Rider of the Great Worm

"Shai Hulud! Send me a great one! Send me the courage to ride it well! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQmO6F2czgs)"

The great and terrible purple worm is a creature feared across the land. Its deadly poison and burrowing might makes it a horror that can strike an unsuspecting village, or even city, and ravage it in mere minutes. The Rider of the Great Worm has tamed such a fierce beast and bound themselves in a mutualistic bond with it.

Weapon Proficiencies: A Rider of the Great Worm gains proficiency in Riding Shields as long as they were already proficient in shields.

Improved Mounted Combat (Ex): A rider of the great worm is a master of mounted combat. They may replace their mount's AC with a ride check any number of times per round instead of the once per round limit of Mounted Combat. In addition when mounted they may replace their own AC against attacks of opportunity due to movement with a ride check.

Purple Worm Mount (Ex): A rider of the great worm is able to call a purple worm to serve his mount in combat. Initially this is the purple worm that they fought and defeated in the Ritual of Worm Calling, though should it die or be dismissed a rider of the great worm may call another through a ritual which takes 24 hours. A rider of the great worm's purple worm mount improves with their level much like a druid's animal companion. If they possess the special mount ability they may make their purple worm their special mount in which case it gains the benefits of a special mount at a -8 penalty to their effective paladin level, if this would reduce their effective level below 5th then the purple worm does not gain any bonus HD, Str, or natural armor, but does gain Int 6, empathic link, improved evasion, share spells, and share saves.

Clever (Ex): A Rider of the Great Worm's purple worm mount is especially clever for their species having Int 2 (instead of 1), and know the tricks attack, come, defend, down, guard, heel, and stay (these do not count against its limit of tricks known), as well as how to carry a rider into combat and proficiency with light and heavy armor. Finally the rider of the great worm may handle their worm as a free action or push it as a move action.

Devotion (Ex): A Rider of the Great Worm's purple worm mount gains a +4 morale bonus to Will saves against mind-affecting effects.

Evasion (Ex): A Rider of the Great Worm's purple worm mount gains Evasion.

Improved Speed (Ex): A Rider of the Great Worm's purple worm mount's speed increases by 20 ft and its burrow and swim speeds by 10 ft. At 2nd level it gains these increases again.

Increased Size (Ex): A Rider of the Great Worm's purple worm grows to massive sizes. Beginning at 3rd level it is considered Colossal whenever beneficial and gargantuan whenever beneficial. For the purposes of spacing it may determine what its spacing will be (20 ft or 30 ft) and change it 1/round as a free action. This means it has reach as a colossal creature (20 ft), as well as special size modifiers to opposed checks, and may swallow gargantuan creatures, but uses gargantuan creature size modifiers for AC and attack rolls and Hide checks.

Burrowing Ride (Ex): Beginning at 2nd level when riding their purple worm mount a Rider of the Great Worm may ride with it even when it travels beneath the earth. You are able to cling to the purple worm's back without being swept off, and without fear of suffocation. You can travel in this manner for 10 minutes at a time before you and your mount must surface for air. If it is forced to stop burrowing (such as if it is slain) while you are on its back, you are subject to the normal hazards of being buried alive. Shamelessly taken from Ashworm Dragoon

Defend Mount (Ex): A Rider of the Great Worm learns to defend their precious mount. Beginning at 2nd level a Rider of the Great Worm's mount (even if not their purple worm mount) may use the Rider's saving throw modifier in place of their own if it is higher. In addition while ridden by the Rider of the Great Worm the creature gains Mettle and Improved Evasion.

Lunging Strike (Ex): A Rider of the Great Worm learns to strike even as their (massive) mount moves and lunges. A Rider of the Great Worm riding their purple worm mount may treat themselves as being in any and every square their purple worm mount threatens for determining their own melee threat range. In addition they can make a full attack when their mount moves more than 5 feet but no farther than its speed as a single move action. They cannot combine this full attack with a charge action.
