So, some kind anon on /tg/ went and shared one of his projects in a thread, and I've been having a lot of fun with this:
https://www.mipui.net/app/

Long story short: It's a tool to build your own maps and buildings for tabletop games. It even includes tokens if you wanna build dungeons and such. Pretty neat stuff.

I'm that anon :-) Glad you liked it!

Also to mention one of the tool's unique strengths - it supports real-time collaboration, Google Docs style.

Really nice tool. Easy to use, looks nice, auto-saves (very helpful), more tokens than I know what to do with. I'll be using it.

I really like the "reveal cells in line of sight" function. Automatically calculating line of sight is a very good thing in a dungeon.

(not the most in-depth review, but then I haven't made a proper map yet)

I might have to try this, roll20 never did satisfy me and I'm kinda tired of having to use graph paper and terrible handwriting.

This is really cool dude. Also, I noticed that you can save them in PNGs, which is really neat, since most editors don't allow you to do so.

This looks nifty. I'll have to compare it to Ye Olde Mapmaker, which I had used previously. Looks like a step up though.

Personally I find the web interface of Ye Olde Mapmaker extremely confusing and unintuitive... and I also think my end result looks better.

Maybe it's just because I don't have much experience with it, though. If you do have experience there, I'd appreciate a more thorough comparison.

Part of the reason why I went for Ye Olde Mapmaker was for it's cross-platform use. What I will do though is I'll try to build the same map in both this program and YOMM, as well as showing my original outline, so we can get a comparison. I'll try to get it done after work today.

Thanks, that will be very helpful!

My editor supports viewing on mobile, by the way; I'm also working on editing capabilities on mobile, but the current version is admittedly still clunky :-(

Let's start with the comparisons. The images are in the spoiler tag.

The biggest pro for Ye Olde Mapmaker, in my opinion, is how easy it is to see everything once it's placed. The black on beige pops well.

That's about the end of the line where it beats out Mipui. Mipui lets me make a map that's the perfect size, whereas YOMM has limited mapsizes. The one in the image is the largest option available, and it's still cut off. Mipui has more options for tokens and icons, but for some reason, going to the token tab caused the site to delay a bit. Not sure if it was trying to load a lot of icons at once, but just wanted to notate it.

On the whole, I like using Mipui a lot more than Excel or Ye Olde Map Maker. The gripes I have about it are really superficial. If I had a wishlist, it would be an account creation process so I could save it on one computer and load it on another, since I get bored at work. As is though, I've found my new map making software for dungeon maps.

Account creation process is high on my TODO list - it will basically show you a list of your own maps, so you don't have to save the URLs somewhere. It will be optional, though, for those who don't want to bother with logging in.

Cool editor! I like the different map themes, especially the Old School format :)

Is there a limit on the size of the map? Seems to be slower and slower when I add lines.

There is no limit, but the editor will indeed get slower and slower. My only two recommendations here:

1. Use Chrome. In the current version of Mipui I have a Chrome-specific optimization that works well. I hope to have a Firefox optimization soon as well.
2. Split huge maps into multiple maps in the editor, and later stitch them back together in your favorite image editor. I know it's suboptimal... but it's a solution.

Nice! Often hard to find a decent builder.
