"My hunger for souls is now insatiable. I've had my fill of mortals. Now I want to feast on the darkest, most powerful soul imaginable. I will become all-powerful. There will be no escaping my wrath. Let the world beware!" ~ Mr. Grimm, Twisted Metal 3

The Trofodotis

During the war between Titan and Lawgiver, eons after the Abomination, there was one… thing that took no side. It fought no battle, waged no war but nonetheless, was there. It was called The Feeder and it was little more than a parasite, consuming the fallen. Titan, Lawgiver, it mattered not to The Feeder.

Of course, the Feeder did not simply consume the flesh of the fallen, but rather the very ESSENCE of the dead. How many lesser Titans and Lawgivers became the prey of the Feeder? None can say. But even in that fledgling universe, others would rise in their place. Giving the Feeder ever more prey.

But the Lawgivers were not stupid nor the Titans unaware. They knew the Feeder was around, parasitising the dead to sustain his own narrative. The Titans sought to wipe him out, while the Lawgivers hoped to capture him, weaponise him against his brethren. But the Feeder was far slyer than they thought.

He fought and consumed the lesser kin who came to slay him and evaded the lawgivers who came to ensnare him. He did this with weapons, knowledge and skills taken from his prey and any harm that came to him, that, too, was repaired with the narrative power of his meals. In this way, the Feeder was never truly captured.

Not until the end, at least, when all Titans were defeated and their narrative flesh was split, so too was the Feeder caught, shackled and woven into the universe. There, like his split kin, his blood gathered into the hearts of mortals, creating ravenous creatures, whose unending appetite can only be satiated by one thing.
The souls of the dead.

The Feeder’s Mythos: A Trofodotis’ power is Expressed in terms of one or more "Mythos", the building blocks of the legend that they are, and the stories that they have told and will tell. While any given Mythos varies from the rest, they share some similar traits. They are always Extraordinary abilities, and when they reference a difficulty class for an imposed saving throw, that saving throw is always calculated as (10 + 1/2 class level + Charisma modifier, unless otherwise stated). When a Mythos references a "level" that is not clearly defined in some other way, such as "character level", it refers to "class level" as in the number of levels one has in the Trofodotis class. When a Mythos references "allies", it specifically does not refer to the Trofodotis using it. When a Mythos grants a feat as a bonus feat, it is regardless of whether the character meets the prerequisites for that feat (unless otherwise stated), and if the character already possesses that feat (in some permanent fashion - via the normal allotment gained by leveling up, or through another Mythos, and so on, but not those gained temporarily, such as via a "Heroics" spell), they must replace the prior instance of that feat with another feat that they qualify for.

Every Mythos has a Tier. The Tier of a Mythos ranges from 1 to 4, typically referred to as Exceptional, Fantastic, Legendary, and Exalted. Exceptional Mythos tell of opportunistic parasites who lurk behind armies and warzones in search of the dying or freshly dead in the hopes of an easy meal, petty killers who slay their mortal prey with no more regard than a hunter would at killing a deer. Fantastic Mythos tell of would-be predators, beings whose strength is enough that the weak fall before them and their souls become food. Legendary Mythos tell of fearless hunters, reavers who slay whole villages and feast on the souls of the fallen victims. Exalted Mythos tell of mighty wraiths, slaughtering their way through countless foes, their gluttony as much as their need, forcing them to consume ever more souls.

Some Mythos, in addition to their initial stated effect, have Basic and Advanced manifestations. When a Trofodotis gains access to a Mythos with a list of Basic manifestations, they may choose one such manifestation, and they gain that benefit immediately as well. This choice may not be changed later. When a Trofodotis gains access to a Mythos with a list of Advanced manifestations, they may choose one such manifestation, and they gain that benefit upon achieving their next level of Trofodotis. This choice may be changed at any point before receiving the chosen manifestation itself, but not after (choosing beforehand is just an easy way to mark it down on your character sheet so you don't forget that you'll be getting something later).

Mythos Known
A 1st level Trofodotis begins play with two Exceptional Mythos that he qualifies for if this is his first level in a PC character class. At higher levels, he gains additional Mythos as noted on the Trofodotis class table.
For characters that multiclass into Trofodotis after having taken levels in another PC character class, the 1st level of Trofodotis grants only a single Exceptional Mythos, rather than two.

A Trofodotis also has the ability to learn more Mythos, above the ones automatically allotted to him by leveling up by performing certain tasks. A Trofodotis has the option of draining a Magical Item of the life force used to create it, as if he were feeding off the soul of a slain creature, although he gains none of the benefits of doing so. Draining an item in this manner turns it into a mundane item, albeit one of masterwork quality, that can be enchanted again. The Drained item’s gold piece value is recouped to you as an equal number of Mythos points.
By spending 1,000 Mythos Points, and 250xp, a Trofodotis may learn an Exceptional Mythos. A Fantastic Mythos requires 5,000 Mythos Points and 500xp. A Legendary Mythos takes 10,000 Mythos Points, and 1,000xp. And an Exalted Mythos takes 20,000 Mythos Points and 2,000xp.

For half the listed price for a given Tier, a Trofodotis may learn a Basic or Advanced manifestation of a Mythos they already know of that Tier.

Learning Mythos above the standard amount requires astounding, nearly single-minded devotion to the story of the Trofodotis. One may only utilize this ability while more than half of his effective character level (ECL) is devoted to levels in the Trofodotis class.

Excellence in Consumption: As denoted on their class table, a Trofodotis gains a certain number of abilities known as "Excellencies". These tend to be more general, generic, and passive than a Mythos, but are useful nonetheless, and are drawn from their own separate list, unsegregated by Tiers. Like a Mythos, a Trofodotis may learn more Excellencies above their allotted amount. Each one costs 1,000 Mythos Points and 100xp, plus an additional 1,000 Mythos Points and 100xp for each time a new Excellency is innovated beyond the first. (So, 2,000mp and 200xp for the second, 3,000mp and 300xp for the third, etc.)

Feed (EX): The most basic feature of the Trofodotis is its ability to feed on the souls of the dying and recently dead. This is referred to as Feed, Feeding, etc. Consume is also used from time-to-time, but it generally refers to this ability.
Whenever a creature within (20ft + 5ft per level) drops to -1 HP (AKA: Dying) or dies (Or a creature that has been dead for no longer than 2 + Class Level rounds enters the range) you may spend a Standard Action, that provokes AoOs, to consume the soul. Doing so kills the creature instantly.

The creature the soul belongs to cannot be raised or resurrected for 24 hours, as its soul passes through your, at this level, rudimentary digestive system. After this time, the creature can be raised or resurrected normally. Except that the Level Lost due to resurrection causes the creature to revert to the minimum XP required for their new level, rather than the midpoint of the level, as is standard.

Unless otherwise stated "Hit Dice", especially in the context of a Feeding, refers to the Hit Dice the creature you are Feeding upon had in life.

When you Feed upon a creature, you recover 1d6 HP, per Hit Dice.

You may feed on any number of Souls in range at a time.

If you do not require healing, either before a Feeding or during, you instead gain 5 Temporary Hit Points per Hit Dice. The benefits of a Feeding only last an hour, but if you Feed again before the hour is up, the benefits last an extra hour and you stack on more.

You may only gain Bonuses from a number of Hit Dice equal to (your Cha Mod + Level) in a single 24 Hour period, but there is otherwise no limit to the Temporary Hit Dice you can get during this time. You may Heal as much as you like, however.

Additionally, whenever you Feed, you do not need food, water or sleep for 24 hours.

Although Outsiders and Elementals do not possess souls that are separate from their body, they can still be Fed upon. Despite the fact Undead do not have “souls” per sey, you may still feed on the Negative Energy that sustains them as if it were a soul.

Exceptional
Creating the Sword of Souls
Prerequisite: –

The Feeder was quite active, during the war. He saw death, decay, creation and corruption. But most of all, the Feeder was there when the first Iron Sword was made. The Feeder became enthralled by this weapon, by its ability to slay ever more efficiently, thus he followed its creator until the creator’s inevitable death and fed upon his knowledge. What the Feeder discovered was that he could not comprehend creation. It was anathema the consumptive gluttony that he WAS. But in that moment of horror, another thought occurred to the Feeder. The essence of the sword’s creator still swam within him and so, through an effort of will, the Feeder forced the creator to make him a sword, but all it had to work with was himself. And thusly, a sword was made, of the very essence of the creator of the first Iron Sword.

When you take this Mythos, you create a sword (or other weapon, the appearance is inconsequential and can even be changed at any point) made of pure soul. This sword uses your Charisma Modifier for Attack rolls and has a “Base Damage” of 1d6 per two levels + charisma modifier. The sword otherwise functions as an ordinary weapon, albeit one of Masterwork quality. It is treated as a slashing, piercing or bludgeoning weapon or not treated as any of them; whatever is most beneficial to you at the time. Additionally, it is treated as a Light, One Handed or Two Handed weapon, whatever is most beneficial at the time. (Although it is only ever “wielded” in one hand.)

You may “equip” or “sheath” the sword as a Free Action, as it simply emanates from you, but even while "equipped" it does not impede you in any way.

Because of the nature of the sword, it cannot be disarmed or sundered, although you can use your sword to do both to real objects.
If you make the killing blow with the Sword, you may instantly Feed as a free action. This also allows attacks with the Sword to be substituted when a Mythos requires you to use a Standard Action to Feed or make a Save that would lead to a Feeding. But only once per round.

The Sword is a glowing, spectral weapon, glowing different colours dependent on what sort of damage it deals (See Blade of Frost and Flame). This glow is not great enough to be used as a light source, nor does it "affect" your ability to hide.

Basic

The Sword Hungers: Whenever you have the chance to Feed on a creature slain with the Sword, you may instead have your Sword absorb the soul of your opponent, provided it has 2HD or more. If you do, then the absorbed creature loses a level and the Experience points required to get to that level, as per the PHB, (For example, level 1 to level 2 is 1000xp, while Level 5-6 is 5000xp) are granted to the sword. This is otherwise identical to a normal Feeding. The Level taken by this Mythos is actually the Level lost when a creature is Raised or Resurrected and so do not lose additional levels when brought back to life. (Even though True Res doesn't cause Level Loss inherently, the Level is still taken.)

Experience absorbed by the Sword may be “spent” to enchant it, as if the XP were gold pieces. The exception to this are the various “Energy damage” enchantments (Flame, Frost, etc) including the “Holy”, “Unholy”, “Axiomatic” and “Anarchic” properties. In addition, the basic “Weapon Bonus” Enchantment actually grants XD6 extra damage, where X is the Weapon Bonus, rather than +1 or so.
By spending 1/4 the normal XP cost, you may change the weapon enchantments.

The Blade of Frost and Flame: At the start of each day, select a number of the following Types equal to your level: Acid, Cold, Electricity, Fire, Sonic, Force, Good, Evil, Lawful or Chaotic. Your sword deals damage as if it was a weapon of that type. Good, Evil, Lawful and Chaotic function as the Holy weapon property (You don’t take any penalties for mismatched alignment), or equivalent, rather than an Energy type.
You may switch the Energy type as a Swift action to any other you have selected that day, or to no type at all.

((C’mon, given the bloke who’s in the banner, did you REALLY think I’d pass this up?))

Although this Mythos, and later ones, makes heavy mention of a "sword", this Mythos does not ACTUALLY have to be a sword, as mentioned, but neither does it have to look like a weapon at all. You could have some animalistic claws, a ball of light or even just a blast of raw energy. However you fluff it, it is treated as an actual Weapon, though.

Soul Sword Mastery
Prerequisite: Creating The Soul Sword Mythos

You gain the Improved Disarm, Improved Feint and Mercurial Strike feats. Because of the Sword’s nature, you may use Mercurial Strike while the Soul Sword is “equipped”.

Basic:

With Only One Blade You gain The Einhander and Flick of the Wrist feats. You may use Flick of the Wrist and Off Hand Swap any number of times against one opponent, provided you use your Soul Sword.

The Speed of Soul You gain the Two Weapon Fighting and Improved Two Weapon Fighting feats. Because of the Sword’s nature, you may use it in conjunction with these feats. Additionally, while using these feats, you gain a bonus to the Attack Roll equal to your Cha mod.

Forcing Power From the Consumed
Prerequisite: –

When The Feeder preyed upon the Dead, he found that, for a time, he inherited a small portion of their power. This excited The Feeder. No more would he merely consume Narrative Essence, he would adopt their abilities. Using them to further his own gluttony.

When you Feed upon something, select a Supernatural or Spell-Like Ability it knows that does not have limited uses. This can be either a Special Attack or Special Quality of the creature. You may use this Ability as if you WERE that creature for 24 Hours. Although, you may substitute your own level in place of the creature’s Hit Dice, for the purposes of save DCs and such, if it’s higher.

Soul/Body Retroactive Replacement
Prerequisite: –

After you have Fed upon a soul, you may choose to disguise yourself as your prey. Doing so grants a +10 Bonus to Disguise checks made to look like your victim. However, unless you possess the “Reminisce upon the Prey’s Life" Excellency, you do not possess the knowledge to emulate them correctly. You retain this Disguise for as long as you desire, switching back and forth between it and your normal form. However, you may only have one Disguise at a time.

You must elect to use this Mythos as soon as you have Fed, but it otherwise does not interfere with the Feeding.

Consumptive Physical Reclamation
Prerequisite: –

Whenever you Feed, you may choose to heal One Point of Ability Damage per Hit Dice or, if you do not require Healing, gain a +1 Untyped Bonus, per Hit Dice, to any ability score of your choice.

Fantastic
Partake of the Weakening Soul
Prerequisite: –

During combat, you may select a single opponent within Feeding range. You may make a Standard Action to try and Feed off of their living soul. Your opponent must make a Will save, if they fail then they gain 1 Negative Level and you heal 1d6 HP (Or 1 point of Ability Damage, if you have Consumptive Physical Reclamation). If you slay an opponent via these Negative Levels, they do not rise as a Wight but are instead instantly Consumed.

Sacrosanct Repast of the Weak
Prerequisite: Partake of the Weakening Soul mythos

If a creature within Feeding range has less than 1/3 your Hit Dice, you may, as a Standard Action force it to make a Will Save. If it fails, you Feed on the creature, as if it were Dying. You may only affect one creature per round with this Mythos.

Sustained Armoury of the Soul
Prerequisite: Forcing Power From the Consumed Mythos

You may have a number of abilities equal to your Charisma modifier. In addition, you may retain the Abilities for as long as you desire.

Augmented Soul Gullet
Prerequisite: Consumptive Physical Reclamation

When you Feed, you may roll d8's, instead of d6's, to determine how much HP you restore. The other, numerical effects are doubled (Temp HP, Ability Point recovery/bonus, etc). Whenever someone attempts to use the "Raise Dead" spell on a creature you have Fed on, there is a (Level*5)% Chance that the spell fails and cannot be tried again. Resurrection and True Resurrection still function normally.

Bolster the Shimmering Blade
Prerequisite: Creating the Sword of Souls

Your Sword's Damage Dice become D8's. In addition, your attacks become Touch Attacks, ignoring Armour and Natural armour as you strike the creature's life force directly.

Each time you Feed on 5 Hit Dice, you gain a Token that can be used to power the following Manifestations:
(A "Token" is purely an OOC convention to make using these abilities easier)

Basic:

Augmented Assault of Elemental Prowess:

This Manifestation is, in fact, multiple different Manifestations, each taken separately. Apart from the first effect, which has no elemental link, all the other Manifestations require you to have the Sword of Frost and Flame manifestation.

To use one of the following abilities, you spend a Token as a Standard Action and make a Melee Attack against a target. If the attack hits, see the effect. Unless an effect explicitly tells you NOT to roll, then roll damage as standard.

Obviously, these abilities can only be used with your Soul Sword and in order to use an effect, the Sword must be dealing the same type of damage. Soul Sucking Arterial Strike is considered the "element-less" attack and therefore, the sword must not be dealing elemental damage.

Soul Sucking Arterial Strike: The damage dealt by this ability immediately heals you or grants Temporary Hit Points, if you are at full health, or over-heal. Temporary Hit Points granted by this ability stack with those granted by Feeding, but vanish after the encounter. This does not count as Feeding.

Doused In Liquid Agony (Acid): Instead of rolling, wracking the target with extreme pain, causing them to take a -4 penalty on attack rolls, skill checks, and ability checks for (Class Level) rounds. In addition to this, the target takes damage equal to (Level/2 + Cha Mod) each round.

Bone Solidifying Chill (Cold): In addition to dealing damage, for every die that is greater than or equal to the average roll, the target takes 1 point of Strength or Dexterity damage, your choice.

Lightning Strikes Forth (Electricity): After dealing damage to the initial target, targets within 20ft (+5ft per level) take half the rolled damage.

Immolate the Chosen Prey (Fire): You only roll half the normal dice for this ability, but your opponent is set on fire for (Level/2) rounds and each round, takes damage equal to half of the Damage Dice Value of the Sword. (So, 4 by default.)

Echo within the Hollow Skull (Sonic):

Knock Aside With a Vehement Blow (Force): In addition to dealing damage, for every die that comes up 4 or higher pushes your opponent 5ft in any direction of your choosing.

Struck with Righteous Force (Good): [TODO]

Corrupting Anathema (Evil): [TODO]

Caught in Timeless Stasis (Lawful): Instead of Rolling Damage, you instead freeze your opponent in time for a number of rounds equal to Level/2. They are considered Helpless, but do not take damage until they come un-frozen.

Stuck in Wayless Transit (Chaotic): Instead of rolling damage, you instead teleport your opponent randomly in any direction. They are teleported (class level/2)*5ft. The opponent is Teleported in a straight line in a cardinal direction, or "up".

Legendary
Self Sustaining Revenant of Life Shintai
Prerequisite: –

You no longer need to eat, drink, sleep or breathe, nor do you gain any sustenance for doing so, instead (as detailed below) you must consume souls, although you can still benefit from quaffing Potions and the Hero's Feast spell and the like. You cease to Age, and any penalties due to age are reverted, but you continue to gain bonuses. “Dying” simply causes you to revert to a strange, ghost-like creature upon the Ethereal plane (You are treated as an Ethereal creature). However, you have a perfect vision of the Material Plane as if you were there and may “manifest” upon it, allowing your party to see and interact with you, but you are otherwise still on the Ethereal plane. You cannot take any damage while you are in this Ethereal state via any means, but can attack ghosts or other Ethereal creatures, if you desire. (And may still use your various Mythos, including Creating the Soul Sword. If your sword deals Force damage, you may not affect the Material Plane).

There is one thing you CAN do to the Material Plane, which is consume the souls of the dying or recently dead (You can, of course, slay and feed on Ghosts). When you do, you immediately recover 10 Hit Points per hit die of the consumed creature and create a physical body on the Material Plane and your old one simply turns to dust. In fact, you MUST do this within a week of “dying” or else you fade into a mere phantom of your former self, unable to do ANYTHING, except trundle around looking for a meal. You can be brought back to life using Raise Dead or Resurrection, etc, but this does not count as a feeding.

Be aware that this ethereal transition is now what "death" means for you, as if the Ethereal Plane were your designated afterlife. Effects such as the Syntrofos' "Titan slaying godspeed legacy" destroys your physical form and you go to the Ethereal Plane, whereupon you can create a new body for yourself. Abilities that modify where you go after death, such as the Teramach's "Protagonism-Devouring Legend Singularity, functions normally. Other Trofodotis cannot feed on you however.

In order to sustain a physical body, you MUST Feed at least once every 24 hours on a number of Hit Dice equal to half your level. For every day that you do not, you “lose” 1HD (This is treated as a Negative Level) until you hit 0HD and die, transforming you into a pseudo-Ethereal creature. As soon as you Feed on enough souls, though, your full Hit Dice are returned, you heal as above and you are returned to the Material Plane (Or whatever Plane you died on.). Obviously, if you die due to not Feeding, then only Feeding can bring you back to life. Nothing, not even gods or Epic level magic, can do so.

While you are functioning at full capacity, you gain an Untyped, +4 Bonus to all your Ability Scores. But once you start losing Hit Dice or are Ethereal, the bonus disappears.

Bit-by-bit Theft of Spirit
Prerequisite: Partake of The Weakening Soul Mythos, Create the Sword of Souls Mythos
Instead of merely inflicting Negative Levels, you Feed upon 1 Hit Die. Your opponent treats this as a Negative Level and takes appropriate penalties, but is treated as actual lost Hit Dice, as far as Feeding is concerned. If this Mythos reduces an Opponent’s Hit Dice so that it can be affected by Sacrosanct Repast of The Weak, you may use that Mythos as a Free Action. Provided you possess it, of course.

Exalted
Strike Down the Prey
Prerequisite: Create the Sword of Souls Mythos

You may make a full attack against (Cha mod) people who are within Feeding range every round.

Eternal Feast of The Helpless Prey
Prerequisite: Sacrosanct Repast of The Weak

You may affect as many creatures as you desire with Sacrosanct Repast of The Weak. Provided they are all within Feeding Range.

Excellencies
Skill Consuming Appetite

Prerequisite: Consumed the soul of something with the relevant skill

Select a Trofodotis skill. It becomes a Consumed Skill for you. From now on, whenever you Feed on something with ranks in a Consumed Skill, you gain 1 Rank in that skill. This cannot surpass the limit for the number of ranks you may have in a skill based on your level, but if you gain levels, you can get more ranks.
This Excellency may be learned multiple times, once for each Trofodotis class skill.

Feed upon the long-dead
Prerequisite: -
You may Feed on souls that died (Level) Minutes ago. Rather than rounds. At Legendary Mythos, this becomes Hours. And at Exalted, Days.

Sight of the Ethereal

Prerequisite: –
You may see into the Ethereal plane as if you were stood on it. As such, this allows you to see and communicate with Ethereal creatures. In addition, you can see the souls of the recently departed, provided they are within your Feeding time (See Feed upon the long-dead).

Stored-Away Rationed Soul

Prerequisite: Partake of the Weakening Soul Mythos
When you Feed on a creature, you may choose to “store” any number of Hit Dice within yourself for a number of days equal to your class level. Stored Hit Dice grant no benefits of an ordinary Feeding, but can be consumed any time as a Free Action to grant normal benefits of a Feeding.
You can store a number of hit dice equal to twice your Class Level.

Feed Upon the Bloodied Horde
Prerequisite: Fantastic Mythos

The Range at which you can Feed increases to 50ft +10ft per level. You may take this Excellency again when you have Legendary and Exalted Mythos, increasing the range to 100ft +20ft and 200ft and 40ft, respectively.

The Sly Arts of The Feeder
Prerequisite: -

You may use your Charisma Modifier, in place of the normal Ability Score, for Balance, Climb, Concentration, Escape Artist, Hide, Move Silently, Sense Motive and Tumble.

Reminisce Upon The Prey’s Life
Prerequisite: –
Whenever you have Fed, you have clear memories of everything that happened to the creature within the last week, as well as memories of any “significant” events (Such as the birth or death of a child, a particularly gruesome execution the creature saw and such).

So, here's a thing.

This class is play ready, yes, but not quite complete. The Exalted Mythos are a little bare bones, sure, but it's almost 5AM for me. My brain isn't working right.

But if anyone has any ideas for other Mythos, I'd be happy to hear them.

Not sure that stopping all ressurrection at straight from 1st level is... well, I guess the instances of recurring badguys getting returned to life is pretty rare for most PC parties, so it probably isn't mechanically too problematic, but technically speaking it knocks Trap the Soul into a cocked hat both in terms of casting window (1 round for Trap the Soul) and finality. And that is a 9th level spell.

In the hands of a GM? I can see rage-quits from players, especially at higher levels. Shoot, every major player in the campaign world should have one of these guys under their sway (befriend, charm, hold hostages against, pay hundreds of gold per service, whatever) and linked by a Bracelet of Friends to summon after they down a major threat.

I have had the time to throughly read this through, but I love the flavor thus far.

However, I will have to Agree with Draco, the capability to induce permadeath starting at level one? Maybe they do techincally devour the souls, but can't... digest them until much later?

Just dropping by to say..."Oooooh."

It's like a soul vampire. It consumes souls. That's fantastic. Also a subtle nod to the Soul Eater character on the poster whose name escapes me because I've seen few episodes of that show...still, oooooh.

As for mechanics, Feed is 100% better than the presumed original that said "No resurrection for zyou." Gonna read the Mythos now, see what sticks.

Quick note, JB, still actually kinda working on this. It's not a "true" WIP, it's perfectly playable, but I don't consider this "done".

His name is Soul Eater...Funny, that none of the baddies in the show seem concerned at the prospect of fighting someone who uses that name.

Just dropping into say- WOAH, I really enjoy this class here. it has 2 of my favorite things to do, which is work outside normal weaponry (soul weapon), as well as be able to last (via soulfeeding. screw sleep, screw food, and i can even keep a spare piece of soul in my teeth for later with some of the abilities). i can just picture an old character of mine taking the mantle of the Trofodotis, chewing on the souls of enemies and even some (minor) allies alike in order to reach greater and greater powers.

I really can't wait to see what happens as this class develops. but something does concern me, and forgive me if this sounds idiotic, but wow, the Sword of Souls feels earth shattering. just trying to make sense of it's potency and how it functions.

First off, i assume the weapon is melee? you mention you can flavor it as a blast, but i assume it really is meant as a short range melee weapon. if you can make it ranged, i REALLY wanna play it. even if i can't, i wanna make a PowerKlaw with it.
as for its modifiers, i love that its charisma based, but CHA mod added every two levels? is that right? if so, mega bruuutal...
on top of that, i LOVE the ability to drain souls and improve it, But yowza the d6 per weapon bonus sounds insane, although I could wager that it in itself is sensible in the long run.

just double checking to make sure i comprehend that thing

that said, i love the kind of feel i get out of this character. someone who is unendingly hungry, and you may be dinner if you cut him down. the power to even eat the sustaining energy of the dead on top of that is just.. i want to play this and go on a warpath. maybe even a WAAAAAAGH!!!!

The Sword of Souls "is" it's own weapon. It just counts as whatever SORT of weapon at a time. It relies on your Cha mod, for Attack rolls, not Strength or Dexterity.

@Bdrone: The Sword of Souls is basically a stronger Glaivelock build.

Yes, the weapon is Melee range.

Yes, Cha mod every two levels. In addition to the 1d6.

There "are" plans to make a ranged one. However, less Warlock Eldritch Blast and more like this:

(Yes, multiple weapons included.)

Interesting idea. It seems like it might be a neat idea once it's "complete". If it's not to rude to make some sugestions, maybe Mythos that allow you to "enslave" devoured souls(as warriors to fight on your behalf, familiar-spies, or whatever) or which allow you to outright shapeshift into someone you've devoured seem fun.

I know this is borderline Thread-Necromancy, but I feel like it should be pointed out: Self-Sustaining Revenant of Life Shintai is stupid. Okay, stupid is a childish way to phrase it, but it has three major flaws that need to be addressed if it is ever to be considered as a serious contribution to the Mythos system.

First, the clause that says it ignores effects like Protagonism-Devouring Legend Singularity & Titanlaying Godspear Legacy should be removed. The entire point of such effects is to allow for unkillable foes to be put down for good. Creating an immortality effect that bypasses such abilities simply encourages an indefinite escalation of absolute effects. This is bad, and unhealthy for a game in a slew of ways. There are Immortals, and there are Immortal-killers. No Super-Immortals, Super-Duper-Immortals, Uber-Immortals, and their respective -Killers.

Secondly, this Shintai includes absolutely no exceptions to the immortality that it grants. Almost every other Immortality effect (within Xefas' classes, and the source material he uses) includes some method of circumventing it. And those that don't (Sol Invictus & Within a Perfect World, I Would be Dead come to mind) are made with the assumption that abilities like PDLS & TGL will exist, and be accessible to anyone able to face Exalted Mythic characters, who are the only characters with access to such powerful Immortality effects. This second issue would not be so problematic were it not for the first, but even then, it should not offer such a significantly more powerful effect as a Legendary Mythos than that provided by the strongest Exalted Immortality Mythos.

Finally, the drawback needs to be reconsidered entirely. Shintai are not the kind of thing that should be an obvious choice for every character of the class. They're supposed to warp the way you play the character in some pretty fundamental, and often disruptive ways. "Hey, Mr. Murder-hobo, go murder more people" does not seem sufficient. Look at Angel of Death Shintai, or Untamed Apocalypse Shintai, or Sojourner of a Thousand Lives Shintai. These all impose roleplaying restrictions, and none of them can be taken without having some very particular ideas about the direction of your character's narrative destiny. More than any other singular component of the Mythos system, Shintai exist to tell stories.

I really do like this class, and even this Mythos, but as it stands, it either needs to be an Exalted non-Shintai, or it needs a weaker Immortality effect, and a drawback of a harsher, and preferably more narrative nature. Regardless, there is no place for that "I ignore effects specifically designed to deal with people like me" nonsense. It just reeks of bad fan-fiction and one-upmanship.

The Exalted mythos of this class are certainly incredibly powerful combat tools, but it still feels like it's lacking something. Is this class still being developed?
