Affluencer

First, let me be very clear that this class is not meant to be taken that seriously. It's a joke class, and if the concept doesn't come off as patently ridiculous, it means I did it wrong. That said, feedback is appreciated as I continue my efforts to achieve some semblance of game balance with this thing, despite the obvious (and reasonable) objection that any hope of balancing a class which messes with gold is questionable at best.

Admittedly, it could probably use another class feature or two at higher levels. Suggestions are welcome.

Class FeaturesAll the following are class features of the affluencer.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Affluencers are proficient with all simple weapons, with the money bag (described below), with light armor, and with shields (except tower shields).

Exorbitance (Su): An affluencer can draw magical power from his excessive wealth. The affluencer gains a wealth level, which is determined by the total value of all clothing and jewelry that the affluencer is wearing or visibly carrying, including any actual gold pieces that he has on his person. If the affluencer is wearing any magic items, ignore the value of any magical enhancements or spell effects on them when determining their worth for this purpose.

When an affluencer fills a bag of holding or other magical storage container with gold and gems, the money jingles around loudly if he has it on his person, making it clear that he is carrying wealth even if the items are not visible.

To reach a given wealth level, the affluencer must be wearing clothing and jewelry and carrying gold pieces with a total value of 1,000 gp multiplied by that number squared. The table below shows the required wealth for wealth levels up to 20.

Regardless of how much wealth the affluencer has, his wealth level cannot exceed his class level.

The affluencer gains the following bonuses based on his wealth level:

Bonus on attack rolls equal to wealth level
Bonus damage per damage die rolled equal to ½ wealth level (applies to all damage that the affluencer deals)
Bonus on skill checks equal to ½ wealth level
Bonus on saving throws equal to ½ wealth level
Deflection bonus to AC equal to ½ wealth level

Extravagance (Su): An affluencer’s greed is so strong that deities of wealth take notice and reward him for defeating his enemies. Whenever the affluencer or an ally within 50 feet of him defeats an enemy in combat, the affluencer gains a number of gold pieces equal to his class level, which appear in front of him. The affluencer may have these gold pieces fly into a pouch or container that he has on his person if he wishes.

Money Bag (Su): A money bag can be made by taking a sack and filling it with at least 250 gold pieces. A money bag is a one-handed melee weapon which deals 1d6 points of bludgeoning damage.

Due to the affluencer’s supernatural power, a money bag that he uses deals an additional 1d6 points of damage for every 1,000 gold pieces it contains, up to a maximum of 5d6 points of bonus damage. This bonus damage applies even if the bag magically reduces the weight of the gold inside, such as a bag of holding.

Opulent Blast (Su): An affluencer can channel his extreme wealth into an overwhelming blast, sacrificing his gold pieces to launch a literal stream of gold at his enemies. This display and sacrifice of wealth is so gaudy, so obscenely affluent, that it can sicken those it touches. The affluencer can use this ability any time he could make an attack, making a ranged touch attack to hit an intelligent creature within 25 feet + 5 feet/2 levels of himself. If the affluencer’s attack hits, it deals 1d6 points of untyped damage and the target must succeed on a Will save (DC 10 + ½ the amount of damage dealt) or become sickened for 1 round.

The affluencer must sacrifice a gold piece each time he uses this ability. He need not be holding the gold piece in his hand; the affluencer’s magic can cause the gold to fly to his hand from any pouch or container that he has on his person. Here it is transformed into a shimmering gold vapor which flies towards the target.

The affluencer can sacrifice additional gold pieces in order to improve the power of this attack. For every 2 additional gold pieces that the affluencer sacrifices when using his opulent blast, it deals an additional 1d6 points of damage.

The affluencer gains additional options for improving his opulent blast as he gains class levels. However, the maximum number of gold pieces that the affluencer can sacrifice when using his opulent blast cannot exceed twice his class level.

Bribery (Ex): An affluencer of 2nd level or higher has mastered the art of bribing others to get what he wants. Whenever the affluencer makes a Bluff, Diplomacy, Gather Information, or Sense Motive check outside of combat, he can give 100 gold pieces to the character that he is interacting with in order to gain a +2 bonus on his skill check.

Beginning at 8th level, an affluencer can pay 1,000 gold pieces instead in order to gain a +5 bonus on his skill check.

Beginning at 14th level, an affluencer can pay 5,000 gold pieces instead in order to gain a +10 bonus on his skill check.

Debilitating Blast (Su): Beginning at 2nd level, an affluencer can sacrifice 2 gold pieces when using his opulent blast in order to cause creatures that fail their Will saves to become sickened for 2 rounds instead of 1 round.

Gold Magnet (Su): An affluencer of 3rd level or higher can concentrate to pull precious metals and gems towards himself. To use this ability, the affluencer must focus on a 5 foot square within 25 feet + 5 feet/2 class levels that he has line of sight to as a full-round action. Beginning with the smallest and cheapest objects, items made of precious metals and gems begin flying in a stream from that location to the affluencer. The affluencer may have these items fly into a pouch or container that he has on his person if he wishes.

Items that are unable to reach the affluencer (because they are in sealed containers, for example) begin bumping around, revealing their locations.

Each round, the affluencer can pull items towards him with a total value in gold pieces up to his class level. If he pulls multiple items in one round, each one must weigh no more than ½ lb. Alternatively, the affluencer can pull a single item with a weight in lbs. up to his class level.

The affluencer can concentrate on a single item that he can see for multiple rounds in order to build up enough energy to move it. For each round that he spends in concentration, the affluencer increases the maximum value in gold pieces and the maximum weight in lbs. for the next item he moves by an amount equal to his class level, up to a limit of ten times his class level. Once he has built up enough energy to move an item that exceeds his normal limit, it begins moving towards him, stopping in front of him and slowly descending to the ground if the affluencer is unable to hold onto it or stow it on his person.

If the affluencer targets a creature in order to take its possessions, that creature can maintain control of its items by succeeding on a Reflex save (DC 10 + ½ the affluencer’s class level + the affluencer’s Intelligence modifier).

Opulent Cone (Su): Beginning at 3rd level, an affluencer can sacrifice 3 gold pieces when using his opulent blast in order to change it into a 15 foot cone. Beginning at 7th level, he can sacrifice 7 gold pieces instead to change it into a 30 foot cone. When using either of these options, the affluencer makes a ranged attack roll and sets that as the Reflex save DC required to avoid the blast.

Transmute (Su): Beginning at 4th level, an affluencer can use his greed to transmute a nonmagical item into gold pieces. To do this, the affluencer must pick up the item and concentrate as a full-round action.

If the affluencer’s concentration remains unbroken until the beginning of his next turn, the item is transformed into a number of gold pieces equal to a percentage of its market value, given as 40% + 1d6 * 10%. If the affluencer transmutes an item made of only precious metals or gemstones, the item is transmuted to 100% of its value in gold pieces instead.

In either case, the affluencer can attempt a greed check (1d20 + ½ his class level + his Intelligence modifier) to increase this value by a percentage equal to the check result. (For example, a d6 roll of 2 plus a greed check result of 23 would cause the affluencer to gain gold pieces equal to 83% of an item’s value.) The amount of money that the affluencer receives is rounded to the nearest gold piece.

When the affluencer finishes transmuting an item, he may have the gold pieces fly into a pouch or container that he has on his person if he wishes.

This ability is usable a number of times per day equal to ½ the affluencer’s class level + the afflucencer’s Intelligence modifier.

Opulent Line (Su): Beginning at 5th level, an affluencer can sacrifice 5 gold pieces when using his opulent blast in order to change it into a 60 foot line. Beginning at 11th level, he can sacrifice 11 gold pieces instead to change it into a 120 foot line. When using either of these options, the affluencer makes a ranged attack roll and sets that as the Reflex save DC required to avoid the blast.

Daily Lottery (Su): Beginning at 6th level, an affluencer wakes up refreshed and ready to exercise his greed to the maximum. At the beginning of each day, the affluencer can attempt a DC 5 greed check. If he succeeds, he gains a number of gold pieces equal to his class level + his wealth level, and he can make another greed check with a DC 5 higher than the DC of the last check. This process repeats until the affluencer fails a greed check. At the beginning of the next day, the DC resets to 5 and he can try again.

Nauseating Blast (Su): Beginning at 6th level, an affluencer can sacrifice 6 gold pieces when using his opulent blast in order to cause creatures that fail their Will saves to become nauseated instead of sickened.

Price of a Life (Su): Beginning at 8th level, an affluencer can crouch down next to a creature that has died within the past minute and concentrate as a full-round action. This ability works like the affluencer’s Transmute class feature, except that it has no daily limit and the affluencer cannot make a greed check to increase the amount of gold he receives. At the beginning of the affluencer’s next turn, the dead creature’s body is transmuted into a number of gold pieces equal to ½ the affluencer’s class level multiplied by the creature’s Challenge Rating. The affluencer may have these gold pieces fly into a pouch or container that he has on his person if he wishes.

Opulent Chain (Su): Beginning at 7th level, an affluencer can sacrifice 7 gold pieces when using his opulent blast in order to make it jump to multiple targets. After the blast hits the affluencer’s target, it jumps to a new creature that the affluencer can see within 25 feet + 5 feet/2 class levels of the creature that it just hit, using the same attack roll result to hit. This effect continues until the opulent blast misses, until it has hit a total of 1 target per 2 class levels, or until there are no more valid targets for it to jump to.

Opulent Burst (Su): Beginning at 9th level, an affluencer can sacrifice 9 gold pieces when using his opulent blast in order to change it into a 15 foot radius burst centered on a location he can see within 25 feet + 5 feet/2 class levels of himself. Beginning at 17th level, he can sacrifice 17 gold pieces instead to change it into a 30 foot radius burst. When using either of these options, the affluencer makes a ranged attack roll and sets that as the Reflex save DC required to avoid the blast.

I did lol a little.

It looks fun, but any DM who wants to shut it down only has to go to basic rules: encumbrance. Gold pieces are 50 to the pound. He needs an ability to reduce the effective weight of gold or something, or he'll never get to the highest wealth levels.

Also, I would love for him to swing his moneybags at people as a two-handed sap-like weapon.

Great sap: Two-handed exotic weapon. Price 401 gp. Damage: 2d6 Crit: x2. Weight: 8 lbs. Special: deals nonlethal damage. The Great Sap appears to all examiners to be a bag of 400 gold pieces, because it is, just slightly reinforced. The gold inside can be taken out and spent, but if it holds a single piece less than 400, it suffers a -4 penalty to attack and damage rolls, and is unusable as a weapon at 50 gp or less.

He should also be able to buy bonuses to social skills via bribery.

Brilliant suggestions. In response to the issue with weight, buying super expensive clothing is one method of offloading gold pieces without compromising wealth level. Silk and diamonds are fairly valuable, but don't weigh as much as gold, to give an example. A bag of holding might also be an option. Just modify the bag so the sound of the gold inside can clearly be heard when the bag is moved, to counteract the DM saying "Well, the gold isn't OBVIOUSLY on your person."
Get a diamond ring on every finger, wear some gem-encrusted necklaces, get a crown, etc.

Now we need to stat and price a set of diamond studded suede armor.

Now we need to stat and price a set of diamond studded suede armor.

"This armor is identical to studded leather armor, except that costs 10,000 gp. Made with thousands of perfectly cut diamonds, this beautiful work of art will capture the attention of everyone you meet."

Everyone else at the table: "Why the heck would you buy that? It's disgustingly expensive."

Affluencer: "I'LL TAKE ONE, PLEASE!"

I added in the ability to use bags of money as weapons, added the ability to bribe people, and updated the Exorbitance class feature to clarify the issue with money being noticeable when it is inside a bag of holding.

This strangely reminds me of that scene in Dracula (novel) where the fearless band of protagonists confront Dracula before he tries to flee with his wealth to another city, in a highly awkward way. They up damaging his outfit so that a truly impressive amount of money keeps spills out of his clothes, as he successfully flees in an undignified yet vengeful manner.
