View Full Version : How to make modrons simple?

I've been trying to homebrew the modrons for ages, but found it harder than it looks I've been thinking of making another attempt, and would be happy to hear what you think.

The big issue I'm having with the modron is how complicated they are - there is a lot of things I feel they should be able to do, but this causes them to have a lot of special rules, which only accumulate with each consecutive form.

Also, the fact that they get smarter with each form makes it a chore to figure out their skills. - I'm looking for some alternative here, but that would probably be another special rule...

Also, modron hierarchs are casters in the old books, but I've been thinking of making them psionic. - the idea of power points and pure concentration manifesting seems better than writing a custom spell list and giving them free metamagic.

What do you guys think? How would you do them?

One of my favourite things about re-making modrons is playing with their looks :)

Here is a link to my previous attempt - this is what I'm trying to simplify:

Why outsiders that count as constructs?
Why not constructs with the living construct, extraplanar, and lawful subtypes that count as outsiders for purposes of effects that relate to it?
I really wish creatures in 3.5 could have dual types. It seems like that would make things so much easier.

Also, did you know that modrons already have official stats in the Planar Handbook web expansion?

*edit*
Dragon #354 appears to have some modron stuff as well.

I remember reading the web enhancement and deciding I didn't like it, though I don't remember why.
