hmm...

Ascension
2015-08-20, 02:24 PM
[roll0]
[roll1]
[roll2]

And since it's going to have to be the primary roll of the game, let me try to get used to this...
[roll3][roll4]
[roll5][roll6]

Inspector Valin
2015-10-27, 10:33 AM
Hmm... I need to put in another ap, try and help with this variety thing. We've got a lot of combatants. A good number of socialites. Did anyone order a Sorcerer?!

Oh. We've got some of those...

How about a Tailor?! Yeah, that sounds good. Need to work on that. Sheet to hit completion and acquire background shortly

Once there was a maiden who hung many prayer strips about her house.

The maid's name was Emy, and she lived in the Coral Archipelago, upon the Isle of Orei. It was a dull and grey existence. None knew her father, a sailor, a pirate, a fae or a Lunar, it made little difference to the common-born. The young Em lived with her mother in a little house in Mantaville and learned to sew from her. The older woman was devoted to the Ocean Mother and always taught Emy that if she worked hard enough, she'd make everything around them better. Every shirt she fixed, every hem she tucked, every act was making another soul happy and winning profit for the two of them. In time, the young girl's skill surpassed her parent's, and the mother proudly begun displaying her dresses in the shop window. Rich folk from Azure and Skullstone came to have their clothes tailored by the little poor girl in the back ally shop in Mantaville. At first, they brought fine silks and delicate threads with them, but in time, Emy was able to save enough to buy her own. That little tailor's shop became one of the wealthiest businesses in all of Orei outside the great casinos themselves.

But Emy looked around their neighbourhood. It was still as dank and dreary as ever. Most of their friends couldn't afford the dresses and coats she wove any more: the spidersilk and iron-thread were far too expensive for the Coral-folk. No matter how she laboured. And if she were to give the fine threads and silks away, it would leave both her and her mother penniless. And if she stopped working for the gentlemen and ladies from Azure, they'd probably find a way to get her thrown in debtor's prison alongside her mother. There was no easy answer to the problem, and working harder at her job wouldn't be enough to make things better..

For three months, Emy hung prayer strips dedicated to every god she knew across her shop. She made offerings to the Ocean Father, Wun Ja, Venus and Jupiter and a thousand minor gods for wisdom and guidence. Her prayers echoed up through the corridors of Yu Shan night after night. But nothing happened. Gods are preoccupied with their celebrations and beuracracy: they seldom help solve mortal problems. That task is left to humanity. So Emy sought answers in the mortal world. She spoke with other seamstresses, with the clients of her shop. She sought out priests and sages, men known across the archipelago for their wisdom and insight. All told her the same thing. The world is as it is, and to struggle to change the nature of things is foolish. Better always to accept life and live with things as they are.

Emy could not accept that. She thanked the Wise Masters politely, bowed her head to each in turn, and then proceeded to make her way through the librarier of Mantaville. After each day's work, the young woman made her way to a new house of learning, paying the book-keeper a handful of silver, and proceeded to lose herself in study. She learned of far distant cultures, of the history of the west and the world entire. She studied rituals of the Fae and songs of the Princes of Hell. Emy of Orei devoured every book she could find, night after night. And each night she fell asleep amidst a stack of books, rising dreary eyed with the next day's dawn to trudge back to her shop. So her life continued, for three months more.

Finally, on the first night of Calibration, when everyone else in Mantaville slept, the young dressmaker reached the last tome of them all. The final book within all of Mantaville that she had not yet perused. Bound in Emy's eyes were bleary, as she pulled the book towards her and flipped its pages open. The terms were unfamiliar at first, the Five Stations, the dragon lines, essence and abstraction and the principles of creation. Yet in that moment, in that old, dusty, dimly lit room, something begun to resonate within Emy. She pushed herself upwards, tiredness falling away in the face of adrenaline, as she kept reading the letters that had begun to glow faintly gold. It was almost as if she could feel the laylines the book spoke of, hear the rush of essence flowing across the world.

As she continued, a voice begun to echo in the back of her mind. Words springing not from Emy, nor the book, but across the bounds of all existence through the magic of the Loom of Fate.

The wise men told me to leave things alone. That the world is how it was meant to be. They said that by trying to change things, to make them more fair and give others the same blessings and wisdom we've recieved, even the wisest sorcerer risks upsetting some delicate abstract balance of the universe. "The dragon lines will burn with emerald fire!" they say, "The Silent Wind will rise up from her prison, the Wyld will tear the world apart and everyone will be worse off." Just because you tried to do the right thing. Tried to make Creation a farer place.

I laughed at them. If the world is wrong, then it is our duty to change it. Our task to make it better, for everyone. Heroes do not sit on old mountains, and pontifercate about the meaning of the universe. They go out and set things right! They make Creation better, in big ways or small. What good is philosophy without a point? Wisdom without action? For all their learning and understanding, the sorcerers of my age are far too protective of their secret treasure. They horde their knowledge because it grants them power and makes them feel important to sit up on some mountain and wait for the world to come begging to them to solve their problems.

Don't be like that, kid. Go be a hero. Change the world, and show them all what a good person is capable of. Make Creation a better place, then raise a glass in memory of Salina, who once upon a time did just the same. And we'll both chuckle at how wrong those old greybeards were.

And in that moment, with the laughter of the ancient Zenith echoing in the back of her mind, Shining Peridot Exalted into the Twilight Caste. Some in Mantaville reported a strange bright light coming from the top of the old Belltower that night, but most ignored it. Strange things happen in Mantaville all the time.

A few weeks later, the residents of Roslyn Eaves awoke to find packages outside their front door. One hundred sets of perfect clothing had been distributed across the neigbourhood, to every family that had ever done business with Emy or her mother. Each one was woven of thread that would not cut or fray, and shifted itself to perfectly fit its wearer. No matter what might befall them, each resident of the Eaves from now on would have at least one set of clothes the equal of any nobleman's uniform. Ms. Tanith, the old seamstress of the district, found the documents related to a substantial fund of money waiting for her on the dining table after she awoke, along with a simple goodbye letter signed in glowing golden ink.

Emy Rhona looked out across her home for one last time, smiling to herself at what she had set in motion. Then, with a turn of her cloak, the Twilight vanished into the Mantaville crowd. She had a ship to catch. Creation was a large place, and so many other lands were in need of her work.

In the twisted skeins of the Warp lie many realms of Possibility glimpsed only by the mad. One such prophet, a particularly lucky wyrd, lived to adulthood on a peaceful planet in the Realm of Ultramar, his talent undetected even on that closely guarded world. But some quirk of his madness drove him out of hiding one day, and he seized the hand of a young boy passing through a bustling marketplace. Gripping the boy's hand tightly, he opened his mind to fate.

He saw that the young boy had been named Codex by an over-eager mother who felt certain he would someday be an Ultramarine, resplendent in glorious genericness. But he was driven to know more. He reached further...

First he divined the boy's basic aptitudes and potentials:

From there, the spiraling paths of fate diverged, and he perceived three possibilities for the boy's future...

In the first, the boy fulfilled his mother's dreams and grew to be a perfectly generic Tactical Marine. His subsequent slightly-less-generic heroism in the Tyrannic Wars, however, was enough to make him stand out among his peers, and he was chosen for service in the Deathwatch. On admittance to the ranks of the Deathwatch, at the impressive sum of 13,000 XP, his traits were as follows:

And he had 75 xp remaining.

* I'm technically cheating by allowing this Brother Codex to become a Space Marine. Technically, the Tyranus Conclave Dark Heresy Space Marine rules require a Strength and Toughness of 30+ in order to enter the career. I used my reroll to improve this Codex's Toughness (at the cost of his intelligence), but his Strength is still 2 points insufficient.

In the third, the boy came of age in a gaol, carefully monitored due to fears of corruption following his close contact with an errant Warp-wyrd. By the time he was released from suspicion, he was too old to be considered for the Ultramarines. He tried out several other jobs before eventually finding a lasting position in a textile factory. He would eventually rise to be the foreman of his work shift, but would never stop watching the stars at night and wondering... wondering what could've been if cruel fate hadn't crushed his childhood dreams.

The prophet's eyes widened in horror as he saw that third path unfold in his mind's vision, and he was still standing there, shocked, murmuring and clutching at young Codex's hand, when the masked Arbitrator laid a heavy hand on his shoulder...

...for that's the way with fate. There's no way to observe it without, in some way, altering its flow.

"Fire? You..." Choro sputters, not quite able to believe what she just heard from Doc. She wasn't sure what to make of the mutant herself; but Wagon's tone, perhaps coupled with a long day sets something alight inside the little mare. Scowling, she waves a hoof back the way they came. "You see an innocent creature, forced to live off corpse grime, mewling and starving... and your first response is kill it? What kind of doctor are you?"

The little wizard's anger makes it hard for her to resist the urge to shout. But her gaze was icy cold, even through the evo visor. "Oh right. The kind that shoots an unconscious stallion in the head and calls it self defence. Silly me. I forgot I was dealing with a 'wasteland' doctor."

The disdain in Choro's voice nears weapons grade. The young mare trots across the catwalk to Strata and the bots, far less the merry pony she had been before entering the factory. "What is it, Professor? Did you want something?" If Strata doesn't object, Choro will keep walking back along the catwalk, ready for Moonshadow to guide her towards the server. No reason to avoid walking and talking.

Ohh, I'm doing the old random-roll thing again here, this time using Warhammer Community's tables for randomly rolling an Age of Sigmar setting because the actual canon setting isn't populated enough (https://www.warhammer-community.com/2017/09/26/make-your-own-free-city-the-easy-way-sep26gw-homepage-post-4/). :smalltongue:

I'm using physical dice, but I'll be recording them here as I go along.

Our fair city's name is 12, 56, which adds up to...

Sigmar's... Bane.

We are off to a great start. I am sure this is a very cheerful place.

It's in the Realm of... 23...

Shyish! That might explain the name, at least...

Its size is... 2, and its inhabitants are... okay, the d3 was "1" and so it's just one type of inhabitant, and they're... 4

That means it's... a hamlet... of Stormcast Eternals. Of course!

The number of distinguishing features is... 4, which doesn't mean 4, but rather "roll a d3+1 and then roll d66 (It's like a d100, but with only d6s!) that many times," because these tables are a little silly. Okay, so it'll be 3 different features, and the rolls are... 52, 35, and 26.

So it's home to a notable Freeguild, a legendary library, and a... Scourge Corsairs sea port?

Well, except for the sea port, I think we may have rolled up Sijan! After all, it's in the land of the dead, features a notable guild, and THE LIBRARIES ARE LEGENDARY.

Valin, I challenge you to roll one yourself. We can be rival cities! :smallwink:

Huh. That's surprisingly logical. We've got a Realmgate (presumably to Ulgu given that name), some local gem mines, and our own Scourge Corsairs Seaport. Guess those guys get around. :smallwink:
