Wintersoul

Characteristics

Wintersouls are individuals with the ability to call upon and command snow to assist them in combat or day to day life.

Wintersouls can heal their allies while hindering their foes in combat while creating sheets of ice to traverse rivers and breaking large sheets of ice into snow to create tools and weapons from for them and their allies.

Adventurers

Wintersouls travel for a verity of reasons some seek to improve their skills while others travel to find wealth some travel to meet new people. Oddly enough most don't like the cold and prefer warmer climates yet still hold a fascination for snow and ice and are in search for a place where ice can exist in warm conditions without melting. Although some just travel for its own sake.

Alignment

As Wintersouls tend to spend most of their time wandering for one reason or another they tend toward chaotic alignment this is not required as they can be of any alignment.

Religeon

Most Wintersouls revere Trease the god of frost but this not always the case some worship Hled and others whorhip no gods at all.

Background

Wintersouls usually come from colder reigons where it is difficult to grow crops and hunting is common practice others come from crews out at sea where there controll over snow and ice was invaluable and some even come from simple farming communities in the warmer reigons of the world.

Races

Humans and Gnomes make up a large majority of Winter souls as theese races have the adaptibility to appreceate the versatility this class provides. halflings also make up a precentage of wintersouls. orcs and half orcs tend to be a bit too slow to consider the class and dwarves tend to be too rigid.

Other classes

Wintersouls appreciate the protection barbarian or other martial class can provide and are happy to travel with members of those classes who don't have conflicting personalities with themselves. Wintersouls also appreciate the help of bards who's nature tend to compliment their own. Monks don't provide much to the table as far as Wintersouls are concerned but they can make good traveling companions. Sorcerers can get along with wintersouls as well as they get along with wizards who get along with wintersouls as they would sorcerers.

Role

Wintersouls can fill just about any other roll than tank or trapfinder in a party but most will use their abilities to bolster their allies and hinder their foes.

Class skills

Appraise, bluff, concentration, craft, diplomacy, escape artist, gather information, heal, hide, intimidate, knowledge(arcarna), knowledge (geography), knowledge (nature), listen, move silently, profession, search, sense motive, spot, survival.

skill points, (4+int modifier)

abilities

Intelligence is a must for Wintersouls as it increases the amount of healing they can provide as well as granting bonus skill points constitution comes second to make up for their relitive weakness in combat.

Weapon and armor proficiency

Wintersouls are proficient with all simple weapons and light armor

Ice alteration (su)

A wintersoul may spend a full round action to turn water into ice or ice to snow he may do both if so pleases but the ice must be present at the start of the turn to be made into snow he may do this in a volume up to the maximum amount of snow he can control

Snow control (su)

A wintersoul may control an amount of snow acording to the chart above, moving it along the ground or through the air as long as it is within 60ft of the wintersoul and may form it into any shape he so desire he must make the required craft check if aplicable this action may be preformed wile the wintersoul is concious regardless if he can move or speak and functions in an antimagic feld. This is a move action.

Frost shot (su)

At first level A Wintersoul gains the ability to deal 1d8 + int modifier cold damage to a target within 120ft as a ranged touch attack as a standard action the damage from this attack increases by 1d8 at 3rd level and every 3rd level thereafter.

Snow healing (su)

A wintersoul may infuse snow with positive energy to heal a target (including himself) for an amount equal to his wintersoul level + his int modifier+1 (minimum1) this is a full round action

WintersBreath (su)

A wintersoul may breath a cone of cold with range equal to 1/2 his wintersoull level X 5ft it deals 1d6 X Wintersoul level +int modifier as cold damage this is a standard action.

Truesnow (su)

Snow controlled by a wintersoul gains fire resistance 5+wintersoul level+ int modifier

Bloodsnow (su)

A wintersoul may use his own blood to form snow doing so is a move action that provokes an attack of oppertunity and deals 1 con damage to the wintersouls per 1ft3 of snow produced this way this snow may be shaped as any other snow and does not count against his snow controlled limit at a time this snow dissapears if he regains the constitution spent on it.

Biting chill (su)

Starting at 5th level whenever a Wintersoul would deal cold damage to a creature with cold resistance they may ignore up to 5 points of cold resistance. At 8th level when they deal cold damage to a creature they may have it take the same amount of damage at the start of the next round unless it passes a fortitude save with a dc of 10+int modifier+1/2 Wintersoul level.

Terrainshift (su)

A wintersoul may alter ice into razor ice or snow faerie frost equal to the amount of snow he may controll the will save is equal to 10+1/2his wintersoul level+his int modifier.

Snow guardian (su)

A wintersoul may summon a guardian made out of the snow he is controlling it is treated as a stone golem for all purposes except it looses the beserk ability and has hit dice equal to 1/2 his wintersoul level if small (less than 5ft/5ft/5ft) and bab of a fighter at his wintersoul level if medium(5ft/5ft/5ft-9ft/9ft/9ft) it has hit dice equal to his wintersoul level and if large(10ft/10t/10ft-20ft/20ft/20ft) ot has hit dice equal to 1.5X his wintersoul level. in addition the golem gains the abilities of the snow the wintersoul made it out of and gains +1 natural armor that stacks with other sources of natural armor for each 1ft/1ft/1f5 f snow used to create it. if a wintersoul creates a guardian he may not take any actions other than talking and dismissing the guardian until it has been dismissed dismissing the guardian is a standard action. a wintersoul may create the guardian in such a way that it incases him without harm if he so desires.

Wings of winter


Starting at 9th level if a Wintersoul is controlling at least 5ft/5ft/5ft of snow they may shape it into wings (move action) granting the Wintersoul fly speed equal to 5ft for every 1ft/1ft/1ft of snow used to create them. While using this class feature they may not fly more than 90ft above a surface (solid or liquid) and may not shape the snow used to create their wings until they dismiss them (standard action) this snow counts against their maximum snow controlled.

Weather the storm

At 10th level a Wintersoul may ignore the negative effects of weather.

Jötuun (?)

Starting at 11th level a Wintersoul gains the cold subtype, cold resistance 10, +2 constitution, and +4 to their natural armor bonus.

Weather manipulation (su)

A wintersoul may use control weather as a free action 8/day the winter soul may only use this ability to start or stop a snowstorm

Frozen prison(su)

At 18th level a Wintersoul may force a creature they can see within 120ft to make a reflex saving throw on a failed save that creature becomes incased in ice and rendered incapacitated, the ice created by this effect cannot be destroyed except by a wish or miracle spell. On a successful save that creature instead takes 10d8 cold damage and is slowed.

Bloodsnow body (su)

A wintersoul is treated as though his body were blood snow he gains +4 to strength permanently as well as all abilities bloodsnow would normally have, his type changes to the cold sub type. he also gains +6 to ac and no longer ages, he may change his appearance at will.

Any thing you would change?

I can't really tell you what I think of the class. The formatting is really difficult to read right now and I can't understand everything. That said what I can see looks fairly weak. Not a huge amount of versatility and no reliable damage source til level 3.

First, I suggest going to a thread with a table, quote that post, and then copy-past the table formatting for your own class. To save time find a homebrew class with the same base attack bonus / saving throws as Wintersoul.

Better formatting in general would be great.

Actually, I think just using bolding in addition to the table change would be enough to greatly increase readability. It also helps to specify if each ability is (Ex), (Su), or (Sp)!

Bolding is your Friend (Ex)
At level 1 your class receives a +5 bonus to readability.

Other comments:

1) What does "control" mean, exactly? Can I make the snow float in the air? Can I have it slide across the ground? How forcefully can I move it - could I try to trip someone by smashing snow into them?

2) What level of power / versatility are you aiming for here?

Also, frost shot could be okay (needs to note what kind of action it is) but I think further defining how exactly the central ability (controlling snow) is supposed to work in practice, and deciding the general power level you are looking for, should be done first.

Alright so to do list.

1)define core class feature and work out power level of class I think I want the power level of the class to be low teir 2 (like an unoptimized psion) or high tier 3 (like a optimized rogue).

2) fix organization of post this includes spelling, capitalization,and formatting.

If you're aiming for relatively high power then either another damage type or a way to penetrate cold resistance is a good idea, As is its pretty easy to shut down this class by having something immune to cold. Also better movement methods and a heck of a lot more versatility. Maybe look at the pathfinder Winter Witch archetype and PrC for inspiration.

Most high tier classes get access to flight between 5th and 9th level with short term flight coming online around level 5 and all day flight around level 9.

Ok got two new features cooked up the first one helps against cold resistant enemies:

Biting chill (su)
