The place between the Universes is a significantly unique spot. As the name implies, it is located between the Universes and the individual fabrics of reality that hold together the Multiverse. It originated at about the same time that somebody decided one universe wasn't enough, and that in order for the Multiverse to be interesting, there had to be thirteen more.
However, the place between the Universes has some remarkable traits. One happens to be that because everyone perceives everything in a different way, some people's minds simply don't accept that there are other rapidly growing Universes. Because of this, once they enter the place between the Universes, their minds usually pop like a balloon trying to show affection towards a porcupine.
One reason for this is that a Universe is pretty big. Almost infinite. And each one is growing pretty quickly. Seeing all of creation right before your eyes is a little mind-boggling. Seeing all of fourteen separate creations right before your eyes is a little mind-shattering.
Now, the place between the Universes holds together all of the threads of reality. Each thread forces the Universes to obey the specific laws of reality that are entwined on it. There are some one hundred and ninety-six threads, fourteen for each one of the fourteen universes.
It's unsure exactly why whoever made the place liked the number fourteen so much.
However, the threads can't hold everything together; otherwise, there would be no way to visit this enormous tourist attraction, and this topic would be completely useless. The threads hang together in a pattern that leaves one small hole open for climbing through. This is known as the Tear in Reality.
The Tear in the Reality is a bit of an oddity. While the Universes cannot access the place between the Universes directly from the Universes, they can access it indirectly through the Tear in Reality. In fact, anyone can access anything through the Tear in Reality, provided they have a way to harness it. And there are only fourteen (that's right) people in the known Universes that can harness the aforementioned tear; they are the people who call the place between the Universes home.
Now, in between realities and the threads of reality, there is a lot of crazy stuff. The crazy stuff is completely chaotic, living in complete chaos; this is because between realities, there's no reality left. Strangely enough, though everything in the known Universes has to obey the laws of each Universe that are written on the threads of reality, things from between the realities can access Universes with no problem, while remaining their chaotic selves. There isn't any special reason for this, but it makes the Universes more amusing.
Last of all, the tear in reality releases some very strange things from between realities into the place between the Universes; this is another factor that makes the place a whole lot less inhabitable for people who typically obey the laws of reality, because their minds have a tendency to crumple up like a piece of paper upon seeing the strange oddities that pop up from between the Universes.
Which is why there are only fourteen people who can handle the madness of the place between the Universes without even twitching an eyebrow.
There are still many people besides those who can survive the madness of the Tear in Reality; but most of them belong in a room with padded walls.
This is why Tenny BeMorton Plods, one of the people who calls this place home, doesn't typically have guests over for dinner.
