Ha ha, disguises are so easy when you are made of sticks.

Also, why does Belkar say she is no nymph? Apparently he doesn't own a copy of the monster manual. Look at the picture, nymphs are kinda ugly.

All right! Leprosy!

Haven't seen a joke about that in months.

Prince - 1999
I was dreamin' when I wrote this
Forgive me if it goes astray

But when I woke up this mornin'
Coulda sworn it was judgment day

The sky was all purple
There were people runnin' everywhere

Tryin' 2 run from the destruction
U know I didn't even care

'Cuz they say two thousand zero zero party over
Oops out of time
So tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999

I was dreamin' when I wrote this
So sue me if I go 2 fast

But life is just a party
And parties weren't meant 2 last

War is all around us
My mind says prepare 2 fight

So if I gotta die
I'm gonna listen 2 my body tonight

Yeah, they say two thousand zero zero party over
Oops out of time
So tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999
Yeah

Lemme tell ya somethin'
If U didn't come 2 party
Don't bother knockin' on my door
I got a lion in my pocket
And baby he's ready 2 roar

Yeah, everybody's got a bomb
We could all die any day
But before I'll let that happen
I'll dance my life away

They say two thousand zero zero party over
Oops out of time
We're runnin' outta time
So tonight we gonna, we gonna (Tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999)

Say it 1 more time
Two thousand zero zero party over
Oops out of time
No, no
So tonight we gonna, we gonna (Tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999)

Alright, it's 1999
You say it, 1999
1999
1999 don't stop, don't stop, say it 1 more time

Two thousand zero zero party over
Oops out of time
Yeah, Yeah
So tonight we gonna, we gonna (Tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999)

Yeah, 1999
Don'tcha wanna go
Don'tcha wanna go
We could all die any day
I don't wanna die
I'd rather dance

After weeks of plot building and character development these random "slice of life" comics are an enjoyable change of pace - and this is coming from someone who LOVED the stroy driven comics.

hey not too late on the draw this time. I seem to be catching up on this predicting when the giant posts :) Appearantly people there haven't heard of prosthetic limbs yet. you know they should look into it, considering there are many people with loose legs about. ok I'm not quite sure where that was going. Hopefully Belkar will find something else to do, maybe he'll find a tome of Understanding? naah too easy :)

All sorts of character dev for Belkar here...

Has we ever seen a happier Belkar than in this one dancing panel? (I mean, just happy, not "evil grin happy.")

Also, note the smooth, sophisticated pick-up line.

Only comic genius could combine a prince reference and a leprosy joke into a D&D comic strip and make it work better than anyone could belive.

What I would like to know is did the leprosy joke come strait from the D&D table or did the Giant come up with it out of the blue? Could you see someone actually looking at a DM and making a bluff check with leprosy as an excuse for a stilt breaking off.

Ha ha, disguises are so easy when you are made of sticks.

Also, why does Belkar say she is no nymph? Apparently he doesn't own a copy of the monster manual. Look at the picture, nymphs are kinda ugly.

I don't have a MM to look at ATM, but even if the picture is unattractive, nymphs are supposed to be beautiful. Besides, given the nymphs' seductive luring effects on people, it could work as an analogy even if nymphs themselves weren't attractive. For example, "When I gaze upon her beauty I am powerless to resist, as if a nymph's power had washed over me".

Didn't you notice? He already did. Badly freaked out his dancing partner, too.

Very nice. :D

Heh, Belkar tries to have a bit of non-evil fun and he can't even do that...

Hmm... No, he was pretty clearly motivated by the vice of lust, and as such I'm afraid that the kind of fun he was after was still evil. ;D

OMG :o I just noticed that belkar has red stubble on his head, he isnt bald!

or was I the only one who didn't notice?

I have noticed that before, but it did take me quite a number of strips to do so. So, it might have taken you longer, but you're not alone in having missed it at first.

Only Belkar. Only Belkar could use the excuse of leprosy so casually for something as trivial as a ruined disguise. ;D

Well, I wouldn't say it was trivial since he could be arrested if people realize it is a disguise. The "leprosy" comment may have actually saved him.

Who's Belkar Kidding?

SHE's HOT!

(And the ONLY person in Azure City who doesn't have Blue or Black hair!)

I think that line was just sour grapes on Belkar's part. He likely thought she was at least fairly attractive, or he wouldn't have been trying to "dance" with her in the first place.

Anyway, I particularly like the shot of Belkar when he's dancing in panel 7. That's an unusual kind of pose and situation for him. :)

New entry for snappiest loss of prosthesis cover line ever. Hmm, maybe that's not a category.
She's clearly not quite sober on that blue guinness there, or she would have noticed the short arms.

I'd say after the belt incident Belkar has every right to call him "Queenhilt", even if somewhat unfairly.

Then again, Belkar could just shut up, since he's now shown he cares about fashion as well as cooking. What is this, Halfling Eye for the Fighter Guy?

Prince - 1999
I was dreamin' ...
A better song would be Wierd Al's Party at the Leper Colony

{table]Finger food and an ice cold keg
It won't cost you an arm and a leg
Dance all night to a rotten band
Come on, people, let's give 'em a hand

Saturday night, it's the place to be
Everybody cut footloose with me
At the party at the leper colony
Oh, there's a party at the leper colony
Hey

Met a little lady so pretty and young
She was quite a talker 'till the cat got her tongue
She oozed up beside me, I turned on my charm
Well, pretty soon she was completely disarmed

I said, "Girl, now don't fall to pieces on me"
But she cried her eyes out - literally
At the party at the leper colony
Oh, there's a party at the leper colony
Hey, hey
Hey now, buddy, don't you give me no lip
Sorry I was using your head for dip
There's a guy in the hot tub, I don't know who
Wait a minute, it looks like Stu

Well, hold the phone now, what do I see?
Another pretty mama got her eye on me
At the party at the leper colony
Oh, there's a party at the leper colony

There's a party at the leper colony
(Party at the leper colony)
There's a party at the leper colony
(Party at the leper colony)

Oh, there's a party at the leper colony
Yeah, party at the leper colony
Well, there's a party at the leper colony

Man, this lack of Monster Manual thing is going to keep being an issue, isn't it? Anyway, not having an MM, I'm going to assume that Half-Celestials are formed from the union of Celestials and mortal beings, but I hasten to point out that not all sexual unioins are lustful. Lust is a vice, sexual activity in general is not (at least not inherently). So I'm sticking with my assessment of Belkar's motivations as still falling in the evil category.

Well, this is simply a case of our opinions on the subject of sexuality in relationship to the moral axis of alignment differing. I agree that Belkar's motivations in general are evil, and I suspect him of an evil motivation of some sort in this case due to his past history, but as far as I can tell, he's currently being merely non-good(and non-evil).

Yes.

but I hasten to point out that not all sexual unioins are lustful.

Um... :o

Barring unusual drugs or magic, lust is kind of required for sexual activity, yes. It's also healthy--certainly much healthier than the alternatives (the aforementioned drugs or magic, and, ah--I'm skating around explicit references to the mechanics of sex, because I know the moderators don't permit them). There's nothing wrong with lust; I'm told the Book of Exalted Deeds even spells out that there isn't in D&D either.

That said, it would certainly be jumping to an insupportable conclusion to think Belkar has any genuine feelings for this woman, and using another person's body as a masturbation tool is evil.

Actually, I think we're just having a terminology problem, because I would agree with your last sentence. I think you are using the term "lust" as equivalent to "sexual desire", whereas I was using "lust" to mean "bad sexual desire. I would agree with you that sexual desire is not inherently bad. So, I think we actually agree with each other. :)

Well, this is simply a case of our opinions on the subject of sexuality in relationship to the moral axis of alignment differing.
Maybe, although I'm not sure, since it may just be the terminology thing here too. I probably should have been more clear in my previous post.

Nowhere did I say that, VB. I said that Belkar was exhibiting a vice in this situation, not that all sexual desire involves fostering evil intent.

Oh, but you see, he's Evil - no doubt he has sex Evilly. ;)

I know you think you're being terribly clever here, but you aren't. Sex is like most things--it's not inherently good or evil, but the way in which we engage in it can make it one or the other. It would be weird to think that you couldn't have sex evilly, not the other way around.

Pity they dont last long enough for more jokes, eh?

I think her hair and dress implies she's not from azure city. Maybe she came there as a tourist specifically to party at the new years celebration. Can you imagine what it's going to be like when she comes home to her village and tells her friends:

"And then I got a litte drunk.."
**sob, cry**
"and met a guy with a small head and short arms, and I thought, you know what they say about guys with small heads and short arms..."
**sob**
"we danced a bit and he had such a wonderful murderous smile..."
**bwahaha, cry, sob**
"but then his leg broke of and he said he had leprosy! I hate Azure City, I'll never return there. I hope this evil army from the north sweeps this blue-leper-oh-so-moral-city away..."

I think the reason why I find this so amusing is because this is just the kind of thing that frequently randomly occurs in a decent RP campaign. I can just see it. Belkar's player says, "OK, so since I apparently won't get your silly plot device curse lifted, I'm walking around the city, bored and annoyed because I can't kill anybody or do anything else remotely fun. ...is there anything interesting going on?"

GM, nonplussed, "Well, there are people dancing and partying, but..."

So Belkar's player says, "That's grand. There are girls there, right? OK, so I'm going to pick me a dancing partner!" Other players giggle nervously at the thought of Belkar dancing. GM shrugs off the mental image and points at the dice. "Yeah, there's a girl there. You try to... convince her with your... charm." Other players audily wonder if Belkar has a single point in any significant social skill, while Belkar's player cheerfully rolls a 19.

GM stares at the die in a moment of disbelief until he says, "Yes, yes, you're dancing - to a tune that eerily sounds like Prince, perhaps - and she seems to be having a good time and all with a sadistic serial killer. And... *GM discreetly fudges a roll* ...damn, one of your stilts breaks. She, she looks at you in abject terror. What-"

Without a missing a beat, Belkar's player utters with total nonchalance, "Leprosy." GM and the rest of the player group erupt into laughter. "What?"

...I wouldn't put it past the little psycho to be sexually sadistic...

Nowt wrong with that as long as everyone involved knows what they're in for >:)

...Barring unusual drugs or magic, lust is kind of required for sexual activity, yes...

...I'm told the Book of Exalted Deeds even spells out that there isn't in D&D either.

In tha name of all that is holy delete that before any of my players see it! I really don't want to have to adjudicate the research of that spell!

Nah, I'm kidding. :P I'll adjudicate anything, I'm sure they'll go wibble before I do

Also it amuses me to see what is considered an 'exhaulted deed' these days ;)

b) Have their Unearthly Grace that gives bonuses to saves and thus are much better able to make their fortitude save vs Leprosy ;D

not so much a Diablo II reference as it is both are making the same Prince reference. "Party like it's 1999" is what it really is, and see as Diablo II and Oots are medeval(ish) 999 makes more sense and is funny.

diabolic reference? Sure. "Party like it's 999" sung backwards and standing on your head would give you...

So many people commenting on the leprosy excuse, when it is probably the best excuse any 3.5 D&D character could have come up with. After all, since there is no rule for damage localization beyond cutting the heads off multi-headed monsters, characters cannot lose their limbs. Hence no need for prosthetics. QED :)

I would have to beg to differ. I played in a game where the paladin decided to help the theif out with a trapped drawer. The next thing we knew we were traveling with a palidin with the new nickname of "Lefty" and trying to find a cleric to patch his arm back on. There are situations where prostetic limbs or the like can be handy. Just cause you cant choose to try and delimb and Orc in battle, dosent mean that limbs cant be lost.

Weell - in THIS case it was quite some hard one of a diplomacy check... - he should have had to roll a nat 20...
Natural twenties are not automatic successes on Checks, nor are natural ones automatic failures unless specifically mentioned in the rules for the check.

The 1 fails and 20 succeeds rules are attack and save rolls only.

Thus it is perfectly possible that Belkar DID roll a 20, and still failed.

Did you know that leprosy does not cause body parts to fall off? Rather it causes disfigurement and loss of nerves, so a victim may not notice injury. It is barely contagious though only curable by modern antibiotics.

A leg snapping off would be excrutiating and likely to send the victim into shock. Only a mentally ill person could dismiss the loss of a limb so casually. Any rational person would conclude the leg is not real and disease could not have any effect on it.

It is superstition, not reason, that made the young woman run away from Belkar. Superstition was rampant in medieval times, of course.

Did you notice that Belkar's stilt walking is anatomically incorrect in the first and fourth panel? The forward leg shows an apparant pelvis a third the up the body. As Belkar is in the top half of the cloak, his pelvis is about two-thirds of the way up, as shown in the third panel. Belkar could be standing on reverse knee joints but that would be really bizarre and an impossible way to walk.

This is, of course, deliberate use of artistic license. Really bizarre artistic license.

No one has been hurt or killed or upset by Belkar in anyway, and he's not getting something or taking advantage of someone to cause him to be happy...Wow!

Nawh, but for Diablo references, "Sti ekil ytrap!" sounds suspiciously like something the Fallen... or the Carvers, or the... whatever else they were called... would scream out.

For some reason, THE COMIC WILL BE LATE TODAY in all caps is amusing to me for two reasons. One, why does this time merit a forum message? ;)

Two, it reminds me of a webcomic by Ryan Estrada about the LJ mascot "Frank the Goat", where after some strips he says "SEE THE JOKE IS THAT HE DOESN'T WANT TO TALK TO HER" or something, explaining the punchline in all caps. He also says that all comics should do that - "SEE THE JOKE IS THAT GARFIELD DOES NOT LIKE MONDAYS" "SEE THE JOKE IS THAT DAGWOOD LIKES LARGE SANDWICHES" etc.
