The Warlord
From brilliant tacticians to inspiring generals, the archetypical Warlord leads from the front. Those who undertake this path learn to direct and inspire their allies to fight more effectively than they could ever hope to do on their own.

Warlord Tactics
When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you learn maneuvers that are fueled by special dice called superiority dice.

Maneuvers
You learn Rally and two other maneuvers of your choice from the Warlord Maneuver list below. You cannot learn Battle Master maneuvers not on the Warlord Maneuver list, even with the Martial Adept feat. Many maneuvers enhance an attack in some way. You can use only one maneuver per attack. You learn one additional maneuver from the list at 7th level.

Superiority Dice
You have four superiority dice, which are d8s. A superiority die is expended when you use it. You regain all of your expended superiority dice when you finish a short or long rest. You gain another superiority die at 7th level and one more at 15th level.

Inspiring Word
At 3rd level, you gain the ability to target yourself with the Rally maneuver. Furthermore, when you use the Rally maneuver, the target also regains 1 hit point.

Commanding Presence
At 7th level, you may use the Bard's Bardic Inspiration. Your Bardic Inspiration die is a d6. You may use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (a minimum of once). You regain any expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Warlord's Favor
At 10th level, when you take a short rest, you regain one expended use of Bardic Inspiration.

Improved Warlord Tactics
At 10th level, your superiority dice turn into d10s. At 18th level, they turn into d12s.

Relentless
Starting at 15th level, when you roll initiative and have no superiority dice remaining, you regain one superiority die.

Improved Commanding Presence
At 15th level, your Bardic Inspiration dice become d8s.

The Battlemaster already has most of the tools needed to be a Warlord stand-in. The only things it's missing are the ability to pick up fallen comrades (Rally almost but doesn't quite do it, and healer's kits require one to drop what they're doing) and a little more ally-buffing.

So, this is a quick and dirty method of making a Warlord without the complexities of new mechanics. Rally effectively becomes a 1st level Healing Word, and Bardic Inspiration (although weaker than the Bard's) gives the Warlord more buffing potential. The primary opportunity costs of the Warlord versus the Battlemaster are reduced choice of maneuvers, and fewer maneuvers known (though it also loses out on the Battlemaster's fluff abilities).

The issue here is managing two resource systems that both use dice of different sizes and have different refresh rates. I would instead add the ability to use superiority dice as bardic inspiration.
