I've no idea of the grammatically correct version, but I believe plural of matey is mateys in Pirate-Talk.

Seems like fun. But I have one question.

Why?

One day, a buxom lass was wanderin' the shores of her native hometown, somewhere in England or Kansas or some other boring coastal place. She lived her life like all other buxom lasses around her village, doing some ill defined task or something. But she craved adventure and excitement! So 'twas most fortuitious that pirates raided her village and butchered her hometown. And so now we talk like pirates to commemorate her love.

Aye, struts, an open source framework you can use t' build Web applications, is based on the popular Model-'iew-controller (MVC2) design paradigm. The framework is built upon standard technologies like Ja'a Ser'lets, Ja'abeans, Resourcebundles, and Xml, and it pro'ides flexible and extensible components. Struts implements the Controller layer in the form o' Actionser'let and recommends buildin' the 'iew layer usin' Jsp tag libraries. Why do people blindly support downright moronic stereotypes?

Honestly. The 18th-century pirate wasn't a daredevil vagabond with strange talk, he was a criminal who had acquired a ship and crew.

Come on, are people going to envisage terrorists as inspired revolutionaries in 200 years?

Don't get me wrong, it's some fun to act on the 'holiday', but there are too many people who think that Disney = History. And when people start using this strange dialect in a manner other than bitingly sarcastic or pointless humor, it's terribly disturbing.

Why do people blindly support downright moronic stereotypes?

Frankly, because it's fun. I'd venture to guess that most of the people who've posted within this thread to this point are aware of the true nature of pirates during their day, and not succumb to Hollywood renditions of them. However, TLaPD is not about the truth, so much as it is about the fun AND the Hollywood stereotype helps that greatly! Errol Flynn, Tyrone Power! Awesome! So don't run around poo-pooing folks' fun.

International Talk Like a Pirate Day!

Wednesday, September 19

Arrr—Listen up Mateys!

As an official Park University Pirate you are invited to celebrate “International Talk Like a Pirate Day” on Wednesday, September 19 along with Park’s faculty, staff and 26,402 of your classmateys nationwide. Be on the lookout, because loads of fun Pirate-themed booty will soon be arriving at your campus and we hope you will display and/or wear the items proudly!

So that you are ready to speak properly on that day, here are a few pirate words that you can practice (Aye, Ahoy, Yo-Ho-Ho, Arrr!, Rrrr! Scallywag, and Yrrr!). However, for the more advanced Park Pirates, open the attached document or go to http://homepage.mac.com/crabola/PirateGlossary/Personal14.html to significantly expand and improve your Pirate vocabulary in preparation of the big day!

Remember, you’re not alone in this celebration! Employees nationwide will also display their Pirate Pride, so anticipate that on September 19 - Park University faculty and staff will be answering their office phones and greeting visitors with the time honored tribute, “It’s a great day to be a Pirate!”

So “bucko,” partake of the festivities and have a fun day celebrating being a Park Pirate on Wednesday, September 19!

Hello, gents, I've updated my avatar.

What do you mean I'm not talking like a pirate? Do you truly believe that pirates spoke like degenerate inebriated sea scum? Good glaciers, man, what kind of foolish sensational literature have you been reading? I'll have you know that the good Captain Morgan himself was the son of a Welsh squire. No brutish language for him!

And furthermore, I'm not a pirate. Don't insult me with that hideous word. Pirates are greedy, horrible, bloodthirsty villains who'll just as soon cut your throat than share a nice drink with you. I'll have you know, sirrah, that when I choose to ransack a ship, I do so in the name of the Antarctic crown. That I may profit a bit from these raids is simply a mere bonus. Think about that as you're walking my plank. Now go, get!

Maraud and embezzle, and even highjack,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
We kindle and char, inflame and ignite,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
We burn up the city, we're really a fright,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
We're rascals, scoundrels, villains, and knaves,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
We're devils and black sheep, really bad eggs,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
We're beggars and blighters, never-do-well cads,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
Aye, but we're loved by our mommies and dads,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.

Nuh uh, best pirate song ever is Hoist the Colors...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuKx7AgHLes

Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the colors high.
Heave ho,
thieves and beggars,
never shall we die.

The king and his men
stole the queen from her bed
and bound her in her Bones.
The seas be ours
and by the powers
where we will we'll roam.

Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the colors high.
Heave ho, thieves and beggars,
never shall we die.

Some men have died
and some are alive
and others sail on the sea
– with the keys to the cage...
and the Devil to pay
we lay to Fiddler's Green!

The bell has been raised
from it's watery grave...
Do you hear it's sepulchral tone?
We are a call to all,
pay head the squall
and turn your sail toward home!

Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the colors high.
Heave ho, thieves and beggars,
never shall we die.

Here be a little ditty known to all those scurvy dogs who live in my home province of Saskatchewan, in the beautiful country of Canada! Sing along, or I'll make ye walk the plank!

Well I used to be a farmer and I made a living fine,
I had a little stretch of land along the CP line,
But times went by and though I tried the money wasn't there,
And bankers came and took my land and told me "Fair is Fair".

I looked for every kind of job the answer always "No",
"Hire you now" they'd always laugh, "we just let twenty go!"
The government, they promised me a measly little sum,
But I've got too much pride to end up just another bum!
Then I thought who gives a damn if all the jobs are gone,
I'm gonna be a pirate, on the river Saskatchewan!

Chorus:
And it's a Heave-ho High-ho Comin' down the plains,
Stealin' Wheat and Barley and all the other grains,
And it's a Ho-hey, High-hey, Farmers bar yer doors,
When you see the Jolly Roger on Regina's mighty shores.

Well you think the local farmers would know that I'm at large,
But just the other day I found an unprotected barge,
I snuck up right behind them and they were none the wiser,
I rammed the ship and sank it and I stole their Fertilizer

A Bridge outside of Moose Jaw spans a mighty river,
Farmers cross in so much fear their stomach's are a quiver,
'Cause they know that Tractor Jack's a-hiding in the bay,
I'll jump the bridge and knock 'em cold and sail off with their hay!

Chorus

Well Mountie Bob he chased me, he was always at my throat,
He followed on the shorelines 'cause he didn't own a boat,
But cutbacks were a comin' and the Mountie lost his job,
So now he's sailin' with me and we call him Salty Bob!

A Swingin' Sword and Skull and Bones are pleasant company,
I never pay my Income Tax and screw the GST (SCREW IT!)
Prince Albert down to Saskatoon I'm the Terror of the Sea,
If you wanna reach the Co-op, boy, you gotta get by me!

Chorus

Well pirate life's appealing but you don't just find it here,
I've heard that in Alberta there's a band of Buccaneers,
They rome the Athabasca from Smith to North McKay,
And you're gonna lose your Stetson if you have to pass their way.

Well Winter is a comin' and a chill is in the breeze,
My pirate days are over once the river starts to freeze,
I'll be back in springtime but now I have to go,
I hear there's lots of plunderin' down in New Mexico.

And it's a Heave-ho! Hi-ho! Comin' down the plains,
Stealin' Wheat and Barley and all the other grains,
And it's it's a Ho-hey! Hi-Hey! Farmers bar yer doors,
When you see the Jolly Roger on Regina's mighty shores.

(Repeat)

When you see the Jolly Roger on Regina's mighty shores
When you see the Jolly Roger on Regina's mighty shores
A-har!

@V: Yar! Thank ye, GimliFett! The song is a much beloved in-joke among Saskatchewan residents, who live in the middle of Canada and are entirely land-locked.
