What would you do if the world had Magic like D&D? What would you be? But the modern world wasnt gone either, so you would still have Technology and futuristic stuff?

I would be a friggin sorcere/Fighter lol that had a Sniper Rifle and Shotgun.

I'd be a rogue.
Tons of skills, with the high INT bonus, but they'd be spread so thin that I would only actually be REALLY good at a select few of them.

For for purpose of this question, would we have to stick as humans, or could we be other races? I'd be a Wizard who specialises in Evocations while taking Enchantments and Necromancy as barred schools (I have reasonably high intelligence).

I'd probably be a ranger. I'm not lawful enough to be a paladin, and I has a way with animals. and dual wielding.

cool but what modern stuff would you apply to that. unfortunately you have to look at it like this you cant be another race on the sole purpose of this question because you are human in real life. so if D&D actually came to life you would still be a human but All the other races would appear as well (through some rift or something i dont know the Aurora bory allas or somethign lol:smallbiggrin: ) but no you cant be any race except Human. but apply modern technology as well. (i know this sounds like a rifts thing but hey) and dont use futuristic stuff just apply what tech we have today

If DnD suddenly came to life? I dare say we'd all probably be commoners. :smalltongue: Apart from my mate Dave, who actually does kill dragons for a living anyway.

I would be a Factotum: Dabbler in everything, specialized in none. The New Renaissance Man. I'd say I'm pretty intelligent, somewhat charismatic and have quick hands and feat, but only average strength, health and wisdom.

My ego is too big for me to be some lousy NPC class. :smallwink:

I'd probably be a Ranger 1/Barbarian 3/ Spirit Shaman X. Good in the woods, good in a fight, good with the creatures of nature, and yet surprisingly good with people.

Skippy
2007-09-14, 08:37 AM
Admit it, we'd all be a bunch of drunks, hanging around taverns all days just waiting any NPC to get there and asks us to do something.

I'd be a sorcerer, I think. I'm kinda nerd...

I would go sue FASA (http://shadowrun.com/) for lying to me, since there would be no deckers, or fixers, and they got their magic completely wrong.

Then I would have to trade in my block of d6's and go get some more d20's.:smallwink:

I would be a Warlock, Sorcerer, or possibly a Beguiler. Maybe a Cleric of Agnostic/Atheist beliefs. Favored Soul of Atheism!

Wis and Cha are my high stats, though Int isn't bad at all either. However, I'm unlikely to actually go out and read anything, so no learned magics or anything for me.

As for what I'd do in modern times? The same thing I'm doing now, I'd just sneak my tricks in to make it easier. I wouldn't be all like "Look at me and my awesome power!", no, I'd just sit there, and act perfectly normal.

A drow Necromancer/Rogue/Shadow Dancer. At least, that's who I imagine myself to be in a D&D world...>.>

Technology-wise I'd probably use it loads when disabling devices and picklocking, and might use small pistols and knives.

What'd I do? Wander around, trying to get more knowledge. Probably.

Exeson
2007-09-14, 11:18 AM
I would be a Ninja specializing in skills like Tumble and Balance, I would wield some form of hand gun and a flaming Katana. Failing that I would go for a charismatic Beguiler.

I would get into the tavern construction business.

Y'know, I believe this is the second thread I've seen in regard to D&D/real life.

As it happens, I have an entire screenplay that takes some rather ordinary geek-like people and turns them into their characters from the RPG they play. In the original version of the story, I had used friends from the real world. Alas, a falling out made me reconsider such a thing. The only character that remained the same throughout every version of this tale is myself, who...Well, before reality took a hard left in the story, I was the Game Master. Then I became the GM "in reality" and, as a result, all of the NPCs...including the villains. How would reality play out under such circumstances? *Here's a taste:

M: Rob carries his insulin in his backpack. Without his meds, he could get extremely sick.

C: And itíll be worse if he eats.

M: That's assuming that whomever or whatever he is will sit down to real food. With Rob's imagination, what if he requires something else?

INT. TACO BELL - NIGHT
Several patrons are seated. They arenít the working class that shows up around noon, but the wasted class that shows up with the late-night munchies.

Rob, dressed in his dark suit and sun glasses, approaches the counter.

The skinny, greasy looking boy behind the register wears a name tag that reads: JIM.

JIM: Welcome to Taco Bell. May I take your order?

ROB: I am in need of a virgin.

JIM: (chuckling) Arenít we all. I know a girl or two, but I think youíre a little old for them.

Robís smile is not a comforting one.

ROB: You do not understand. A virgin need not be female.

Rob raises a hand, and energy starts to flow from Jim.

Jimís entire body stiffens. Only his eyes remain animated, and theyíre filled with abject terror. He attempts to scream, but only releases a strangled gasp and his body withers.

The energy flowing from his victim surrounds Rob and seeps into him.
In a matter of seconds, Jimís burnt, skeletal husk lands with a thud on the floor.

Rob is still smiling as all others around him start to scream.

Not quite the kindhearted barbarian monk you're all accustomed to, eh? :smalltongue:

*Alterations were made to the set up of the Taco Bell scene, which is one of my many favorites in the story. If anyone out there happens to know a Hollywood producer, PM me!!!

....

Nothing says undead paragon of music like a Paladin!

Speaking for myself, I would go the munchkin route. Buy tons of sourcebooks, discover the most cheap ways to exploit experience, and then get 40 levels in everything. (My current favourite is to set my goal as "Slay everything", then say "No, changed my mind, I won't slay everything" and get experience for slaying everything cuz I avoided a fight. Who posted that here? I forget.)

I'd probably be a wizard. I would only own a 9mm because that would be about all I could get a license for in terms of personal weaponry, and I don't want to go to prison like all these walking gun stores will.

Why would you bother with a measley handgun if you were a wizard? Phenominal powers of the universe and all that.

I can totally see myself winding up as an environmental crusader, known in Washington as an Eco terrorist. Sheesh... cast Awaken a few dozen times in a rainforest and suddenly everyone thinks you're anti-corporation.

Because chances are, I wouldn't be working in a weapons lab, so I'd have to buy (and be licensed for) all my offensive spells anyway.

I'd go with Paladin/ Archivist. Spend all day studying and praying, except the days I go to the local hospital to heal the sick. I'd spend a night or two every week wandering around in bad neighborhoods, attracting muggers, so I can bring those who threaten society to justice and rehabilitate them.

Well, duh, I'd have fully completed my transformation to Cat-Muffin.
So my whole aim would be getting a Teleport spell to track down Serpy, and then assembling my koala empire to begin the quest to repopulate the world.

Just a quick FYI for everyone... you can be a fighter or a rogue right now! :P

Bah... if DnD were "real" we'd all want magic..lots and lots of magic. I can pick up a sword any old time... I can even go rob a store or pick a lock if I wanted to... but no matter how hard I try I cant seem to move objects, create fire or summon magical creatures to do my bidding. And believe me.. I do try ;)

Mage... all the way!

Nymphs! Don't forget the Nymphs, and maybe a succubus for those trips to Vegas. What happens in the Abyss stays in the Abyss.

Seriously, would all the D&D critters appear also? Because if they did anything with a Uncommon, or Rare, or Unique encounter rate would probably be put under Federal Protection, and unlawful to hunt/kill/collect for spell ingredients. And what if a Ranger gets married and then divorced? Do they have to get joint custody of the animal companion? Our laws, and rules, and highways and jobs would still be in effect. I can see State vs. Necro-Larry for the crime of unlawful storage of a Human Corpse.

Would you get some PETA jerk splashing blood on your Dragon Scale Armor?

This question is kinda fun, but if you start looking real deep at the implications, it gets real weird. That is why you should never look deeply into the implications of anything ;)

I'd probably go buy a mule, a crapload of oil, some weapons, a cool hat, and head out seeking adventure. I'd start in a low-threat location, like Iowa or France, then work my way up to Africa and Australia.

Along the way, I'd make friends (and probably some enemies) with various members of the local populace and some of them might join up with me. We'd end up being a ragtag group of misfits, also known as the most powerful force known to man. We'd eliminate anyone and anything that would stand in our way, and then take their stuff.

Eventually, we'd figure out how to pass the epic threshold, and start exploring new worlds. Worlds of chaos and madness, where we, having left our sanity behind long ago, would easily manage.

Finally, having travelled beyond the edges of the universe, we would return to Earth, to live the rest of our lives in peace with the massive power we had accumulated.

Of course, by then, everyone will have done all of that, and no one would care :smallsigh:

Well, I'm already pretty much a bard, minus the magic, but plus a non-magical suggestion ability. High charisma, and theres always the whole "summon random girl" ability I seem to have, so why not bard?

Bard or Beguiler or Seer or Telepath for me please.

Love the idea of mass manipulation. And mind reading, and also future telling. Yup, one of those classes for me.

Mr. Moon
2007-09-14, 08:59 PM
Probably? I'd be a wizard, cooped up in her room all day writting fan-fics and casting Fireball or whatever on anyone who dare entire my abode.

Idealy? A rouge/fighter who takes uses her seductive beauty to win her way into good graces. And her huge sword to slash any one she doesn't like in half.

Or maybe bard-barian...hmm...

Lord Fullbladder, Master of Goblins
2007-09-14, 10:00 PM
I would of course be a conglomerate mess of classes. Probably completely ineffective, but that would be okay. See, I'd be the guy who invested in sending people to their dooms to collect the powerful magical artifacts and devices that such an event would strew across the landscape.

Of course I wouldn't tell them what they were, and pobably hire a second group to go after the same artifact or device and tell them that someone else had sent the other group. Competition creates a speedier delivery.

Then I'd make a robot, and in the last years of my life insert my still-living brain into it. The robot would most likey be made of the more-functional artifacts, plus a few gimmicks for fun. Before I put my brain in it, it would have a pilot's compartment.

Ranger/wizard

But low wiz lelvels so I don't get taken out "before I'm too powerful to stop".

Everyone know any caster seen casting a 5th level spell or higher would be killed on sight. No one's gonna let you get that far outside of "gunz can kill you still" range.

Right now I'm a multiclass commoner/ranger/bard. I have fairly high int, cha, and wis scores, dex would be average. Constitutions hard to say, I don't injure easily, but nor am I a big hardy guy. I'm fairly resistant to disease, but only major stuff, half the time I have some small problem. And my strength would be sub par, stupid gym, and it's scariness. Magic is dumb, I'd go north, hunt out of my truck, and in general do what I do when I hit up Labrador every year. Who needs magic when you have snowmobiles?

Maybe a Cleric of Agnostic/Atheist beliefs. Favored Soul of Atheism!

Darn not the first post on this. Since I am (almost) a nurse, a healer class like the cleric, or possibily a common healer class. though I am Agnostic/atheist in my beliefs also, so spells would have to come from inner strength. Taking those online stat test I had above average wisdom, intel, and con. With average strength, cha, and (below average) dex. Cleric it is.

Lavidor
2007-09-15, 06:23 AM
I'd be a commoner, but I'd go train as a Transmuter, ignoring (read: barring) Evocation and Necromancy. I would travel far and wide in order to create a ring of Prestidigitation, then Polymorph myself into an Elan, so that I could live forever.

I'd be a human psionic warrior with a house-ruled powers list (I don't like how a lot of powers aren't psionic at all but just spells who happen to draw from a pool of powerpoints). Dualwielding Elven thinblades and throwing around stuff with telekinesis.

I'm quite a fan of this article (http://www.thealexandrian.net/creations/misc/d&d-calibrating.html), which says basically that, if you try to model real life with D&D stats, no one is really ever higher than 5th level or so. It's a pretty interesting read.

However, as myself right now I'd definitely be like a 2nd level commoner. But, if I had my choice, I'd probably go Archivist (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20051007a&page=3) - all the spells of a cleric, but you use your intelligence to do it, and you don't have to worry about that whole pesky deity thing. Yay for atheist divine casters!

wow. i read that article and i like it. I can't think of any real world hero who can do more than a 5th level job. a 5th level monk would be a world class martial artist and only they would gt that plus 1 ac bonus or longsword damage with bare hands.

I'd probably be a 1st level commoner with 14 int as my highest score.

I also have something to add to that article. Intelligence can be easily based on IQ. 10 is the average int and 100 is the average IQ. You can easily divide your IQ by 10 and get an approximate int score. After all, 18 int is supposed to be about as uncommon for dnd as 180 IQ.

i think i started a pretty fun thread. after reading alot of things im going to have to change my class because well i realize what im more like.

I love to be able to cast spells but i dont fancy the whole wizard preperation every day. so i would go Sorcerer. and since its basically shown that almost everyone is about 5th lvl or so. i am also a very sneaky type and love stealth so my new class would be.

I would be a Sweet Assassin.

2lvl Sorcerer
3lvl Rogue
modern weapon would be sniper rifle with silencer. and a .22 pistol with silencer. then i would have a Dagger dipped in a poisoned sheth. i would only need specific spells. and iwould have True shot to instant kill everything with my sniper rifle or pistle or dagger lol. maybe a sleep or to to do some Coupe De Gras

i would use my spell casting when i get higher levels to make myself invisible and cast silence on my self( i know that sounds wierd but think about no noise what so ever and im invisible i wont need to cast any more spells)

My stats are about

Stngth 15 ( break dancing makes you pretty strong but only enough
to through your body around)

Con 15 (im a cross country runner so my stamina is pretty good)

Dex 20 (im a break dancer i think i have like maximum dex lol)

Intel 14 (im pretty smart but its me lacking in area this may affect my
rogueness)

Wis 14 (lol this score well i dont know how its like that but it is haha)

Char 18 (every one i have ever met has always seemed to like me and those that didnt eventually did hell my girlfriend hated me before we dated lol)

and those are my actual stats using book to transfer your actual mental and physical abilities to the game.

Actually, I don't think my life would be much different than what it is already. I'd still train with my kung fu class (chi work would SO rock, even more than it does already) and get paid for tattooing people (but with shiny magical tattoos), and being a paladin/monk I'd occaisionally beat up bad people and lecture them about honor and stuff. I guess the only real differences would be that my katana would be a +whatever magical weapon and my chi work and reiki would have nifty visual effects.

So, yeah, basically the stuff I already do, only cooler.

I'd be a SwashBuckler 3 / Ranger 3 / Rogue 2, I do have skills with a Rapier and I Have had many pets over the years (the only reason I don't have one now is because the Land-Lord said no, since it's a Coastal town it's pretty hard to find anything with a Pet's allowed policy) and I have stolen a few things In my life, I'm not all to proud but at least I know how, also I have a bit of knowledge when It comes to cameras and security (ask me to name 10 of the places a Camera would be found In my school, I'll tell you 8).

I'd use all my lewt 2 buy me some Xbox 360, More PC parts, Lots of games and a whole goddamn Empire based in Ireland (don't worry, Gitp members are free to enter).

Mr Szarbo, my math Teacher, would be fired for the Ownership of Sexually explicit materials and bringing them to school, Mr Munn would be Dead, cause of the Time he suspended me for Defending a Friend, Nobody would enter the Library without my Permission (I'd Block it off in the case of a Zombie outbreak), I'd buy the Schools in the Area and the Classes would be replaced with Fighter type training.

Me and my Friend would Dress up in capes with 'stashs and start evilly laughing for the sake of looking cool, we'd tie people to Train Tracks for the extra lulz.

Forrestfire
2007-09-17, 07:12 PM
i'd be an expert specializing in Knowledge(D&D) which, in this situation, would be knowledge(How the world works).

Well, as pointed out by various abjurers, abjuration is not magic wherein the magic interacts with the world. It is magic where the magic interacts with the very fabric of magic. To control abjuration, therefor, is to control magic. So I'd become an abjurer. Probably.

Alternatively, living in a rural area like i do, near lots of swamps, hills, and forests, I might become a druid. At the risk, of course, of making myself look like a new-ager. Except, you know, not one of those "I understand modern ecology for some reason and am a vegitarian and am at total peace with nature and want there to be trees everywhere despite the obvious fact that worldwide forestation would cause massive habitat destruction in naturally unforested regions and beleive that nature is defined by trees and woodlands because I'm roleplayed by a whiny suburban kid who doesn't understand the first damn thing about the wilderness" druids. I'd be a swamp druid. Hell yeah. Calling forth my fungal minions and shambling mounds to crush intruders upon my bog.

Well, I'd most likely be a bard, hanging out in taverns/ bars, inspiring other people to do things for me. I'd be singing about treasure, dungeons, and great heroes, the normal bard stuff. And go on adventures using all of my newfound bard skills.

If I could be a Paladin of Freedom, I could go on adventures using whatever newfound paladin abilities I would have. I would most likely fight Paladins of Tyranny.

boy scout = levels in ranger or druid...probably ranger b/c of extensive firearms training and substitute a rifle for the bow
