"A giant, smiling Lego man was fished out of the sea in the Dutch resort of Zandvoort on Tuesday." - Reuters

This is the kind of news I like. Surreal, with no death and lots of humour.

The BBC hasn't got this story (just a photo) and so I will link to Reuters

why cant I get anything cool, like that, when I go fishing. Other than fish (which are fine) all I ever get are old shoes, cans, or tires and such.

I want to find a 6 foot tall lego man swimming in a lake!!

The BBC was wondering where that went, they lost it during filming for Doctor Who, they probably consider it a spoiler for the latest Doctor Who Baddie Race so they withheld reporting it.

:smalltongue: Nah I'm just screwing with you.:smalltongue:

I knew it! Legoland is invading the Netherlands!

I, for one, welcome our new plastic overlords.

Hahaha.

That is particularly cool. I agree with the Prince - my kind of news, right there....

I'll third that - three quarters of the news you see is shooting, kidnapping, and (in the U.S.) "the War". I look at the headlines and close my browser. :smalltongue:

A lego man is awesome, though. Can you imagine the double-take the guy who caught it must have done? Priceless.

I love the very engrish shirt. "No real than you are."

It makes me suspect some art student did a poor translation and set it adrift. But this is defiantly my type of news.

And the scariest part is that he already has huge armies of tiny agents stored in a closed near you! (I know I do)

and I hereby proclaim myself:
first high priest of the cult of the 6 foot tall Lego overlord of the Netherlands.

The Reuters link says 8-foot, and 2.5 meters is indeed, just over 8 feet tall.
SOOO, just in case it's actually 8-feet and not 6-feet.

I hereby proclaim myself:
First high priest of the cult of the approximately 8 foot tall Lego overlords of a nation far away from myself unlike YPU.

As an aside: I really miss my legos now. :smalleek:

I found a site dedicated to him, but it's written in some form of elvish (or Dutch), so not sure if it's the site of the artist or whatever.

Could you put up a link to that site? If its Dutch I could translate. On a site note, I wonder if he would like to be guest of honor at the Dutch meeting.

This has been around Dutch newslogs for a little while now. He was also featured at the "Dance Valley" festival and his name is Ego Leonard (www.egoleonard.com, in Dutch and English).

"Coincidentally", the doll is owned and created by an employee of the beachbar 50 meters away from the doll. It's a publicity stunt. He seems to have gained a worldwide following and people all over the globe are asking him to wash ashore.

Silly me. Forgot adding the link. Well, seems Rykaj saw to that.

the Spits said it was a viral campaign for a Lego exhibition in Eindhoven...
Lego comp. and the gallery deny this though.

EDIT
according to the site mentioned above his mission is to "show that the real world is more important then the "virtual world" and that holding true to your own identity is more important than belonging to a group" (paraphrased)

I'm still not sure about it not being advertisement for something though...

Speaking as both a man of dutch descent and a jedi master of legodom, I hereby offer my services to my goofy pseudo-germanic bretheren. I know their weapons! I know their weaknesses! I have my own home-made tonfa! Call me!

It's sorta like the second coming of Jesus. If Jesus were a 6-foot Lego man. Which he very well could be.

And i thought lego's were so child friendly.
