View Full Version : The Artificer – Revised [3.5e, PEACH]

This is an attempt to create an Artificer that focuses near-exclusively on magic item manufacture. As such, the pseudo-spellcaster ability of Infusions has been removed. To compensate for this loss, they gain all of the basic magic item crafting feats by level 9, and increasingly gain class features that let them manufacture magic items faster and cheaper than anyone else. Their primary role is as a magical item dispenser for the party – if you need it, they can make it, and probably faster and cheaper than you think.

Analyze Magic (Su)
At a glance, you can tell if an item is magical. If you succeed in a Spellcraft check (DC is 5 + the caster level for the item), you can tell what its magic properties are, how to access its functions, and how many charges it has remaining (if applicable).

Bonus Item Creation Feats (Ex)
These are available from any source your GM will allow.

Bonus Metamagic Feats (Su)
These are available from the following list: Deceptive Spell, Delay Spell, Discriminating Spell, Empower Spell, Extend Spell, Invisible Spell, Intensify Spell, Mastery of Shaping, Maximize Spell, Persistent Spell, Quicken Spell, Sculpt Spell, Silent Spell, Spell Thematics, Threnodic Spell, Transdimensional Spell, Widen Spell.

Cost Reduction (Ex)
You can craft magic items for less than the typical 50% of market value cost. No other cost reduction methods stack with this ability.

Level I:
You can craft magic items for 45% of their market value.

Level II:
You can craft magic items for 40% of their market value.

Level III:
You can craft magic items for 35% of their market value.

Level IV:
You can craft magic items for 30% of their market value.

Level V:
You can craft magic items for 25% of their market value.

Craft Construct (Ex)
See the Monster Manual I, p. 303.

Craft Dedicated Wright (Ex)
See the Eberron Campaign Setting, p. 285.

Craft Epic Item (Ex)
See the Epic Level Handbook.

Craft Magic Arms and Armor (Ex)
See the d20 3.5 SRD.

Craft Manaforge (Ex)
The Manaforge is a kind of alternative Dedicated Wright. It's roughly the magical equivalent of a nanoforge – dump in raw materials, tell it what you want done, and it will eventually spit out a finished enchanted item. In its base form, it's usually a large chest. For double the crafting cost and time, it also functions as a Packmate homunculus, and will follow you around as you wish, effectively giving you a portable workshop.

Craft Rod (Ex)
See the d20 3.5 SRD.

Craft Scepter (Ex)
See Lost Empires of Faerűn, p. 8.

Craft Staff (Ex)
See the d20 3.5 SRD.

Craft Wand (Ex)
See the d20 3.5 SRD.

Craft Wondrous Item (Ex)
See the d20 3.5 SRD.

Etch Schema (Ex)

Forge Ring (Ex)
See the d20 3.5 SRD.

Improve Item Performance (Su)
When using magic items, you can use your own class level and Intelligence score for the Spell Save DC and Spell Resistance checks, regardless of the level the item was made at.

Improved Homunculus (Ex)
See Magic of Eberron, p. 49.

Item Creation (Ex)
Creating magic items requires a Spellcraft check (DC is 5 + the caster level for the item). See the Pathfinder magic item creation rules, but ignore any prerequisites except for item crafting feats and metamagic feats – all that matters is making the Spellcraft check. You can also incorporate metamagic feats into your items; you must have acquired the feat to do so. This raises the Spellcraft DC check by +1 per feat. The base crafting cost is 50% of market value, and the base crafting time is 100% of normal.

Recycle Magic Items (Su)
You can recycle the magical essence from magical items, which you can then use to spend on producing new magic items, instead of spending gold. This process takes 8 hours of work and destroys the item.

Level I:
At this level, you can recycle 8% of an item’s market value.

Level II:
At this level, you can recycle 16% of an item’s market value.

Level III:
At this level, you can recycle 25% of an item’s market value.

Stack Dedicated Wright (Ex)
For an increase in the crafting cost and time, you can create a Dedicated Wright (or Manaforge) that can work more than 8 hours a day.

Level I:
For double the crafting cost and time, you can create a Dedicated Wright (or Manaforge) that can work 12 hours a day instead of just 8; each day of work now counts as 1.5 days.

Level II:
For triple the crafting cost and time, you can create a Dedicated Wright (or Manaforge) that can work 16 hours a day instead of just 8; each day of work now counts as 2 days.

Level III:
For quadruple the crafting cost and time, you can create a Dedicated Wright (or Manaforge) that can work 20 hours a day instead of just 8; each day of work now counts as 2.5 days.

Level IV:
For quintuple the crafting cost and time, you can create a Dedicated Wright (or Manaforge) that can work 24 hours a day instead of just 8; each day of work now counts as 3 days.

Use Any Magic Item (Ex)
You can automatically use any magic item as if you were of the correct class/race/alignment to do so.

small question why 30 levels were the all classes go 20 then stop.

Yea -- normally the epic progression is seperate from the normal (1-20) progression. It is really disorienting to see it not be like that.
