Note: Rookie Entry

Domain of the Dead
This dimly lit layer of the Abyss is the realm of a self proclaimed Lady of Undeath.

This Layer appears as a giant skull, with a face on the front and back of the skull. Falling through the skull's mouth for instance, causes you to fall through the mouth on the otherside of the plane.

Undead Demons, and those who torture spirits live here.

The Domain of the Dead has the following Traits:
No Gravity
Erratic Time
{table=head]d%|Time on Material Plane|Time on Domain of the Dead
01-10|10 days|1 round
11-40|1 day|1 hour
41-60|1 day|1 day
61-90|1 hour|1 day
91-100|1 round|10 days
Self-Containted Shape -> Skull
Static Plane
Major Negative-Dominant (Each round, those within must make a DC 25 Fortitude save or gain a negative level. A creature whose negative levels equal its current levels or Hit Dice is slain, becoming an Abyss-Bound Dretch. The death ward spell protects a traveler from the damage and energy drain of a negative-dominant plane.)
Mildly Evil-aligned
Limited Magic (No spells with the Good descriptor, or Conjuration[Calling] or Conjuration[Summoning])

Due to this layers unique nature, combat is impossible on it. To fight any of the challenges here, it would be due to their own planar traveling or binding.

The Lady of Undeath, Hama, is the ruler of this plane. She is a lazy creature, and rarely fights or travels. When others talk to her she shows interest, and tries to either get them to summon her to their plane, or to keep them on the Domain of the Dead long enough for them to die.
Hama sees her Domain as a prison, and wishes to leave. She has attempted to escape many times, but keeps being sent back to the Domain of the Dead. Her greatest wish is to escape.

She appears as a large succubus, with a grey tint and an extra set of bones over her skin. The only thing that tells her apart from other succubus in her realm is her size, and the runic patterns that cover her wings

This winged demon of temptation has a grey tint to it, as well as an additional skeleton covering the outside of the body. She seems to be darker then the surrounding darkness. She stands taller then any other’s of her kind.

Hama is 9 feet tall in her natural form and weighs about 250 pounds.

Combat
Hama prefers not to fight, and will only do so when the odds are greatly in her favor
Hama’s natural weapons, as well as any weapon she wields, are treated as chaotic-aligned and evil-aligned for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.

Energy Drain (Su)
Hama drains energy from a mortal she lures into some act of passion, or by simply planting a kiss on the victim. If the target is not willing to be kissed, Hama must start a grapple, which does not provoke an attack of opportunity. Hama’s succubus’s kiss or embrace bestows one negative level. The kiss also has the effect of a suggestion spell, asking the victim to accept another kiss from the Abyss-Dead succubus. The victim must succeed on a DC 40 Will save to negate the effect of the suggestion. The DC is 40 for the Fortitude save to remove a negative level. These save DCs are Charisma-based.

Life Stealing Slam (Su)
If Hama hits with her slam attack, she deals 1d6+2 constitution damage. This can be halved with a successful fortitude save (DC 40).

Spell-Like Abilities
At will—charm monster (DC 44), detect good, detect thoughts (DC 42), ethereal jaunt (self plus 50 pounds of objects only), suggestion (DC 43), greater teleport (self plus 50 pounds of objects only). Caster level 30th. The save DCs are Charisma-based.

Touch of Undeath (Su)
Hama may as a standard action that provokes Attacks of opportunity touch an opponent (While Grappling she can use this at any time). The target must succeed on a DC 42 will save, or take 2d10 Negative levels. These negative levels give Hama 5 temporary hit points each. If a creature’s negative levels become equal to or greater then their character level, they die instantly. In 1d4 rounds they are animated as an abyss-bound dretch. The DC is 42 for the Fortitude save to remove a negative level. These save DCs are Charisma-based.

Undead Kindred (Su)
Hama may control one other undead in the area, provided the creature is of less then 30 hitdice, and the creature fails on a DC 40 will saving throw.

Change Shape (Su)
Hama can assume the form of any Small or Medium humanoid.

Tongues (Su)
Hama has a permanent tongues ability (as the spell, caster level 12th). Hama usually uses verbal communication with mortals.

Skills
Hama have a +8 racial bonus on Listen and Spot checks.

*While using her change shape ability, a succubus gains a +10 circumstance bonus on Disguise checks.
Encounters with the Lady of Undeath causes many to become Abyss-Dead Dretchs. The statistics for such a creature are in the post below.

Due to the Nature of this layer, no one fights on the layer. Indeed, it is likely all combat with creatures presented here would be the result of planar travel.

Abyss-Dead
Abyss-Dead creatures are an irregularity in the Abyss. Abyss-Dead demons are spawned from the plane on the layer known as the Domain of the Dead. This layers erratic yet static nature warps the Tanar’ri born on it, making them appear as decaying and with a gray tint. Covering them is a set of external bones separate from the internal set.

This ugly grey creature seems to have an extra set of pones stretched over the outside of its flesh.

An Abyss-Dead Dretch is 4 feet tall and weighs about 90 pounds.

Combat

Abyss-Dead Dretches are slow, stupid, and not very effective combatants. In one-on-one combat, they rely on their damage reduction to keep them alive. In groups, they depend on sheer numbers to overcome foes. They flee at the first sign of adversity unless more powerful demons are present to intimidate them into fighting. Dretches’ fear of their greater kin is stronger then even their fear of death.

An Abyss-Dead dretch’s natural weapons, as well as any weapons it wields, are treated as chaotic-aligned and evil-aligned for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.

Life Stealing Slam (Su)

This winged demon of temptation has a grey tint to it, as well as an additional skeleton covering the outside of the body.

An Abyss-Dead succubus is 6 feet tall in its natural form and weighs about 150 pounds.

Combat

Abyss-Dead Succubi are not warriors. They flee combat whenever they can. If forced to fight, they can attack with their claws, but they prefer to turn foes against one another. Abyss-Dead Succubi use their change shape ability to assume humanoid guise, and can maintain this deception indefinitely. Their preferred tactic when dealing with heroes is to feign friendship and create an opportunity to be alone with one of them, whereupon the Abyss-Dead succubus applies her life-draining kiss. Abyss-Dead Succubi are not above taking on the role of a damsel in distress when encountered within a dungeon.

An Abyss-Dead succubus’s natural weapons, as well as any weapons it wields, are treated as chaotic-aligned and evil-aligned for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.

Energy Drain (Su)
An Abyss-Dead succubus drains energy from a mortal it lures into some act of passion, or by simply planting a kiss on the victim. The kiss also has the effect of a suggestion spell, asking the victim to accept another kiss from the Abyss-Dead succubus. The victim must succeed on a DC 23 Will save to negate the effect of the suggestion. The DC is 23 for the Fortitude save to remove a negative level. These save DCs are Charisma-based.

Life Stealing Slam (Su)
An Abyss-Dead Succubus that hits with its slam attack deals 1d6+2 constitution damage. This can be halved with a successful DC 21 fortitude save.

Spell-Like Abilities
At will—charm monster (DC 24), detect good, detect thoughts (DC 22), ethereal jaunt (self plus 50 pounds of objects only), suggestion (DC 23), greater teleport (self plus 50 pounds of objects only). Caster level 12th. The save DCs are Charisma-based.

Undead Kindred (Su)
An Abyss-Dead Succubus may control one other undead in the area, provided the Abyss-Dead Succubus has more hit dice then the creature to be controlled, and the creature fails on a DC 28 will saving throw. This is a Standard Action.

Change Shape (Su)

An Abyss-Dead succubus can assume the form of any Small or Medium humanoid.

Tongues (Su)

An Abyss-Dead succubus has a permanent tongues ability (as the spell, caster level 12th). Succubi usually use verbal communication with mortals.

Creating An Abyss-Dead
"Abyss-Dead" is an inherited template that can be added to any Outsider with the Tanar’ri subtype.

Armor Class
An Abyss-Dead creature has an additional set of bones on the outside of the creature, increasing the creature’s natural armor bonus by 3.
