View Full Version : DM Help What's a good name for a sentient ooze that's also a mobster?

I...I don't know how to better explain the question beyond the title. But I'll give a brief background: My D&D group has had an unfortunate encounter with a family of doppelgangers who're trying to supplant individuals in their city, including it's lord, an old acquaintance with the patriarch of the family. They found their hiding spot in the city but the majority of the doppelgangers got away, though the party heard someone relay a message via Sending Stone - "Send in The Cleaners."

The Cleaners are an all-monstrous gang of thugs and scoundrels in the criminal underworld, and their sights are set on doing the job the doppelgangers were unable to accomplish. To do so, the leader is likely going to storm into the town and unleash this sentient ooze on the town.

He just needs a good name. Bonus points if it's a pun.

The Maid Man. (Riff on The Cleaners, and organized crime, and the fact that oozes are the cleanup crew in a dungeon.)

“Bones.” (In the same way a big guy might be called “Tiny.”

Alternately: Jimmy No-Bones

The Capooze.

Jim.

Seriously though, The Globfather.

-Edit

If he is split up, you could call the smaller oozes Globfather part 2 etc

B.O.B. (short for Benzoate Ostylezene Bicarbonate). Granted, this is only marginally funny, and then only if your players have seen Monsters vs Aliens.

But I think you have a winner here. Bonus points for having it be the controller of other oozes. And having an acid-resistant hat and button-hole flower.

And curse the 10 character minimum.

I like this suggestion, because it's subtle. Why would a mobster telegraph their race to any do-gooders ahead of time? Why would Doppelgangers not be more discreet with their names?

"Oh man, we better send Oozy McOozeface. I sure do hope no one is listening and could determine what race that guy is! That'd be terribly embarrassing! And it sure would make it easier to kill our minion! My favorite part of being a criminal is assuming no one is listening, ever!"

Well if we want subtle for this (and not corny)

the B.O.B reference from above is a fantastic one

Subtle might play on the color of the ooze:

"Puddin' a request for Mr. Black."

Or play on a well-known character of a different type:

"We's here representin' th' in'rests of Robin Goofella."

The pun is of course Goofella, a play on the mob term "Goodfella", but Robin Goodfellow is a well-known Fey name -- thus using an accent to disguise the emphasis on 'goo' may misdirect the players.

What if the ooze is really self conscious about being an ooze and kills anyone whom reminds him of the fact. He adopts human affectations and idiosyncracies, wearing clothes and whatnot, and anyone who doesnt play along gets disolved in acid?

So replace my "fedora and pinhole" with "acid-proof top hat and monocle?"
(An acid-proof top hat would be a great treasure find).
