So I have had an idea kicking around in my head for some time and when I came across the concept of the faction class by Absolute Tabletop I knew how to bring my idea to life and set about doing so. The idea is Dungeons and Dragons superheroes classic D&D races and classes but of epic proportions. You advance normally through your 20 levels but at 3rd level you are exposed to a power crystal that unlocks your greatest potential. You gain extra powers of your own choice that you can customize as you want to create your perfect hero. This is still in the early stages going to take a lot of play testing, but I'm ready for input of any kind as I'm going to start testing it with my group in the next couple weeks.

Have you considered a system designed more with superheroes in mind? I suspect you'll have an easier time doing something like, say, building D&D type things in Mutants and Masterminds (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?279503-D-amp-D-in-M-amp-M-a-new-approach-to-rebalancing-3-5-PF) than trying to design a crapton of new special abilities to glue on top of the existing game. Hell, just be excessively generous with what skill checks can do and you're a large part of the way there.

The main thing is I have played many different systems but always come back to D&D because I love how it handles combat. AC and hit points are so simple and easy and give me the slug fests that I love.
