Accommodations:

Room Block should be setup now!

We will have a meeting area at the Best Western on N. Roan. It should be available to us starting at 6PM Friday evening until checkout time Sunday morning. As part of the booking, we have told them we will fill up a 10 room block. The room rates are pretty great. $72.99/night. These rates will apply to Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night. Please make sure to let them know which nights you are staying. You are not obligated to stay all four nights, it's just setup that way, so that we have enough rooms blocked off.

The number to contact the Best Western at is: 423/282-2161.
Please wait until next week before calling to make a reservation.
The group name for this block is "Trogland Meetup."
We need to have the 10 rooms booked before June.
Please up the thread if you reserve one of these rooms, so that we can keep track of what is left/available.

Room Count(Confirmed): 0
*They will add extra rooms, but we'll need to make sure to get at least 10.

Hotel Amenities include:
Restaurant on-site
Cocktail lounge
Complimentary breakfast
Outdoor pool
Free internet

When:

Begins: June 26th, 2015
Ends: June 28th, 2015

No official events will be happening outside this time!
However, feel free to coordinate with other attendees if you think you may be arriving early/leaving late, to form your own events.

Why:

Quite simply, because it's fun. Trogland is full of people. The Trogland Meetup is attended by some of the most awesome people in all of Trogland. Do you really want to miss that?

Did anyone else get excited because "NINE? That's almost TEN!"

I actually managed to beat her in Cribbage several times last time we played. I'm pretty sure the stars had aligned just so to make that happen, because after winning like, 8 games straight (including Skunking her once), she proceeded to whoop me again as per her usual.

Stupid flights are really expensive, though.
Where are the trans-Atlantic flights for a tenner? Why haven't Ryanair started any cheap transatlantic flights yet?
Also, will we fly to Charlotte, Nashville, DC, Atlanta, Chicago, New Orleans or New York?
I'm going to suggest renting a car for the weekend. Helps out with transport of people during the weekend (see, I'm a nerd-herder even if I'm not in the UK).

Hey Trogland thread!

It is time for my yearly maybe/possibly/hopefully post. I graduate from college next week (holy crap), and have started my job hunt and all that fun stuff. My summer is currently very much up in the air, but I have a better chance of making it than I have in a while.

So here's to hoping I find a job, and that they let me take a long weekend to see some of my favorite people.

I'll let y'all know more when I know more.

Ok Everybody!

The Trogland Registration Site (http://trogland.penguinsushi.com) is now open for registration! (Archy, you can stop now.)

Registration is still $25 - however, please note that there might be an increase next year as our expenses for the hotel space have increased significantly. (It's still a pretty good deal for us, but there's now less padding in our budget.)

--

Note a couple of changes to the schedule:

- Friday night's muster & gaming will take place at Mid City Grill (http://www.mymidcity.com/). We usually meet there on the saturday night of the con, but we don't have access to the conference room friday night, so we're pulling a switch up. (This nominally drops Cootie Browns from the schedule, but it's just down the street from the hotel if anyone wants to hit it up saturday or sunday nights.)

- We'll have the traditional cookout/kubb/ca$h&gun$ meeting at the usual place on saturday afternoon, but we will also have the conference room during this time, so if the heat is too much for some (or if there's something people want to do that's better suited to the hotel), this space is available. The plan following the cookout is to return to said conference room for games the rest of the evening (and, quite likely, into sunday morning).

- We should have the conference room for sunday as well, so we should be there for as long as you can stick around!

--

Other Troglandanizers, did I forget to mention anything?

Countdown says 114 days - who's ready!?

I got the registration derp screen....

Yes, something seems to be wrong with the site confirmation. Everything is going through correctly, but the site isn't recognizing the token for some reason. I'll have to look into it.

Just to clarify, registration IS going through correctly, it's just that the switch that says "oh, ok, that worked" isn't flipping.

Edit:

OK

The registration confirmation issue on the registration site has been fixed with 30 seconds of Google and a minor declaration. Looks like PayPal upgraded the version of SSL its APIs are using, and didn't bother telling me; the code that handles the actual connection was hard-coded to use the previous version. Thanks, PayPal, I was using your library. That's right, you made a change that made your own #$%^ code stop functioning. And here I thought, if I don't screw with it, it won't break. Silly me. grumble grumble...

Anyway, the site should be active again, and registration confirmations should complete successfully now.

Hmm. Can you be more specific? My only notification on this was a confirmation success, and I don't see anything in the logs.

Edit:

Nevermind, I think I know what happened. There actually wasn't an "error" per se, but I think I see how one was reported (fun with asynchronicity). The notice users should get in that situation now will say something along the lines of "in progress" instead of suggesting something actually went wrong.

Ok, so that one was my fault. Kinda surprised that hasn't happened before now.

Anyway, should be fixed now.

And, yes, everything went through correctly.

Oh yeah, sorry, Archonic, I meant to reply to you on that as well.

The best times for "organized" tabletop games are usually friday and saturday nights, in the 8pm-midnight range. Saturday afternoon is also a possibility if there is a dedicated interest, but that time has, historically, been a bit more chaotic.

On a quasi-related note, I am planning to run another Little Fears game this year (probably on saturday night) - this one will be a brand new arc.

I wanted to wander through the thread and pose a very brief question.

There has been an "event" in a few of our prequel Trogland meet-ups, that has not occurred for quite some time. It was fairly taxing, but quite entertaining... I am here to poll the audience, and inquire about the interest level this year.

Would a few of you be interested in climbing?

We have the tools... we can make you better, stronger, fas... No wait. That's something else.

Seriously though... if there is some interest, I would be happy to get out the gear and do a little belaying if some folks wanted to climb at this years cook-out. (provided it does not interfere with Ca$h-n-gun$, or it is not BLAZING hot)

Hmmmmm, would anyone be interested in playing some crazy Munchkin Varient on Friday night starting at 8? I was thinking of running

MUNCHKINS OF THE MULTIVERSE!

The Multiverse is in peril!! A deranged wizard has foolishly used the Munchkinomicon to unleash a spell that is destroying the Multiverse and the Good Fairy has decided to intervene! They are holding a challenge to determine the greatest hero from across all the planes and YOU have been chosen as the greatest warrior on your plane of existance. You must prove that you are capable of stopping the wizard by slaying monsters in your plane until you reach level 10. However there are many others worlds and many other heros who are also attempting to prove themselves in much the same fashion! To make things worse, the barriers between these realities are starting to break down and bleed into each other. This may affect them all in strange ways!

I stole this idea from RichNCrispy from Boardgamegeek.com

Basically, everyone will have their own version of Munchkin in front of them and will draw from the door and treasure piles of their own version. So if you choose Star Munchkin, you will draw from solely from the Star Munchkin version. However, if you play monster enhancers on other players and they defeat the monster, they get to draw "X" treasures from your stack where "X" is equal to the number of treasures your enhancers added to the fight.

You may trade items as normal between players and may help as normal.

There will be prizes.

The following planes of existence are currently being threatened and you may choose which one you wish to be from. (I.E. pick the version of Munchkin you want to play)

A world of heros, villians, sidekicks and capes.....so many capes!! (Super Munchkin: Comic Book Themed)
A world of highly advanced technology where cyborgs, mutants, and cat people live in peace.....with lasers! (Star Munchkin: Sci-Fi themed)
A world as wild and a west as you've ever seen. 10 to 20 gallon hats are in fashion. (The Good, the Bad, and the Munchkin; Western themed)
A world filled with Ninja, Oni, Wire-fu and Hong Kong everything!! (Munchkin Fu: Kung Fu movie themed)
A world filled with espianage, spies, and many useful gadgets (Munchkin Impossible: spy movie themed)
A world soaked in the seven seas where pirates battle for treasure with crazy accents (Munchkin Booty: Pirate Themed)
A world in which being from beyond time and space roam freely to trouble mankind (Munchkin Cthulhu: ...you can guess the theme)
A world of legend in origin where myths are reality (Munchkin Legends: themed from many mythologies)
The Land of Ooo (Adventure Time Munchkin: its.......well.....hard to explain unless you've seen the show)
A world the is already on the verge of destruction as the seven seals of the apocalpyse threaten to open (Munchkin Apocalypse: End of the World Themed)

A world in which darkness runs rampant and vampires, werewolves, and mummy's roam free (Munchkin Bites: Goth/horror themed)
and last but not least
A world of high fantasy, filled with elves, dragons, dwarves, centaurs and much much more (Munchkin: based on high fantasy genre's Warning: I have ALL the major and most minor expansions for this game, this version is not for newbies!)

Let me know if anyone is interested.

Not at all - come on out!

The registration window is for budgeting and what we can promise in terms of "swag". I.e., late registrants may or may not get our cool giveaway (if we didn't order enough, say) and/or a custom badge (if we've already printed them). But it's not a hard cut-off or anything.

I can tell you that, in this case, you should be good on all fronts.

Which reminds me, I still need to design this year's badges. Dang, I'm slacking this year.

Which also reminds me, is there interest out there this year for my Little Fears game (http://trogland.penguinsushi.com/events/33_Little_Fears_Simons_Things) saturday night?

Chambers - I sent you a message (sorry for the delay) which should have everything to get you set.

Badge design is almost done, still tweaking it a little. If you want an avatar on your badge and you have not provided one to me, contact me with that ASAFHP!!!. (badges are printed at 500dpi. this means, in order for it to look best, your avatar image should ideally be between 1000 and 1500 px on a side. If you can't manage that, just go with "bigger is better". Also, the avatars are "floating", so transparent pngs are preferable to jpgs or (shudder) actual photos. Edit: congratulations, Rabbit, you no longer have the lowest-quality avatar!!)

Edit:

I don't have registrations for the following "confirmed" people (and I don't know that we've heard form them lately):

gr8artist
Moosebite
Recaiden
Treehawk

....and have all the "+1"s registered?

Yeah, most avatars are distributed for web only. If they were made in something like Illustrator, the artist should be able to export them at whatever resolution is desired - though that assumes the artist is available.

If all else fails, I can scale up whatever image you want. About half of the people I get images for just give me web-resolution images, and this is what I have to do with them. The images get pretty pixelated at that resolution (really its the edges that are the worst), but it's usually more fun than nothing.

Carpe Astra - A game of intrigue and politics. In space.

We're doing this on friday night instead of saturday this year due to the primary venue being unavailable (main gaming hall will be available saturday and sunday). I assume we'll begin mustering there around dinner time - somewhere between 5 and 7.

For those who haven't been to Trogland in the past, we're basically taking over a large portion of the place for the evening. We do have the hotel space all day saturday (and there has been talk of some people hanging out there either way), so I would say that is our back-up plan (at least in terms of location, not sure about food).

Historically, we've been there rain or shine, though we haven't had a set-in, constant downpour situation as yet. Usually when you see '90% chance of rain' around here, that basically means "there's a 90% chance it will rain at some point during the day for an hour or less, and will probably be partly cloudy most of the rest of the day".. Exceptions exist, but hopefully we'll be lucky.

Photos are up on the Bookface!

Mauve - I don't recall seeing any extras lying around... ...did anyone else find it? They were all snapped up pretty fast, but I'm sure one of us can find one for you next year in any case...

I'm torn about all those pictures...

On one hand, they're awesome and show off Trogland wonderfully...

On the other, they remind me that I wasn't there.

Next Year!

*sigh*

back to work.

I'd like to thank the committee for their usual top class planning.
and The De's for putting up with a brit staying with them.

I could separate this out to individual shout-outs but you all know how cool you are and frankly I did that last time.

I hope you all enjoyed the Britishness of Pimms and the sweets.

until next time guys/gals.

I just want to thank everyone for all that they did to make this year a success. I don't just mean the staff, but seriously, they did A LOT, but also every attendee. Due to numerous factors this year was rough to organize and things suffered a bit. We didn't have the excess funds for the giveaway :smallfrown: and poor Reinholdt's birthday didn't get the attention it deserves:smallfrown: but, nobody complained! Everyone focused on the positive and we had so much positive! I just love that about all of you!! You're all so fun to have around.

I want to thank everyone who played and gave feed back for Munchkins of the Multiverse. I've passed the results along to other M.I.B.s in Steve Jackson't organization!

I finally got to experience the greatness that was Dead of Winter and got to learn lots about Dark Gothic. I think I played something else new, but I can't remember what it was now.

Overall, I just want to reiterate how much it means to me that you all are so wonderful to host a convention for!

There was no singing. And people only got to celebrate by being sent to the hospital.
It got exactly the amount of attention it deserved. :smallcool:

I said it while I was still there, and I'll say it again. I thought the Trogland meet/convention was great, and I'm so hapy I finally made it across the pond. I wish I'd have been able to do it sooner, and now I want to start saving to go back next year, even if it might not be possible.

The Munchkins of the Multiverse game was great, and when the post-midnight rule came into effect where we could spoil things for the players in the other game, that just brought another level of awesome to the proceedings. Being able to screw with someone not even in your own game was great.
I will let you know how things turn out when we try it at my local game shop. I'll also try to introduce it to another game shop a little further away, as I think they'll like it there as well.

I finally got to experience the greatness that was Dead of Winter and got to learn lots about Dark Gothic. I think I played something else new, but I can't remember what it was now.

Dead of Winter is great, isn't it? I'm kind of sad I didn't get to play it, but I was tied up with something else at that time, or I'd have definitely joined.
Did you try It's Alive!? I can't remember who were i that game. I think the Turtle, Mauvey and the hippie were in it, but can't remember who the fifth was. If It's Alive! hadn't been out of print and not at all available to get hold of anymore, I'd have left my copy there for others to get to play, because it's a great little game that doesn't take too long to play.

Overall, I just want to reiterate how much it means to me that you all are so wonderful to host a convention for!

YOU GUYS ARE ALL AWESOME AND I WANT TO COME BACK! CAN WE DO IT AGAIN TOMORROW?

PS. mountain_faerie and I totally kicked butt in the 'Time's Up!' game, even if we may not have won. :smallwink:

I'm glad I was able to make it down. Trogland is the best convention, ever. I hate to ever miss any moment of it.

Mauve, if they can't find you a pint glass, I'll give you one of mine.

I ate the bag of Sourpatch Kids Lex gave me while I was hanging out at the beach yesterday, and thus my last part of Trogland has been consumed.
I'm not sure I'll make it again next year - still planning on Disney with a friend in November, and I've kind of promised to make it out to Germany?
Whoops.
But we'll see.

I was glad to see everyone and go shopping with Llama
it was a good year, I think.
