THE RULES

THE CLASSES AND THE ROLES

There are two classes: Nobility and Peasantry. There are also two alignments: Loyalists and Rebels.

NOBILITY
Emperor – The Emperor cannot be slain at night while Loyalist Imperial Guardsmen still live. The Emperor’s vote counts thrice. The Emperor cannot be converted.
Heir – The Heir becomes the Emperor upon the Emperor’s demise. The Heir’s vote counts twice.
Court-Appointed Investigator – The Court-Appointed Investigator has a night action.
Captain of the Guard – The Captain of the Guard has a night action. He is difficult to corrupt.
Imperial Guardsmen – The Imperial Guardsmen fight side by side and know each other well. They are difficult to corrupt.
Noble’s Consort – The Noble’s Consort is the lover of a Court Noble. Should that Court Noble die, the Noble’s Consort dies as well. The Noble’s Consort knows the identity of his Court Noble. The Noble’s Consort cannot join the Rebels unless his Court Noble is already a Rebel.
Court Noble

PEASANTRY
Curious Peasant – The Curious Peasant has a night action.
Drunkard – The Drunkard thinks he or she is the Curious Peasant. The Drunkard has a night action.
Lovers – The fates of the lovers are intertwined. Should one die, so too the other.
Peasant

REBELS
Rebel Leader – The Rebel Leader picks the Rebel Soldiers and the Rebel Spy. The Rebel Leader appears as a Loyalist Peasant when spied upon.
Rebel Spy – The Rebel Spy has a night action.
Rebel Soldier

THE ACTIONS

DAY
The Peasantry, both Loyalist and Rebel, incite a lynch mob each day, choosing to kill one person.

The Nobles, both Loyalist and Rebel, meet in court each day, choosing to execute one person.

All votes are made communally. They are tallied separately.

NIGHT
The Rebel Leader can send his Rebel Soldiers to assassinate one person or to convert one person to the Rebel Forces.

The Rebel Spy can follow one person to determine that player’s class and role.

The Court-Appointed Investigator and the Curious Peasant may each follow one person to determine that player’s alignment and class, but not the player’s role.

The Drunkard can follow one person but, due to his or her drink-addled mind, decides upon a random alignment and class.

The Captain of the Guard protects one person from assassination each night.

ACHIEVING VICTORY

BY CLASS AND ALIGNMENT
The Loyalist Nobility wins by eliminating all of the Rebels.
The Loyalist Peasantry wins by surviving the rebellion until it ends.
The Rebels win by eliminating all Loyalist Nobles or by placing a Rebel Heir on the throne.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
The Heir wins if his alignment wins and he has succeeded the Emperor.
The Imperial Guardsmen win if their alignment wins and an Emperor or the Rebel Leader is still alive.
The Court Nobles win if their alignment wins and an Emperor is no longer alive.

OTHER NOTES

CONVERSION
To convert someone, the Rebel Leader must send me the name a person they choose to convert and a decision of whether or not to attack on a refused invitation. I will then send the person who is to be converted an invitation. Should the person refuse and the Rebels have chosen to attack, there is a 20% chance of the person being slain, a 10% chance of a random rebel being slain, and a 10% chance of a random Rebel being unmasked in the ensuing battle. If the person is playing a role with the “difficult to corrupt” description, there is a 20% chance of the attempt automatically failing.

AUTOLYNCHING
Failure to vote for two consecutive days will result in an automatic death.

Joos, are you co-narrating, then?

Joosbawx

Whoa...what? Um...sure, I can co-narrate instead of play if you need someone. If that's the case, I'll probably back outof playing in the games for a bit since I'll be running Mafia III alone and co-narrating Rebellion and WWCIV. But I'm down for that.

Alarra

At the dawn of the 19th century, in France, the lower classes are being horribly abused by those in higher social positions. As the pressure on them increases, frightening ideas begin to circulate unspoken, almost a whisper on the wind. But when the city guard stumble across the corpse of Cobra Ikari, a nobleman notorious for his maltreatment of the workers, a panic breaks loose. Arrests are made. Innocents are killed. And the whispers of "revolution" become a fire in the hearts of a few courageous souls.

((Synopsis: Welcome to Rebellion II! I'm sorry about the late start. Anyway, this is the start of Day 1, which lasts until 4:00 PM EST on Tuesday, May 1st. Enjoy yourselves!

*Some scared peasants desperate to have protection in these crazy times of trouble, sneak into the cemetery and begin a ritual found only in a dark book hidden away in the back corner of a library. They find a grave marked "Atreyu, Hero of his people." Assuming him to be a great french warrior, they begin a ritual to raise him from the dead and bind him to their will as a guardian.*

*As they finish the spell, the ground beneath them stirs and a half decayed hoof breaks through the ground. In shocked horror, they watch the zombified llama emerge from the soil and stand before them, awaiting their commands*

2007-04-29, 04:38 PM
Alarra meanders down the street carefully, keeping clear of any debri that might be along the edges and carefully avoiding any mud that might mar her newly polished shoes, or spatter the edges of her gown. She listens to the rumors that are circulating around with increasing concern before she finally arrives near the llama. "Good lord, what has happened to that poor creature?"

Orzel scrolls down a dirty street, stepping over things he wishes not to knownof. His religous symbols sway with his steps on thin strings and yarns. After adjusting a simple metal ring on his finger, he stops his feet short to examine the odd animals passing by. "I've seen worse back in Spain."

Atreyu the Masked LLama

*The peasants look at the obviously born lucky nobel woman and begin a sad tale of woe for their poor horse.*

"This is our farm horse, Dartanian. He was recently gravely injured while fighting off some rebels that tried to kill us. We don't have the money to afford care so we are afraid he'll die. That's why we brought him to the graveyard. He's one of the family, so we decided we'd bury him like one if he doesn't make it."

Alarra
2007-04-29, 04:57 PM
"Well, that's very considerate of you. Best of luck." She turns and walks on, afraid that if she stays much longer they'll begin asking her for money, or worse, that she'll give it to them.

Atreyu the Masked LLama
2007-04-29, 05:05 PM
"I thought she'd give us money. "
"you didn't ask her too."
You have to work up to these things"
"you didn't work fast enough. Of course if you worked faster, we wouldn't be peasants."
"Ummm....we have a problem. Dartanian is hungry."

The llambie growls as it pounces on a fox that was slinking through the cemetery and fatally bites it with a loud CRUNCH! As the trio watches, the beast begins munching on the tasty insides of the fox. Shortly after, the little fox sits up and begins following the llama.

2007-04-30, 12:18 AM
Down the road I moved, mindful of the puddles and the mud, striving to keep up with the passage of the bread wagon. A terrible terrible day, or so I'd been told.

"Mon dieu, by the glory of France, what is happening," I muttered softly under my breath as I passed knots of people in the street. I brushed off my cravat, found myself passing the Lady Alarra.

"Troubled afternoon, good lady," I murmured, cutting a quarter bow. I moved alongside and slightly to the fore, where I could easily hear any reply she gave whilst at the same time keeping my expression to myself. The games of court were, of course, a spider's web and I knew not yet what her thoughts were on the Hugenots, not to mention the latest troubles brewing.

*The peasants command the llambie to walk with them back to their house. It follows obediently and the fox follows the llambie. The three peasants talk amongst themselves about what to do now. They fail to see the llambie get distracted and snap at the Castaras kitten in hunger.*

Helgraf
2007-04-30, 01:06 AM
"It's been a fairly dull year otherwise," he murmured in reply. "The vineyards are still turning a decent crop of grape. The farmlands have been spared the blights, so there's been plenty of food; which keeps the peasants happy - well, less unhappy might be more accurate; between the tithes for their immortal souls and the taxes that we pass along to L'Empeurer it's still a hard life."

He pauses, turns. "Ahh, Inspector Javert ... a pleasure to see you performing your duties with such pussiance. How fares Paris?"

Lord Iames Osari
2007-04-30, 01:17 AM
"Paris fares as it always does these days. Fear is everywhere, of the law, of the rebels... The guard have already apprehended everyone we knew or strongly suspected of rebelliousness, but those we haven't executed have so far refused to talk, and it's said on the street that the rebels' leader is still at large. We're back to the beginning, I'm afraid."

Alarra

A small peasant girl stare at Orzel with open hands. He pretends not to see and drops a single coin nearby. Orzel then adjusts his ring again, this time revealing a small shimmering jewel. A small pat dusts his crosses and charms to reveal their golden shine.

"It seems my attempts to go unnoticed has failed." he says as he places an exotic hat on this head. "I might as well share my souvenirs of exploration. A tale of North Africa might cheer up the courts in these times of gloom."

Strategos walks into town from the farmland he works on not far away. He had just walked past the graveyard when he sees three other people talking to each other, and some kind of odd looking horse. He watches on in horror as the creature attacks a passing fox. He tightens the pitchfork he bought with him tightly in his hands. He is just about to attack the creature when the deceased fox suddenly springs back up. Now in a state of panic he stays perfectly still, hoping that it doesn't notice him, he could probably take on the beast if it were a normal weird horse thing, but a supernatural weird horse thing is something else entirely. When it snaps at a passing cat Strategos decides that helping the creature with a taste for fox-flesh is a very good idea. To this end he points his pitchfok at Castaras hoping that the creature won't bite him while he does so.

Arise, we children of the fatherland,
The day of glory has arrived!
Against us, tyranny
Has raised its bloodied banner
Do you hear in the fields
The howling of these fearsome soldiers?
They are coming into your midst
To slit the throats of your sons, your wives!

To arms, citizens!
Form your battalions!
Let us march, let us march!
May impure blood
Soak our fields' furrows!

Enjoy yourselves!))

After running several blocks, and turning a couple of corners he looks behind himself to see if anything's following him. He then becomes aware of music being played nearby. He wanders over to the lute player and listens as he sings a song.

Arise, we children of the fatherland,
The day of glory has arrived!
Against us, tyranny
Has raised its bloodied banner
Do you hear in the fields
The howling of these fearsome soldiers?
They are coming into your midst
To slit the throats of your sons, your wives!

To arms, citizens!
Form your battalions!
Let us march, let us march!
May impure blood
Soak our fields' furrows!

((Cookie up for grabs.))

He gives one of the few coins he bought with him to the musician. "it's a fine song and all sir, but in these dark times of rebellion and zombie attacks, perhaps a lighter song is in order? How about using the tune at the beginning of a song about love, and how it's all we need?" He asks.

Supagoof re-tighten the strings on his lute, then begins another song.

I have a smile stretched from ear to ear
To see you walking down the road,
We meet in the nights, I stare for a while,
The forum around us disappears.

Just you and me on my island of hope,
The net between us could be miles.
Let me be surrounded, by the warmth of your touch,
Let me be the calm you seek.

Oh, but every time I'm close to you,
I lose the words inside my head,
And you just walk away.

And I forgot to tell you I love you.
And the night's too long and cold
Here without you.
I grieve inside
For I cannot find words
To say I need you so.

And I forgot to tell you I love you.

So how about that one. Let me tell you I don't mind if you use it to woo the lady of your heart, let me tell you. It certainly helped me win my lady's heart. But perhaps just a lighter tune all around.....

Rip it up
Move down
Rip it up
Move it down to the ground
Rip it up
Cool down
Rip it up
And get the feeling not the word.

Everyone Wang Chung tonight

A small trial convenes in the courts of the upper class. Soon after, soldiers and policemen are dispatched throughout the city. Four of them enter a small shop nearby and leave dragging the butcher van der Decken off in irons. He protests, to no avail; after disappears into the nearby jail, he is never seen again. The police soon return an ransack the small shop, but they fail to unearth anything suspicious.

After watching the innocent butcher being led to his death, the people of the town convene is a small assembly of their own. Many ideas are thrown forward, the most popular of which involves getting rid of the llambie roaming the streets. This plan comes to a screeching halt when someone points out that no one knows how to kill an undead llama. After much talk, but little action, the assembly dissolves for the night.

You're pointing for your life inside a killer, thriller tonight

You hear a door slam and realize the rebel's someone come to kill us today
You feel the cold hand and wonder how long this game you'll be allowed to play
Don't close your eyes
and hope that this is just your imagination
But all the while
The creature creepin' up from behind
We're out of time

'Cause this is thriller, thriller night
There ain't no second chance against the beast with four legs
You know it's thriller, thriller night
You're pointing for your life inside a killer, thriller tonight

At night the rebel creatures call
The dead start to walk in their masquerade
There's no escapin' the jaws of the alien llambie this time
This is the end of your life
They're out to get you,
there's zombies closing in on every side
They will possess you,
unless you change the finger to someone else,
Now is the time for you and I to bandwagon along together
All thru the night it might save you from the terrors on the PC
To make you see

That it's a thriller, thriller night
'Cause they can thrill you more than any ghost who would dare to try
Yes, this is thriller, thriller night
So let me point away and get a killer, diller, chiller
Thriller here tonight

The noble courts meet again in an effort to quell the rebellion, but rampant suspicions and accusations lead to it quickly adjourning for the day, with no conclusions reached.

Later that day, a small rebel council convenes. Still andgry about the murder of the honest butcher Decken, they decide to storm a noble house and confront the lord of the manor. When they get there, they find not the host of the house, but instead Helgraf, clad in dark clothing. Thinking the man to be an assassin, they quickly fall upon him and beat him senseless. Searching his robes, they find not the dagger they expected, but instead a love letter. It seems that Helgraf was harmless. Unfortunately, he quickly dies of the wounds sustained in subduing him. He is buried hastily and the crowd of peasants dissipates.

((Synopsis: Helgraf, a Noble's Consort, was lynced by the peasants. No one was lynched by the nobles. Night falls, and dawn will break at 1 AM on Sunday.))

The undead slayer awakens in the late afternoon the following day.
He stumbles as he decends the stairway towards the common room of the Inn.
"You look a bit peekish today, you do," says the barmaid. "Breakfast ended hours ago, hun, but can I get you a snadwhich or somethin'?"
"Thank you but no. I've been sick all morning. I don't think that I could hold anything down right now."
The slayer of the undead fox (for that's all the undead that he's ever killed in his life) makes his way out into the cloudy street.
The clouds break for a moment and he shields his eyes from the glare.
"I have to find that damned unclean kitten Castaras and find out what it's done to me. And soon, I fear. Maybe I should be looking for a healer instead."
A fit of wretched coughing overtakes the traveller from the East and he falls to the ground, hacking blood up from his lungs.

Oh, sorry sir. I didn't realize your suffer from fits of blackout spells as the rest of us do. I'm certain yours are more frequent ((or in other words happen when the boards are running sluggishly)) then ours. I shall make a song about it, goes a little something like this.

((To the tune of Bob Dylan's Mr. Tamborine Man))

Hey! Mr. Xaspian, I'll play a song for thee,
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.
Hey! Mr. Xaspian, I'll play a song for thee,
In the lurky murky morning we'll find some rebels too.

Though I know that evenin's empire has returned it's grand,
Wish I could hold it in hand,
Left me singing here to stand but still not sleeping.
My weariness amazes me, I'm resting on my feet,
I have no one to meet
And the city's empty streets are with dead or I'm dreaming.

Hey! Mr. Xaspian, I'll play a song for thee,
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.
Hey! Mr. Xaspian, I'll play a song for thee,
In the lurky murky morning we'll find some rebels too.

Take me on a trip upon which evil want to skip,
My senses have been stripped, my hands can't feel to grip,
My toes too numb to get upp, wait only for my boot heels
To be lute playin'.
I'm ready to go if need be, I'm ready for to hide
Into my own charade, don't send no undead over my way,
I promise loyalty to the emperor's pride.

Hey! Mr. Xaspian, I'll play a song for thee,
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.
Hey! Mr. Xaspian, I'll play a song for thee,
In the lurky murky morning we'll find some rebels too.

Though you might hear moanin, groanin', goin' madly across the town,
It's not aimed at anyone, it's just havin' a bit of fun
And but for the animals there are no undead humans.
Yet if you hear vague traces of heels draggin on the ground,
To home you must go now, it's just safer there from the sound,
I would pay it attention mind, it's just Shadow you're
Seein' that he's chasing zombie's aroun'.

Hey! Mr. Xaspian, I'll play a song for thee,
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.
Hey! Mr. Xaspian, I'll play a song for thee,
In the lurky murky morning we'll find some rebels too.

Then take me disappearin' through the smoke rings of my mind,
Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves,
The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach,
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow.
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free,
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands,
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves,
Let me forget about today until tomorrow.

Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.
Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.

Alas good sir, that is not a tune or dialect I'm familiar with. Though my travels as a bard have taken me far and wide, I still perform all my singing in the emperor's land's native tongue.

Though it seems that another performance perhaps is in order, and since you have taken an interest, perhaps another song about the happenings in the village then?

[Perform song to tune of Nickelback’s - If Everyone Cared.]

From underneath this tree, I watch the sky
For shooting stars amongst the night
I never dreamed that I'd be right
But here I am, testing my thoughts tonight

Singing Amen, I, I'm alive
Singing Amen, I, I'm alive

But once you get bit, then you can’t have died
The zombies walk, when they should have lied
If everyone watched and avoided their side
Then we'd see the day when nobody died

And I'm singing

Amen I, Amen I, I'm alive
Amen I, Amen I, Amen I, I'm alive

And in the air the fireflies
Show the light in the night
The undead roaming the streets are wrong
And teach them all to sing along

Singing Amen, I, I'm alive
Singing Amen, I, I'm alive
(I'm alive)

But once you get bit, then you can’t have died
The zombies walk, when they should have lied
If everyone watched and avoided their side
Then we'd see the day when nobody died

But once you get bit, then you can’t have died
The zombies walk, when they should have lied
If everyone watched and avoided their side
Then we'd see the day when nobody died

And as I sleep beneath the stars
I realize how small we are
If zombies could live like you and me
Imagine what this world could be

But once you get bit, then you can’t have died
The zombies walk, when they should have lied
If everyone watched and avoided their side
Then we'd see the day when nobody died

We'd see the day, we'd see the day
When nobody died
We'd see the day, we'd see the day
When nobody died
We'd see the day when nobody died.

[/end performance]

The fact is that I have NEVER been the victim of first day lynching..so I thought it was time. by your post a alone, you have either given the rebels something to work off of, or given the nobility something to work off of - I can't guess what, but I would venture that either will use to their advantage....and that won't be advantagous to you,

and as narrator, you can use your undead cat in the scenes ahead,

and I would also suggest if you take on the narrator role, you could assign your role to someone who doesn't have one....thus taking the advantage you've given away from either side?

though I could do that as well, if anyone wants me to take over as narrator :smallwink: ))

If you all would like, I think we can arrange it so that I can at least continue updating. I probably won't have the flavor of the original narrator but I can at least help keep track of who's doing what with whom. It's a thought.))

((Okay, I'm accepting PM's with people's roles. It might take a little bit for everyone to see this and respond so be a little patient till we can get the wheels rolling again. I will respond when I've gotten your message so that you'll know I got it.))

I've heard from about half of the remaining players at this point. I'd ask that even if you've been killed or you think that someone has already passed on your information that you still send me a PM letting me know what your role/class/alignment is so that I can scrub it against what I've got already.

Thanks to all of you who've PM'd me already. I hope to get this going again soon.

UPDATE: I have almost all of the information I need. There are still (I think) seven live players that haven't contacted me to let me know their role/alignment/class. Unfortunately, a fair share of these have important roles. Everyone I still need information from has a PM from me waiting in their inbox. Once I get these roles figured out, we can continue.

Thanks for your patience while we get this sorted.

I still haven't heard back from the last few people. Here's what I'm going to do:

We will continue on from this point. If someone posts that I haven't heard from yet, I'll need to get a PM about their role/class/alignment before their vote counts. We'll start fresh with the standard "two day-no vote" autolynch rule. I will arbitrarily call this new day Day 5.

What this does is let you all get to pointing again while at the same time giving the stragglers a little more time to get back to me. I'm going to ignore the previous day's points and basically start the day over again. Of course any discussion that had gone on before is still valid and encouraged to be referenced.

Barring any objections to this decision, you may begin pointing and discussing now.

Day 5 begins now and will end at 7:00am EST on Sunday, May 20th.

((We were on Day 3, fyi... man this is gonna screw up my spreadsheet...))((I know it was Day 3, but I figured I'd account for the length of time that's passed since The Absence began. I can change it if it's really going to be a problem.))

More updates...

First, I've extended the day to last until Sunday morning as a result of today's nearly day long forum outage. My goal is to give participants two full days to interact and decide on who they feel is the person to lynch.

Second, Vonriel has volunteered to co-narrate this game with me, so any further correspondence should go to both of us. Thanks, Vonriel!

The kitten guestures with a paw to Hyram Graff, before snuggling up next to the undead slayer, purring.

The undead slayer still lays unconscious in the hole. When Castaras creeps up next to him and begins purring, she also laps at his face with her sandpaper like tongue.

Layers of skin come away with each concurrent lick.

The traveller begins to stir.
When he comes to, he sees the undead kitten cleaning his dirty face and jumps up, fully awake and aware.
"Someone help! The monster is going to eat my brains! Help me out of here!"

The inept undead slayer then reaches into his pouch for his whiskey flask to take a sip.
His mouth begins to smoke and he sreams.

He spits the remainder of the mouthful out and as some lands on Castaras, she begins to smoke too.
"Aaaaaaahh!!!
Damn!
What was that, acid?"
He looks at the bottle.
"Holy water....?
What's happening to me?"

The newly undead undead slayer gestures at Zar Peter.
"You there. Help me out of here, I beg," as he begins to frantically claw his way towards the top of the hole.

((I need to check my notes to remember what the heck is going on.))
