Everyone has a song that they connect with, perhaps it is the lyrics at really fit with your life or experiences or maybe you just can't get enough of a song? either way, we all have a certain song that we love, and I am asking what yours is.

As for me? I am not to sure, probably a toss up between Running, It's too late, both by Evermore and Go West by The Pet Shop Boys.

It is worth mentioning that I also listen to the first couple of minutes of Lose Yourself before every rugby match.

"I'm In a Hurry (and Don't Know Why)" By Alabama. I hardly listen to country music, and this song just fits my life and personality so well.

"Streams of Whisky" by the Pogues.

Eggy knows what he likes.

"Streams of Whisky" by the Pogues.

Eggy knows what he likes.

Just remember, don't cross the streams! (or you'll get blended whiskey, which makes Cúchulainn cry)

I don't know that I could honestly say I've got a personal anthem, as my moods (and the sort of music that resonates with me at the time) changes so often. But in the vein of bosssmiley, "I'm a Man You Don't Meet Everyday," by the Pogues fits in there somewhere.

Common Rotation's "Offstage Lines" doesn't sum me up well at all, but for some odd reason I rather identify with it, so that's it, 'til I kill it or find something better.

Well in an optomistic mood such as this

Alive - Pearl Jam (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCgFYz7VX74)
Lithium Nirvana (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUUHNf0S5cA)

However I would consider neither an actual anthem, I'll post that once I decide on one.:smallwink:

Svoboda (http://russmus.net/song.jsp?band=DDT&album=14&song=9#eng) by DDT (link goes to English translation of lyrics). It's a beautiful, haunting, transcendent song. The title means Freedom, and it is a song for wanderers. It was the first song in Russian I heard outside of the USSR. When I hear it, it kicks up so strongly the feeling to find my home ... I'm a foreigner everywhere, a man without a country. So I don't like to stay in one place for too long, although it's often unavoidable. Whenever I leave a place knowing that I won't come back, having been disappointed again in my search to find a place of belonging, I think of this song.

Mama, mama kak ya ustal ...

Hmm... Actually a tough question for me. I have themes for various aspects of my life.

But what I'd probably say is the biggest theme for my life would be Creed's My Sacrifice.

"If You Had a Bad Time" by Alkaline Trio.

Seriously, I can't think of a song that's both as inspirational and tear-jerking as this one.

I have different songs that remind me of various things in my life, rather than one that reminds me of everything.

for instance (all of these songs have a reason behind them btw):
Hard to Concentrate (RHCP) reminds me of a really good friend/ex
while Far Away (Nickelback) reminds me of my first kiss
Who I Am Hates Who I've Been (Reliant K) reminds me of the period between 7th and 8th grade.

there are more, but i dont wanna list them

God of Thunder by Kiss. I've known that song for a long time, ever since I spent a week with my headbanging cousin when I was 3. It brings back memories of better days. That, and it's simply so badass.

I don't choose personal anthems, I write them. This one was me six years ago:

Those are some nice compositions, Norbert. It's at least as good as, or better than the junk they make us read in school.

_____
Now.. at the risk of sounding like a really shallow "OMIGOD ANIME DESU!" kind of person, I'm going to have to champion Hare Hare Yukai by Hirano Aya as my personal anthem.

The song's lyrics are nothing special, and it sounds like just another bubblegum pop song at first listen. But for me, the lyrics are just the right mix of insane, philosophy and motivational to represent me.

Let’s gather up happiness
It’s so simple by-this-much
Chase it, try catching it
We love a big dream & dream, right?

Previously, I would have picked something darker and more "meaningful", but after looking around (on this very board, no less!) , I don't really think my life actually merits that kind of horror after all.

I'd have to say "Keep Holding On" By Avril Lavign. I don't know why, I just connect to it somehow. *shrugs*

Nobody's going to know this song.

It's the Fortress Town theme from Heroes of Might and Magic III, a turn-based strategy game. I just love the song, it feels kinda...right to me.

Mine is probably either Paralyzer by Finger Eleven or Ein Wiener Walzer by Adiemus. I listen to some odd music that most people have never heard of, so I dont usually listen to my music with friends.

Maybe "Oom Pa Pa" from Oliver the musical. I know it sounds really dumb but if you listen to it it's really cool.

OooooH! Or "I am a pirate king" from Pirates of Penzance. If you can't tell I have a thing for musicals.

Either Beer or Take On Me, both via Reel Big Fish. I don't care what you say, it's a truly beautiful thing when you can sing about sad things in a brilliant, up-beat tune, and that's what ska does.

Originally done by Tears for Fears, the cover in Donnie Darko is by Gary Jules.

A few songs have captured my mood pretty well. Back in high school, it was "The World I Know" by Collective Soul. Shortly thereafter, "Mother" (and the rest of The Wall, by extension) by Pink Floyd. During college, "Soulforged" from Blind Guardian. Most recently, "Rain Song" by Led Zepellin has fit me best.

But I think that the one song that's been constant throughout has been "Let it Be" by the Beatles. Simple song, simple message, but there it is.

Pshaw! First of , Pirates of Penzance is an opera, and HMS Pinafore is like, 278 times better!
Which brins me to my anthem(s): I am the Monarch of the Sea, When I was a Lad, and A British Tar. All of which are from HMS Pinafore.

Because the lyrics keep on repeating that "I'm a Loser"...but the song is so peppy and upbeat...says more about me then I ever could....

A particular song by Denis Leary, from the "No Cure for Cancer" album, the title of which is so dirty I can't say it here. :smalleek: In the movie of my life it'll be the song playing over the opening cred roll.

Kinda a hard question. The word Anthem, and the giant ego of mine, want me to say Learning to Live by Dream Theater, but that wouldn't be entirely honest. About the opposite, in fact.
Real anthems for myself would be:
Never Let Go (Camel): Beautiful song. Introspective at times, brash at times, always thoughtful.
Wooden Ships (CSN&Y): Where I wish I was.
Take a Pebble (ELP): This is truly one of the greatest pieces ever written. Though the lyrics are a tad emo, the song sums me up pretty well.
Knots (Gentle Giant): Cause I'm crazy.
Have a Cigar (Pink Floyd): My political opinions in a nutshell.
Catherine of Aragon (Rick Wakeman): Just because.
Soul Sacrifice (Santana): No other song is as deserving of the word 'Anthem'
The Royal Scam (Steely Dan): Cynical, keyboardtastic, bass heavy. Me in a three four words.
School (Supertramp): My early childhood.
Slippery People (Talking Heads): Me, from the bottom to the top.

Ok The three that I think fit me best are

In The Garage ~ Weezer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLJatrthJ80)
Rain When I die ~ Alice In Chains (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lc4CsQr8j7E)
Home ~ Foo Fighters (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyyCp1xiVNU)

They all fit me very well for different reasons.

If I ever posted anything dissimilar here, I change it to
Who Wants to Live Forever by Queen.
Because, well, two reasons. One, I'm secretely a romantic, though you'd never know it from my abrasive personality, eh. The second, it's a totally bitchin' piece of music.
