Hello all, I am considering making a change to the eldritch knight for my campaign setting and would appreciate some feedback.

I want the eldritch knight to be able to add an element to their bonded weapon and I am considering making this a part of their class features or making it a feat.

This would be what I want the feat to do, but I feel that is a little under powered.

Feat
Elemental BladeThe character can imbue their bonded melee weapon with an element of their choice. They can do this once per short rest.

I was also considering having it has a part of the bonded weapon class feature and they would maybe have to expend a spell slot to do it.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you.

And what does it get them?

It would add the element of their choice to their attack. So they could make their melee attack do fire damage, ice damage or whatever element they wanted. This would be useful for bypassing the defenses of some monsters.
